Powerpoinnt to .ai, font scrambled characters issue

Mac OS 10.8.4
AI CS5 15.02
Powerpoint 2008 12.3.6
The client designed boards in powerpoint to be output 9ft tall. Trying to convert to illustrator to get vector type and will have to go with what we can for images. Unfortunately everything I try give me type that looks like this (unicode problem I guess)
Have tried these methods to convert to .ai.
copy in powerpoint >> paste in Illustrator
.ppt >> eps (postscript 2 & 3)
.ppt >> print to .ps
.ppt to .pdf >> .ai
ppt to .pdf >> open in acrobat >> reduce file size/saveas/ optimized >> .pdf >> .ai
the .pdf looks good in acrobat, once I open in illustrator characters are as per screenshot. They are using various weights of Calibri.
I can get the font outlined by
ppt to .pdf >> open in acrobat > save as .eps
but then can't make their type edits as they come in, unless I go back to powerpoint and start from square 1

The Word versions of Calibri (especially the Calibri (Themebody)) don't translate to the Mac version. Try changing the font in the PP to Arial and then importing into AI. You can then try reapplying the mac version of the Calibri font.

• Adobe Fonts Causing strange Issue

Out of the blue any of my installed Adobe fonts are causing me strange issues. I've even tried removing the fonts and reinstalling. Basically what is happen is when I change the font it changes certain characters to superscripts.
I've tried these same fonts in font managers, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and other software programs and they work perfectly. This just started happening last night when working with another Adobe font.
Did I accidently set something or how should I fix this?
Thanks

Could these be fake fonts? I have only downloaded free fonts from Font.com. I don't remember any of these names and they have only been here since I installed CS4. Plus the free fonts they offer are not Adobe and generally one typeface, and these have many. This is very strange.

• Text box restrict characters issue

I'm relatively new to Flash programming, and I'm having an issue where all of the text boxes will only allow characters 2,3, and 4 to be entered. They have been setup with the .restrict = "0-9 ." to allow all numbers. I even created a test text box, and that has the same issue. Is there something that I am missing that is causing this? I'm using Flash Pro CS6 on a Windows XP machine.

Usually when characters do not appear in a textfield it means the font needs to be embedded in the textfield. If the textfield is on the stage, select it and in the Properties panel click the Embed button and choose the characters/font you wish to use for the textfield.

• Invoke-WebRequest - Double byte characters issue in windows 8.1

I try write a powershell script to download a file from web server but failed. The path have double byte characters.
I could run in Windows server 2012 and 2012 R2 successfully, but fail in Windows 8 & 8.1
Do there any difference below Windows server and client powershell?
Region and setting are same in Windows 2012 & Windows 8
Script as below
Invoke-WebRequest -Uri " http://hostname/m/%E9%...../......./...../xxx.jpg"

Security settings are one possible cause of this.
Since we don't have your URL we cannot reproduce this.
It is "different". Using "difference" had me confused for qa bit. I though you were trying to figure out the difference between two things.
Use:
$wc=New-Object System.Net.WebClient
$ws.DownloadFile($url,'c:\file.jpg')
You will see less issues and it is faster.

• Acrobat SDK 9.1 - custom plugin - Polish Characters issue

Hi,
I hope any of you will be able to help me out as we are having small issue. We are developing a plug-in that will digitally sign only XML prior to posting via webservice. This plug-in is developed for Adobe Reader 9.1 and we are using Adobe Acrobat SDK 9.1 to develop it. This plug-in needs to support Polish characters, so the plug-in will be compiled with _UNICODE directive. We are running into a Polish Character issue where Polish Characters are not being displayed in the plug-in popup. Would you be able to tell us how is the Acrobat SDK dealing with this (as it is using std:string and not any type of wide string format), what type of params will get simple functions (like AVAlertNote).
We are also using the JS bridge to export data from the fdf form (using exportXFAData).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Jan Kropiwnicki

You should be using ASText objects when working with Unicode.

Hi ,

I am getting error messages such as :
1) 400 Bad Request
2) In the XML Payload ......It is showing as Invalid Character found ....
For this I tried ...
1) In the source payload XML I done the chages in the encodding part
encoding part as iso-8859-1instead of utf-8.
2) I have triggered the message from Integration Engine ....then it was successfully processed through SOAP Adapter
3) with special characters...means there is no issue at target end.
4) the issue lies in XI so we have to resolve it.

• Special Characters issue in DEV and QAS

Hi,
I am uploading a file that has special characters (Japanese).
In the DEV system the special character is converted to #. Which the business wants.
In QAS system the special character is not converted and is as it is, which makes the business users difficult to find out if any speical characters are there and they don't want the special character as it is
The file consists millions of record with a possibility of four or five records with special characters
The special characters on keyboards is not an issue.
The programs in DEV and QAS system are same and the file tested is also the same but different results.
Tried in Tcode SNLS to find something but didn't know what and where to look into.
What could be the issue in this? Looks like this is Basis issue but would like to know if anyone can let me know.......
Regards
Sandeep

Hi ,
i want to check ur open dataset statement in the program which is being used here if at all in ur case.
Can you please check the relavant code page in both the D and Q systems and search with the appropriate hexa decimal values(for the special characters ) in both the systems ..
u can use code page by tcode scp ..
ex -> as u say a special char sp1 is having entry in q and code page which is being used (like 4200 )
is not having in d03 .
then if in d03 this page has no entry then it shows as # , since it is showing in q then it has an entry over there. this is my guess..
so if at all the client wants not to see this special char's , u need to remove them from this code page.. and check ..
Cant say if this can solve but u can take this as one more way of dealing with code pages and special chars....

• Special characters issue in output XML - file adapter - SOA 10.1.3.4

Hi,
I use a DB adapter and File adapter to retreive data from database and create output XML file.
For the database record which have special characters (for example ' , <, >), it will just output the same character in XML file, which cause other system to reject this XML file because of those characters.
Anyone have this issue ? How can i resolve that ?
Thanks

Try converting the characters to < and >. This should work. Make sure the stand-alone & character is converted to & amp; (written with space as HTML will convert it back to &).

• Orgchart export to image: special characters issue

Hello,
Using Orgchart Accelerated 2.01.
We have an issue when exporting to image. The issue happens when org unit name or attributes contains some special characters like é or ë (common in French). In the jpg export, these characters are being replaced by some square characters. In the preview and in the application, everything is displaying just fine.
This doesn't happen for ppt export (pdf export still not functionning)
Thanks,
Laurent

HI Laurent,
This is quite unusual. As far as I am aware the OrgChart Accelerated solution only supports English at present. However, you should raise an OSS message via Service Marketplace as I would expect it to export these characters okay.
Many thanks,
Luke

• Arabic Characters Issue

Hi
Following is our environment
DB Version: Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.3.0) 64bit
OS : OEL 5U2
Characterset: AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256
We have an opensource application built on php. CHARSET was defined as AR8MSWIN1256 in the configuration file. Data was inserted using browser based interface. Use access the system using IE 8 since it is web based application. Data comprise of both Arabic and English. It is displayed perfectly fine using browser ie Arabic shows proper Arabic characters and English shows correct English.
Problem started when a requirement came to generate some reports using Oracle Reports 10g. Arabic data show as garbage in the reports. Vendor was asked to provide some solution. They suggested to change the CHARSET to AL32UTF8 in the config file of the application. After making the changes, the new data that is inserted in the database can be seen correctly for both languages regardless of the tool (be it SQLDeveloper or Oracle Reports). The old data, however, shows garbage. Surprisingly when data is extracted using scripts in flat files and then imported in the test database after setting environment variable NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 using @/../filename.sql, it converts it properly. Since data is huge and this is taking way too much time, I was hoping if someone could help me in quickly perform this migration? Already tried CSSCAN/CSALTER and DMU but did not succeed. DMU stopped at 5th stage when it was supposed to issue ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET command.
Currently I am installing database with AL32UTF8 characterset and planning to import the schema in it. Is my approach correct? Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Sergiusz
Firstly I would like to thank you for replying.
Secondly I was able to move further with the DMU (the issue was due to more sessions that I had to kill to allow DMU to proceed with ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET command).
Here is what I have done so far without any luck.
1) Created a test instance with source database characterset ie AR8MSWIN1256 and performed a full import using DataPump (impdp).
2) Used DMU to perform conversion/migration to AL32UTF8. (this step took almost 5 hours).
3) Used SQLDeveloper to verify the results and data still show as garbage.
Thing that worked for me but is way to slow and not reliable.
1) Save data in file (.sql) using Windows XP client or windows 2003 server. Basically I am generating the whole SQL statements for UPDATE eg UPDATE table SET xx)
2) SET NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 on command prompt of Windows XP client and use SQLPLUS to open sql prompt.
3) Use @path\file.sql (that was generated in earlier step) to update records.
4) Verify via SQLDeveloper that arabic shows correctly.
Issue with above approach is since we have millions of records stored in multiple tables, sometimes while generating the file with SQL Statements, the server CPU touch 100% and then freeze. Also file size grow exponentially and to verify how much of the work was done prior to freezing becomes very difficult.
I still have the DB after using the DMU tool intact so if you could think of some other workaround that will be great.
Again, thank you for helping me with this.

• Preview font special characters

There are times I want to type a character that is not show on the keyboard. Is there a way to preview various fonts to see if the character is available?
Thanks
LarryB

Problem is I can't change the keyboard to the font I want. For instance, suppose I need a certain symbol. I would want to change the keyboard to that font and press various keys until I found it. My keyboard stays at US. I must be missing something.
All OS's made now use the Unicode standard, under which all fonts are supposed to have the same characters at the same codepoints. So changing a font will normally not change what is produced by the US keyboard layout. Even if you have installed some non-Unicode fonts that put other stuff where Latin is supposed to be, Keyboard Viewer (and some apps) will not display it. To input characters not available from the US layout, you must switch to another layout via the "flag" menu in the menu bar or use the Character Viewer.

• Font Scrambling in PDF Conversions from Word 2004

Our Imago fonts periodically get scrambled into garbage when using the Adobe 7.0 Pro Distiller to convert documents. We purchased the Imago fonts specifically for use in our business and have used this for a number of years and the problem continues to happen. It appears that it is imbedded properly in the preferences menu. Has anyone had this happen or does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello, hereby a snapshot of the Word doc & the result as pdf as shown in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. (In Acrobat reader it shows ok) . Depending on how I convert to pdf I get different results. Sometimes a completely coloured page, a blank page or with only the coloured line showing.
I don't know how to post a link (don't have a web address ..) but if you give me a mail-address I could send the Word document to you.

• Turkish Special characters issue in ECC 6.0, while uploading into table

HI All,
We are working with Turkish special characters in ECC 6.0
We are uploading a CSV file containing characters like : İ, Ğ, Ş, Ü, Ö, as soon as the file gets uploaded to application server,
it gets converted to ? or # or Ý.
Also, we are reading the file using OPEN DATASET, ENCODING NON-UNICODE, IGNORING CONVERSION ERRORS, the same characters gets uploaded into the custom table i.e. Ý.
I have also tried saving the file in UNICODE / UTF-8 format, but the issue still remains.
I tried searching SAP Notes as well.
Any pointers to resolve the same will be helpful.
Regards,
Siddhesh Sanghvi

Dear Siddhesh,
Perhaps OSS note 508854 could help here.
Also please be aware that Turkish only runs on ISO codepage 8859-9 (aka Latin-5 / SAP codepage 1610).
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
