Powerpoint 2008 Opening Presentations Problem

Hi when I open an existing powerpoint that I created it automatically goes to the slideshow view like I'm going to present it. But I just want to edit it, so if I click in the bottom corner, end show, it closes the whole presentation, and I have to go under file-open-"ppt. 1" or whatever. It's a real pain, I don't want it to open it as if I'm going to present it, I want it to start it up and normal view. Also why when I hit end show does it not go normal view but close the whole presentation. After I open it the long way it works fine, if I end the show, it goes back to normal mode, but for some reason when I do it the other way it messes up.
Thanks,
Brendan

So, I went to the Apple Store last night and spent a great deal of time with two Apple Geniuses. They were puzzled. We check one of their new MacBook Pros running 10.5.6 and Office for Mac 2008 version 12.1.5. It worked fine on their computer. So it looks like Office 2008 can run and print on a MacBook Pro unibody with the latest OS and MS updates. Next, we tried my computer printer to their printers, a Lexmark and an HP, and no success. So it looks like it is not a printer driver problem. We took a PP file from my computer and put it on one of their computers to rule out a corrupt file and it worked fine. So, I am still not sure what caused it. They suggested that I completely un-install MS Office 2008 and re-install, but what a pain, but I think I will try that this weekend. Adam, thanks for your input, as that makes it seem like an OS 10.5.6 problem. However, I must say I have Office 2004 on my iMac and updated it to 10.5.6 and it works there fine. Hope we get this solved soon.

  • Problems with Powerpoint 2008 Presenter Mode

Hi, I am trying to use Powerpoint 2008 in Presenter Mode so that I can practice with my notes and time myself, but I can't start the timer because any time I move the mouse, it exits presenter mode and enters the basic slideshow. Any tips?
I last used presenter mode a few months ago, and didn't have any problems. I don't know what I could have changed since then to cause this, unless it has something to do with recent software updates?

  • PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'adobe presenter powerpoint com addin' add-in.

I've installed Adobe Presenter V7.0.7 Build 7746. When I open an existing PowerPoint file and try and use Presenter, I get the following error: PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'adobe presenter powerpoint com addin' add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?
No, I don't want to disable it. When I click No, PowerPoint stops working. I get a message that says: Microsoft PowerPoint has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, Widows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. My only choice is to click the Close program button.
When I open the PPT file again, I get the same "experienced a serious problem" message. If anyone has a solution to this, I'd appreciate knowing what it is. It took me a while just to get the Presenter option to appear in the PowerPoint toolbar. Now that I have it, it's not working.
    Thank you!

Thank you for your quick reply. Here are the answers to your questions.
    1. The file I'm having issues with was not created using any version of Presenter. It is simply a PowerPoint file.
    2. The file is a PPT not PPTX.
    3. I am running Windows7 and Office 2010.
I think I might have found the solution to the problem. I opened the PPT file and saved it as a PPTX file. Then I clicked the Presenter option in the PowerPoint toolbar and was able to select different Presenter options with no issues. I opened other PPTX files and I did not get the error window stating 'PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'adobe presenter powerpoint com addin' add-in'.
This seems to work. So, it appears that any PPT file needs to be saved as a PPTX file before using Presenter. If you have another solution that I might be able to keep in my back pocket (in case this happens again and what I did does not work), then please answer. Otherwise, I'm good now.
    Thanks!

  • From powerpoint to adobe presenter : link problem

    Hi,
Can someone helps me? I have a problem with my link from
powerpoint to adobe presenter; indeed adobe presenter doesn't pay
attention of my link called something like "back to last view" and
it's very important in my presentation. Is that normal? Is there a
    solution?

This is normal. This call is not recognized by Presenter. The
best method to create an effect is to copy the slide an give the
user the ability to go "back" to the slide but by using branching
they are actually seeing a different slide. Then the slide that
they are directed to can be given the direction to go back to the
slide they came from or the slide after that.

  • Problem when saving a PowerPoint 2008 for Mac file to PDF.

When I save my PowerPoint 2008 for Mac file as a PDF, the text/font comes out wrong in the PDF -- kind of looks degraded (thinner, darker, more pixilated). I've tried changing the font in the PowerPoint file many times and tried saving it as a PDF both directly and through print -- but each time the text/font doesn't come through correctly in the PDF.  The images/photos in the PowerPoint file all convert to the PDF just fine.  Can anyone help?

  • Leopard 10.5.2 Update and Powerpoint 2008 performance

Anyone having performace problems with Powerpoint 2008 under 10.5.2?
I updated to 10.5.2 with no problems (that I know of) and everything seems to work fine except it now takes 10-15 seconds to open Powerpoint 2008 from the time that is displays the intro splash for Powerpoint. There is no performance problem with either Word or Excel - they open as fast as before 10.5.2. I'm wondering if it was something in the update or perhaps the subsequent Leopard Graphics update.
    Any ideas or help??

Just an update, but no solution - I decided to try a reinstall of Office 2008 to see if that fixed the problem. I even went as far as restarting between deleting the old install and beginning the new one. I also did a custom install and chose not to install Microsoft fonts, since they are already installed and I wanted to make sure I did not create any duplicate font problems.
Result was the same performance problem when starting up Powerpoint. What makes it really frustrating is that I'm not even opening an existing presentation. I'm just starting the program and waiting for a blank, untitled presentation.
    Hopefully we'll hear something soon...

  • Filevault and PowerPoint 2008, Excel 2008

    Hi,
Since I got no answer from Microsoft, I thought I try my fellow Mac Users.
My Company requires FileVault be activated on all Mac laptops. With 10.5.x and Filevault enabled, we can not save Excel 2008 or PowerPoint 2008 documents. Word 2008 documents works just fine.
I have tried all versions of Office 2008, 12.0, 12.1, all the way to the current 12.1.4. Same problem occurs.
Anyone have the same experience? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ed

I have no solution, but I have no such problem even though I work in a corporate environment that uses FileVault. The IT department configures FileVault, however, and it is possible that your company has not enabled something it needs to. It should be easy for your company's IT person to test whether the problem really has to do with FileVault [try a machine with FV off] and, if it does, whether it relates to the configuration [e.g., by using the built-in FileVault with its most permissive setting].
Although I have not experimented with NeoOffice and OpenOffice recently, I am always suspicious about compatibility claims. Even when compatibility is "very good," it is not perfect and the exceptions can bite. Personally, I prefer using Mellel (or Pages) for writing, and Keynote for presentations, but I would never claim more than pretty good compatibiity. Problems can arise, e.g., with respect to graphics, footnotes and endnotes, unusual fonts, and so on. They may be "minor," but not if you don't catch them. Conclusion: get your IT folks to track down the problem.

  • Pressing S doesn't start or stop automatic slide show in PowerPoint 2008

I have an automatic slide show created in PowerPoint 2008 which runs fine on PowerPoint 12.2.3 on a Mac running OS 10.5.8, but when running the same version of PowerPoint on 10.6.2, pressing the S and equal keys do not stop and start the presentation. The only thing that stops the automatic slideshow is control-mouse-click (which of course brings up the sub-menu). Has any one else experienced this?

    Hi Glo H,
I tried that and it didn't fix the problem...the music still starts a bit choppy (part way into the music) at the tail end of the 1st slide/beginning of second. I don't know if I mentioned earlier, that the music, when it does come in, is at the point it should be, i.e. like it started with the first slide, just not coming out of the speakers...if that makes any sense
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • PowerPoint 2008 question

I realize this may not fit the topic subhead here, but I can't find any better place to ask it.
I have a very strange problem with the new PowerPoint 2008. The PPT slide show feature disappeared yesterday morning when I was trying to review a lecture I have to give in a few days. PPT 2008 directs me to Presenter Tools instead. Presenter Tools also takes me to Presenter Tools.
I have deleted Office 2008 and preferences from my hard drive and reinstalled, but that did not help.
I never saw this with Office 2004. Has anyone ever seen this before? Can it be fixed?
I posted this on the MS forum about PowerPoint and no one answered. I also posted this question on a non-commercial user forum for Microsoft products and the admins censored and deleted it.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I found the best solution to this problem. There are actually two options:
    1) delete PowerPoint 2008 from your hard drive and use NeoOffice instead. It is beautiful, performs smoothly and is basically free
    2) delete PowerPoint 2008 from your hard drive and use Keynote instead. It has rough edges and does not handle the old PowerPoint formatting as well, not does it transition all slides, but at least you can use the Slide Show Feature again.
It appears to me that Office 2008 was a "not ready for market" technology. I have often found NeoOffice to be a good stand-in when faced with old Office 2007 -> 2004 problems. Now I see no reason to have Office 2008 at all. NeoOffice does everything.

  • Can't change file association (Powerpoint 2011 to Powerpoint 2008)

    Hello
On my iMac I've recently installed MS Office 2011. The old version of Office 2008 is still installed as well. I've got some problems with the new version of Powerpoint (2011). Therefore I'd like to use the old version of Powerpoint (2008) for all my Powerpoint files.
Unfortunately it is not possible to just uninstall Powerpoint 2011 without uninstalling the whole Office suite. So my idea was: changing the file association and let opening all Powerpoint files with the older version.
The problem is: I can change the association of a single file. But if I try to apply the changes to all files of this type, it does not work. This behaviour only exists for Office files.
Does anybody know, why this happens?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you,
    Marco

Launch Services has always been a bit..."strange"
Why not compress the MS 2011 PP (right click it to bring up finder's contextual menu and select compress) into a zip file.  Trash the uncompressed file (see below).  And then launch services hopefully won't have any choice but to select and use MS 2008 PP.
Before you delete the original in the trash.  Double click the zip file to expand it back to another copy of 2011 PP.  Make sure that launches properly.  This is just an extra safety (paranoid) check to make sure the original zipped correctly.  Then you can also trash this second copy as well.

  • Unable to open presentations

I am often unable to open Presentations created in Keynote on the very computer on which they were created. I receive a message saying: This version of Keynote cannot open the file. Any yet, this is the version I created it in on the computer I used to create it! Even more strange, I can open those file using PowePoint!
Has anyone else had this problem? I really need to fix it. I VERY MUCH prefer Keynote to PowerPoint, but I create these presentaitons for work and I can't have them not opening when I need them in meetings.
    Thanks!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Michael, are these presentations that you explicitly saved as PowerPoint files? If not, they should not be openable from within PowerPoint. It sounds to me like something fundamental may be wrong with your installation of Keynote -- I would suggest re-installing it and see if that fixes the problem.

Difficulty using a projector. I have a MBP 17" and am running 10.6.8. Often I need to make a Powerpoint or other presentation  at a client and I want to connect my computer to their projector. Either it won't display on the projector at all. Once it displayed but the presentation mode was on the big screen and the presentation I wanted to show was on my MBP screen. I have the adapter( white ones) to attached to the projector cables.  I am so frsutrated...it looks so silly not to have a computer work during a presentation..
Another problem one the rare occasion that it shows on the screen is that the presentation does show just my desk top.  Any ideas?
    Thanks !

You often have to turn off Mirroring to be able to set the second "screen"s resolution to something reasonable. When you do, the two screens become an "Exceeded Desktop" joined along one edge, and the Arrange pane in displays prefs can allow you to specify what edge. Initially, it will show a vacant extension of the built-in screen's desktop.
The mouse moves freely across that shared edge, and can allow you to drag the presentation window across to the the projector screen and re-size it to fit.

  • Powerpoint 2008 printing presets

Wasn't sure where else to post this issue.
We are trying to set up our Powerpoint 2008 print presets where it prints Slides 6 to a page, and fits the slides to the page. When we save it as a print preset, the preset gets saved, then prints out fine, but when we close powerpoint and re-open it, the preset is there but the settings we set are gone and set back to the defaults.
Does anyone know how to fix this or where the location that the print preset is being stored to is located?

  • Better PowerPoint 2008 Export

I would really like to see better export compatibility with PowerPoint 2008. While I personally can't stand PowerPoint, sometimes I have to export to it for Windows users.
Most of my shadows and none of my reflections exported even though PowerPoint supports both. Some of the text and bullets didn't export correctly even though I used the same font and bullets throughout the whole presentation. I had to go through and manually adjust everything.
