PowerPivot V2 DrillThrough(Show Detail) amounts as text

I use PowerPivot V2 for Excel 2010 in Windows 7. I create a Pivot Table from a simple Excel table by using PowerPivot. When I double-click any given subtotal or grand total on a Pivot Table, the new sheet is inserted to show the detail of subtotal/grand
total. (Drill-through/Drill-down/Show Detail function). It is working and the list of detail is correct.
However, the cell format of amounts is text format. I can not change it to number format no matter how I tried. I change the cell format to number on the inserted sheet, I change the cell format of original database Excel table to number before
importing PowerPivot...none of those works. No matter how I try, the drill-through numbers stay as text.
As a good practice, If you drill-through any given subtotal/grand total, you would like to highlight the amount cells to see the detail total equals to the sub/grand total. If the detail numbers are in text format, I can not visually verify if detail
total really equals to the original sub/grand total. When I highlight detail amount cells, all I see is the cell count. But Cell count can not verify total of detailed cells of amounts.
Do you have any solution to this? Did I do something wrong?

I don't think there is an easy solution for this like you might think.
One way I work around this, however, is to quickly convert the entire column to a Number format.
Try this after executing a Drillthrough:
Select the column header for the column you would like to sum (so that the entire column is selected)
Click the Data tab and click 'Text to Columns' in the "Data Tools "section
Accept the defaults ("Delimited", "Tab", "General") and then click "Finish"
Your column should now be formatted as numbers and leave you with the ability to see a column sum in the bottom right of your worksheet (assuming your column is still highlighted) or to use a SUM function at the bottom of the column

Anyway, it seems the only solution is to Delimited it. I know it can technically work but I am so unhappy about Microsoft's idea of deciding to present numbers(I'd say "Amount" because 99% of time is it) as TEXT. What kind of mind allow numbers
as text...I am sorry I have no idea. The users who would use PowerPivot should be extremely "Number-oriented". I think those people who would like to dare to use PowerPivot is dicing, slicing, subtotaling, re-organizing numbers all day long. "Drill-Down"
is a part of our daily operation because again, it all about "Numbers". Then it is extremely frustrating to have the "TEXT" numbers. I wish this would change in the future, but I guess I have no luck with having PowerPivot for Excel 2013 because
there' no free add-on PowerPivot for Excel 2013...
Yes, I truly appreciate PowerPivot to the extent that I just can not comprehend that this type of almost perfect Add-on has such a gross flaw....

I created a new workbook Excel 2010, Used PowerPivot to import 5 tables.
Relationships setup and can now analyze my information, using slicers etc. etc.
HOWEVER
When I double click on a cell in the PivotTable I receive the following exception:
Show Details cannot be executed when multiple items are selected in a report filter field or in a slicer. Select a single item for each field in the report filter area and for each slicer connected to this PivotTable before performing a drillthrough.
So I thought ok, let's remove all specific filters and try again, only to be stumped by the following exception:
Show Details cannot be completed on a calculated cell.
Surely this should work??? It is very simple relationships between 5 table, why can i not view a drilldown report of the 2 records which are counted in this case???????????
I urgently need a solution to this, PowerPivot experts PLEASE ADVISE.

Ouch! After presenting PowerPivot Add-In for Excel to the business, they asked me to follow up on this specific topic.
Next I will be presenting PowerPivot Gallery etc. in SharePoint 2010.
Hopefully they do not proceed with a QLikView or SAP Business Explorer etc. Purchase instead of the SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition purchase :(

I'm the B.I Project Lead (Technical) and would like to stay with Microsoft, we are already a rather large organization and all in-house development resides with Visual Studio 2008 / 2010, MVC, C#, WCF, LINQ, ADO.NET Entity Framework, SQL 2008.
I'd hate to see another proprietary software coming in specifically for B.I.
PLEASE Microsoft, this is an appeal - at least find some work-around - EVEN if you could guide me to a quick document with regard to configuring Drill-Throughs properly with SQL Server ANALYSIS Services, then I could at least try and convince the business
that were Drill-Through is seriously required I can demo that using SSAS.
Will it work via PowerPivot though?
Or would the workbook have to retrieve information straight from SSAS for the DrillThrough Functionality?

Hi Vikas,
The reason behind the error message requires the knowledge on what happens at the backend. When you perform a drill-through action, a query is sent to Analysis Services. This query is expressed in a query language called Multi-Dimensional Expression (MDX).
Since the MDX language doesnot support drill-through command against a set (collection of tuples) an error is persisted.
For now, there is no workaround as it is a limitation of the underlying language that is generating the query.
When multiple items are selected you lose the ability to drill-down on individual metrics. To resolve you must either:
1. Select a single Item.
2. Select all items.

How to show details from web part as pop up window

I designed few web pages in SharePoint Designer 2010 and trying to customize it. I have a XSLTListView web part that is displaying filtered data from the external SQL database. When user choses the item from this list, I need it to show in the new pop
up window. I can't seem to find the way to do it. Saw multiple references to use SP.UI.ModalDialog.ShowPopupDialog(url), but I don't know how and where to incorporate it, since there is no place in the page where it actually specifies that url
of the page that I need to show as pop up.
Below there is a code for the XsltListWebPart, where I'm hoping I could make changes to make it pop up (it seems that this is the part that is calling the display details form). The form that I'd like to pop up is DispForm.aspx

Importing a large amount of text into InDesign (Newbie question!)

Hello all,
I am new to InDesign and would really appreciate some tips/advice on how best to transfer a large amount of text from Microsoft Word into an InDesign document. I have been tasked with creating a very simple pocket sized book, the content of which will be a series of business Acronyms (700+) and their defintions (just imagine a very simple dictionary). As you can imagine there is a lot of text in the Microsoft Word document so any advice on how to transfer it all as quickly as possible would be really helpful. Or, as the case may be, would it be simpler to just use another programme?
Can you paste/import all - or large chunks of - a word document in one go? If I format a master page will Adobe InDesign automatically paste the text into the required number of pages? Or do i have to do it page by page from a clipboard?
Obviously I am not expecting InDesign to format the text perfectly on each page, I just want to dump it all in one go and then go back and tidy it all up.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

File > Place.... and navigate to the Word file. Show Import Options to allow you to preserve the Word Formatting, or dump it, or map styles to ne styles in your ID document.
If you have a text frame on your master page, put the loaded cursor over the frame area on your document page and watch for the cursor to change so it is surrounded by parentheses, then hold the Shift key and click. If you don't have a master frame (and most experienced users will tell you that more than 90% of the time a master text frame is more hindrence than help if you set your margins correctly), hold the Shift key and click where you want the top of the first column to start.
In both cases, ID will add pages as required to place the entire document and thread the text through all the frames. If using master frames, they will be linked and overrridden onto the document page automatically, if not, your first frame will start where you click and extend down to the bottom margin and succeeding frames will fill the column guides (hence mention of setting your margins correctly).
ID is a professional program and you really need to spend some time learning how it works. One good place to start is the Help files. Another is Sandee Cohen's Visual QuickStart Guide to InDesign. If you prefer video training, Lynda.com has good content.

You can get the handle to the Detail column by using the following:
UINode d = outerTable.getDetail();
However, as per OAF developer guide, it is not possible to change the label for the detail column. The devloper guide has the following:
"In accordance with BLAF guidelines, the Detail column header text for the detail disclosure column and the Show/Hide link texts within the cells of the detail disclosure column can not be modified."

MDX Query to show the latest product text again historical facts (Type 2 dimenion linking on Surrogate key and also Natural Key)

I need to write a MDX query to show the latest product text again historical facts or a chosen product text in time. I can write this query in TSQL, but new to MDX.
The way I do it in TSQL is joining two queries together on the Natural Key as opposed to the surrogate key.
Can this be done in MDX. I know I could write two separate MDX queries, one which get the product text I wan and the other to get the measure with the actual product text and Natural Key, and use a lookup function in ssrs to show the two result sets I the
same tablix by looking up the Natural Keys. But this should be able to be done in one query shouldn't it.
In the dsv the fact knows to join to the dimension using the surrogate key.

According to your description, you want to write a query to show the latest product text, right?
In MDX, we can use LastNonEmpty function to return the lastest member winth a dimension. LastNonEmpty is an aggregation function available in the Enterprise version of SQL Server. However, you can create your own with a little bit of recursive MDX. Here
is a sample query for you reference.

Programatically switching show detail item

I have 2 show detail items in af:paneltab
in first show detail item i have link on click of the link i need to switch to the second show detail item.
so i wrote by function and binded it to actionevent of the command link as below

No don't restore your iphone. I've done that several times & it has never worked. -I still have deleted contacts in my iphone texts. *However if you do restore it you will not lose all your data, pics, text messages etc if you backup in iCloud. It restores back to original phone. Very nice :). Anyhowwww....
I JUST figured it out!! :))). Remove the contact from recents.
Start a text. You should see the deleted contact. All the way to the right of the name is a symbol. The symbol is a circle with "i" in the middle. Click that symbol then in red lettering click "remove from recents".

IPhone not showing contacts names in text messaging after sync AND reset

Three days ago, I bought the iPhone 4S as an updgrade from the 3GS. I also transferred my wireless service plan from AT&T to Verizon. Since doing that, very strange things are happening. For example, my contacts appeared to transfer without a problem, but whenever I attempt a call to a number that does not have a "1" stored in front of it, it tells me that I am attempting a long-distance or international call and the call won't go thru unless I place a 1 in front of the number and store it that way. Also, whenever I send text messages and someone replies, their message comes back to my phone under the phone number only and not the name that is stored in my contacts. This happens even when the contact sends a direct message to me that is not a reply. (Imagine all the "Merry Christmas" messages I received yesterday that I have no idea who they were from, except the 5 out of 300 contacts whose numbers I have memorized!!) I have gone to the Apple Store and the "Genius" there reset my phone, which temporarily fixed the problem, but now it is back. I did a soft reset, now it randomly selects which names will show up in my text message window. (For example, yesterday, the name "Jane" shows a message that says "Merry Christmas", but after the reset, only Jane's number shows up in the text screen with the same message from yesterday.)
Does anyone know what in the world is going on?? This is Very Annoying! I'm tempted to go back to AT&T, as I am being told that the iphone technology, even for 4S, is not as compatible on Verizon as it is with AT&T. Please help!

Not sure about the random contact name problem. I suspect a bad database. Use iTunes to delete and replace your contacts with a good list. If that doesn't work, do a 100% software reset and don't restore a backup, setup as a new device. Finally, if that fails go back to the apple store. The issue is not software fixable and the unit should be replaced.
The other issue with 1 dialing required... are you roaming? Disable wifi, should say Verizon 3G in the status bar.
When you are off your home area cell network, you are not dealing with Verizon directly.
Edit: your last question about using a Verizon 4S on AT&T's network. You are correct, out of the box the Verizon 4S is locked to only work on Verizon's network. The AT&T 4S and Sprint 4S have the same locks. You can purchase an unlocked iPhone directly from apple. I've also heard of people convincing Sprint customer service to unlock their phones for use out of the country,

Why each time I try to save my day's work,version WITH mark-ups and version w/o, does it say "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to access this? What is clipboard and how can I just save my work in its proper file?

I don't get this clipboard thing! I have created two files, one for the MS with mark-ups, and one for the unmarred version, each living in their own spot in my "house." It seems to be merging the two versions and I have to go in and re-paste and then it always says "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to be able to access this?" and it prompts me to say no but I am afraid I'll lose my day's work so I just tap cancel. I highlight the day's revision and select "copy" to paste into the unmarked doc. before I save on the marked up or working doc. It is when I try to close that one that the clipboard issue pops up. What can you tell be about saving doc. in two places and how to NOT get it on clipboard? Thanks! I am not super computer savvy so layperson's language much appreciated!

Are you using Microsoft word? Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users. I have seen this message from Microsoft word. It's annoying.

When you copy information via edit > copy, command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information. Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes. command + s does a save.

Downloads dragged and dropped from Firefox download window into Outlook e-mail show as file location text.

I have a user who normally can drag files from Firefox's Download window into an e-mail in Outlook and it creates an attachment of that file in the e-mail. However, lately, the dragged .pdf or whatever file only shows up as a text file location like:
\\file:%Downloads%\randomfile.pdf
It's not a link either, it's just the text.
I've tried doing a repair of Outlook.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 19.
I've tested dragging items from the desktop to the e-mail and it works fine.
I can't drag and drop from the Downloads window to the desktop.
I just wanted to add this user is using Windows XP Pro.

I can confirm that this is an issue with the newest release of Firefox. I just upgraded my Firefox, which was previously 18.02 to 19.0 and now I'm getting the same error. It's a bug.
