Powerpc won't run in Lion

Just installed Lion, all straight forward but found my account program wont run because it needs 'Rosetta', any ideas on what I can do.

Is it possible to duel boot and have snow leopard and Lion on the same computer?
Yes, but you have to partition your hard drive, which usually means erasing whatever you have.  So backup, backup, backup.
Or use a second hard drive.  Either external or internal, if your iMac can take one.  Install Snow Leopard on one drive and Lion on the other drive.  Which ever version of OSX you'll be using the most, that is what I recommend you install to the internal drive.
Preferably, I'd recommend installing Snow Leopard to the external hard drive and making it only to run the accounting program (and whatever else won't run on Lion.)  That way if the program is updated to work with Lion, you won't have to reinstall Lion on your internal hard drive when you're ready to move past Snow Leopard.

  • Many of my applications won't run under Lion.

I used to run Tiger on a G4 Powerbook and a G4 Quicksilver.  Now I have a new iMac running Lion but it does not support my PowerPC apps such as Toast or Popcorn.  Also the drivers for many devices such as my printer, scanners and external LaCie HD aren't supported.  Replacing everything is going to be expensive - any suggestions for workarounds?  I'd also like to hear of any good DVD burning/copying applications that will run under Lion other than Roxio's.

You mentioned LaCie external hard drives - there is no driver needed for an external HD. Plug it in. If it is formatted correctly (which means it needs to be Mac OS extended (Journaled) and GUID Partition scheme (under Options) in order to be bootable on an Intel), there is nothing else you need. You may need to reformat to GUID if you're coming from a PPC. Note: back up your data first because the drive will be wiped,
I've used Toast and updated it - they usually have special update offers if you're coming from an earlier version. As for your printer and other hardware - if it is old but still works, you could keep using it with your old Mac (transfer whatever you want to print over to the old Mac and print from there) or start upgrading.

  • CS3 Uninstaller won't run in Lion - how to uninstall manually?

I migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac to a new Lion Mac (keeping the same username and keychain) and CS3 Web Premium runs fine, except Dreamweaver won't launch (just a blank dialog).
I want to uninstall just Dreamweaver (if possible) so I can try reinstalling from disc, but I can't uninstall CS3 at all:  The "Add or Remove Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium" alias in Utilities asks for my password... and then simply exits.
How can I uninstall Dreamweaver CS3 manually? I know you're not supposed to, but the steps must exist: whatever the uninstaller does, I can do--if I know what to do. (I'd rather not uninstall all of CS3--if I even could--since Photoshop/Flash/Illustrator are working fine, and I've got all my custom settings in them.)
Or, can I troubleshoot the uninstaller?
    Thanks!

  • So my 8core 2007 'FutureProof' Mac Pro won't run Mountain Lion - any work arounds?

Can it really be true that it's the end of the OS upgrading line for my 2007 MacPro?
Surely someone out there knows a way to get around this? After holding out for Mountain Lion
while switching from MobileMe to iCould in the 'knowledge' that it wasn't necessary to get Lion first, I thought I
could survive a few weeks!... Just to be disappointed!?! Please say it isn't so!...

If you google you will find a step by guide. It's not the easiest process in the world but seems doable. Good luck

  • My imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick

my imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it, it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick does that mean i will nevver be able to access word documents stored on my desktop? or do the word docs automatically convert to pages or what? i am so confused. would i be better off just sticking with mountain lion and send the maverick install to the trash? hoping someone will be able to answer my question though i am afraid the response is likely to be just stick with mountain lion so you can keep using word. i had been looking forward to maverick but it seems pretty drastic to not have access to microsoft word anymore by switching to maverick. hope someone has an answer so i can have the best of both worlds so to speak!

thanks for your response Csound1 on the peninsula ... if i go ahead and install maverick and then download LibreOffice or OpenOffice will i then be able to access old microsoft word saved documents on my deskstop through those two free alternatives? i am not that knowledgeable about these things so i am not sure if you are saying i will just be able to use libreoffice or openoffice for creating new documents or whether i can access the saved microsoft docs? are they transferred to OO or LO or what and if editing of the old word docs is needed can i do that through the OO and LO programs or apps (see i am not even sure if i am using the correct vocabulary!) hope you can answer this as quick as the first question, so i can decide to stick with mountain lion and trash the maverick install or proceed with maverick install and hoppe that my microsoft word docs are still accessible through OO or LO or adding to myquestion will pages on maverick be able to open the old word documents? thanks again!

    HI,
If iChat is Open and your think Accounts/Screen Names are logged in then go to the Window Menu
This should list the accounts that are logged in with various keystrokes ( Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and a Number) shown next to them.
Using these should get the Buddy list "back".
It is possible to Hide the Buddy list and then Quit iChat.
iChat will then "remember" where the windows were eve if this was Hidden.
Can you confirm that after reinstalling or restoring from Time Machine with possibly an Earlier Version you have Downloaded the COMBO version of OS X 10.6.8 and "run the COMBO" (Installed it - again) to update iChat ?
It is possible the text chat Window is also Hidden on double clicking a Buddy.
The easiest way for this to happen is to use a second Display and drag some windows to the second Display.
iChat "remembers" where you last had Outgoing Chats so Audio and Video windows will be where you left them as will Text Chats.
Incoming Chat Invites are normally in set places unless there is a chat already open to that Buddy.
With  Windowing issue like this is sometimes pays to delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself  (on it's own) and restart iChat  (this plist holds the window positions amongst other things)

  • I'm not buying Lion because it won't run Quicken

This is one of those frustrating OS conversion problems.
Quicken 2007 won't run on OS X Lion.  Intuit does not seem to have anything in the works to make Quicken work in the new OS.
The dilemma is that Mac users EVENTUALLY will have to convert to Lion and its successors because other mission-critical apps we use will eventually not run in OS X 10.6.x.  For Quicken users, the options seem to be :
    1. Stay on OS X 10.6.x forever, but note the caution above about this not being a reasonable long-term solution.
    2. Convert to Quicken Essentials.  This won't work for me because Essentials is missing features of Quicken I consider "essential", e.g., handling securities transactions and portfolios.
    3. Convert to one of Quicken's competitors such as iBank.  I am testing iBank now.  It successfully imported my large Quicken data file which I had exported as a  .qif file from Quicken.  I'm now auditing the results and they are more reasonable than I had expected.  For example, the securities positions can be reconciled back to Quicken.  There are issues I have not yet figured out.  Such as how to capture years of bank reconciliation data for checking accounts.
But converting all the years of data and checking it all is going to take a lot of time.
Anyone have anymore info on this issue?
    Thanks,
    Rich

I even pulled the dmg file into the Logic Studio folder in my applications directory and it still does not recognize it.  What do I do now?

    Niel:  Thanks.
For others benefit, here is what happened.
I had installed Logic Studio 9.1 some time ago.......not knowing what all the programs were nor what they did, I created a "Logic Studio" subfolder in my applications folder and put all Logic Studio programs into it so I'd know where they were and could review each at my leisure over time.
My assumption now is that when the updater looks for the Logic Pro program, it looks only in the applications folder.  It seems lame that it would not also look in the subfolders of the applications folder, but that apparently IS the way it works.  Because my Logic Pro program was located in the "Logic Studio" subfolder, the updater just didn't see it..hence the error message I received when I tried to update.
Solution:  I moved all the Logic Studio programs out of the subfolder and now they reside in the applications folder. Ran the 9.1.5 updater and it worked like a charm.

Precisely why it's not an iPad, and why it doesn't cost very much.  An Apple rep would tell you how to connect an iPad to every computer.

  • FCE 2.0.3 won't run on PowerPC G5 Quad

    Hello,
I know there are a few threads about this subject, but my copy of FCE 2.0.3 won't run on G5 Quad. I get the same error messages (AGP card needed, G4 needed) and by editing the info.plist file I am able to get rid of the 'AGP card needed' message, but the 'G4 needed' is very stubborn. Changing G4 to G5 in the info.plist file does not solve this problem. So the suggested solutions don't seem to work now.
Has someone else (maybe Apple, through an update...) a solution?
    Peter

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I suspect some people may be saving the .plist incorrectly. I don't know whether you are but just in case I have copied this from one of the other threads. You of course will have to alter the "G4" as well:-
You just open the .plist with TextEdit etc.
Then do what is detailed below and nothing more:-
When you have changed the letters AGP to PCI you simply close the window by clicking on the red button (top left).
A drop-down window will appear asking if you want to save the changes.
Click "Save" - the window disappears and the job is done.
    Ian.
PS. I have just remembered that someone in those threads actually said that editing .plists in OS 10.4 was difficult or even impossible. I don't know how true that is . Good Luck!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.
