Powerpoint crashing (viva Keynote?)

Hello my friend instaled the Boot Camp for me (I am totaly hopeles when it comes to technology, read about instaling Boot Camp and still didn't have the courage to do it) everything works just fine except one thing I need the most and that is Powerpoint, it crashed several times and I had to reboot my MBP. I heard its not good to reboot it frequently. I also read another post here and the person mentioned Powerpoint crashing as well, though it didn't sound like being a problem for him (if it was her I am sorry). I don't want to reinstal everything again because apart from this there isn't a single problem. Does any of you have an idea what might it be? Or is it just windows doing what it's best at randomly crashing because of some problem that programers should have taken care of? If it is I would appreciate the oppinion of apple users who have an experience with Keynote, whether you think it is better than powerpoint and why? My last question concerns Keynotes compatibility. If I save my Keynote presentation on my USB key can I do the presentation on normal PC? (I know I have a laptop, but it would be quite useful to be able to use the USB in the staff room instead of carying around the whole lot.)
Thank you very much for any help or ideas.
Mr.Binsswanger

As an aside, that is very weird to me. Apple can open MS files in the form of ppt but PowerPoint can't open Keynote files in the form of key? How can that be any good for Apple? I would think a heck of a lot more people would need ppt than key? Right? Can you export files to ppt from the Keynote app?
Thanks,
Bob

When I try to insert - the .pptx files are greyed out.

Open the PowerPoint file in Keynote:     File >Open
copy and paste these slides into the other presentation at the place you want them to show

can i open and edit a powerpoint doc in keynote?

Yes you can. It helps a lot if the fonts and effects used have the equivalent  in Keynote otherwise they will be substituted.  It can be saved as PowerPoint or as a Keynote file.

  • Font conversions to Powerpoint 08 from Keynote 09

I have a font called CAC Leslie that I am trying to bring in to a powerpoint presentation from keynote. When I export it out the font shows up on the powerpoint font list but the actual characters show as some type of sans serif font like arial or verdana. Is there any sort of plugin that can remedy this so the font shows as it should?

Is the PowerPoint presentation on the same machine, or a different one? Both PowerPoint and Keynote use the fonts that are on the presenting machine -- if the required font is not available, it is substituted. There is no plugin for either application that addresses this, as you simply need to have the required font installed.
As a workaround, you could make the text into a graphic in Keynote.

  • Powerpoint crashes when trying to view the drawing toolbar

Powerpoint crashes when trying to view the drawing toolbar (spinning wheel). Only option is to force quit.
I've already tried resetting the toolbar and using the disk utility to repair permissions.
I set up a new User Account on the Mac to test it, and everything works fine on the new account.
How can I get it to work on my main user account (and also the guest account that's already set up)?
Checking Microsoft's forum says if it works on a new test account to contact Apple Support.
    Thanks,

    Application corruption problems:
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist.
Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below. It does work with Mountain Lion:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Firefox doesn't have any built-in ability to display PowerPoint files in a tab. You can check how Firefox is set to handle PowerPoint files in the Options dialog:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Applications
''This list may take a while to load.'' In the search box above the list, you can type pow and let Firefox filter it down. Usually these would say "Always Ask" but you might have customized them to "Use Microsoft Powerpoint".
There are some sites that have a Flash-based PowerPoint viewer, such as OneDrive/SkyDrive and SlideShare. Maybe Gmail has one now, too, I haven't checked. But all such sites also should have a separate download button, either before showing their viewer or as part of the viewer. If there are particular sites where you notice this problem, maybe someone know how to bypass the viewer on that site and go straight to a download.

  • Problems with Converted PowerPoint Presentation in Keynote

    Hello,
I recently loaded a 29Mb Powerpoint file into Keynote on my 64Gb iPad 2.  Whenever I launch Keynote, the 29 Mb presentation loads automatically and I cannot access any of my other Keynote presentations.  I've tried powering off and stopping the Keynote app to no avail.  In addition, I cannot load the Keynote Menu options at the top of the screen while my 29 Mb presentation is active.  Has anyone else encounted this type of behavior in Keynote when converting large Powerpoint files on an iPad?
    Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. I agree with you that it seems the GB iLife preview file is not updating as one would expect it to. Sharing the file to iTunes then importing to Keynote does work, without all the extra preferences changing and the extra save. I would think that as more people switch to Keynote from PowerPoint, those who like the ability to sync slide groups to multiple audio files will find GarageBand a great way to do this. But the export of edited files from GB to Keynote should be easier.

  • When I open a powerpoint presentation in Keynote I only see the first 8 slides

When I open a powerpoint presentation in Keynote I only see the first 8 slides.  Any ideas?

    Curious.
If I had this problem I would try the followinng:
open the PPt file in PowerPoint (or Open Office for Mac, which is a free and  reliable option to MS Office) save it  as a PPt file and open in Keynote
open in PPt or Open Office,  save all the slides as individual TIFF files and bring those into Keynote ( builds would not work on individual text or objects on a slide but at least you have the content)
    Open Office

  • PowerPoint Crashing When Printing

Hello all. Hope someone can help me asap.
I have a Canon colour copier with a Fiery. I am trying to print some slides from PowerPoint but as soon as I select to print, PowerPoint crashes. I cannot create PDF's either. Within a couple of seconds of the print window appearing, I get a Microsoft Error Reporting window and the option to recover my work and restart PowerPoint.
If I change the printer to a different Canon that is only B&W, I can print! No crash. But I need to print the slides in colour.
I am using version 12.2.3 of PowerPoint.
    Help please!
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
Regarding the borders, I noticed a similar result with the Canon PPDs. But I have found a solution to printing from PPT using the imagePASS driver without a crash.
For some reason the crash only occurs when you have the LPD queue set to print. After creating a new LPD queue set to direct or hold, the crash did not occur. I also found that the crash occurred when using HP Jetdirect for the protocol. But this was due to the queue being bound to the print queue in the imagePASS. After changing this to hold or print, I was also able to print without crashing.
So it leaves me to believe that when there is some level of bidirectional communication, such as when you use the print queue, the crash occurs due to something in the imagePASS driver clashing with PPT.
We don't use PPT that often and when we do we always use the hold queue, so that we can change print properties, proof and reprint via Command Workstation when needed.
Anyway, I suggest you create the printer queue again to the J1, this time selecting LPD for the protocol and setting a queue name of direct (make sure you enter the queue name in lower case). This will print your job but will not save the job on the hard drive of the imagePASS. This may not be an issue for you but if it is you could print to the hold queue and then use Command Workstation to print the job. Note that you can download CWS from the imagePASS via its internal web page.
I also suggest you give Canon a call and let them know of your issue. They may have a fix that I am not aware of?
Have a good Christmas Dave and a prosperous 2010.

  • Help me remember how to download a powerpoint file to Keynote

Can someone remind me how to download a powerpoint file to Keynote?

Keynote is a Mac Application only, there is not a  Windows version of Keynote.
I assumed you would realise this as you asked the question in a Mac discussion forum.

  • Why Presenter erase all MP3 when Powerpoint crash ???

I want to know why Presenter erase all MP3 files if Powerpoint crash ?
    step by step...
1- Someone came in my studio and record his presentation.  I took him 2 hours.
2- When finish, I click "save" and close the recording windows.
3- Back in Powerpoint, I click the save button of Powerpoint... and... Powerpoint crash.
4- In windows explorer, I see the Powerpoint and the folder create by Adobe Presenter for the audio files with all the MP3 in that folder.
            -"Yes, everything is there"
5- I re-open the Powerpoint of the client.
6- Click on modify to see if all the audio are there
    7- Haaaaaaaaa, no audio.
-"Ok, I just have to reimport all the MP3 one by one"
8- I try to do that and.... Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... the folder with all the audio has been deleted by Presenter !!!!  I lost all the audio !!!!!!
Ok,  that's not what really happen.  Because I know that sometimes Adobe Presenter decide for me that it want to delete ALL my audio files.  So after step 4 (before re-open the Powerpoint of the client) I made a backup of the folder that contains all the mp3.
Can someone tell me why Presenter decide to erase all audio files when it crash or when it has a problem ????
If I did not make a backup, I would have lost all the work of the client...
And can someone help me with my other post (august 2010)
    Audio files name
All the 60 slides of my client have a name that doesn't match with the slide.  So because Adobe Presenter crashed et erase all the audio files, I have to re-import them slide by slide.  But with all those bizarre name, I have to listen each files and find the good slide that match with them.  why the mp3 don't have a name that match the slide number.  It would be very very very easiest !!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks

What version of Presenter are you using? I know this was a bug with Presenter 7.0.0, and maybe 7.0.1. I've not heard of it happening since then, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. It may be worth a discussion with Adobe Support about what happened and why Presenter would delete your audio files. You can reach them at 800-945-9120.
As to you other post, I did reply to it, but Presenter's functionality can't be changed. When you publish the presentation the audio files that are created do have a naming convention that associates them with the slide they are on, but in the build phase, it uses some cryptic method that I've never been able to figure out. So, for that reason, as well as a handful of other non-Presenter related reasons, I've taken to just using an Audio recording/editing application to deal with my audio, and then importing to Presenter. This allows me more control over the naming convention, as well as more control over the quality and settings used to record and/or encode the audio. It may seem like more work at first, but I feel like I can get through the audio portion of Presenter faster when I use a tool built for audio. Just remember to save or split your audio into individual files for each slide. Name them sequentially and then you can import them all at once into Presenter by selecting the first slide you wish to import to, browsing to the audio files and selecting them all for import.
