Powerpoint Attachments

How can I open Powerpoint attachments in email? I see the iphone can open Word docs and Excel spreadsheets, but when I receive an email with a Ppt attachment, it doesn't allow me to download the attachment and view it.

You cannot open Powerpoint files on the iPhone. It's not supported.

Just got the IMAC 20" and purchased Office Mac Student Teacher Edition, which I installed without a problem. I am unable to open PowerPoint attachments created on my PC at work, but sent home by email.
Does anyone know how you can open PC created attachments using Office on a Mac, using the Office Mac programs?

    Try -> Using your iMac

  • Can't download Word, Excel or PowerPoint Attachments

I am new to Macs and I recieved emails from people with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint attachments and I cannot download any of them. I have Office:Mac installed, so I do have all those programs. I don't know if there is something I need to download.
I have this problem whether I use my school's webmail page or Entourage. When I try to open or save the files, it says "The file is read-only, or you may be trying to acess a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding."
    Please help me!

I'm not sure if you exactly mean what you mean.
Are you not able to save an attachement or are you not able to download a file?
For the first case: is the attachement showing up in Mail? If so, what happens when simply clicking on the attachement?
For the second case: check your download-location configured in Safari to ensure you save to a directory available for write-access.

  • PowerPoint Attachments in Mail do not Open

I have a new Intel Dual Core iMac. I receive a lot of attachments in mail, all of which I have no problems opening except for one: PowerPoint. When I click on a PowerPoint attachment, Mail tells me that it doesn't know which application should open it. When I drag the attachment from Mail to the PowerPoint 2004 icon on the dock, it opens just fine. I do not have this problem on my PowerBook. The get info on the PowerPoint attachment does indicate that PowerPoint 2004 is the default app.
    Any Ideas?

The only thing that I could think of would be to change the open with to something else. Then change it back and set to open all as default. I had this happen before and that fixed it for me.

  • Reader can't open PowerPoint attachments

    Hi folks,
I've created a PDF document collection on CD for a client of mine. Several of the PDFs have PowerPoint presentation attachments. The entire collection has been password protected (allowing filling in of form fields, and low-res printing). When I test the files, I can open the PDFs and their PPT attachments with no problem on my computer. However, my client is getting the following error message when trying to open the attachments on his computer: "Acrobat cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened." We have both searched and searched for a file attachment setting that is affecting his ability to open these files but cannot find it.
If anyone can point us in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it! By the way we are using Acrobat 9 on Windows 7.
    Regards,
    Gail

Thanks for responding. There must be more to it than Reader vs. Acrobat Pro. I have both Reader and Acrobat Pro on my computer, and I always do my testing in Reader to make sure I'm working in the same environment as my client. When I open a PDF with a PPT attachment in Reader, I am able to open the PPT. We used a similar collection of files for our annual CD last year: PDFs, with PPT attachments, using Acrobat 9 Reader. Last year this issue did not pop up, so I'm really puzzled.
The only thing I see as a possible solution, is that when I try to open the PPT from Reader, I get the warning about macros, viruses, etc., and I'm given the choice to 1) open the file, 2) always open this file type, or 3) never open this file type. I'm wondering if at some point he accidentally chose option (3). Even if he did, there must be some override that we can do.
This CD collection will ultimately be distributed to the attendees and presenters from a technical conference, so several hundred people will be trying to open these files. We have to give them workarounds, otherwise it looks like the error is in the CD itself.
Is anyone from Adobe out there listening?
    Thanks again,
    Gail

  • Attachments Powerpoint vs. Keynote

How can I make mail read Keynote attachments when they are send to me as Keynote files, and Powerpoint attachments when they are send to me as Powerpoint files, rather than making one of them being the default application to open presentation files?

    Have you tried this?
Select a PowerPoint file via the Finder and use Get Info for the file. At Open With, select PowerPoint and select Change All below "Use this application to open all documents like this.
Do the same with a Keynote file selecting the Keynote application for the file instead.

  • Receiving mail, but can't send mail with attachments?

    Hello,
I can't send mails anymore, I have been able to send some without any attachments (i.e. reply doesn't work as it automatically attaches the original text). This started 3 days ago. Also, my mail doesn't seem to recognize powerpoint and word docs., but I a know the people who have send me such files do not have VISTA. When I choose "open with" then it works. So I have 2 problems, one being moe urgent then the other.
    1) can't send mail with attachments
    2) .doc (word), .pps (powerpoint)attachments are not always recognized.
    thank you all!!!

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works

  • How do I view Powerpoint files without Office and Keynote?

Someone sent me a Powerpoint file today. I was able to view it
using Keynote, but now my 30-day trial has started and I have no intention
    of buying iWork.
I have Word2004, not Office2004, which will display Powerpoint files.
Microsoft used to have a free Powerpoint viewer pre-OS X. Is there anything in Tiger what will do this? If not, what would you recommend the next time I get a Powerpoint file?

    Hi gwgoldb;
Sent it back and ask for them to send it in a different format.
If they insist on sending it to you in Powerpoint that is what the delete key is for. You might let them know that you intend to delete any future emailwith Powerpoint attachments.

  • 2.0 View PowerPoint, Not Keynote?

Why is Apple going to allow PowerPoint, Word and Excel viewing, but no mention of Keynote, Pages or Numbers?
Have Mac users become the red-headed step-child?
    http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2008/03/06iphone.html
"In addition to these new iPhone network and security features, the beta iPhone 2.0 software provides several new Mail features such as the ability to view PowerPoint attachments, in addition to Word and Excel, as well as the ability to mass delete and move email messages."

They most certainly will never usurp Office if they abandon their own faithful consumers. I am not opposed to Office support, but the lack of Mac application support is ridiculous. The lack of supporting an integrated to do list of their own desktop software is insane. Must we all switch to Office to get a fully functioning smart phone.
This roadmap, as a Windows switched to Mac, user has an awful lot of potholes that appear to be leading back to Microsoft.
When will we get full Mac application support for our Apple iPhone?

  • Problems with email containing a powerpoint attachment

Hi group! Almost everytime I receive an email with a powerpoint attachment, opening of the attachment locks up my computer. I totally lose my pointer, and cannot escape, close or anything and usually have to shut down my computer, and at times even that is difficult. This only happens with powerpoint attachments. I've begun to just delete them for the dreaded fear of the lock-up, and hate to lost some neat programs because of this. Any suggestions? Thank you so much! Catheyjo

    CathyJo,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Do you have MS Office 2004 for opening PowerPoint presentations, or are you relying upon Keynote, or other applications to open these attachments? Whatever the case, can you use that same application directly to compose new PowerPoint presentations?
If you save the PowerPoint attachment to, say, your Desktop, can you then open that Saved file with the desired application? Does the application you intend to open PowerPoint files have a full compliment of fonts?

  • Blackberry Connect opening email attachments

I'm having some problems with my blackberry connect software (4.0.0.106).  I connect into my bes server (4.1.6.14) with my AT&T tilt.  when I read an email that has a powerpoint presentation in it, all I get are the slides with nothing on them.  if there's graphics for the slide, then it just shows:
    ------slide1-------
    ------slide2-------
    some garbage text
    ------slide3-------
I think you get the idea.  if I extract the attachment on my computer and copy it to my phone, powerpoint displays it accurately.  it appears that there might be a quick view that won't let me do anything other than look at the TOC which is useless.  is there a way to make the application that owns the attachment type open the attachment on my PDA?

    Hello,
Ok, I'll have a crack at this....
The ability to view Powerpoint attachments is only available with BB software version 4.5 onwards.
I am assuming that the same is true for BB Connect (but I dont even know what version the BB Connect is up to!)
In additon I am assuming that the BB Connect does not pass the cdocument to the OS to view - that would also explain the reduced functionality. Can you view powerpoints on the Tilt natively? (Never hear dof the tilt - sorry!)
Unfortunately you will have to goto the the AT&T website to see if they have a newer version of the COnnect software for the Tilt.

  • Why is FF not able to display an encrypted PDF correctly (usind pdf.js)?

After entering the password, only a white page appears - instead of the text.
    Here are the details:
    File: www.phirents.net/trans.pdf
    Password: ELXRTQWS
Can anyone assist me? I'm quite desperate. Great thanks!

You should be able to view both PDFs and Powerpoint attachments by tapping on them to download them and then open them. Without a separate app you can't then save them on the iPad, but you should be able to open and the read both of them in the Mail app.

  • Opening Winmail.dat files in Mail on iPad (Ms Windows Word, Excel, Ppt)

I thought I'd share my findings on what to do if your Word, Excel, Powerpoint attachments come into your Mail as winmail.dat files. In my experience I downloaded the following Apps:
      Pages
      Numbers
      DocsToGo
    WinMailViewer
      Letter Opener
To open the winmail.dat file hold the icon until asked how you want to open the file: WinMailViewer or Letter Opener (assuming you've previously downloaded both Apps).
WinMailViewer is exactly what it says ... a 'viewer' of the file.  The file is sent to the relevant App which you subsequently open to see a list of the files.
Letter Opener will bring up the attachment(s) in a separate window and gives you choices on which App you'd like to use to open or view the file with. Depending on what Apps you've previously downloaded:
For Excel it might list: Quick Look, DocsToGo, Csv File Editor, PDFReaderLite
For Word, it might list: Pages, DocsToGo, PDFReaderLite
DocsToGo is an excellent option for working on Word, Excel files (N.B. If you have a big Excel file with 'frozen' window panes, I recommend clicking on the 4th tool (bottom toolbar) UnFreezing the panes while you work or move around the file as I haven't figured how to work with it on!!)
Pages is the best option to use for editing Word files.
Numbers is probably the best option to use for editing Excel files.
Csv File Editor is another Excel editing option.
    I hope that helps.

I should further say the files I sent are .xlsx and .docx files.  They look fine my end and I send such files all the time without problems.
However, I did try to cheat by going in via the Safari onto my 'live' online email account and the Safari automatically transfers them to winmail.dat files with the same result.
Ahh - have just been on using my PC this time and you are right, it seems that the service provider does the transfer and then when my outlook opens the file (on the PC), it must reconvert to .xlsx etc again.
    Very strange.
Ergo, I guess the question should be how I open wimail.dat files ??
