Powermac(s) G5 will not install operating system(s).

I have read many posts, but no posts resolve this issue. With wiped or new hard drives, the operating system install dvd disk fails to install and hangs with a last line panic message repeatably mentioned by others and now me "We are hanging here..."
I have a quad core G5 with a wiped and new hard drive. When using a powermac G5 install of the manufactured time of the machine, the install hangs. The install is 10.4. What was on the hard drive before it was wiped was 10.5. I have tried several different disks all with same result. I have done all the obvious and previously failed thing: pulled the battery, reset PRAM, tried different hard drives, other dvd drives, etc. I read that Apple claims to many that the logic board or processors are bad and to throw out the units.
+*Here is the twist.*+ I have four of these units. Prior to wiping they hard drives, they all were in perfect working order. I have 16 more that have not had the hard drives wiped, and all behave exactly the same way when I try to install the operating system while booting off the DVD install disk. If I launch the install disk from the systems when the systems are happily running, they too fail with exactly the same message. I therefore doubt that hardware is at fault and that they all suddenly have bad logic boards, then good, then bad. Or that they are all breaking at the same time when every single one of them were working fine everyday.
I want to get the ones with the wiped drives up and running again. I don't want to put the systems from the unwiped ones on the wiped ones.
Interesting isn't it? Very I think. How much good hardware has been wasted by this issue?
Any ideas? Please, put on your thinking caps.

Hi SeeHere, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I don't want to put the systems from the unwiped ones on the wiped ones.
I fail to understand why you'd not want to try tat on at least one using FireWire target disk mode...

And using carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD...

Or SuperDuper...

Prior to wiping they hard drives, they all were in perfect working order.
What OS/Mac did you use to do that?
In Disc Utility>blue Info icon, what Format & Partition scheme is reported?

  • Macbook Pro Retina- not 3 months old - will not install operating system

My computer which I bought in May 2013 and have had documented problems all along died last Monday after taking it in for them to test the hard drive. They said it was fine. Within 20 minutes of using it nothing worked at all. I talked to a Tech supervisor - he walked me through erasing everything and then reinstalling. It said it could not download components to install OS X. I tried again. Same thing. I talked to a different Tech supervisor who had me do an internet recovery and then try and install - same message. Now he says for me to take it back to Apple and have them do it. The thing is.... he said when I get it home I'm to work with a tech to install all the software on piece by piece to make sure none of it caused the problem(this same software is still on my old computer and works fine) then piece by piece reinstall all my data. OK... a pain but... However he said a month or more down the line - it still could be the hard drive and we will have to do this ALL over again!!!!!  I have taken the computer into Apple several times, I have talked with Apple Care people countless time, sent reports in all all the crashes... and yet they can do nothing more. I haven't had a useable computer in almost a week and this is OK on a basically brand new computer..... Has this happed to anyone else? I do not have much confidence in Apple as the third time I took it in the guy in the one to one session, did something to totally screw up my email and internet connection and it took me too several hour sessions with another Apple Care supervisor to get it working- this was of course just outside of their 14 day return policy - I think it was 21 days out! Very upset this may continue to be a proble. I thought Apple was supposed to really stand behind their products- they tell me all they are required to do is to keep fixing it as long as I have Apple Care - then what? Thanks if anyone has any thoughts!

This has not happened to me, but in this case, you'd do best to move "up the chain" to find satisfaction. Set an appointment with your Apple Store and outline your situaiton; they probably have customer service notes. You shouldn't have to do any fixes yourself; the Apple staff should do this for a machine that's still under warranty.
If this doesn't work, then ask for a supervisor. Don't fall through the cracks. Demand a fully working computer, or demand a replacement that works. When you reach a dead end, ask for several specfic contacts. Names and email addresses.
And then, there's this: http://www.computerlemonlaw.com/rights.html Your results will depend on your computer and the laws in your state.
And please post here with your results.

Will boot BIOS no problem. When you exit BIOS Windows starts to boot, then goes to a screen that reads. repair windows or boot normally. There is also a message at the top that says there could have been a change in software or hardware.

Judging from what I'm reading in your post you have installed a HDD from another PC with Windows already installed on it. It's not going to boot if that's true and you will need to do a fresh install of Windows on it or at the very least try a repair install.

  • Operating system. We have Premier Pro CS6 and 32-bit Windows 7. It will not install

    Dell Laptop Latitude 6420
    Windows 7 Professional
    8GB Ram
A user in Public Relations needs to use Adobe Premier Pro CS6. However when we tried to install it the program is grayed out and has a caution icon. If I hover over it there is a message that says it prefers 64-bit. Prefers does not mean will not work in my opinion. However it will not install.
I read that Premier Pro is 64-bit only on another web site. Is this true? There has to be a solution.
On the Adobe site I saw that installing CS4 Premier was the work around but you have to purchase a license key. We have already purchased Premier Pro and do not have money in the budget to purchase an older product when this one should work.
Please help. I am under a lot of pressure to resolve this

Premiere Pro CS6 is 64 bit software and will only install on a 64 bit computer. There is no way around that.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • ITunes 11.1.4 will not install properly - windows 8.1, 64 bit.  My only way to recover is to restore my system.  iTunes 11.1.3.8 functions properly.  When will Apply provide a workable update?

iTunes 11.1.4 will not install properly - windows 8.1, 64 bit.  The only way I have found to recover is to restore my system.  I have unistalled/reintalled iTunes two times.  No success.  iTunes 11.1.3.8 functions properly (following system restore).  When is Apply expected to provide a workable update?

Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?

    Hi there!
Yes, same problem too; I've already sent an email to apple support and just received a very vague and unpractical response with "call apple support in your country" as main advice. I've obviously emailed back stating that I need a clearer response and I don not have any intention to spend money calling for support when updates is a free tool. I do also believe this is a probem generated on Apple's end, I just wish they learned to say "sorry, it's us;  working on it!"

  • Simply will not install! Please help...

    Hello guys.
Recently managed to buy myself a new MacPro and have given my old PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics) to my daughter to work with while at university on her Art course.
This original machine (with a bus speed of 100) has been upgraded so that it now has the following specs:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G4
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,3
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3,3)
    Number of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.2GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    L3 Cache (per CPU): 2MB
    Memory: 1.31 GB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1
It also has a RADEON 9200 Graphics Card.
Bought FCE for her to start her editing... but it simply will not instal. It WILL install the accomp[anying "Live Type" and "Soundtrack" applications perfectly, but the "Final Cut Express" application remains dimmed out when running the installer from the disks.
Have I overlooked something in the specs and done something horribly stupid?
Any help you can offer would be mightily, mightily appreciated. Thank you.

You don't say what the Operating System is.
It should be at least OSX 10.4.6 and QuickTime 7.0.4.
    Ian.
SORRY ! I have just noticed the 10.4.9 at the bottom of your post.

  • I am trying to use an education program that needs Java applets to install and use and it will not use Safari. When I download IE from the web it will not install. How can I get a browser that will work on my MacAir for travel use of this program?

I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Windows 8.1 will not install the driver for Officejet 6310 All-in-One

Have downloaded the driver from the HP website, but it will not install. The download wizard "detected a problem with the driver software" but did not say how to resolve it. The option to download the software was still available, so I did that anyway. When attempting to execute from my hard-drive, extraction occurs, followed by a delay, and then a message that reads "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". This is in an error box headed "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library".  Can anyone help please?

    Hi AB-Comp,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that your are seeing the error The download wizard "detected a problem with the driver software". I am happy to help you with this issue! I have some questions for you:
What Operating System are you using? Windows or Mac? What version?
Can you make copies with the printer?
How is the printer connected? Wireless, Ethernet, or USB?
Is the power cable plugged into a surge protector or directly to the wall outlet?
Hope to hear from you, and thank you for posting!
