Office '08 . Since installing Snow Leopard I cannot save my work in Powerpoint. I get a message that the file has been moved. What is going on?

Well, I am not quite sure what that means but there was a background behind the words and also tried a picture and when the background was deleted it saved it. This was a background provided. Will try putting the background back in after the information is in place and see what happened.
    thanks Janet

  • Leopard 10.5.2 Update and Powerpoint 2008 performance

Anyone having performace problems with Powerpoint 2008 under 10.5.2?
I updated to 10.5.2 with no problems (that I know of) and everything seems to work fine except it now takes 10-15 seconds to open Powerpoint 2008 from the time that is displays the intro splash for Powerpoint. There is no performance problem with either Word or Excel - they open as fast as before 10.5.2. I'm wondering if it was something in the update or perhaps the subsequent Leopard Graphics update.
    Any ideas or help??

Just an update, but no solution - I decided to try a reinstall of Office 2008 to see if that fixed the problem. I even went as far as restarting between deleting the old install and beginning the new one. I also did a custom install and chose not to install Microsoft fonts, since they are already installed and I wanted to make sure I did not create any duplicate font problems.
Result was the same performance problem when starting up Powerpoint. What makes it really frustrating is that I'm not even opening an existing presentation. I'm just starting the program and waiting for a blank, untitled presentation.
    Hopefully we'll hear something soon...

  • HT1444 If i download the new OS X Mountain Lion to my Macbook Pro that has Snow Leopard, will i lose my apps and downloads (such as: Microsoft word, powerpoint, excel, oovoo, skype) and will i lose all of my pictures/documents and information?

If i download the new OS X Mountain Lion to my Macbook Pro that has Snow Leopard, will i lose my apps and downloads (such as: Microsoft word, powerpoint, excel, oovoo, skype) and will i lose all of my pictures/documents and information?

I should just change the OS and leave all your apps and data alone.  That said, if any of your apps are old and use Rosetta (ppc apps), they won't run under Mountain Lion.
Make sure you take a good Time Machine or Clone backup before you convert.
You can check compatibility of your apps here:

  • Leopard 10.5.1 and Powerpoint

I'm noticing that wheras in Tiger I could preview design templates in powerpoint, in Leopard I can't seem to do that. They show as generic icons. I can see presentations in preview, but not the individual design templates. Anyone notice this?

I noticed the same thing today. Microsoft PowerPoint templates also do not show in the Finder except as a generic icon in the column view preview pane, in cover flow, or in quick look. It is not very satisfactory, but the workaround we are using is to view the thumbnail in PowerPoint at the bottom of the Formatting Palette.
The missing preview for this file type is a regression from Tiger.

  • About to update to Snow Leopard from Leopard, however, I was told that I will lose access to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.).

About to update to Snow Leopard from Leopard, however, I was told that I will lose access to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.).  First, is this true?  Second, how have others addressed this lost (i.e. other software programs)?  The cheaper the software package the better with FREE being the ideal.

If you install Snow Leopard, make sure during the install to open the Optional install items. You must turn Rosetta on, which is not installed by default (necessary to run older PowerPC apps such as Office 2004). If you miss the installation of Rosetta, it can still be installed after the fact a couple of ways.

  • Cannot open Microsoft Documents or Powerpoint in Snow Leopard

I just installed Snow Leopard. I used to be able to open Microsoft Word Documents in Pages 08 and Powerpoints in Keynotes 08, but now I cannot. I don't know why and I need to fix this for my classes.
    Can anyone help???
    thanks.

The offending fonts are arial, Monotype Corsiva,Times New Roman. Those fonts do not cause a problem on my wife's or my laptop but we do not have 10.6 on the laptops (OS 10.5.8), the problem is with our home comp. with 10.6. I'm glad the the problem has been solved, my wife was ready to shoot me for upgrading. BTW there are also font issues with PowerPoint and Keynotes. I suspect that if I change fonts those problems will be resolved. I haven't had a chance to try it out though.

  • MS Powerpoint disappeared after Leopard

When we installed Leopard on y son's month old MacBook (white), PowerPoint disappeared from the Dock and we could not find it on the hard drive. Ideas?

Ask your son what he did.
Maybe he run the Office Uninstaller by mistake.
Or maybe he simply dragged the Office applications off the Dock.
If the latter, you can simply restore the Powerpoint application from the Microsoft Office folder inside the Applications folder by dragging it back to the Dock. Dock icons are just shortcuts.

  • Powerpoint spinning ball with change from Tiger to Snow Leopard

I recently replaced my G4s with a MacMini and a MacBook Pro. My Microsoft Office 2004 (all updates installed) works just fine in Word and Excel, but to attempt to open PowerPoint on either machine results in a spinning ball and freezing the entire computer.
I have done everything that the Microsoft website suggests, and nothing changes. Is this a nefarious plot by Microsoft to force me to buy Office 2011, or is there something else I can do to make this work. Help!

Uninstall Off '04 and reinstall it.

  • Macbook Pro video issue with multiple Monitors and Powerpoint 2011

    Hello all,
I have a major issue that is perplexing me. Whenever I hook up a second monitor or projector to my Macbook Pro 15" Early 2010 and launch a Powerpoint slideshow I lose video on both systems immediately and can only recover with a reboot. This is fully reproducable. It doesn't matter if I'm using the mini Display Port to DVI or VGA adapter, same results. Same results with monitors, TVs, or external projectors. I only experience this issue in MS Powerpoint 2011, no other applications. I have 8GB of Ram and a 2.66GHZ i7. It doesn't matter what my resolution is set to, same issue. I will post two error reports below for additional details.
    Thank you for the help,
    Eric

I "fixed" it, I did a fresh install and restore and that power point issue is gone.  It works now without crashing but I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.4 now instead of 10.6.7.  I'm going to update and see what happens.

  • My macbook is loaded with microsoft work and every time I try and open the program I get an error reading and it will not open.  Powerpoint and the other applications still respond!

my macbook is loaded with microsoft word for macs and every time I try and open the program I get an error reading and it will not open. This is what it says:
The application Microsof Word quit eunexpectedly.  Powerpoint and the other applications still respond!

    The joys of Microsoft!
Maybe the preferences file is corrupted.  You should be able to find the Word preferences file in the folder:
    your user name/Library/Preferences
    Its name is com.microsoft.Word.plist
I suggest you drag this another folder and try Word again.
If that doesn't work then you might find clearing the cache files will fix the problem.  You can do this manually but I never bother. Instead I use a program like Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner (shareware) or Onyx (free). These programs do lots of other maintenance jobs so it's worth having at least one of them.

  • My imac was running snow leopard and was upgraded to Mt. Lion. My Microsoft Office for Mac now will not open.  SO since my Office was 2004, I just purchased Office for Mac 2011.  Do I delete the icons before loading Office 2011 OR after I load 2011?

Upgraded my Imac to Mt. Lion and now the Microsoft Office icons will not open WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, or ENTOURAGE.  I just pruchased on Ebay
OFFICE 2011 since my old version was 2004.  DO I REMOVE THE OLD ICONS BEFORE LOADING OFFICE 2011 RO AFTER I LOAD IT???
    THANKS, DR PEPPERMINT

Office 2011 will install in a separate folder. But do not install Office 2011 until you remove Office 2004. It comes with its own uninstalled located in the MS Office folder. Only use the uninstaller to get rid of it. Then install Office 2011.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Keynote and Snow Leopard

Installed Snow Leopard and now Keynote cannot open powerpoint presentations -- just hangs and then crashes. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

Which version of Keynote are you using, and was the PowerPoint created on a PC with the latest version of Office or Office 2008?
I've just tried Keynote 5.0.2 with a PowerPoint made using 2003 on a PC without a problem.

  • Bluetooth remote freezing with PowerPoint on MacBook Pro while idling

I am experiencing problems with bluetooth remote controls (3 different brands) freezing up when used with MS PowerPoint on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (all updated). It is intermittent in nature and appears to be related to idling when giving presentations. It can freeze as quickly as within one minute to not freezing until 30-40 minutes later. This may not be a remote control issue as the arrow keys on the keyboard will not advance or backup the PowerPoint slides as well. However, when using my iMac computer without the remote, I have not observed the freezing (although, I may not have waited long enough since the nature is intermittent and variable in time).
When frozen, the mouse centered on the slide with a touchpad click awakes the computer to work properly (quick, but not ideal solution). However, when two screens are utilized (LCD projector or another monitor) via VGA connecion in "Presenter View," the touchpad click does NOT awake the computer, regardless of where the arrow is placed on screen. During this situation, the "presented slide" can be advanced by clicking the forward and backward arrows below this "subwindow" of "Presenter View," and even clicking on the image itself will advance it forward (but not backward). When this happens, the keyboard arrows do not work in advancing or backing up the slide sequence.
When in this frozen mode with a LCD or 2nd monitor, the only way I have found to get it working again, is to "Exit Show" and pulling down the "Slide Show" tab and selecting "Play from Current Slide." This takes me back to the slide where the computer froze and allows the bluetooth remote to start working again (obviously not an optimal solution, as the software should not disengage). Again, it appears if I keep changing to another slide within a few seconds to a few minutes, the PowerPoint does not freeze up. However, it is intermittent and variable as to the length of time before it freezes up.
NOTE: I have run these same PowerPoints, with the same remote controls, without any problem for hundreds of hours over the past 3 years. I have updated MS Office 2011, from 2008, last fall and have also run these same items without problems for about 40 hours. I have run Mac "Disk Utility" and just installed a MS Office "Update" released yesterday, which has not corrected the issue as well. Is this issue a MicroSoft problem?
Bless whoever who has an answer to this complex situation. Thank you!

I am having the same problem with a minister's MacBook Pro at my church.  It started about 2-3 weeks ago.  We at first thought it was a remote issue and found out that it is not.  He is running a vitually new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 OS.  He has Microsoft Office 2011.  He has only had the computer since December.  He runs powerpoint presentations all the time.  He never had a problem until about 2 1/2 weeks ago.  When he runs powerpoint in Presenter Veiw it would freeze up on him.  You can still move the cursor over to the arrows on the presenter view slide windo and phisically click the mouse on the arrows to move forward or backward but none of keys on the keyboard work at all.  It won't even let you escape.  You have to move the cursor over the "Exit Show" button and click there.  We thought that it might be just a presenter veiw issue so we tried running it in "Mirror Mode" and that seemed to work for a while but now we are having the same freezing problems.
We have taken the laptop to the Genius Bar and talked to the guys there and they did not tell us anything that helped us.  They found this thread that you all started with our same problem.  It looks like all of us had it happen at the same time.  I find that very interesting.  My minister said that he had not run any updates so we don't think that was the issue.
I have tried uninstalling Office completely and reinstalling it with all the updates and that did not help.  I was thinking that I have a copy of Office 2008 here in the office and I was going to uninstall 2011 and install 2008 but one of you said you were having the same issue with 2008.  Maybe I can uninstall 2011 and reinstall it without doing any updates and see if that does anything.  We are very baffled and can't seem to get an answer about any of this from Mac or Microsoft.  All we get is one blaming the other.
Let us know if this is helpfull or if you have any luck.

  • FCP7 Crashes all the time in Snow Leopard

I upgraded to SL a few days after the release and since then, FCP7 crashes at irregular intervals.
For example, it first showed up whenever I saved a project, it would save and then immediately crash.
Now, I am exporting a number of projects to quicktime movies and at no set interval, it ill just crash and give me the option to send a report. It generally happens at the start of the export.
I also tried a complete reinstall of the suite, but it hasn't changed anything. I also tried trashing the plist file from preferences.
I saw in another post that only down to Thread 0 of the report was needed, so here is mine.

I've also been experiencing crashes in several applications since installing Snow Leopard. I had no problems the first day or two after installing, but starting today I've been experiencing frequent crashes in Mail, Safari, Grab, MS Powerpoint and perhaps others. I reinstalled the OS from the Snow Leopard disk but the crashes persist. I verified disk permissions and obtained the following warning:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
