PowerPivot/PowerQuery: join xl with txt before loading?

Question

Hi, can one (with either powerPivot or powerQuery) combine (horizontally i.e. with a join) tables from two
different kinds of sources e.g. 1. text file 2. Excel sheet, joined or filtered on a field(s)
 before the data is loaded onto the workbook as a result? Or can it be the same source only i.e. only two text files. PowerPivot can do this, but the tables must already be loaded into PowerPivot
as a whole. So for large files it will draw resources.

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to combine the specifies field with 2 data source, but not import the full data source. If it is right, we'd better to split the process:
First, import and filter data:
Excel data source: We could filter/ choose the specifies field directly with importing wizard.
Text data source: We need to add the column separator like "comma" in data source, then we could filter like Excel data source.
