Powermac G5 won't seem to run certain apps?

Hello!
I was just given a G5 Powermac (running Mac OS X 10.4.11). It has a fair amount of editing and video production software on it, which all seems to run fine. I have noticed that certain programs like won't launch. For example, I installed the required software for a Netgear WPN111 dongle, but when I clicked on the "NETGEARWLANClientUtility" the apps on the dock slide aside for a moment (to make room for the new icon) and promptly slide back to their place the app would not launch nor did the computer give me an error message. I found an existing copy of utorrent and bitorrent on the computer and clicked on them, only to find the same thing happened with them. I am not sure how to fix this, would upgrading to OS X Leopard help at all?

Sounds like a major hardware problem.
If no change after restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, there is a hardware problem.

My iPhone 5 won't let me download certain apps. They show up on itunes but not on my phone, if I download the app from my computer it loads on my phone then immediately disappears. The 'FREE' button is white in the app store for certain apps. PLEASE HELP!

I'm so frustrated and in desperate need of help, I don't know what else to do! Certain apps such as Tumblr (I've previously had the Tumblr app on my phone) and Vine will NOT dowload on my phone. I've tried deleting all apps from both my iPhone and iTunes, I've tried restoring my phone then backing it up, I've tried downloading the app from iTunes while my phone is plugged into my computer, etc. When I search the apps in the app store they show up but the 'FREE' button is white and unclickable, it's very frustrating. Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

R7 Display seems "blurry" on certain apps

Hope you guys can help me - seeing that your online consultant was not able to.
I bought the Acer Aspire R7 machine last week (SNID - 34912764934) and noticed that there is a display problem. (see attached pic)
There is a huge difference between my skype, a notepad doc, Word doc and Facebook game. The quality of the Facebook game and Skype is pathetic compare to the notepad and Word docs. You can also see on the second print screen that the Facebook email (which is Acer Africa and the Chat screen) display's poorly compare to the rest of the screen layout. It is if some of the display's looks kinda blurry.
I never used to have this problems on any of my laptops before, but I do experience them on the Aspire R7 and it is messing with my eyes.
Also the entire display is very small, except if I change it - it is way smaller than any computer I have ever worked on. The Google Chrome browser must then be reduced to 90% after I have increased the display.
All of this is highly annoying, because I have never experience such display problems with any computer and trust me I am an IT Engineer and I work on a lot of computers.
Can someone please provide me with a workable explanation on how to get this fixed, because it mess up my eyes badly.
I guess if there is not fix then I have to return the laptop.

Hello, I had what sounds like the same problem when I did a complete reinstall on my R7 last month. Windows Desktop icons were larger, and some 3rd party programs like Steam had larger boxes with fuzzier text than before. Bring up the Windows desktop (I like to press Windows Key - D) and right-click, and select Screen Resolution. Make sure that you are running in the native resolution, 1920x1080. Then, at the top of the Screen Resolution box, click where it says "Display" (between "Appearance and Personalisation" and "Screen Resolution"). Select the "Smaller (100%)" radio button, and Apply. Everything should now be uniformly displayed at the correct scaling for 1920x1080. When you say "the entire display is very small", this could be because it is a 1080P screen, while your previous laptops were 720P or lower. As you are an IT Engineer and therefore understand pixel density on screens, I need say no more.

My computer won't run certain applications anymore

Recently my computer stopped running certain applications (Specifically Microsoft Word, and Rosetta Stone language programs). I thought that it might be related to the quicktime 7.2 update because it started acting up around the time that I downloaded it. I have tried everything, and I even tried to download the os x 10.4.10 intel combo patch, but my computer refuses to recognize it. Can somebody please help me?

Installed Lion on late 2010 Air-Seems to Run Faster

Can anyone confirm of rejet this notion. My MacBook Air, late 2010 model, 1.86GHZ seems to run faster with Lion installed compared to Snow Leopard. Apple has streamlined OSX previoulsy and was wondering if they have done it again. Certainly not having to support Rosetta and related software should have reduced OS clutter.

Certain Apps not Launching - running slow

Certain apps like Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Indesign are hanging when they launch and freezing the computer. It also seems to be running really slow in general. I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of.
Repaired permissions, Verified disk, run TechTools Pro, Signed in as a Guest Account, Uninstalled above programs and reinstalled. Reinstalled System folder from Leopard disk (keeping network settings etc).
(It's in the shop now getting another tech program run on it) When I get it back I'll try upgrading to 10.5.6 from my current 10.5.5 but don't have high hope for that. (after looking through forum remember I haven't tried zapping PRAM will do that too) I have a program called SpamSieve that also keeps crashing when I start up? Removed from start up items still seeing problems.
Any thoughts? Oh I also ran a program called AppleJack to purge caches, prefs etc, (Nice little program never used it before) Did this before installing new System folder.
I'm guessing next is to do a full reinstall of the Software ie not keep all my settings.. boo hoo. I have about a 100 apps on this machine, really dreading getting them all working again.

As far as I remember CS3 was not fully compatible with 10.5.5 that's why Adobe came up with CS4 which is compatible with 10.5.5 +
In 10.5.5, CS3 will cause the machine to freeze, crash, or the apps will not load correctly...
sadly that would mean that you need to upgrade your Adobe software...
I also had these problems and I did not want to shell out the upgrade money, so I got The GIMP ( almost as good as Photoshop ) If you only use Illustrator there are free options such as "Inkscape" and other art programs such as "ArtRage" (same as Corel Painter but without the price tag).

Powermac 8500 won't start.

Ok, here goes. OS 9.1 installed. Went to use Techtool today to optimize the disk. As always, with my machine, I had to go to the start up disk and choose CD. It will not start from the CD simply by pressing the "C" during start up. Started fine and the program ran fine. Once done however, it said that it was highly recommended that I restart the computer before proceeding as the program had to quit running certain things to optimize the disk. I restarted and now the computer will not start. It doesn't find the System software on the hard drive because the last thing I told it was to start from the CD. Now, however, it doesn't see the CD either. So it just sits there looking for the system software. I need to get the computer started from the CD in order to tell it to start from the System software on the hard drive. How can I do this? I've restarted many times, holding the "C" key but it doesn't see the CD drive. I'm stuck.

Thanks for the info. I tried it all. I replaced the battery as well as used the command that you gave me. Nothing worked. I checked the CD for the ID and the plugs where set in slot 0 and 1. Slot 2 was open and while there was a line running to another pin set there was not a number 3 printed on it. I tried changing it around but nothing helped there either. It cannot find software anywhere so it just sits there. The CD never gets loaded as the disk can be ejected at any time. Seems strange that this all ocurred after Techtool checked everything and it was OK. Once the optimization was finished and I was instructed to restart, it all failed. Any other ideas?

Possible answer to LR 2.6 & 2.7 Seeming to run slower than earlier versions

I just downloaded and unpgraded from LR 2.6 to 2.7 on a Windows Vista 64-bit machine. Version 2.6 seemed to run a lot slower than 2.5. When I read the LR2.7 readme file on the download page I noticed one of the known issues is that at least ver. 2.7 runs slower when there are lots of files in the recycle bin. after I upgraded I emptied the recycle bin (Of almost 3000 files), and yes indeed performance did improve - dramatically. This also improved performance on LR 3 Beta 2.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried each idea in the order suggested. Unfortunately I have not yet solved the problem. In some circumstances, with certain paper profiles and no other color management in place, I get faulty prints but they have large areas of solid color in areas where there is a large amounts of color saturation in the original image. The faulty image below is printed to plain letter-sized paper ar Normal Quality. One clarification I wish to make is that my HP printer driver was not specifically a 64-bit driver, but rather 32-bit/64-bit driver compatable for Win 7.
I may try completely uninstalling LR before reinstalling, instead of a "repair-install" but I am still open to other suggestions.

Powermac g5 dual 2.0 fans run too slow, overheats the freezes.

My G5 processor fans seem to always run at the same speed, 300-345 rpm. I know this deviates from the common fan over- revving issue with powermacs but recently it now will freeze up and I get the grayed out curtain telling me to power off with the power button. I've monitored the temps and noticed that when running multiple apps or just one like Aperture the temps begin to increase and when they reach 145-148ºF it freezes up. I've repaired permissions, reset PMU but nothing. Is there any way to adjust or rest fan control in console or is there an aftermarket auxiliary fan I can use to provide better cooling? Oh, yes I've vacuumed and blew out any dust on the processors.

Thanks for your reply. I decided to try a fix to cool the processor temps and it seems to have worked albeit rather unconventional and honestly after dealing for over a year with an out of control dual 2.7 (my previous computer) until it just self destructed, I really had nothing to lose. I went to Walmart, bought a $15.00 3 speed fan which interestingly is same color as the powermac and is a cylinder type with two exhaust outlets that cover the entire motherboard height. Removed the clear plastic air deflector but covered a piece of paper with aluminum foil and inserted it into the tab slot to fool the computer. Opened CS3, Aperture & Corel paint. Temps quickly went to 137+. Turned on the fan to high and saw temps drop to 120º. Opened several more apps to try to cook the processor but highest temp was 125, Kept running all apps for hours and no shut down. When just running Aperture I turn fan to low. I have not been able to run Aperture for more than a few minutes fro months so this to me is great. I also noticed that when I just removed the air deflector temps went down about 4º. As I said I had nothing to lose and I think it's an accepted fact that a majority of powermacs had/have serious cooling issues. I'm happy.

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

My Macbook Pro has a black screen when running in Bootcamp Windows 7. Since I updated the mac side my windows side now starts up with completely black screen - no prompt, nothing, Cap keys still light up as does mouse and DVD drive seems to run.

I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick. I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally. I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again. I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time. Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black. I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]

Yes, it will do a full backup.

Only if you want to be able to go back in time to those previous Time Machine backups. When you plug in the new larger external drive, you will only be able to go back as far as the first day you plugged it in and ran the first Time Machine backup on it.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Time Machine Backup seems to run constantly

My Time Machine backup seems to run constantly. When it happens, performance is also affected. Although a system restart will seems to get everything back to normal, the problem comes back. Any thoughts on what I am doing to cause the problem?

I'm a bit new to Macs really and thought that once backed up, on my NAS system I would be able to view the photos etc. but I presume this isn't the case and I should not back up the photos as part of the Time Machine backup and back these up seperately in order to view them remotely etc?
