Powermac G5 wont sleep, and weird squares show up where mouse is

I just reinstalled for the third time Tiger on my Dual 2gb G5 with a 30" Cinema, Was working great till I reinstalled to OS to make a new user account. Now it wont sleep, When I manually put it to sleep, the mouse dissapears, and nothing else happens. It also gets these 1/16" squares and weird anolmolys on the screen when the mouse sits, especially when I scroll wheel, It makes a line of squares. I have tried resetting the PMU, (opening the case and pushing the little button on the Mother board).
I am at a loss, Can you reset the pram on the G5? or is it even nessesary?
when it goes to the screen saver the screen just freezes, and then wakes up from the screen saver fine.

Stumbled upon the answer, I didnt remember ever installing the drivers for the ATI Video card, but had a brain **** and installed them from the web, Solced the problem, Thanks. Your last line was inspired!

    Hello um:
The logs will indicate what is happening. I have a similar problem (rare, but it happens). I have traced the wake event to a USB hub that contains the Bluetooth hardware. I ignore the issue as it happens infrequently. I do not know of a setting that would cause this to happen.
You could try trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restarting. That probably will not help, but it will not hurt anything.

  • Apps Wont Delete And Weird Icon

    -Hi
I was downloading an app. In the process of downloading my internet got cut off. After I got my internet back, the app that i was downloading is stuck. I tried to delete the app but the icon is still there. It is a grey gridded square with an X through the middle and a series of concentric circles superimposed over that. Btw, it is not on waiting. It's just say the name of the app. Help!

OMG,Thank You So Much.. That fixed it! You Are My Saviour!!!

  • Weird hieroglyphics showing up where HUD controls should be

Recently moved my system to 2010 Mac Pro. I did this manually because I wanted to reinstall FCS3. But now Motion is showing me weird hieroglyphics in place of where my HUD controls should be.
    I posted a picture here:
    http://www.truelifemedia.com/guestfolder/motionissue.tiff
Seems like it's using strange thumbnails of currently running programs...
    Any thoughts?

The MXO might be contributing, no way for me to tell from here. You can only remove the device and connect a known display.
I am sorry deleting prefs did not solve anything for you. it was unlikely at best.
Reinstalling your entire system from scratch is the next logical step but there is no guarantee it will solve anything either. Be sure to make a clone of your system drive to your external drive, just in case. (A scorched earth approach to rebuilding your drive will take 4-12 hours. You've probably already wasted that much time. But rebuilding your drive will solve noting if you have a bad graphics card or the EPROMS on the card need to be reflashed and, no, I have no idea how to do that, sorry.)
    Keep us posted.

  • Leopard wont sleep, makes me restart every time

my powermac G5 wont sleep. It used to - until i turned it off for a week. Every time i try to sleep it gets the greyed out screen, and says restart. when i do restart it comes back on and says unexpected shut down.
    I have tried:
    unplugging all usb/firewire items
    reset pram
    reset scu (?)
passed a full hardware test from the installation disc
done an archive and install back to 10.5 (10.5.2 ruined my Bigpond ADSL modem!)
spent 2 hours on the phone to apple care (they do care, they just cant fix it!)
    Any guesses???

It's in your manual. If you don't have it handy, here's the list of PDFs.
    http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/powermac/
For mine, it's toward the bottom of the motherboard below the memory slots. Earlier Power Mac G5's may be different.

  • My imac wont boot  and a small square shows up next to the cursor

    Hi
my imac wont boot and a small square shows up next to the cursor. I can open in safe mode. I have reinstalled the OSX, but can't boot from back-up.
    Any advice?

OK.....I figured it out.....after reading endless threads on the cursor issue, I found out that apple calls the cursor a MOUSE POINTER..! and the square that follows it a 'corruption'...GO FIGURE!
Anyway, this is what I did.
I tried reinstalling Mountain Lion....online install. It didn't resolve the issue. Same problems
Then, I tried reinstalling from the original DVD install disc....this wasn't possible (no access sign over install icon).
So I finally erased my hard drive (after rebooting command - r), BUT NOT BEFORE BACKING UP MY FILES, APPLICATIONS, SETTINGS and any other important data!!!!!!!
    Then started up command R
    Then reinstalled Mountain Lion online
My iMac started up like it does when you install 'out of the box'...follow the instructions....
my cursor, or mouse pointer is now free of it's 'corruption', and boots up just fine!
Hope this helps anyone out there with the same issue

  • I was updating to ios7 and my phone turned off and now it wont turn back on. it shows the apple sign but it slowly fades away and so on. Help!

i was updating to ios7 and my phone turned off and now it wont turn back on. it shows the apple sign but it slowly fades away and so on. Help!

    Hello there, RFJA2211.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great troubleshooting steps for unexpected power off of your iOS device:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • My macbook wont wake up of sleep and beeps 3 times.. why???

My macbook pro 10.5.8 Intel Core due 2 goes to sleep and it would boot up for example in 3 hours .. but if it is more than 3 hours it wont boot up and starts to make 3 infinite beeps.. its so weird .. what can I do???
and when I had my old battery the span was like 1 hour .. i bought a new one like 4 days ago and I thought that would resolve the problem

According to this Apple article 3 beeps means no good banks.
It's possible your RAM just needs to be reset (it's loose).

  • I have copied over my music file to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit Preferences has the right location

I have copied over my music files to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit>Preferences has the right location?

Select one of the tracks with a broken link, press ctrl-i to Get Info. Say No when iTunes asks if you would like to locate the track, then look at the Summary tab for the location expects to find the file in.
Now try to locate the file in question. The two locations should give a clue as to what to do next.
Here is an example with a file I've deliberately moved from the new layout to the old pre-iTunes 9 layout.
This means iTunes is expecting to find the file at:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
but it isn't there because I've moved it to:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
which is where it would have lived back in iTunes 8 (though the media folder would have been called iTunes Music back then as well).
If you can provide the expected and actual locations of a broken track I should be able to suggest the easiest way to resolve things.

  • Macbook Pro Randomly Goes to Sleep and Wont Wake Up

My Macbook Pro started having this problem a few months ago and it has gotten progressivly worse and worse. It will randomly go to sleep but I wont be able to wake it back up. The keys are lit up and the light on the front is pulsing, but no matter what I do it wont wake up. So I have to do a hard reset to turn it back on. This happens a few times a day so its pretty infuriating. I have read on other forums about people having this same problem but havent been able to find a solid solution.
Here is what kind of Macbook I have:

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

Hey this was happening to me too! So i called apple care, i have a the Late 2011 Macbook Pro, and this is what they suggested:
    1. open system preferences
    2. open engery saver
    3. look at "Computer sleep" and move it over to a longer time period
for instance I had mine at 5 minutes so thats why it would go to sleep all the time
-now I set it to 25 minutes
    Hope that fixes your problems!

  • IMac wont boot and has yellow squares at launch!!!

Ok, so Friday as I come home from buying Snow Leopard all excited because I also bought an DVI to HDMI cable to hook my 24 inch 3.06 10.5.8 iMac up to my TV. So as my laptop is upgrading to snow leopard I decide to hook up the TV. I plug the cables in and all is good. I went out and downloaded an app called TV Row.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/30081
It takes front row and puts it on an external monitor. Perfect, they have a brand new update out for snow leopard (which the iMac doesn't have yet) so i think its all good. But when I restart the computer it wont boot and I get a crazy boot screen with light yellow squares everywhere. It gets to the grey apple logo and the gear spins for about a minute and then locks up. I noticed that it was extremely hot!! I went and got a fan and put on the back of it but if i leave it running for about 15 minutes it will burn my hand. I have network access to it so im completely backed up and and down to start from scratch on it. Any ideas. Ill link a picture of what the yellow squares look like.

    Please Help!!!

If you put the Mac OS X Install DVD in the drive and restart your computer while holding down the Option key, and then click on the DVD when it appears on the screen, are you able to boot into the Installer? If so, can you try reinstalling Mac OS X (using the Archive and Install option) or perhaps restoring from a Time Machine backup?
If you're not even able to boot from the DVD, I'd suggest calling in an appointment and taking it to Apple right away before any significant damage is caused to the hardware.

  • My phone wont turn on ive tried holding the sleep and home button and nothing happened help?

i turned my phone off and it wont turn on ive tried holding the sleep and home button and nothing happened...i plugged it in to my computer and i didnt connect to itunes help

The two first choices are to reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, that can take up to half a minute.  If that does not work, then more drastic is to restore using the recovery mode to connect to a computer running iTunes, described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and summarized as:
