Powermac G5 single 1.8ghz, reset NVRAM and now mac runs from wrong drive

I'd really appreciate some help with this. Recently, I had a second hard drive added (at a Tekserve repair shop) to my PowerMac G5 1.8gHz tower in the second slot, since the first drive seemed like it was starting to fail. They had set up the computer so that it ran off of the new hard drive, and the old one was accessed only from the new one. Since then, my computer had been working extremely well, until a few days ago, when it refused to boot up (no chime, no keyboard response, black or gray screen with apple logo, fans running on high). Upon reading some of the posts on this web site, it was suggest I reset my NVRAM, which is exactly what I proceeded to do in Open Firmware. It worked like a charm, thankfully, and my computer booted up. The only problem: it's running off of the old, slow hard drive again! Why? I don't know - I can only assume that the NVRAM reset also reset the route to the old hard drive. Does anyone have any step-by-step suggestions on getting my computer to run from the new hard drive again? And other suggestions to keep my computer from refusing to start up again? Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you thank you thank you!

Welcome to Apple discussions forum.
When you reset NVRAM in Open Firmware all parameters are reset to factory settings: to make short screen resolution and boot drive. So this is normal. Since you have a valid system on it. If you want the machine to boot from your newly installed drive even after a reset, invert the drives in the hard drive bay slots. Put the new drive in A slot and the old one in B slot.
An alternative is to press on the option(alt) key immediately after boot chime and to select the drive you want to boot from in the system picker.

As the title says, I can't reinstall Mountain Lion. When I turn on the iMac, it send me straight to OX X Utilities. When I click on Reinstall Mountain Lion, it asks for my ID, but then states I did not purchase Mountain Lion. How do I fix this issue? I've tried asking Apple Support, but to no avail. I don't think the guy I spoke with understood what was going on.
I cannot get around OS X Utilities. There are only four options for me.
Reinstall Mountain Lion
Back Up (tried, nothing comes up)
Get Help Online (which is what I'm doing here)
Erase or Restore Utilities (I've checked this, it says my disks are not malfunctioning)
My friend suggested signing into his ID to reinstall but when we did, it also said this ID has not purchased Mountain Lion. We logged into Apple Support went to registed devices and there was nothing there. I think he may have used another ID which is he searching for the info for. If we get the right ID, then maybe it will let us sign in on his name and reinstall Mountain Lion. But if he can't, or Apple won't take his ID, then I'm at a loss for options.
So now I'm here, hoping someone else who bought a used iMac from a friend who factory reset it and needs info on how to reinstall Mountain Lion can help me. I don't know what else to do. If I can't get this thing sorted out, I'll have to drive to the apple store. The closest one is 60 miles away, so I'm not looking forward to that. Is that my only option now? What can I do?

What are my options?If the system didn't ship with Mountain Lion originally and you didn't purchase Mountain Lion yourself, then you will need to purchase. A purchase by the system's original owner cannot be transferred to you.
Unless you have another system on which you have purchased Mountain Lion, you will need to first install Mac OS X 10.6.8 on the iMac, for which you'll need either the original installation disks, if the iMac came with 10.6, or a retail copy of 10.6. Install 10.6 and upgrade to at least 10.6.6, and then you can buy Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store, presuming of course that the imac can support Mountain Lion. See:

I was given an iPhone 3G, reset it, and now have picture which I believe indicates I should connect to my computer and iTunes. Have done so, clicked download which was done, but nothing changes on the phone. I know I can only upgrade to ios 4.2 but how do I do this?

From what you describe it sounds like the phone is in recovery mode. Try connecting the phone to the wall charger that it came with, and perform a reset then connect it to iTunes again and try:
Reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

As your notebook is a business class machine, security is more stringent - the password is stored in non-volatile memory and there are no 'backdoor' passwords. Your best option would be to contact HP regarding this.

I was wondering If I could use my iPhone as an iPod? I factory reset it and now it wants me to activate it.
Connect iPhone to iTunes on computer, it only takes a few seconds to activate the iPhone. Then to save battery you can put the iPhone into Airplane Mode and use as an iPod. If you decide to use iMessage and such you will most likely have to turn Airplane Mode OFF, while using iMessage.

I got a blacklisted iphone 5 from att and I reset it and now when I try to set it up it needs a sim card so I went to the att store and they put a sim in and on the iPhone it says replacement needed couldn't complete activation.i just want use it as a ipod
To use it as an iPod it must be activated...to do that it has to accept a sim. A blacklisted iPhone cannot do that. Take it back to AT and T where you got it and get your money back.

I recently did the 5.3 update to my Apple TV and now it is running sluggish and things keep freezing and then pictures are loading on top of each other. Then I did a hard reset today and now the WWDC app is gone. Anyone else having these issues?
I have been having problems with my atv 3 not transmitting/receiving 5.1 surround. Whether I stream from my computer or watch movies, I am getting no 5.1 audio. The atv won't even show the option for surround. I tried to restore and reset the device but it didn't help.
I haven't had any problems with missing apps or freezing or anything similar to what you are experiencing. This update has many bugs. Other threads have reported even more problems. Hopefully I can go back to the previous update. -
I recently updated to 10.8.2 and now my notes from my iphone no longer appear in my mail nor do my calender appointments. Is there any way to change it so they will appear?
If it has the same (bad) behavior on two different systems then there is a very good chance that the drive is toast.
BTW you'll get better response to your questions if the question actually reflects the problem you are having. In this case it would have been better to say you couldn't access the drive rather then that it doesn't show on the desktop.

Itunes wont run and now i lost my cd drive
I installed itunes to my windows xp computer and after the installation I tried to run the program. It would not run and now I lost my cd drive. I deleted itunes and then in order to get my drive back I would have to use the windows restore program. But, every time I try to reinstall itunes it does the same thing... program wont work and lose my cd drive. Please help me someone...
Success! I've finally got itunes up and running on my computer. What I did was go to my control panel and clicked on 'other control panel options.' Here I found the java plug-in icon which I updated, it's pretty straightforward to do that, if you click on it, you'll find the option to do that. I then clicked on the Windows start menu and on programs which said 'apple software update'. I clicked on this and it said searching for software. It found the new version of Quick Time and a security update for it. I installed both of them and double clicked on itunes and instead of expecting it to show the usual error message it started launching! I'm well pleased. My cd drive is still missing but I should be able to find a way to restore it. Hope this info helps someone who's having similar problems!
