Powerpoint 14.3.2 won't launch after 10.8.3 update

Just did a 10.8.3 update and Powerpoint 14.3.2 (the latest Office 2011 version) won't launch properly.  It fires up, puts up a couple little windows after the initial launch screen (which I can't read because it happens too fast), and the Powerpoint app menu appears on top left, but no files can be opened.  Any ideas or other reports of this behavior?
Anurag

Well, turns out that the files were opened (as can be seen with a CTRL-up arrow in Mission Control) but won't show on the screen. While in Mission Control, I moved the icons around and then a tiny window showed up on top left.  It's been working thereafter.
There has got to be a way to roll back an update.  This is the second time an update has interfered with my ability to work when I most needed things to work.

  • Iphoto won't launch after 10.6.8 update, info.plist lost

After I updated, iPhoto would seem to start--it was in the menu bar, but most commands were greyed out and no library was visible or available.  I remembered it was a good idea to trash preferences, so I trashed the Info.plist file.  I also moved com.apple.iphoto.plist or the like.  Then iPhoto's icon turned into a generic app icon and I can't even get the menu bar to become iPhoto.  I found this:
iPhoto[1303]: No Info.plist file in application bundle or no NSPrincipalClass in the Info.plist file, exiting
    com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97] ([0x0-0xcb0cb].com.apple.iPhoto[1303]): Exited with exit code: 1
I may have lost the Info.plist forever in my (ironic) efforts to get iPhoto to work again!
    Help?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Bloomberg app won't launch after v2.0.5 update

I downloaded the latest Bloomberg update (v2.0.5) into iTunes on my Mac Pro, and then I connected and synced my iPod Touch. My Bloomberg app now fails to launch. The initial Bloomberg screen appears for a few seconds, but then I get sent back to the main iPod Touch screen. Shutting down and restarting my iPod did not help, nor did re-synching via iTunes.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Did you find a solution? Is it possible to revert my Bloomberg app back to its previous version without affecting all my other apps? Thanks!
    Don

is it just the bloomberg app, or is it others?
this is quite a common problem, which normally affects all apps. the two solutions generally suggested are a reset of the ipod (hold down home and power button until you get an apple on the screen) or downloading another app (any seems to do it)
if you downloaded it via your computer, have you tried downloading it straight to you ipod using wifi? or have you tried deleting it and downloading it again?
if it is just that app, it may be a problem with the update, in which case it may be a good idea to contact the manufacturer/go to their website and see if any problems have been reported in any forums they may have.
another thing i've just thought of, and i'm not sure whether this will work, but when i go into the apps folder via mymusic and itunes, (on a windows machine, not sure about mac) there are usually multiple versions of the same app listed if they've been upgraded. you could try deleting the most recent one and then resyncing.

  • IPhoto won't launch after 10.4.9 update

I updated via software update to 10.4.9, but now iPhoto won't open. It sits at the "loading photos" screen for a minute or two with a spinning beach ball and then quits. I tried reinstalling the update from apple's website but that didn't help either. Thankfully, the pictures are still on the hard drive.
    What to do?
    15" MacBook Pro 2.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just spent a few hours on the phone w/ Apple Care, we did end up ditching that file, as well as a few others. Lets just say this, I am now forced to rebuild my library from the Originals folder.
It's my own fault for not backing up before updating. Stupid.

  • ID CS4 won't launch after 6.0.6. update

It just bounces one time in the dock. Anyone else?
    - repaired permissions
    - restarted
    - went back to 6.0.5
    thanks

I'm quite pleased to hear that Adobe is issuing an update for an older version of ID; it marks a welcome divergence from previous patch-behavior on Adobe's part. However, I never update anything the moment a patch comes out, unless it's patching a major vulnerability and the exposed vulnerability would be worse than the hassle deriving from a broken application. That being said, take a look at this:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb10-24.html
Hmm. I'm torn; maybe I should run the update right away.

It sounds like the update became corrupt doing the transfer to your machine. What I would do is boot to the install disk and perform an archive and install and then download the update directly from the site.

  • ICal won't launch after 10.5.2 upgrade

my iCal won't launch after 10.5.2 upgrade. it won't even give an "unexpectedly quit" message, it pops up then quits, then nothing. This happened immediately after the upgrade today. I got the leopard disc out and did an archive and install then it worked perfect, no issues, then I did a software update (since I was back to 10.5.0), and installed the 10.5.2 security upgrade, now iCal will not launch, am I the only one with this problem?

I had the exact same problem -- doubled events and could not edit anything. I flushed the cache as describe in some more detail here: http://www.tipstrs.com/tip/2506/iCal-problem-with-Leopard-Upgrade and everything started working just fine.

  • Safari won't launch after 3.1.1. download mistake

safari won't launch after download of 3.1.1 by mistake I only have OS 10.3.9.
mail won't relaunch either, i downloaded camino it won't launch either, my fire fox works but i can't get to my mail. How do I clean up this mess.

Mail relies on WebKit for rendering, so it may have problems even after you got rid of the old Safari. I would try download the Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update, and that should update WebKit and everything else for you. It's a 117 MB download, including all the extra languages.
As for upgrading to 10.4.11, that's a completely new version of Mac OS X compared to your current version. It's faster, has more features, and you can actually run Safari 3.1.1 on it. It's not sold by Apple anymore, but various retailers have unsold copies still available. You might want to check around locally for a "Retail" (boxed) copy, or even on eBay for the same thing. Don't even think about buying a cheap copy for a laptop, since those are specific to those machines; you always want the full boxed copy.

Thanks for the help apple community - Take care.

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Finder Won't Launch After Traumatic Re-Install

    Hello All,
I've had one **** of a ride. I run 10.3.9. After a bad Mac update corrupted my boot disc, I was forced to reinstall...but since I bought my G4 used, I didn't have the original discs. I needed a computer up and running immediately, so installed the only operating system I could find...10.2.8. Luckily, all my files and apps are intact.
Today, I finally managed to find an install disc for 10.3.4. When I installed 10.3.4, everything was great....except that Finder won't launch. I can still launch the programs in my dock, but I can't get to apps that aren't in the dock...namely Final Cut Pro. I thought I might be able to beat it by installing the combined 10.3.9 update from Mac, but my Finder is still dead.
Any help anyone could provide would be more appreciated than you'll ever know. Thanks!

    Welcome To  Discussions Mulcahey!
"...so installed the only operating system I could find...10.2.8."
"...find an install disc for 10.3.4."
What type of discs are these?
Are they a Jaguar Full Retail CDs, and a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs?
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
If not, that may be the problem.

  • ITunes won't launch after system re-install?

I had to reinstall Snow Leopard after my finder disappeared (I'm assuming some corruption to finder but who knows).  Anyhow, I've spent all day re-installing Snow Leopard and bringing it back up to 10.6.6.  Many of my third party apps needed to be re-installed as did major apps like FM Pro 11.  But the Apple app. that won't launch is iTunes 10.4.1.  Anybody with any thoughts on why this is happening and how I can resolve it?  Thank you.

I re-verified permissions, shut down and removed all power (inc battery)- restarted and itunes started when launched from doc. I don't know what the difference was, but it seems to be working.

If you did not install the software following the upgrade but did some form of transfer or migration then you should probably uninstall and then use the Cleaner Tool.  After that install using the discs or a downloaded set  of installation files.

  • Finder won't launch after re-install 7.1

I reinstalled QT 7.1 after having problems with 7.2. I was getting only audio and no video. After the reinstall I rebooted and now the finder won't launch so I can't see my hard drive or any icons on my desktop. And oddly enough the only app that will open is safari and quicktime now works!
What have I done and any clue on what just happened?

There is no "re-install" of older software versions allowed in OS X.
The only safe way to revert to previous versions is by Archive and Install using the Tiger DVD.
