PowerMac G5 spits out blank DVD R?

I own a Dual 2.5GHz Power Mac G5 with a problem of rejecting all blank DVD+R discs but it accepts a retail DVD and a Mac OSX 10.4 DVD-DL. It sometimes rejects even a DL disc once in a while.

Old drive + old firmware + new or cheap media = incompatibility
What is your drive?
What media are you trying to use?
Also, OS X doesn't equally support DL media.
With DL media, OS X 10.4x supports burning to DVD+R DL, but not DVD-R DL.
OS X 10.5x Leopard supports burning to DVD-R DL, but doesn't support DVD+R DL.

  • Pioneer CD/DVD 103 Superdrive - spits out blank DVD

I am using Toast 7 to burn CD's and DVD's. I have no trouble burning CD's. DVD's are another story. I was only able to burn the DVD that came with the machine. The Sony DVD+R disks that I purchased will not burn - the tray opens up after 20 seconds or so.
Any suggestions? Am I purchasing the wrong type of recordable DVD?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That drive (DVR-103) was only designed to burn 2X DVD media (-R format only).
You may find 4X media that the drive will still accept (it will only burn @ 1X, if at all).
Some new 16X media is rated 1-16X; check the packaging, if it does not specifically state this, then it most likely won't work. Sony (Made In Japan, not Made In Taiwan which is poor quality) 16X media is rated as such, so it may work.
You may find that it is cheaper to replace the drive for a DVR-111D or ND-3550A (under $40 online, try newegg.com as one resource), so that you can make use of most quality brands of currently available -/+R media (nd burn much faster).
If you choose to do this, you need to look at the "OEM PC" drives listed above, they ship as a bare drive, with no PC software/retail packaging; this is all you need.
There are a couple of additional things to do when installing any 3rd party drive in a Mac . You can search discussions for either model # for much more info...

  • My machine is spitting out blank dvd's?

Any idea why this would happen?

So more information might be helpful to further identify the issue(s).
1.) Are you able to read any optical media that's inserted?
2.) When did this start happening?
3.) Have you tried different media?
4.) What sort of media/manufacturer is it?
I once bought a 100 disc (CD-R) spindle of Memorex and 44 of the discs were not readable by my machine. Ironically of those 44, 29 were readable by my other Mac and 11 were only readable by my PC. The remainder were not readable on anything I tried.

  • Hi! I have been experiencing trouble my mac computer, it spits out CD/DVD's and there is no camera connection

Hi! I have been experiencing trouble my mac computer, it spits out CD/DVD's and there is no camera connection

My mid-2007 iMac's internal optical drive went on the fritz a few weeks ago. Symptoms were a little different (it recognized every disk, CD or DVD, as blank whether they were blank or not). Reason and solution are the same: It's a hardware problem and your choices are to get the internal replaced or repaired, or get an external FireWire or USB drive.
If you're still covered by AppleCare, your internal drive will be repaired/replaced for you at no cost. Just bring it in to your nearest Apple Store after calling for a repair appointment.
If you're not still covered by AppleCare, an internal replacement is more expensive than it's worth. I got a very inexpensive USB CD/DVD reader - less than $20, since I don't need the ability to burn very often and when I do there are plenty of other Macs around here to do the burning. If you feel confident in your ability to muck about with the cramped insides of your Mini, a replacement internal can be had for under $100.

  • My disk drive keeps spitting out my dvd that I'm trying to brun a slideshow on.

My disk drive keeps spitting out my dvd that I'm trying to brun a slideshow on. Why is it doing this and how can I fix ASAP?

You usually go all the way into the Burn process until it says "Insert a blank DVD now", THEN put in the DVD.
If you put the DVD in early, Mac OS X looks at it, decides it is blank and therefore useless, and spits it out.

  • HP Laserjet 2600xi new drivers prints garbage spits out blanks

A friend called me about this problem and all I knew to do was to get the latest drivers and install them after removing all traces of old HP software. They're using an eMac with OS 10.4.11. The problem may have a simple solution. When they send a file to print, at first there is a page of 'garbage' printed followed by the printer just 'spitting out' blank sheets until they turn it off.
Any ideas to try? It could be a corrupt spool folder I suppose but don't know where to look for the file.
    Thanks

Thanks, Greg. You are right that the 2600xi is Photosmart rather than Laserjet. I was just passing on the info given me by the owner who is frankly clueless. He asked my advice because I'm somewhat more experienced. I don't know how the rpinter was added to the Print & Fax pref pane.
As far as using the HP drivers I've gotten them to install new ones and had them look to see if the printer was recognized in the Printer Setup Utility.app. It was and that's the last time I talked to them. I may have to go and make a house call. Thanks for your information and advice. I'll get back with any update.

  • HP PSC 2175 spits out blank paper while I print.

I have Dell GX520 Desktop PC with Windows XP service pack 3 and HP PSC 2175 all-in-one printer. Since few days I m having trouble printing with my printer. When I try to print it simply picks up the paper scans it and spits out  blank paper instead of printing it. There is no any error message or flashing light or any thing in the printer.
But still I can make copy or print the test page from it. The only thing is I can't print any document from WordPad or NotePad or through Adobe Reader. I don't have Office on my PC.
I have tried every thing that I can do. Uninstall the driver and reinstalled  it  downloading from HP website, updated the drivers manually, replaced new cartridges and what not. But I still have the problem. It would be so helpful if you have any solution to this problem.

    I'm having the same problem....
The computer is a hp pavilion.
When trying to print, It loads the paper, It checks the paper position, then it just ejects the paper.
I opened the print job que and watched it.
When the print job ques up, it shows the job...then deletes the job before printing it.
It has been working fine up until a few days ago.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • My MacBook Pro is spitting out my DVDs. I tried many discs and they all got spat out. Its an early 2008. The drive is a HL-DT-ST dvdrw GSA-s10n. Do I need a new drive?

Hi.  Need some help here.  My MacBook Pro is spitting out my DVDs.  I insert them and they knock around awhile making whirring noises, then out they come.  Refuses to play them.  I've tried many.  I have an early 2008 model and the drive is a HL-DT-ST dvdrw GSA-s10n.  Do I need to get a new drive?  Thanks for any help or comments.

My old Early 2008 MBP used to do that every now and then in the last years of its life. Got a dry-type optical drive cleaner, the kind that is a CD with 4 rows of very fine and soft bristles glued on the "business side". Memorex was the brand I got, good for 20-30 uses.  Ran it thru every time the drive acted up, never failed to restore functionality.
Of course, the Mac would later go on and blow its logic board. And that was that.

  • Printer only spits out blank sheets

I have a photosmart 7550 and all I get when trying to print photos or even word documents is a blank page. I just installed three new print cartridges (56, 57, & 58). The calibration and diagnostic pages came out fine. I replaced the USB cable and that allowed Word to spit out a blank page.
Haven't used this printer in a long while and now I don't know how to get it to work.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Kaitlyn,
I have cleaned the printheads at least 5 times, tried printing reports, aligning printheads and even cleaning printhead manually and the ink cartridge also. No luck. I had no trouble with this printer until I brought everything upstairs and set up here and then that one part didn't work. The machine and printer had not been used in a week but all worked well before then. What will really be a drag is if I replace the printhead and it still will not work. This thing and I may have to have a long talk then! The monster will print in color but no black in it. Can the ink well jets be stopped up? How would anybody ever clean one of those out?
Thanks for the input and responding so quickly.

@Trinity7243: have you tried cleaning the cartridges? and the printheads?
Try to go to the printer's setup MENU --> TOOLS--> CLEAN PRINTHEAD
IF its the same still, then the printheads of your printer would need to be replaced.
    update me what ever happens

  • Spits out blank or black only prints.

    Hello all, I have a HP 5740
    WIndows 7
Since changing empty color and black cartridges I went with the single Photo cartridge.
I've set the options to ICM and chose the tri color cartridge option.
Now the printer will only print in black or it just spits out a blank sheet.
I understand HP doesn't officially support Windows 7 yet but I was hoping for a little insight.
I've tried what I would call EVERYTHING with no success at a color print out.

What happens if you insert a black cartridge instead of the photo cartridge and then try to print?

  • My computer kicks out blank DVD-R's

My computer is not reading blank DVD-R - kicks it out. However, it will read a blank CD and DVD's that have content on them. Is this something I can fix or do I need to bring it into Apple?

Hard to say. It could be the brand of DVD media you are using. Verbatim is first choice around here.
Or it could be a matter of cleaning the Superdrive, using a standard CD/DVD lens cleaner disk that uses tiny brushes.
Or it may indeed be a failing Superdrive (not unknown), in which you can either get it replaced or get an external DVD burner.

  • IMac Spitting out CD/DVD's
