PowerPC 7500 Power Supply Pin Outs?

Anyone got a link to page with the pin outs for a 7500 power supply?
I have a 614-0039 and I need to test it.... not sure if the paper clip trick will work to start it.
It's a 22-pin connector and no green wire!

You might try a universal AC Adapter from Radio Shack. Radio Shack's AC Adapter has multiple interchangeable plug types & you can set the exact voltage via a switch on the power supply too. They're not too expensive either if that worries you.

500W Power Supply kicks out sometimes - too much load?

I have a brand new 500W power supply from Aspire:

I have a problem though. When I turn the PC on, I can be working fine for a while and all of a sudden BAM, the power goes off on the system. I cannot get it to power back up unless I remove the power cable from the back and turn the power switch off and on. However, it seems to be random in how long it stays up.
I did a complete case rebuild, in which I added a lot more fans and a HardCano 12 controller and other goodies, which is why I went for something more that the stock 350W that came with my X-Dreamer II case.
Is this a problem created by how much load I'm placing on the PS? If so, I can remove a device or two, or make sure I don't pump the fan RPM up too much.

I'm fairly sure that it's not my overclocking as I was able to sustain those speeds even before doing the case upgrade and modding on a (generic) Turbolink 350W power supply.
The HardCano seems to draw on the 12V rail. What other components typically draw on this? I'll see if I can calculate it out and see if I'm just trying to draw too much juice.
Sorry for being such a n00b when it comes to this stuff. I don't know a lot about electronic engineering. I guess I should have paid more attention in university physics. LOL

Intel Xserve Blower for Power Supply 1 Out drops to 0 RPM momentarily

10.5.6 Server. Machine is less than a year old. Yesterday I configured Server Monitor for the first time and have received two notifications of the blower for the Power Supply Out changing to zero RPM. It is momentary and goes back to normal.
Everything else is in the normal range -- temp, voltage.
Is this normal or indication of future failure?

Hi Forum folks.
I've had a 6-month (ish) Xserve doing the same thing. Every day, at least once a day, I'd get an email / SMS, saying the power supply or blower was having a momentary problem.
After shutting down the server, I pulled out the Power Supply Units, and checked them out.
Turns out, one of them had a slightly damaged heat sink (damage visible without opening the PSU). So, I swapped it for a spare I'd purchased. And then got the damaged unit (damaged internally at factory by the look of it) replaced by my Apple Reseller.
Note: the newer Intel XServes (early 2008) have a 750w PSU, compared to a 650w PSU, in the 2006 Intel XServes. The older PSUs fit in the newer Xserves, but they DO NOT function. (You'll get an error in Server monitor).

My Power supply Pooped out

My G4 MDD 1.25 Power supply died, "dead as a duck", I shopped about new apple PS is more than the cost of the computer, plus they are not a stock item anyway (in my area).
Question,my PC supplier asked me why can't I use a PS from a later windows box, he says the connector to the mother board appears to have the same ammount of cables and colours, so, he thinks that the voltages may be the same just a matter of a few mins soldering the connectors across.
Has anyone tried this and with what particular windows PS.

Thanks for the advice, No it blows zippo, easy way to tell it's dead is when power plug is inserted no small zappy noise is heard, Local Mac spare parts guy said these are hard to find now and mother boards are also failing.
I even put another fuse inside the PS, it blew that too..it's goosed.
Worst part is that it also took out the System HDD, and to make things even more worse it had all my latest emails were on that, system back up was only to two months ago..
Have decided to completely dump the G4 and Try to remain working on my Macpro for now, (Now No back-up Mac).
Another frustrating thing is that I had new clean power lines installed from the fuse box to the computers with surge protection adapters just late last year at a cost of over $1200.
Looks like sys back ups have to be scheduled every day or even more, I'm thinking that apple knew these total failures would occur and that could be why they introduced time machine..cynical viewpoint I know.
Now I have to also shelve my sonnet card and my AJA KonaLS card, what a costly waste of resources.

PowerMac G5 Power Supply Replacement _ Sharing some information

I thought I might share my experience here with the recent replacement of the 600w power supply on my DP 1.8 G5.
Like many who have experienced the failure, the loud cap gun like sound when the PS failed was a sound I didn't want to hear.
Because this system is the workhorse of my business it was imperitve that we ether got it back up and running or replace it. After a quick call to Apple, even though the system is out of warrenty, I realized this was going to be an in house repair, one because of the cost invloved, and two because of our time frame.
My thought was how bad can a power supply replacement be? We replace them all the time on our Web Servers and other Linux based systems.
To those of you that have done this G5 repair I'm sure you are snickering about this time.
We were able to locate a new power supply and had it over nighted. To those of you ready to tackle the job here is our experience:
1. Remove the fans, both the front and rear.
2. Pop off the covers on the processor heat sinks so you can get to the allen head screws that hold the processors in place. ( Yes you have to pull the processors to remove the power supply) Make sure you have a 2.5mm allen head driver with at least a 5.5" shank so you reach the screws that hold the processor in place.
3. Mark the processors, A or B, top or bottom, you want them going back in the same slots.
4. Once you have loosened the screws (leave them in the posts, no need to pull them out) pull each processor straight up. Don't wiggle them or rock them, you don't want to bend any pins.
5. If you have the lower RAM slots filled I would pull the RAM, you'll need the room to get the Power Supply cover out of the way. Again be sure to mark the modules so there is no mismatch.
6. Remove the 2 screws that are holding the PS cover in place. I found that if you lift the front of the plate up and then slide it to the front, it clears the case. It IS tight to remove this cover, be careful not to jam it against the logic board. I also found its flexable so I could torque it a little from the middle to pull it out.
7. Remove the 4 screws from the bottom of the case, they hold the PS in place.
8. Remove the 3 connections from the logic board.
9. I found that with the case laying on its side, I tipped the power supply up horzontialy towards the top on the case, and then it lifted stratgit out.
10. Pop the new in the samew way the old one came out, and make the connections to the logic board. The front connection is a pain because the pig tail isn't all that long, so you end up doint it with one hand.
11. Reinstall the 4 screws on the bottom of the case, and reinstalled the PS cover using 2 screws.
12. Put you processors back in place, first the top and then the bottom, be careful here, you don't want to bend any pins, line up the posts and push straight in, you'll feel it seat itself. Tighten up the screws. Don't overtighten these they need to be snug.
13. Replace the ram, and the top covers for the heat sink and your fans.
At this point you should be all set, replace the dust covers close up the case and fire it up and all should be well.
We of course cleaned up the case before replacing the PS and we DID run into a problem with the top processor not seating properly. When the machine booted we got to a gray screen and that was it. I suspected a processor wasn't seating properly and when I pulled the top processor I found a piece of dust between the pins. Of course when I removed the dust I bent a pin, and spent the next 20 minutes realigning it it with a safety pin. I know bad idea but I was desparate. We got incredibly lucky with the alignmnet and the machine booted and has been running like the bear it is.
We have built and service a lot of machines over the years, and I have to tell you pulling processors to change a PS just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I also have to take issue with the unavailability of information from Apple. I KNOW they want you to use their services but not all of us are in the position to lay out 250 for a PS and another 300 for labor and wait 10 days:)
I was in touch with a couple of people I know that stated when they pull the PS they also pull the logic board. I didn't find that to be necessary in our situation.
Like always when you open the case take the necessary precautions with static discharge and electrical hazards.
Hope this helps somebody out there, I know there wasn't a whole lot of info I found for the task in detail.

You really need to call Apple and ask about your particular machine. Sometimes Apple will still honor the extended warranty if it applies, even if you're beyond the expiration, and your machine might fit a narrow set of circumstances that doesn't apply to everybody else.

Xserve G5 power supply ? problem

Well I bought a dead G5 Xserve on eBay (yeah, I know). followed the "system completely dead…" check in the Xserve repair PDF. Battery was dead, replaced that and reset PMU, nothing. Checked for voltage across the power supply pins. The only reasonable way I could find to do this with the power supply installed was to remove the bracket that holds the retaining thumbscrew, this exposes the solder joints for the pins on top of the connector. Checked for voltage across pins 1 and 8 and came up with zero. Bought a used "working" power supply on eBay and installed that along with a new battery, reset the PMU, checked for voltage at my power cord, plugged it in and pushed the start button. Fans came on lights blinking away as there was no RAM installed. Shut it down. Boughtt a couple of gigs of RAM and installed that along with a video card from a B & W G3 yosemite tower that was confirmed by a couple of sources as a cheap way to get video out. All of this installing and removing following ESD precautions. Pushed the start button…nothing. Removed both the RAM and the card…nothing. Checked for voltage at those pins—nothing. Bought a new in box Apple repair kit with a power supply, fan array and PCI fan. Installed all three of those with a fresh battery, reset PMU, pushed the start button…wait for it…nothing. Checked the power supply pins, zip for voltage. These parts looked to be brand new, free of any dust or signs of human meddling. Now even if every other part of this machine was trash, I should still get some trickle power out of a good power supply—yes? Am I really missing the boat here? I have checked the front panel connections and that the button actually presses the switch. Checked the connectoion from the MLB to the interconnect board and they are all clean, sound connections. This thing is in imaculate condition, no corrosion of any kind on the logic board or anywhere else. It is the revised MLB with the 2Gig RAM printed on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mac Pro 8-core Power Supply Making Humming Noise That Comes And Goes

This is in reference to a Mac Pro 3,1 8-core purchased around Feb 2008.
Lately, I've noticed a strange noise coming from my power supply that sounds like the noise a refrigerator radiator makes. It's a humming noise that rapidly comes and goes, constantly.
The power supply fan speed is running at 599rpm
I'm not sure if the problem could've been caused by adding additional ram (12GB, OWC) or an additional HDD (3rd HDD, WD), but I didn't really notice the noise until after adding these components.
What could be the cause of this problem? What are my repair options if necessary (without Apple Care)?

I know for a fact it is not any of my hard drives because the noise is becoming more frequent no matter what hard drive I use, I actually have a 1.5tb, a 1tb, two 500gb and two 320gb drives, I have set an appointment to take my system in and have it tested, it is starting to crash 5-6 times a day. I can not get a lot of work done with this annoying spinning noise and the shutting down. Thank god for my Apple care, and I have visited various forums that lead me to believe its the power supply going out, with the symptoms it is having. Use SNMP to monitor the power supply status of stacked switches

Does anybody know how to use SNMP to monitor the status of the internal power supplies of a group of stacked Cisco 3750 switches?
The switch stack has three 3750-48PS-E switches inter-connected by Cisco StackWise cable. IOS ver 12.1(19)EAlc. A single IP address is used to identify the switch stack. Every time I poll the OID chassisPs1Status (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.2.4.0 in CISCO-STACK-MIB), I only got the status for the Master switch of the switch stack. Is there any way to poll the power supply status of other switches in the switch stack?

Sorry to refresh such an old topic - but I am stuck with exactly this: Monitoring power supplies of a stacked Cisco Catalyst 3750-E.
I'm using the exact same OID's as described, but the problem is, the information shown on the SNMP output is not correct.

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station/802.11N-USA.
The power supply blew out in a storm.
Is the power supply on the Apple Store website
the proper replacement? It does not look the same!
It looks like the power supply for the older Airport devices.

The power supply in the AEBSn is not a user-replaceable item. You will need to have it serviced by Apple or an Apple certified technician.

Replacing Power Supply Problems

Apple Care had kindly sent me a new power supply. It is a self servicing part, i.e. I have to install it myself. Tried for 2 hours yesterday to get the old one out...didn't work.
The problems:
1. Middle screw on back of power supply does not get loose [the screw close to the power cord connector]. I tried to pull the power supply up while loosening screw...no success. Did anybody run in the same problem...how did you get this screw unstuck?
2. Middle case screw [the one at the bottom of the computer] needs to be turned to the right...which is in contradiction to the downloadable manual...but the front ot the screw still touches the power supply...and possibly holds it in.
How easy should the power supply come out...how much force can I apply without breaking the computer's case?
3. Ambient light sensor connector: comes as separate cable. Since I have not gotten the old power supply out, I do not know how to connect the cable to the new one. There does not appear to be a designated hole on the power supply.
Experiences welcome!

hi Jurgen.... i just get a new imac g5 and it presents power supply problems the very first day they bring it... so the retalier took it for a repair..i been wating for two months and no sings of a solution... i am looking for help but i can't reach anyone at apple .... so i need some tips here... what should i do?? i tried the chat agent but they are closed..and the retailer refuse tho give enough info to check out about the repair status..they keep saying that the frabric respond very slow and then that the new part they recieved from apple was defectous... well.. if anyone can give me some tip would be very nice and usefull.. i really don,t now what to do... some email to inform apple the situation ?.... thanks for read this... New battery/power supply problems

i bought my ibook on ebay, put in some upgrades and am pretty happy with it. One thing keeps making me extrememly angry. Randomly, without warning, the power supply cuts out. When I look at the port, the light's still on. This wouldn't be so bad because usually the battery would kick in. However, mine came without a battery. So, everytime my power supply cuts, the computer shuts off. What's the problem?

Mike,Check your Energy Saver options (Apple Menu > System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options Tab > 'Schedule' make sure this isn't set to turn off your iBook.
I'd also try resetting the Power Management Unit. (Click this link and follow the instructions).
At least your clamshell's a good deal lighter! (Doesn't it tip back too easily without the weight under the front?).
The problem with running a machine like this is that the Clamshell has no internal battery (unlike every other Mac ever!) this means that you really do need the main battery for correct operation of the system. You'll be forever re-setting date/time etc so it may be worth inv a main battery - even if it's a really cheap one that only gives you 10 minutes run time - it will guard against this type of problem.

Power supply for AGP graphics - 20 pin vs 22 pin?

So, the power supply on my G4 Sawtooth (dual 450) is about half dead. I looked online, figured out which part I needed, and actually found one on Ebay. It was kinda easy. Then I took it to my Aunt's house (she's a tech) to install, and lo and behold... I have a 22 pin connector on my motherboard. The power supply (that everything online pointed to as the correct part) is a 20 pin. So of course, that isn't going to work.
I checked out everything again last night and all over the place I see that the Sawtooth has a 20 pin connector. Mine is 22, I swear... what in the ****??? Why the discrepancy? And does anyone need a 237W power supply?

Gigabit G4, Digital Audio, Quicksilver and later Macs have a different power supply and motherboard that passes 28 Volts DC from the power supply to a connector for the ADC port graphics card. 28 VDC is passed to the Graphics card ADC port to power Apple's ADC monitors.)
If you are not using a ADC monitor, you might could cut off the connector from your existing supply & the purchased supply & connect the 22-pin connector to the purchased supply.

If you call around, you might be able to find an apple authorized repair shop in your area that can offer to put pull the hard dive out of the old computer and put it into an external hard drive.
