PowerPivot Gallery in Windowless mode?

Hi there,
We are currently developing an application using Sharepoint 2013, that utilises the PowerPivot Gallery. A problem we are experiencing is that on the Gallery.aspx page the gallery web part is laying over one of the drop down admin menus
on the Sharepoint site (see image)
One of our developers has suggested this could be associated to using windowless mode? My question is are there any configurable parameters to use on the powerpivot gallery web part to set its layout or set windowless mode?

I have the same problem. Some solution?

  • PowerPivot Gallery Creation Error - File Not Found

    I keep getting the following error messages below in the logs when I try to create a PowerPivot Gallery.  All solutions have been installed and deployed and I've activated the feature in my site collection.  I've tried retracting and redeploying
    the "powerpivotfarm14solution.wsp", "powerpivotfarmsolution.wsp", and "powerpivotwebapplicationsolution.wsp" without any luck as well.  The errors below all reference a "schema.xml" file that does exist in the path
    mentioned.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi ,
    Did your environment has multiple SharePoint 2013 servers?
    Have you re-installed and re-configured the PowerPivot for SharePoint Add-in on all your SharePoint servers?

  • PowerPivot Gallery "No Items to Show We can't open this workbook."

    I am setting up a SP 2013 (Enterprise) install, and created a PowerPivot Site Site Collection. Everything seems to be working - I upload one Excel file to the PowerPivot Gallery, and that is fine. It renders the display images correctly. But then if I try
    to open the Excel file, I get the error:
    No Items to Show
    We can't open this workbook. It's set to show only certain named items, but they aren't in the workbook.
    You might want to contact the author for more information.
    I tried to "Open & Repair" the .xlsx file in Excel 2013 on my desktop, and then re-upload, but that did not fix things. I have no problem with other Excel files I've tried. Any suggestions here?

    Hi cgtyoder,
    Please create another simple Excle for testing, see if the issue only haapen to this particular Excel file, then check if there are some mis-configurationins in the Excel file or SharPoint gallery side, e.g. if each Named Item is
    correct and existing.

  • Problem with IE8 popup blocker and Windowless mode

    My team is having popup blocker issue, which is crippling our system where a large range of users are now complaining that their links or buttons will not open in IE7 or IE8 and results in the pop-up blocker message.
    Our Flash application's embed code needed wmode set to windowless ('opaque' or 'transparent') since we need to place floating HTML objects over the Flash application. But all links (within static text content) with target set to '_blank' or a custom name and also all navigateToURL() methods with the same target values are now resulting in IE pop-up blocker message once the window mode was changed to 'opaque' (same result also with 'transparent').
    We have a AS3 work around for the navigateToURL() method but no solutions for 100s of pages of simple HTML content contributed by users that have links as well as our own Flash static-text content with links.
    Here is a simple page created to demonstrate the issue - http://clients.projectmiso.net/photobiz/custom_lightbox/Test_File.html
    And the ActionScript 3 code -
    var clickFunction = function(){
        var targetURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.yahoo.com");
        navigateToURL(targetURL, '_blank');
    btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickFunction);

    Hi!
    One thing you could try is to use MOUSE_UP instead of CLICK
    ( tip-source : http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=176795 )
    This example uses clickTag parameter (through flashvars) instead of a hardcoded URL inside the flashfile though,
    but I'm sure you get the point:
    clickBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, function(event: MouseEvent): void {
    var sURL: String;
    if ((sURL = root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTag)) {
    navigateToURL(new URLRequest(sURL), "_blank");
    clickBtn.buttonMode = true;
    clickBtn.useHandCursor = true;
    Or you might want to have a look at this workaround :

  • Hide Ribbon in PowerPivot Gallery

    All,
    SP 2010+Excel 2010
    In a Power Pivot Gallery, can the ribbon be hidden so that a spread sheet can't be opened from the web browser? I was expecting to see it under library settings etc. The data is automatically refreshed overnight.
    Thanks
    W

    Chuck:
    Unfortunately, you will have to password protect the family gallery. The other option would to use iWeb for the family and galleries for work folks, or vise versa.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can't save power pivot report back to power pivot gallery...file is read only

    Hi eb
    I have developed an excel pivot report in a power pivot gallery (all in 2013).
    Next time i open that report from the power pivot gallery and attempt to save it again to the gallery
    I am blocked with a msg: we cant save http://........./powerpivot gallery/myPwerPvt.xslx  file is read only.
    To keep your changes you'll need to save the woorkbook with a new name or different location.
    Please help!
    TIA
    Rea

    Hi Rea,
    When you try to edit the PowerPivot workbook, are you open it as read-only mode? Please see the screenshot below:
    The "Read Only" mode will not be able to save any changes to the workbook you are loading.
    In addition, is it work for you while you save the PowerPivot workbook with a new name?

  • Topology question for PowerPivot for SharePoint engine

    We currently have a SP2013 farm with two web front end servers, two application servers and a SQL 2012SP1 SQL Cluster.  We plan to expand the farm with all BI functionalities by adding another application server to SP2013 farm, which will be dedicated
    to all BI services, such as Excel service, PowerPivot, SSRS integrated mode, PerformancePoint, etc. and two Database servers (belong to DBA team): one of which will be used for Data Warehouse, another one for SSAS instances, including Multidemensional Cube
    instance, Tabular mode instance. My question is where is the best place for PowerPivot for SharePoint engine.
    1. On the server that holds all SSAS engine (DBA team's server)
    2. On the new dedicated SharePoint BI application server
    Theoratically, PowerPivot for SharePoint engine is only used by SharePoint, so it is better not mixed with those SSAS instance that needs DBA to assign permission. Of couse it'd be better if we can have a dedicated server for PowerPivot engine,
    but we don't. If it is mixed with MD Cube engine and Tabular Mode engine, it might compete resource more than put it on dedicated SharePoint BI application server. In addition, will separating PowerPivot service application with its engine cause more network
    traffic and affect performance. Will it be better if we just put it on SP2013 dedicated BI Application server?
    Like to hear your opinion.
    Ming

    Here's a way that I've seen implemented to switch sources amongst workbooks:
    Create a "master file" Excel workbook that contains only the PowerPivot data model, and a blank Excel worksheet.  Upload this to SharePoint and create a BISM connection in the PowerPivot Gallery that points at this workbook url.  Here's a link
    describing a BISM connection:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg471575.aspx
    If SharePoint is configured correctly, you can click on the icon for an Excel workbook from the BISM connection in the gallery.  This will open a thin client Excel workbook that has a data connection to the BISM.
    Develop your reports in the thin client Excel workbooks.  The reports will be smaller files since the entire data model is not in them.  Also, all reports will be pointing to the same data model hosted on SharePoint (via the BISM connection) to
    keep things maintainable.
    Treat the "master file" Excel workbook containing the PowerPivot data model in the same way that you would treat an OLAP cube.  Keep Dev, UAT, and Prod versions in each environment.
    When migrating a new report from Dev to UAT, just modify the data connection to point at the UAT BISM instead of the Dev BISM.
    Long term, if a decision is made to make the solution an SSAS Tabular instance, the BISM connection can be "re-pointed" at the SSAS instance and the reports will still work.  In this way, your reports can have Dev/UAT/Prod environments, the ability
    to promote the solution to SSAS, and there should not be a need for rework if the design of the underlying model is maintained.

  • Upgrading PowerPivot for Sharepoint to Tabular. Will Sharepoint functionality remain?

    Hello everyone I am planning on upgrading our current PowerPivot for Sharepoint instance of AS to a Tabular instance.  Currently we have the instance linked to our Sharepoint 2013 server allowing us to publish PowerPivot models to the PowerPivot gallery
    in Sharepoint.  If we upgrade the instance to a full tabular model will the PowerPivot Gallery in Sharepoint still function and will we still be able to publish models as we can with the current instance?

    The Gallery will work with Tabular mode Analysis Services. You can create .bism files in the gallery and people can create PowerView models just like the would from a Sharepoint instance.
    However the publishing method is completely different. Tabular models are created and deployed from SSDT (SQL Server Developer Tools). You can't deploy from Excel to a Tabular mode server.

  • Help! Video overlaps Gallery Pictures.

    How do I fix this?

    Gallery displays fine over the top of the video in FF so I do not think z-index is the issue. If it was just a z-index issue, both FF and IE would display the same.
    I thinks it's the "wmode" of the Flash player... as mentioned by 3DeeGee.
    To test this theory for yourself, open the page in IE and then turn off the Flash pluggin.
    From the main browser menu... Tools/Manage Add-ons/ Shockwave Flash Object/ disable.(Now Flash is turned off).
    Now refresh the page... the <div> holding the video player displays just fine UNDER the photos. So without altering the z-index, you can get the video container to display under the images. But putting a Flash player in the container without also setting one of the param to opaque or transparent, layers the Flash player above the actual Web page.
    From an old article... there are more wmodes now.
    Window Mode (wmode) - What's It For?
    Here are three window modes.
    Window
    Opaque
    Transparent
    By default, the Flash Player gets its own hWnd in Windows. This means that the Flash movie actually exists in a display instance within Windows that lives above the core browser display window. So though it appears to be in the browser window, technically, it isn't. It is most efficient for Flash to draw this way and this is the fastest, most efficient rendering mode. However, it is drawing independently of the browser's HTML rendering surface. This is why this default mode (which is equivalent to wmode="window") doesn't allow proper compositing with DHTML layers. This is why your JavaScripted drop-down menus will drop behind your Flash movie.
    In windowless modes (like opaque), Flash Player doesn't have a hWnd. This means that the browser tells the Flash Player when and where to draw onto the browser's own rendering surface. The Flash movie is no longer being rendered on a higher level if you will. It's right there in the page with the rest of the page elements. The Flash buffer is simply drawn into whatever rectangle the browser says, with any Flash stage space not occupied by objects receiving the movie's background color.
    and just to clarify... nothing happens to the z-index of an element when it is given a declared position. In fact, you MUST give an element a declared position before you can give it a z-index.... giving an element a z-index alone doesn't work.
    Best wishes,
    Adninjastrator

  • PowerPivot refresh error with data feed from sharepoint list with empty exception information

    Hi,
    My Powpivot refreshing error seems to be different from what others already experienced.
    Scenario:
    Constructed an external data source in the format of Http://<server_IP>/sites/<mysitecollection>/_vti_bin/listdata.svc
    selected one table with some of the needed columns in the next step
    Create calculate colums etc.
    Create pivot tables etc.
    All worked well offline
    Upload the workbook into PowerPivot Gallery
    Reference it from a page through Excel Web Service webpart allowing manual refresh
    The refresh always reports failure with the named external data source
    I opend the log file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS and located the following error messages:
    ASPPHOST::ShowEngineError: Out of line object 'DataSource', referring to ID(s) 'f8939b694cae', has been specified but has not been used。The following exception occurred while the managed IDbCommand interface was being used: .
    Please note in the above message, NO detailed exception message was given. In other words,
    the exception information is empty.
    I checked as many things as I possibly could includin the security accounts etc. All seem to be right. But this empty exception got me stuck here.
    What could possibly go wrong? Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • PowerPivot data model as Source on Cloud

    Hi All,
    We have an excel workbook with a heavy powerpivot model. Can we use any Cloud services to segregate the powerpivot model and use it as a data source?
    We have already accessed the PowerPivot Gallery on Sharepoint(On-Premise) and Tabular Cube solutions but both of them are On-Premise solutions and since we need a Cloud based solution; we have rejected both of them.
    Also, regarding Cloud solution(if there's any), will it answer the following problem statements:-
    Will it be possible to drive a light weight excel report by Powerpivot data model?
    On Premise database based report refresh (using gateway)?
    PowerPivot /Calculated Measures – will they be visible through data model?
    Regards,
    Amit

    This is not currently possible, but I understand that it is in the works.

  • Powerpivot refresh failing on Sharepoint ONLY - Works in Excel

    Hi all,
    I'm experiencing a very frustrating issue. I have a powerpivot workbook that has refreshes fine in the Excel application, however when I put the workbook in the Powerpivot Gallery on Sharepoint, the refresh fails with an error 'Call To Excel Services Returned
    an Error'.
    Weirdly, the time it takes the connection being refreshed to fail is 7 minutes 30 seconds at all times (450 seconds)
    I did some digging and started looking at the ULS logs, and found nothing. I checked the ServerTimeout property in the PowerPivot Analysis Services server via SSMS and saw that it was set to 3600.
    So, I ran a SQL Profiler during the refresh, and found the following;
    EventClass - Query Begin
    EventSubClass - 0 - MDXQuery
    TextData - REFRESH CUBE [Model]
    Request Properties -
    <PropertyList xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-analysis" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"><Catalog>Actuarials_e9696b57ffba475fb5b0a141c8277168_ab35031e203d40e098de409b1b255794_SSPM</Catalog><Timeout>410</Timeout><Content>SchemaData</Content><Format>Tabular</Format><DbpropMsmdFlattened2>false</DbpropMsmdFlattened2><Dialect>MDX</Dialect><MdxMissingMemberMode>Error</MdxMissingMemberMode><DbpropMsmdOptimizeResponse>7</DbpropMsmdOptimizeResponse><DbpropMsmdActivityID>0F1244C2-C215-4E0C-A786-7A8DA962598A</DbpropMsmdActivityID><DbpropMsmdRequestID>7579A80F-D1E0-4656-9A02-3BB4034A29F4</DbpropMsmdRequestID><LocaleIdentifier>1033</LocaleIdentifier><DbpropMsmdMDXCompatibility>1</DbpropMsmdMDXCompatibility><DbpropMsmdSubqueries>2</DbpropMsmdSubqueries></PropertyList>
    As you can see, the Timeout property is set to 410! I have no idea where this number came from and it's very likely that that is what's causing the failure.
    The fact that it works in Excel all the time shows that this is a Sharepoint issue. I'd appreciate any help on this whatsoever!
    Thanks!

  • Problem connecting PowerPivot's (Office 2013) Data Model deployed on SharePoint 2013 to data source.

    Hello:
    Our configurations is as follow :  SharePoint 2013 is on Server A;  SQL Server Analysis server (SQL 2014) is on DB Server B;
    SharePoint databases (sp_ ...) and our Data Mart (SQL 2014) are on server B. All servers runs Windows 2012 OS.
    On my desktop I built a simple Excel 2013 workbook with PowerPivot Data Model that imported several tables from our Data Mart (server B above). Then created a Power View report. Locally everything works fine.
    But when I uploaded this workbook to our SharePoint PowerPivot gallery and was trying to refresh data, I got the connection error: It’s very long but the ErrorCode is “rsCannotRetriveModel”. The end of the error message is:
    'TemporaryDataSource'.</Message><MoreInformation><Source>Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPClient</Source>
    <Message>Call to Excel Services returned an error.</Message>
    <MoreInformation><Source></Source><Message>We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook.

    Our Excel Services on the SharePoint work fine and refresh data on different excel workbooks (with no Data Model) just fine.  We are using an unattended account for Excel Services to connect from SharePoint server to our databases. Found a few references
    on the topic, tried them but with no luck.
    Please advise!

    Jeff Gorvits

    Hi Jeff,
    Firstly, I need to confirm whether you are refreshing Data connection in browser, since Data Refresh is not supported in Office Web Apps. Please refer more information in this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/excel_services__powerpivot_for_sharepoint_support_blog/archive/2013/01/31/powerpivot-for-sharepoint-browser-refresh-fails-data-refresh-not-supported-in-office-web-apps.aspx
    From the error "Call to Excel Services returned an error", please verify the location of the
    data source, for example an Excel workbook, is registered as a trusted location with Excel Services:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219699(v=office.15).aspx
    Since you are using unattended account for Excel Services to connect from SP to databases, I wonder if the issue occurs to unattended referesh, if so, please refer to:

  • Powerpivot Report 2010 - OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00

    0
    I have report already developed by someone in powerpivot 2010 and deployed to sharepoint in powerpivot gallery library. The data source for this report is SQL Server 2008 r2. I have set the refresh options in sharepoint to run after business hours during
    week end. When I check the refresh history it shows this error message "OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00. An error occurred while processing the 'xxx' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the
    transaction failed..
    I have tried to run the "Also refresh as soon as possible " just to check but same error message is shown.
    This is the detailed error message details:
    03/02/2014 21:06:55 03/02/2014 22:08:15 01:01:20 Failed
    OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00. An error occurred while processing the 'xxx' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed
    Could anyone guide me on this issue? Truly appreciate your help in advance.

    Hi asritha,
    I would suggest you take a look at the following articles regarding how to configure PowerPivot data refresh in SharePoint Server:

  • Powerpivot 2012 on Excel 2010 - External Data connections not saving passwords, having to re-enter password EVERYTIME I refresh data

    Hey Guys,
    Using Excel 2010 with latest version of Powerpivot 2012 available 11.1.3129.0
    For my SQL Server Data connections in Powerpivot I DO NOT have any issue, when clicking refresh it never asks me to enter a password and uses my Windows AD info.
    However, for my plethora of other external data connections (Informix, Oracle, Etc...) that I would like to have fluid use within Powerpivot, big problems.
    Lets start with Oracle. Below is a screenshot of my connection tab within Powerpivot.
    So as you can see, all the details are entered and Allow Saving Password is selected. Now I will close out of Powerpivot and Excel completely and re-open. I will navigate to the Powerpivot tab
    and select Powerpivot Window. And then will select to "Refresh All" and am quickly prompted with the "Data Source Credentials" window to re-enter my data source password, again.
    What I have already tried. The above method for starters in which I use a connection string under Table Import Wizard --> Others (OLEDB/ODBC)... I found it the least annoying route, although
    still have to re-enter password everytime, which is what I hope this forum can help with.
    I also have tried doing a direct Oracle connection in Table Import Wizard but also does not eliminate my #1 problem.
    I have also created an ODC file to try and use that with stored credentials within the file, also still asks for password each and everytime.
    The same thing happens with my other data connections to Informix and DB2. So any help and/or suggestions anyone has would be great. I also cant upload these powerpivots to our powerpivot gallery
    on SharePoint 2010, I have a sneaking suspicion it is due to the version of powerpivot I am currently using.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
    My company is not using Excel 2013, only 2010. So that is what I have to work with. From what I have read this is a huge hole in the Powerpivot 2012 framework and is extremely frustrating. This seems so basic and simple and like something everyone using
    this product would use, and yet it still doesnt work.
    Great feedback. Connect is the right place for this feedback on 2010 as well. Thanks!
