Powerpc application downloads

this problem keeps coming up "You cant open the application Age Of Empires II because powerpc applications are no longer supported" what do i do?

If you have a new macbook with Lion, or even an older one with Lion, and your signature says you are using Lion, Rosetta, the ppc emulator, is not supported in Lion.  So what do you do?  Complain to apple is about all you can do.  Or if your mac pro is old enough to revert to Snow Leopard then perphas you may be able to run your ppc program(s).
Alternatively, check with the author of that program to see if they have an intel version that will run on lion.

    In Safari's preferences:
Look in the folder displayed where you see the arrow. The actual Downloads folder is found in your Home (user) folder.

  • New MacPro 10.9.4 included Keynote. Worked fine. An update was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update and now get error message "You can't open the application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Any ideas?

New MacPro 10.9.4 purchased three weeks ago included Keynote. App worked fine. New update for Keynote was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update. Tried to launch app and now get error message "You can’t open the application “Keynote.app” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Confused as to why it worked prior to update. Nothing else has changed. No issues with recent iMovie, Pages or Numbers updates. Any ideas?

    I tested this:
Reinstalled Aperture 3.1 from the Trial Installer.
In some way it seems to be working. But the whole thing is a scary Chimera.
It can create an Aperture library. I can import and edit images, even in Graphic Converter ias an external editor.
But the Media Browser does not show the aperture Library that I created.
The versioning is inconsistent. The library appears as an Aperture 3.4 library in the Finder.  Aperture 3.5 seems to be able to read this library and to upgrade it to 3.5
The Applications folder is showing the application as version 3.4 and as compatible. Spotlight is showing it as illegal.
When opening the chimera Aperture, I see plenty of warnings in the Console window:
    An Aperture "Hang" report
    xpcproxy assertion failed
com.apple.IconServiceAgent: main failed to composite image
    quicklookd: Warning
and more ... the hang was critical. I had to force quit Aperture more than once.
So be careful. I would not trust any important Aperture library to this patched application, without testing thoroughly. Be careful with your  precious photos.

Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice ($10)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • I have Office:mac 2004 and it won't download on my new MacBook Air.  Is it too old?  It says PowerPC applications are no longer accepted.

I have old Office:Mac 2004 Student and Teacher Edition from my previous MacBook and it won't download onto my new MacBook Air via external optical drive and says that PowerPC applications are no longer supported.  Am I stuck bying the newer version or is there a way around the software issue so I don't have to spend more money.  Thanks for your help.

You can purchase Offce 2011 from MacMall for about $99 so it is well worth the money.  As said in a previous post by Kappy, you can try one of the free office suites available.  They can read Office files and can save documents in Office format.  Apple's iWork is also a good ffice suite afavilable from the App Store by download. I have used Open Office,Libre Office and Neo Office and have liked each one of them.  Neo Office has the closest match to Apple operating systems - it just feels like an Apple program.  Open Office and Libre Office are also very good choices and dont have much of a learning curve at all.

  • Downloaded 10.7 now can't access AppleWorks: "You can't open the application AppleWorks 6 because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

Downloaded 10.7 now can't access AppleWorks: "You can't open the application AppleWorks 6 because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

Yvan has got AppleWorks working under emulation:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15918064#15918064
    As to iWork:
Word Processing documents can be opened directly only in Pages.
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store).
Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.
To use other programs, or open Painting or Database documents at all, you must export from AppleWorks first. Nothing will import AppleWorks databases: the only way to deal with them is to export them to ASCII text (of course you need AW running to be able to do this) and open them in a database program - the best choices are Bento for very simple databases or FileMaker Pro - please see these pages:

If you want to downgrade back to Snow Leopard, please see Kappy's post here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15764708#15764746
Please particularly note his warning that the process will erase your hard disk and you must make a backup first (not in Time Machine using Lion).

  • How can I download powerpc applications

I am trying to download a CD for an online course.  I keep getting the following error message:  "You can't open the application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."  Is there any way around this problem?

  • You can't open the application tar because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.   Downloaded upgrade for Safari: using intel-based iMac

System Automatically notified me of an update for Safari - told it to continue.  After a few seconds, the system displayed about 12-14 error messages:
“You can't open the application tar because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.”
      Package being updated: Safari v6.0.1
    Package displayed size: 48.5 MB
    My system is:
NOTICE: it is NOT a PowerPC!
What's going on???   This is a reoccuring problem with many updates..

Your profile states Mac OS X (10.7.1) is this correct?
From the update web page this is the info
    Safari 6.0.1
Note: For OS X Mountain Lion systems, Safari 6.0.1 is included with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2.
SafariAvailable for: OS X Lion v10.7.5, OS X Lion Server v10.7.5, OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 and v10.8.1
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5502?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Perhaps you need to update from 10.7.1 to 10.7.5 if you can before trying to install the Safari update.
If you do update to 10.7.5, make sure you have good backups available.

  • A pop up is displayed every 10 seconds "You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"

Shortly after upgrading to version 10.7, I installed an application that was not compatable with the LION operating system.  The application was for an external Maxtor hard drive that appearantly was intened for an earlier Mac operating system.
Now I get the popup "You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" about every 10 seconds.
How to I get rid of this.
There is nothing to Force Quit.  The process (if it is a process) does not show up in Activity Monitor.  I have also tried to use the KILLALL command but no process is found by that name.

Absolutely frustrated by the same problem, just lost 3 hours of my day trying to uninstall after getting the same error message. The ONLY thing that worked for me was going to the following Maxtor (Seagate) URL:
    http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/199931en
I downloaded their "remove maxtor sw.zip" file
Click here to download the remove_maxtor_sw.zip file and store it on your system's desktop.
And it worked perfectly. Took 10 seconds and - after restarting - it was done.
What a waste of the day!!!

Upgraded to Lion. Tried to open my EPSON SCAN and get message PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What's the deal? how can I open my EPSON SCANNER which I use to email faxes and scan 35 slides to Iphoto. This is not good.

You can try Software Update or go to Epson and download the appropriate driver, if available.

  • My iMovie no longer works "PowerPC applications no longer supported"

My iMovie (v. 9.09) no longer works on my MacBook pro with osx 10.7.5, when I try to open the app I get the message "PowerPC applications no longer supported". I tried upgrading, but the mac store says I need osx 10.9 to upgrade. help!

You might try converting the .mp3 files to AIFF 16bit @ 48kHz Stereo just to see if it's a file format problem. AIFF requires iMovie to do much less work to play it back or do any adjustments on it. Easiest way to convert would be to download Audacity and just Export to AIFF I think.

  • How can I play The Sims Complete Collection without PowerPC applications being supported?

So I downloaded Mavericks a while ago after my friend told me it was a really good idea. I hated almost everything about it to start with and since then I've found I don't hate everything but still a lot of things. I was on Snow Leopard before and, even though it was old, it was lovely; I knew where I was with it and everything worked.
    Today I went to play The Sims Complete Collection for the first time since downloading Mavericks a few months ago and it told me 'You can't open the application "The Sims Complete because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I am SO ANGRY. I would quite happily buy the game again but they don't make them anymore so they'd all have the same system requirements. What's most frustrating is that I sold all my original edition Sims games that I'd been collecting for years to buy Complete Collection for Mac so I could still play the game I've played since the week it was released. Basically I need someone to tell me how to do one of these things;
1- Downgrade to Snow Leopard again. Bit extreme but I like the Sims a lot. I have the original discs that came with my macbook if that helps at all.
2- Don't think it can be done but is there a way I could have my Sims Complete Collection on my EA origins app? Like all my Sims 3 are.
    3-  Make PowerPC Applications playable
4- Basically anything that makes my game playable!

    Izzy118,
The short answer is that you will not be able to run Sims on your Mac unless a OSX Lion update is released.
Have a look at this thread on the Sims forum about a patch for Lion.
The long answer is that you can try to install Fusion and Snow Leopard Server, but at a cost.
Fusion is not free. Snow Leopard Server is several hundred dollars.
It will be less expensive to buy an old Mac just for your games.
    Sam.

  • Diablo II can't open b/c PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

Downloaded OSLion and now Diablo II can't open b/c PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

Correct. Lion does not support Rosetta, hence, no PPC applications. You need to install Snow Leopard in order to run a PPC application or have the application upgraded to a compatible version.

Buy version 2011 of MS Office.
Or you can download OpenOffice, LibreOffice or NeoOffice, which all come very close to working with MS files just like MS Office does.
Or iWord, I have heard, you can purchase.
