PowerPoint 2007 and 2010 crash after typing text

A friend of mine got a new HP laptop with Windows 8 for Christmas. The laptop came with Microsoft Office 2007 installed (don't know the version) and everything was working fine until a few days ago when he started to uninstall software that he thought was
useless (he uninstalled the WiFi drivers, among other things).
After he screwed up, PowerPoint started to crash whenever he tried to type text, so he decided to uninstall Office 2007 and install Office 2010 (I have no idea if he did any of these the correct way) but the problem persisted. I tried to help him by doing
a system recovery using the restore point from a week ago, but the problem didn't go away. Not sure if this is an Office problem or if the issue is caused by something else (he has installed a lot of garbage software that he probably found on the net, and
his web browser opens a new window constantly showing ads). I am tempted to do a complete system recovery and get the laptop back to its factory settings but am afraid that this won't fix the issue.
By the way, could you recommend software to fix the problems with the ads (I've never had issues with this, so I have no idea what's good)?

I'd suggest to run a full scan for the computer with a fully updated anti-virus software (please run the scan in
safe mode), see if we can find out any virus or malware.
After that,
For the Office issue,
Try to start PowerPoint in safe mode (hold down Ctrl key and double click on the shortcut icon) to determine if this could be caused by the 3rd-party add-ins.
I'd suggest to remove the current install first, and reinstall it again.

This web based admin tool is really quite a disappointment.
Considering what Exchange 2007 and 2010 had, this is a giant step backwards. Hopefully someone will wake up and by SP1 incorporate a usable gui management tool into Exchange.
It does not help that some of the powershell commands were changed or made more complicated. Specific ones I have found so far were the ones relating to certificates, import-exchangecertificate, new-exchangecertificate, etc

Opening Office 2007 and 2010 documents in FDM as Custom documents

Hi Gurus, could you please help with this one.
I am trying to load Office 2007 and 2010 documents as custom documents in FDM. I can load the files successfully but when I try to open the loaded excel (xlsx) or word (docx) file, it opens up as a zip for me to save. I have added the docx, xlsx & pptx mime file types in the workspace without any luck as according to the following document *Incorrect format of MS Office 2007/2010 Files Downloaded from EPM Workspace [ID 1426071.1]*
Has anyone experienced this issue before:

Can you try this next: navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (if you have Reader XI installed), or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (Reader XI on 64-bit Windows), and double-click on Eula.exe, then accept the license agreement.
Does that fix the problem?

Getting UConn 8.5 to work with both Exchange 2007 and 2010

According to the document below, I should be able to set up one Unified Messaging service to access mailboxes on both Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007 servers. I setup my service to point to 2010 CAS servers and I can access 2010 mailboxes, but testing 2007 mailboxes comes up with an http 200 error. If I setup the CAS server as 2007, I can access 2007 mailboxes, but get an error on 2010 mailboxes. This will be a real pain if I can't do this with one service. I don't want to have to keep Unity Connection updated as users get moved from 2007 to 2010! Anyoe know how to do this?

I got this to work! My Unified Messaging Service was originally setup to Specify an Exchange Server. That is where I had put the DNS name of the CAS server (and that DNS entry pointed to several CAS servers). I changed the Service to Search for Exchange Servers instead and used that same DNS name in the Active Directory DNS Domain Name. When I do the test of this service, it tells me it Failed to locate a Domain Controller via DNS, but that is just informational. It also says it successfully connected to the Exchange CAS server with the autodiscover.xml. Now my mailboxes on both Exchange 2007 and 2010 are able to receive voicemail messages with this one Service configured.

You can only install Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012 R2
As far as I know Exchange 2010 SP3 can't be installed on R2 . The other Exchange Servers are too old

Difference between Exchange 2007 and 2010

I want to know what are the differences between Exchange 2007 & 2010, i mean what was missing in 2007 which is addresses in 2010. Both from Administrator point of view and client point of view. How admins are going to benefit from 2010 and how clients

Outlook 2007 and 2010 on Windows XP keeps asking for password

I have a fresh installation of Exchange 2013 installed on Windows 2012 and the problem is that Outlook 2007 and 2010 which is installed on Windows XP keeps asking for password.
The problem occurs only on Windows XP while on Windows 7 is working fine.

I had similar issue in my environment -Exchange 2010 SP2 UR4-v2 ,DAG 2 MBX servers(MBX1 and MBX2) in production site ,2 CAS in production site ,17 mail box databases , Public folder replicated to all the mailbox servers.
strangely users using outlook 2003 and outlook 2007 were being prompted for user name passwords.
investigations were done as follows
1. test connection status -click on the outlook icon in the lower right of the users desktop.clicked on test connection status ..
2. found that the username was being prompted while attempting to connect to the public folder in MBX1 server.
3. using EMC on the exchange server, changed databases pointing to public folder in MBX1 to public folder in MBX2. This solved the issue for us.however we were not sure of what the exact issue was ..was it public folder corruption in MBX1? .we found
that the users were being prompted for username and password only in outlook 2007 and not in OWA or outlook 2010. this made us rule out possibility of Public folder corruption in MBX1 server.
4.raised a case with microsoft to do a RCA (root cause analysis) . The resolution from them was to change the exchange RPC service on MBX1 from "network service" to "local account" and switch back to "network service".
The reason stated by microsoft is "password cache corruption" .Any ways the problem was solved at the server level.

Lync 2013 no longer has its own installer, but instead uses the Office installer. You can create a customized installation and deploy it just like you do with Office:

Exchange 2007 and 2010 with Unity Connection 8.6

Hi all,
We have unity connection 8.6 and exchange 2007 currently in place and runnign fine. I am ready to start migrating mailboxes over to our new exchange 2010 farm and as such we will be in co-exsistance with exchange 2007 and 2010 for awhile. What are the steps or procdures to also include exchange 2010 with the 2007 in unity connections? Currently under Smart Host is the IP address of our exchange 2007 server.

Hi,
This depends on how you plan on performing the migration. I would suggest the following:
-Creating a new unified messaging service for Exch 2010. You can re-use the same service account name as long as you completed the configuration steps for that integration.
-As you move over user's mailboxes from 2007 to 2010, you can delete the 2007 UM service and add the new 2010 UM service. If you want to change many users at a time you'll need to use bulk administration to change them. If you use BAT to change accounts, see the link below where I have listed them out for another CSC user.
-You can change the Smart Host setting once you have configured the Exch 2010 enviornment to handle your main corporate mail (changing the MX records to point to a 2010 Edge Transport).

Macbook pro 2010 crashes after waking from sleep

I upgraded to mountain lion a month or so ago and ever since my MBP often crashes after waking from sleep. I've included the error report below. Any help would be appreciated. After it restarts, it works fine. Problem consistently happens after waking from sleep.

Exporting Keynote 4.0 to Powerpoint 2007 and 2008

I know that this topic has been discussed previously with respect to Powerpoint 2007 but I'm somewhat frustrated with the export to powerpoint feature in Keynote. Some background:
1. Using keynote since version 1.0
2. Never had a significant problems with exporting to Powerpoint 2004 (minor issues aside)
3. Keynote files exported to .ppt don't open in Powerpoint 2007/2008 (exect very basic files). Exported file can be opened in 2004....
4. Thought that it was an issue with Powerpoint but after trying various combinations now convinced that it is Keynote.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem. When I export a Keynote 4.0.1 presentation to Powerpoint, it cannot be played with the new Powerpoint 2008 on that same Mac (Powerpoint crashes), and it cannot be played on a Windows machine with Powerpoint 2007 (puts Powerpoint into a weird state).
I can take that exported Powerpoint to my iMac where I haven't upgraded to Office 2008 and play it on the older Powerpoint 2004. If I bring the exported Powerpoint (from Keynote 4.0.1) into Powerpoint 2004 and then do a SaveAs from Powerpoint 2004, I can play THAT EXPORT with Powerpoint 2008 on my MacBook Pro.
Keynote 4.0.1 needs to be fixed soonest!

PowerPoint 2007 "import notes" crash

Hi all,
When I am setting up to record my slides, I import my slide
speaker notes into the recording window. Once I do this, and then
hit "OK" and try to save my PowerPoint 20007 file (as .ppt or
.pptx), Presenter 7 crashes 100% of the time.
I'm running Windows XP SP2. I never had this problem with
Presenter v6. Is this a problem unique to me, or are other people
having similar issues?

I managed to solve my problem. I had imported text from
another slide, and for some reason this text caused some major
problems with Presenter 7. So basically deleted the text and
manually typed it into the slide note, and then re-imported the
note into the recording session. For some reason that
worked.
