PowerPoint in Safari

Hey all,
I'm a student at university in the UK and a lot of my lectures put the PowerPoint presentations they give on to the university website. But I can't view them in safari, is there any plug-in or even another Mac compatible web browser that would solve my problem?
When I try to view the presentation (in Safari), I get a pop-up window saying:
"This presentation contains content that your browser may not be able to show properly. This presentation was optimized for more recent versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
If you would like to proceed anyway, click here."
I continue, and I can see the presentation structure (the slide titles) but when I click on any slide its just blank.

Connie,
Much as I hate to make such a chilling suggestion, my version of Office 2004 (professional) came with Virtual PC.
I haven't gotten around to loading it yet, and have heard it's slow, but if it's the only way to use a newer version of Explorer in a Microsoft environment without actually having to buy a new computer, it might be worth a try.
I don't think it was terribly expensive, if it didn't come with your version of Office.
Hopefully, someone else here has used Virtual PC and can let you know if it's a reasonable idea.

  • Powerpoint Launch Safari

I have a hyperlink in Powerpoint and when I click it, it launcheds IE rather than Safari, which is my default browser. Any ideas on how to change thta?
    Thanks,

In PowerPoint preferences under General tab there is a Web Options button.
In Web Options under Files tab > Browser support make sure Add support for other browsers is selected.

  • Quicktime Clips in PowerPoint Play in IE but not in Safari

When running PowerPoint on my Mac or on my Webserver through IE I can propertly launch Quicktime clips by double-clicking the video window. But when I run PowerPoint through Safari, the double-clicking has a different effect- it seems to be selecting the entire window? And the clip will not run.
Who can help me force Safari to run PowerPoint video clips properly?
I'll appreciate any help or comments.
    Dave

"I tried to uncheck the flash player option in miscellaneous in quicktime preferences > advanced *_but there is no flash player option there."_*
    It should be!
Which version of QT are you using? Also, are you using PRO or the free player?
    QuickTime Preferences > Advanced
    Deactivate the "Flash Media" option.
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software

  • Kernel Panics : Office for Mac or Safari ?

    Hi everyone,
Happy New Year 2015 for a start !
I have been experiencing Kernel panics with my mac book pro mid 2010radomly for a few months now but I am not very good in reading the reports provided once the mac reboots. I observed that Powerpoint and Safari are usually the softwares I am using when experiencing the crash.
Last time, maybe it was because of Word office 2011.
I migrated to Yosemite 2 months ago (version 10.10.1) and I guess my office for mac is updated : Version 14.4.7. Same thing for Safari (version 8.0.2).
Here is the report below : Anyone would understand my problem ?
Thanks in advance to the community.

Unfortunately, I did not manage to contact them. They more orientated me to do usual tests by myself.
I have a question for the community, knowing that I have a strong feeling that my problem is due to Powerpoint.
What do you guys think about uninstall/reinstall Office for Mac 2011 on my macbook pro now that I updated to Yosemite ?
I would follow this modus operandi : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768
Thank you guys for your answers.

  • User accounts, directory structures and selective access privileges

Bought a new MacBook Pro back in April and only now am I getting down to using it. I was thinking of creating the following user accounts in the hope of creating a scheme that allows selective access to certain folders:
    Root -a super user account
Admin - I don’t think I should be logged in as the administrator all the time
Jai Gill - my main account with all my work files including client information that is organised in a Workflow folder containing a Projects folder and a Clients folder (within which, each of my clients has a folder)
Show Time - a secure Simple Finder type account for when I am running a client specific presentation or workshop to ensure all data for other clients is kept secure and away from prying eyes.
When using the Show Time account, I would like to set it up so that only those files relating to the client in question are available for use. For instance, if I am running a workshop for Client G, I only want the folder for Client G available for use in this account and not any other clients. A few hours or days later, this could change to Client B or F or J etc so I need a way to easily secure the current client’s data and switch over to the other client’s data i.e., put away work and pull up new work.
Would it be possible to create a scheme using aliases placed in Show Time’s Documents folder pointing at a client folder in my documents folder to allow this to happen? Would I have to create a group with the right access privileges to enable this to happen? Or is there an alternative method based on using the Shared files folder and some sort of script or application to create a duplicate of a client folder and use a scheme to synchronise it with the original client folder?
Is this possible in Mac OSX? Any thoughts? Ideas? Applications/utilities that already enable this to happen?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Kiraly
I cracked it today. Took a couple of hours to figure out some idiosyncrasy but I'm now set.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Got a copies of Sharepoint, Workgroup Manager and ChronoSync.
    2. Logged into the MacBook Pro as myself, went into System Preferences and used the normal approach to set up an account for a user called Show Time
    3. Using Workgroup Manager, created an addition workgroup called macshow
    4. Made myself and Show Time members of macshow
    5. Attached the MBP to my G5 using my 2gen iPod's FireWire cable and cranked it up in target disk mode
    6. Using ChronoSync, did a 'bi-directional' synchronisation of my Workflow folder into a location in the MBP's Shared folder (going to do this all the time)
    7. Shut down, detached then restarted the MBP and logged on as myself.
    8. Located the Workflow folder in the Shared folder and by getting information, set that folder and all it's contents to be owned by me but accessible and R/W for the group macshow
    9. Went two levels into the Workflow folder [Workflow/4 Delivery/Client T] and using SharePoint, made the folder Client T accessible to the group macshow.
    10. Logged in as Show Time and accessed the Shared folder to find that my scheme had worked and I had access to the folder for Client T and all it's contents.
    11. Logged out and went back in under my ID and now using System Preferences, crippled the Show Time account down to Simple Finder with access limited to just a handful of applications like KeyNote, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Safari.
    12. Went back in as Show Time and it went into Simple Finder and thereafter, everything works great. Workflow showed up as did the folder for Client T plus all its contents. Opened a few documents and presentations and they wrked great.
    New learning points for me:
    1. I had to log out then log back in to make the access privileges stick when using the Show Time accounts
    2. A number of locked Excel files prevented access privileges being set - had to locate and unlock each
    3. Using both SharePoint and Workgroup Manager may be seem to be overkill but it works as these two applications helped in getting the groups sorted out as well as access to a specific folder.
The best part of the above scheme is that I can at anytime, using SharePoint, change the client folder being shared with the user Show Time through the use of the group macshow i.e., change Client T back to my group and then pick say Client J or any number of other client folders and assign them to the group macshow.
Thanks to you and the others who have posted on this and all other threads on this topic, I have sorted this out in one go.
    Jai
PS in case you're wondering why it took me so long to get down to do it, it is something called client work. And may there be more of it too!

  • Macbook Pro SATA drive vs Macbook Pro Retina with flash memory?

How fast does the macbook pro with Retina Display and Flash memory work than the macbook pro with SATA hard drive with same configuration?

    kent.229,
given those uses — PowerPoint, Word, Safari, photo storage — you could probably keep your existing MacBook Pro, replace its internal disk with a SSD, and purchase an external drive to store your photos, at a fraction of the price of a replacement MacBook Pro. (You should also purchase an additional external drive for use as a Time Machine backup destination, if you’re not already doing so — you wouldn’t want to lose 10,000 photos due to a filesystem glitch.)

  • Is 4gb of ram enough for my uses?

Hi everyone, just a little question which has popped up in the past, although I just wanted too get an answer from other people myself.
I'm a college student, 17 years old, starting higher education of my college course in september, which is a 2 year course. I'm wanting to buy a MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display, but I'm just wondering whether I need 4gb or 8gb of ram? And how fast it shall perform when I'm using it?
I shall be using my MacBook Pro for the following:
    • Office for Mac (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
    • Safari (Revision / Web Browsing)
    • videos (Youtube)
    • Itunes (For my iPhone & iPad)
    • FaceTime
    • Mail
    • Notes
    etc...
Will my MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display still run fast and like like normal after using these program's on a daily basis? Thank you.

It may right now, but who knows what the future will bring. You can't upgrade it later so buy it with 8GB now.

  • Macbook Pro June 2013 vs. Refurbished Macbook Pro Retina?

I'm in the process of looking for a new macbook pro to replace mine. I really want a solid state harddrive because my macbook pro is so slow right now. I'm going into dental school and I'm trying to save as much money as possible.
My friend is selling his macbook pro that he bought in June 2013. It is 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 256 GB solid state, $1000.
However, I noticed that the Retina display 256 GB solid state refurbished is $1269.
I went to an apple store on campus and the guy told me I should go with the $1000 offer, without retina display.
I would just love to get any opinions about which would be a better buy or if there are better buys out there. I really don't want to spend more than $1300.
    Thank you so much!!

  • Lion - applications constantly crash - any answers?

Hi,  My MBP I bought in March 2011 with SL.  I have installed Lion but when using it applications regularly crash.  Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Adobe, safari, Mail, Outlook etc etc regularly stop responding and the crash/error reports send their message off to Apple or microsoft or whoever.
So, I think I ought to wipe the disk clean and start again, maybe reinstall snow leopard.  I donlt have a time machine backup, but I have saved all docuemnts, photos, music, movies etc to an external hard drive.
Are there any simple instructions on how to wipe the disk and start again.
PS I have Lion operating on my iMac and it works just fine, never crashes or hangs - it's only a problem on the MBP.
    Thanks for any suggestions
    Bill

Perhaps you have applications on the MBP that require updating. Or you have third-party software installed on the MBP that's not installed on your iMac. Or you need to reinstall Lion. I would do this before wiping the drive and starting over. Also, try each of these independently:
Boot into Safe Mode and operate to see if anything changes.
Create a new user account, then log into the new account and see if anything changes.
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Safari in both MacOS 10.6.8 and Windows 7 will not open PowerPoint SlideShows but Firefox Will

Having Created a PowerPoint Slide Show I find that it cannot be shown with Safari neither in Mac nor Windows 7.
The error message in Windows 7 is: "WebKitErrorDomain error 102"
The error message in Mac OS 10.6.8 is "Frame Load Interrupted."
The exact same Slide Show is easily shown with Firefox 28.0 in the Mac and Firefox 27.0.1 in Windows 7

To start with, my computer is the late 2008 model Imac, has 3g of memory …
I'm assuming you mean the Early 2008 iMac since there is no "late 2008" one. AFAIK, it came with 2 GB of RAM standard & the common BTO option would have been 4 GB, so can we assume that you have installed an aftermarket memory module to get to 3 GB?
I've already had it serviced, and was told that the issue was resolved, and was unrelated to hardware. Fifteen minutes after repair and setup, the exact same symptoms occur.
What repair and setup? Is this something you did after getting the iMac back from service? If so, what exactly did you do?
I had no initial problems with the install of either os (mac or windows), except to note that I couldn't install the apple software updates on the windows side.
Do you mean the Windows drivers or something else? Did you follow the Bootcamp install procedure exactly when reinstalling Windows or not?
I switched back over to mac to look for and install a video firmware download that I had located through these same forums.
What video firmware download do you mean? AKAIK, there are none for early 2008 iMacs.
No offense intended, but it is hard to understand exactly what you have done because while you mention much, you don't say a lot about the specifics for a lot of that. In general, it is best to concentrate on those things & keep the commentary to a minimum.

  • Open Powerpoint file in Safari on Mac OS X (as in iOS)

In iOS (iPad/iPhone), i can open hyperlinked Powerpoint files (.ppt) in a new tab in Safari.
Is it possible to imitate this behavior in Mac OS X?

    any ideas from anyone?

  • PowerPoint Movie does not load in Safari on iPad

I borrowed a friend's iPad to learn how to use it. It was gift she received a few months ago from her family. So, it is this year's model.
Upon doing so, I thought I would check one of my website's that has PowerPoint movies on them. I chose Safari as the browser.
I found out that the two movies on my website would not load. They load perfectly well when I am using desktop computers including other platforms than the iMac or MacBook. My MacBook has Mavericks and the two pages load. Ditto from my iMac using Mountain Lion.
The website is constructed using the latest version of iWeb.
I wish to know why the iPad using Safari does not load the two movies.
Here are the URLs for each page:

    I would appreciate assistance.
    Thank you!

Well evidently she was born in New Orleans, but raised in
Oakland. So, yes I would say the content is loading. Don't know
what to tell you. What version of Safari are you using? What
version of the Flash plugin is installed? Can you directly enter
the url and have the page open?
There appears to be nothing wrong with your loadMovieNum
code. Perhaps there is something wrong with your preloader code?
A guide layer is just that, a guide layer, and it will not be
published. The best way to do it depends upon how you are making
this. You can simply put a black square behind the text. Or if you
are using dynamic text boxes you can turn the background property
on and set the back ground color. Or if you are using buttons just
go to the hit area and add a some drawing.

  • I downloaded updates for "Office for Mac" a few days ago and it won't finish.  It keeps saying I have to close Safari, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint and I don't have any of these open.  Can anybody help me?

    Hi Anne,
Did you do this through one of the Office app updates, or did you download it directly from the Microsoft website?
Whichever way you tried it, I would try it the opposite way this time, although simply repeating what you did before may also work.

  • Why Can't AOL Mail or Safari Open PowerPoint Attachment (.pps) ?

I went to Microsoft but they offer nothing for OSX

    Hi akwehl,
If you don't have MS Office, and if you can boot (dual booting machine) into OS9 (not Classic under OSX), I've seen online that you may be able to download MicroSoft's free PowerPoint Viewer to view them.
If not, you can most likely be able to use OSX and open them in the free NeoOffice which should open them. You can find it at NeoOffice.
    hope that helps some,

  • White Lines Across Powerpoint files converted to PDF

I have a number of PDF files that were created from Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on a Windows PC. The Preview inspector says they were created with Acrobat Distiller 8.2.2. Until recently, these PDFs looked 100% correct when viewed in Preview or Safari. Now, though, they have horizontal white lines across the pages. There are 6 white lines on each page, evenly spaced, each about 1 pixel in height. They stay at 1 pixel in height even when I zoom in/out on the document. At some zoom levels (100% being one of them), the area above and below some lines will become misaligned. When viewed with Adobe Reader 9, the lines are not there but the misalignment is (though it is not exactly the same as in Preview). Unfortunately, I can't say when this started happening other than it was fine in September (2010) and isn't this afternoon (Nov 22, 2010). It happens on a coworker's Macbook Pro as well as my iMac so it is not something unique to my Mac.
Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas as to how to fix it?

Hi, I am having this problem also on my iMac. Some of the images have the lines and some of them don't. When the PDFs are printed, the lines don't show. My problem is that these PDFs will be linked to on a website for the clients to print, and they will seem them with the lines. They are pretty unsightly, and my boss has put this into my lap to figure out, since I am the designer. Did you ever find an answer for this? I don't know where else to turn, since this company is insisting on using Pages, rather than something like InDesign.
