Powermac G5 wont boot/no boot sound/no video just flashing led

Ok, I think I have a serious problem, the problem came up when I removed RAM, and befor that computer worked just fine (i have dual powermac G5 2GHz).
And after that to resolve that issue I tried everything:
- reset PRAM;
- reset SMU;
- unpluging everything and holding down power button while connection power cord;
- removing video card and powering up;
- moving RAM around and powering;
And nothing helped. Every time I power up the computer there is no chimne, no video, just falshing led!
So if anyone knows of any else options PLEAS HELP, I came to dead end.
Thanks

I've tried it with cabels unhooked and with new battery, and nothing, same problem no boot sound just flashing light.
After that I also measured the power connector (because earlier I bought a book from PeachPit - Desktop and Portable System, which all I can say is not worth the money, but there is little chapter talking about a power supply verification) and the voltage is correct (+5V), so the power supply is OK.
All I can say is that this was my first powermac and i bought it from second hand so there is no warranty, and in Slovenia there aren't any service technician, the nearest is in Austria. I'm very, very, ...... disappointed about the quality of powermac's (although I bought it from second hand it cost me a lot of money, which I don't have).
I will not buy a new logic board to check if it's solution for the problem, and I'm very enthusiastic about computers, i'll probably leave and eventually sell it for pennies (and lose 1000EUR's, bull **).
The end point is that anyone who is buying a powermac g5 with no warranty, earlier model don't do it!! I don't know about MacPro's.

  • Installed Latest update - now it wont turn on - just flashing LED

    I need help please!
    I had my phone since Feb this year.  It's been great overall.  I've had a few problems with it overheating and draining the battery, but not consistently.
    Anyhow, on Wednesday evening, I did a little looking around and found there was an OS update, so I ran it.
    Ever since, my phone will not switch back on.
    The LED is flashing, but not like before, this time the flashing has a pattern to it:  One long flash then five fast flashes.
    I don't know what this means....  Obvs I can't get any details off my phone because it wont switch on, so please don't ask me what the update was...
    I need help - there's obviously power there, because the light is flashing.
    I've tried removing the battery, sim card and micro SD and none of this has helped.

    This is a an error message, (you probably already realised that), there seems to be no published list of what these mean but I had a similer problem on one of the early Dev phones.  Then the solution was to drain the battery then do a series of longer and longer charges.
    However my suggestion now is to autoload an OS and see if it get's you past the problem.
    If you can't even get to the boot rom stage to install the OS, then come back and I'll dig out what the solution was mentioned above.
    Autoloader info can be found here...

  • Powermac G5 wont boot. Please help!!!

    my PowerMac G5 wont boot, power suply or graphics card? When i press the power button is the chime and then after a while (fem minutes) the fans start revving up, all with a black screen........

    See if it will come up into Open Firmware and let you do an NVRAM reset.
    Hold the cmd-option-O-F key combination when powering.  If the screen actually comes up, you should see a light background with black letters.  To do the resed, enter the following three commands.
    reset-nvram <enter>
    set-defaults <enter>
    reset-all <enter>
    I don't have a lot of hope, in one sense, but it you get the OF terminal screen, then that says at least that at its basic guts, the machine is sort of working, and we can go from there.  And, if it does make it into OF, the resets might actually clear things up.

    Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
    Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via control centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off'). The function that isn't on the side switch is set via control centre instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Re-installed fresh Snow Leopard, Boot camp boots,but wont show on startup..

    Ok, I had Boot Camp on my iMac with Snow Leopard fine. I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard fresh.
    Chose the Mac HDD partition, it re-installed fine. I then thought I'd have to do the Boot Camp again, but I held don "alt" key and Boot Camp boots fine and works.
    So I normally have the Boot Camp to boot 1st, as wife and kids use Windows. However I go into Boot Camp on Mac OS, and it doesn't show the boot camp startup disk. Where's it gone?
    As I say everything is fine, apart from it now looks like its lost track of the Boot Camp partition.
    Is there anyway I can get it back? I ran Boot Camp wizard on Mac, but it either wants to create a new Boot Camp partition, or run windows installer, both which I dont want.
    Any help please
    chers

    Set the default startup disk in Windows.
    There is no Boot Camp on Mac OS ("go into Boot Camp"?)
    Try:
    System Preferences / Startup Disk
    On Windows, the Boot Camp Control Panel to used set the default OS
    Wizard: by this assume Boot Camp Assistant, which is only a partitioning tool.
    Boot Camp doesn't "boot," Windows boots.
    Boot Camp - Assistant to create a partition
    Boot Camp - Set of drivers and services
    Boot Camp - Control panel in Windows to set default boot OS (Mac OS X volumes or Windows, with some other features for laptops I believe)
    Personally, too many things use the same name and lead to misunderstandings.

  • My powermac G5 wont start.

    My powermac G5 wont start. Engine starts and begins to 'rev' like ****, but system doesnt boot. Startup light pulses instead of remaining steady. Anyone know how to fix this? Ive never had a problem with this computer, its never crashed or frozen. I absolutely need to save my data, but cannot afford a new computer nor serious repairs...!

    Can you count the beeps or flashes?
    1 beep = no RAM installed
    2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
    3 beeps = no good banks
    4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
    5 beeps = processor is not usable
    In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
    Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
    If you're sure the RAM is good, try the Hair Dryer trick...

  • "Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR"

    Hi Apple Ppl of the Wrld: I need help I been working on installing windows 8 on my Mac.
    Spec of equipment:
    Mac Book Pro Mid 2012
    Bootcamp Version: Version 5.0.4 (473)
    Bootable USB Flash Drive: Type Scan disk 4 GB windows 8 pro iso image but without the driver and the 2nd Scan disk USB flash drive with 32 GB with the Bootcamp Drivers downloaded and saved to this drive.
    Please Note: I also have the original back up installation disc for Microsoft 8 Prof 64 from Microsoft where I purchased it from.
    1st Bootcamp is not recognizing the Original Microsoft 8 Pro backup disk from microsoft itself.
    Solution: I created the New Image from the Original Microsoft installed disc in my desk top and changed the extension to .ISO then burned the ISO image into the newly purchased DVD+R. Then I ran Bootcamp Once again and it get the following error message "The installer disc could not be found -- Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized. Solution
    2: Created a bootable usb drive with bootcamp assistant successfully with bootcamp. Yes I close, ejected or un-mounted any image that was open or had been previously used then i restarted the Mac. Next, I start the bootcamp assistant tool once again then i get the same insert your windows installer disc message.
    3: Then I try to resolve the installer disc not found issue: this are the steps i took: a). Lauch disc utilities
        1. Selected the top most drive 750 GB Macintosh HDD
        2. On the right you’ll see 5 tab buttons: First Aid | Erase | Partition | RAID | Restore.
        3. Choose Partition. Then I clicked + to add another partition size of the partition was 222 GB
        4. Change the Name of the Partition to BOOTCAMP
        5. Change the Format to MS-DOS (FAT)
        6. Click Apply to save the changes and then reboot your Mac and we’ll begin Windows installation.
        7. During reboot, press and hold the alt/Option key and you’ll be presented with drives to boot from.
        8. Use the arrow keys and return button to select the Windows yellow USB key drive containing your Windows 8 installation files.
        9. This will begin the Windows install. --> then i get the following message: "Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR".
    4: Take the Mac to best buy and let them resolve the issue and charge me like a million dollars for it :'( since i have no other idea who to get this bootcamp working at all. This has been a terribly lengthy issue and it is not as simple as it is claimed to be since i started with the Original Windows Disc Purchased from Microsoft and I have the Optical disc drive which it should be simpler from what I understand.
    Please can you help It would be of great help.

    from what i understand you are trying to install win 8 pro from a "backup disk" the one that you purchased from microsoft.
    this will not work, it is not an installer disk.
    you need to start the process again. erase the partition you made on your hdd. in disc utility click the minus button after selecting the bootcamp partition, then manually drag the divider down fully then apply.
    next, erase your usb then format it.
    download win 8 iso from here;
    http://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/download-windows-8-pro/
    it is perfectly legal to use your purchased product key in this install.
    in bootcamp select the iso image you just downloaded, select your preferred partition size, check all 3 options.
    you have the support software on another usb but you wont need it so it can be discarded. the install will work far better with the iso and support on the same drive.

  • Boot Camp For Lion -- USB ISO Method --"Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR"

    Hello, has anyone had experience with dealing with this speciifc problem?
    In short, upon rebooting, I am getting a black screen with a line of text that says, "Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR." Nothing happens after that.
    I am using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. I have an ISO of Windows 7 Prof. along with an 8GB usb drive. I changed the coding in my bootcamp program to allow for the normally first invisible option that allows creation of a USB Installation program using an ISO that is normally only for computers without an optical drive.
    I have that box checked, the check for new software box, and the install windows box checked. I went through the process of creating the USB, downloading the software, and partitioning the drive. Then on restart, I get the failed to load bootmgr error.
    Some people have suggested using two usb drives for this. I am trying that method but it does not seem to help thus far.
    Can anyone offer any help?
    Thanks.

  • Can I purchase Mountain Lion and make a flash drive bootable? I do not want to install it on my Macbook Pro. I have Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro now, and due to my hard drive needing repair I need to boot off of another source, like my flash drive.

    Can I purchase Mountain Lion and make a flash drive bootable? I do not want to install it on my Macbook Pro. I have Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro now, and due to my hard drive needing repair, I need to boot off of another source, like my flash drive. I am in Paris and my Snow Leopard DVD is in Texas.

    Mac OS X has a built-in disk diagnostic and repair program called fsck or file system consistency check. Here’s how to verify and repair your startup disk with fsck.  As soon as you hear the startup tone, press and hold Command-S on the keyboard. Keep holding down those keys until you see a black screen with white lettering. This is called “booting into Single User Mode.”  As the Mac boots in this mode, the screen reports each step of the process. The line should end in root#.  Right after the root# prompt, enter the following: /sbin/fsck -fy
    If repairing the disk in single user mode fails, it means one of two things. Either your hard drive itself is failing (a hardware failure), or the directory damage on your hard drive is beyond the capability of the built-in repair procedures in OS X.

  • Windows boot manager boots almost fully into windows 8 before letting me select windows 7, at which point it reboots my computer

    Hi,
    I haven't used my slow HDD with windows 7 on it in a while, but today my SDD with windows 8 on it died. I have kept my old OS in a dual boot setup exactly for this rare possibility. I in fact successfully revived my SSD from windows 7.
    During the restore procedure I had to boot into both OSes (7 and 8) several times before I managed to get 8 working. I tried a lot of things before one of them struck. (Is that how the phrase goes?
    Me Hungary, no good speak English some times...) I am surprised to have found the following unexpected behavior of the new windows 8 branded boot loader:
    The new windows boot manager boots almost fully into windows 8 before letting me select an OS.
    If I select windows 7, it reboots my computer and loads windows 7, wasting a lot of time... on the windows 8 portion of the boot process, which is simply thrown away if I happen need windows 7 and not 8.
    "This is highly inefficient!" — I almost exclaimed aloud... A boot manager should load just enough of itself so that a simple OS selection menu can be presented to the user with minimal keyboard interaction. Only when a selection is made should
    it load an OS. I have no use for the new boot manager's mouse control support, and having it appear on the second screen in my dual screen setup is just plain scary. Use the main laptop monitor where the BIOS messages were displaying, and keep the secondary
    off until the OS is done booting! By the time my secondary screen turns on, the boot selection menu disappears anyway.
    Yes, I only noticed this problem now because I haven't booted into windows 7 for a long time. (300 MB worth of Windows updates were waiting for me indeed.) My boot selection menu timeout is set to 3 seconds instead of 30 so I don't have to pick windows 8
    every time.
    I am going to wait at least a week for the forum's input before I switch on my own to a faster, minimalist boot manager. I don't know what to use, I'm familiar with:
    some minimalist bootstrap loaders
    coreboot/linuxbios (recently learned of it)
    bootcamp (not really)
    acronis OS selector (discontinued before windows 8 came out, probably doesn't support it)
    syslinux/isolinux (Linux only, I think)
    old Windows bootmgr
    more recent Windows ntldr
    then this new "inefficient for dual booting" Windows 8 boot manager
    and finally grub
    Grub feels like the best option as it keeps the windows boot manager intact and supports mac, windows, and linux. All 3 of which will at one point — or has already — come up as a subject or prerequisite in my university.
    I don't know how or why I was able to access windows 8's boot loader while my SSD was dead. Was it installed on the HDD, overwriting the windows 7 boot loader? That too is inefficient. I want to completely boot from my SSD. Don't spin up my HDD while I'm
    booting my laptop on the go! The shaking of the vehicle I'm in could seriously damage the disk if I run into a pothole (common in my country) with just the right timing, data could be damaged. The entire reason windows 8 is on an SSD is so that it can boot
    without accessing my HDD with all its moving parts. My goal with buying an SSD was for the HDD to remain safely offline while I'm in a shaky environment with potholes! Also, what if I want to disconnect the old HDD in the future... Or what if it dies? Will
    the windows 8 boot loader die with windows 7? I want the two kept separately and completely independent from each other for exactly this reason.
    In summary:
    How can I stop windows 8 from almost fully booting before offering the dual boot OS selection menu? Do I need a better Boot loader?
    Why was the boot loader that came with windows 8 still working OK while the SSD with windows 8 on it wasn't accessible? Did it sneak its way onto the old HDD? I want a 100% SSD-based boot process. What is the boot loader doing on a different drive? Its
    place is on the SSD, with the operating system it belongs to. Not on the HDD of a different OS. Can I move it?
    Sincerely,
    Daniel "3ICE" Berezvai
    p.s.: For windows 7 I only have a repair disk and hidden RECOVERY partition which I kept (came with the laptop, would rather not use it.) The Windows 8 pro DVD (purchased last year) is fine, but I had it moved to a bootable pendrive so I could remove my
    optical drive and replace it with an SSD on which windows 8 is installed now. (I also have a vista ultimate DVD, as they were giving them away for free on a Microsoft conference. Funny story.)
    p.p.s.: I am subscribed (☑ Alert me) to this topic and will respond to all questions and try all recommended actions right away.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your post.
    From your description, I see the issue you are facing is there is no menu to choose OS when booting dual boot(Windows 7 & Windows 8). Please let me know if I have misunderstood anything.
    It seems that the Windows 7 entry is missing, currently, we can use a tool –
    EasyBCD to get it back. After downloading it, choose the Add/Edit panel item, select the OS you're missing and let the program detect it. Then simply click the Add button to add the missing OS entry.
    At the meantime, here is a related link which demonstrates how to keep Windows 7 as the default OS in dual boot, you may use it for a reference.

  • My IPOD WONT PLAY SOUND ON VIDEOS

    i just got an ipod and i can play videos but there is no sound. the videos i want to play are music videos i have downloaded and ren and stimpy videos and meet the barkers tv series. i have clicked convert to ipod in itunes and they convert but after they convert they lose there sound on itunes and when i transfer them to the ipod there is no sound. has anyone else got this problem or have an idea to correct it. please help cuz i have minimal ipod / computer knowledge and i need all the help i can get thanks

    i downloaded a few videos and they played fine on
    itunes. BUT, they couldnt be added to my ipod. i
    followed instructions to convert them for my ipod but
    the converted videos dont have any sound. when i put
    the converted videos on my ipod, they wont play- they
    show up like a song- white background, name of song
    and band, and, instead of the album cover, there is a
    still frame from the video. is there something wrong
    with the videos??? help!!!!
    That sometimes happend to me when I converted the videos using Itunes....So, I use this converter instead...
    Videora Ipod Coverter
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
    It'a a free program to download and your videos should play fine in your ipod once you use this to covert them.
    As for the videos not playing for you, it could be the fact that you coverted them using Itunes, so try the above converter instead and that should work okay. If that still doesn't work for you try getting your settings back to their original state - Go to 'Settings' and then 'reset Settings' and this will put your settings back the way they were once you bought the ipod originally. The videos should definately play in your ipod then.
    If you need anymore help, just let me know, I know how annoying it is when the videos won't play properly!!!
    Good luck with it!

  • [SOLVED] systemd & separate /boot causing boot failure

    I'm working on moving to systemd, and I'm having a boot issue. I don't think my setup is particularly peculiar, but essentially: I have 2 disks, sda and sdb. sda contains some windows partitions, and /dev/sda4 is my data/homedir partition. /dev/sdb holds my arch install:
    /dev/sda4 - /home (btrfs) (no label)
    /dev/sdb1 - /boot (ext2) label=arch-boot
    /dev/sdb2 - swap label=arch-swap
    /dev/sdb3 - / (btrfs) label=arch-root
    I have the expected entries in /etc/fstab:
    UUID=XXXX / btrfs default 0 1
    UUID=XXXX /boot ext2 defaults 0 1
    UUID=XXXX /home btrfs defaults,relatime,ssd 0 1
    UUID=XXXX swap swap defaults 0 0
    This worked fine under initscripts (again, nothing hugely weird here), but under systemd what effectively happens is the various devices seem to be automounted by systemd, as well as being mounted via fstab. So, during boot I get mounts:
    /dev/sdb3 on /media/arch-root type btrfs
    /dev/sdb1 on /media/arch-boot type ext4
    /dev/sda4 on /media/usbhd-sda4
    as well as the "fstab versions":
    /dev/sdb3 on / type btrfs
    /dev/sda4 on /home type btrfs
    Notably, the "fstab version" of /boot is missing. During boot, the 'boot.mount' unit fails, with:
    mount: /dev/sdb1 is already mounted or /boot busy
    mount: /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on /media/arch-boot
    And bootup stops. Manually invoking "mount /boot" fails with the same error. I see the "automount" unit:
    $ systemctl|grep boot.mount
    boot.mount load failed failed /boot
    media-arch\x2dboot.mount load active mounted /media/arch-boot
    So, I can then issue:
    $ systemctl stop 'media-arch\x2dboot.mount'
    $ systemctl start 'boot.mount'
    Which does successfully unmount the "automount" version, and mount the "fstab version", and I can then exit the emergency shell and boot normally. However, I am unable to issue, say "systemctl disable 'media-arch\x2dboot.mount'"; I simply get a complaint of "Failed to issue method call: No such file or directory." This probably makes sense, and comes down to a misunderstanding on my part between units, services, targets, etc.
    I'm assuming it's *not* expected that we just allow all devices to be automounted (i.e. just remove my /boot entry from fstab)? How can I mark these entries as "do not automatically create mount points under /media"? Or, alternatively, make sure the fstab entries are loaded first, obviating the need for the automount? I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious here as I doubt this is a strange setup, but unfortunately I haven't had much google success when my search criteria are "systemd" and "/boot"...
    Last edited by nogoma (2012-08-16 14:10:34)

    So, this was actually not systemd related, as I discovered when I booted under initscripts again. Essentially, I had an overly general rule in /etc/udev/rules.d that was causing the automount behavior; restricting the matching devices to my non-boot disks fixed the issue.

    Since we have the ‘National Virtual Bench’ connected to our docking station (USB) we sometimes face some boot/re-boot problems with our laptop.
    The booting hangs, and shows below message on the display. Power Off/On doesn’t help.
    It appears to be caused by the Virtual Bench, when switched On. When Switched Off, booting is okay.
    Switch off the Virtual Bench box when booting/re-booting the Laptop.

    Just to follow up: The behavior I was getting above (stuck at the Dell logo for ~80 seconds) was because the Dell Latitude E6330 BIOS (version A02) wasn't giving the device a standards-permitted amount of time after a particular USB control message. That problem was fixed in version A06.
    I was able to reproduce your issue on the E6330 with BIOS versions A08 through A14. Those versions seems to get confused by the presence of a composite USB device with both HID and Mass Storage interfaces (such as VirtualBench). A14 is currently the latest version for that model, so I suspect this is still a problem in the latest versions for other Dell Latitudes and Optiplexes.
    We're working on escalating this issue to Dell. In the meantime, the workaround is the one you've already discovered: either disconnect your VirtualBench or put it into standby (power button) while booting your laptop.
