Powerpoint slides, FCE and DVD

Hi all. I'm starting a project to edit footage of a speaker's keynote speech and PowerPoint presentation slides. I'll be using FCE for the edits and iDVD for the final production to DVD. I'll be working from AVI files provided for me, as well as the original PowerPoint slides.
We're planning on including crossfades to the PowerPoint slides the speaker used in his presentation. For this, I'm planning on using JPGs of each slide; these will be exported from PowerPoint.
The AVIs aren't a problem. My main concern are the PowerPoint slides and how they might appear later on DVD.
If anyone has had experience with this type of project before using FCE, I'd appreciate any special cautions/settings/lessons learned you might be willing to share before I get started.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Tom.
I suspected as much with the PowerPoints; which is why I posed the question before getting started.
I agree with the assessment about LiveType. Problem is, it would be prohibitive to re-create into LiveType all the PowerPoint slides throughout a 2-hour forum. To the speaker's credit, he doesn't use a lot of text. But, there are still a lot of slides, nonetheless...
I'll do some test runs with different formats before going full out with the project. Thinking of maybe using a third-party app to convert the PowerPoints to Flash for use with FCE. I've used that approach with good results on web-based productions. But I'll need to test it for DVD output. Anyone have any thoughts about that?
Tom, your caution about the AVIs... they're at 29.97 letterbox. What other guidance would you say about format?
Thanks again in advance.

  • IDVD slide shows and DVD ROM contents?

No problem making slide shows, but iDVD will not copy ALL of the hi-res pics, seems to have a mind of its own and drops short. ie. 3 slide shows of 100 pics each it will copy 87, 55, 85 hi-res pics only. 5 slide shows of 100 each it will copy 80, 52, 85, 88, 90 hi-res pics only. Has anybody got any ideas please.

    George,
iDVD isn't always happy about working with lots of multi-megapixel images and can't use all the quality. See iDVD 6.0 Help-Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for information on recommended sizes. Things will go a lot faster with the smaller images mentioned in that help file.
You can always manually add content to the DVD-ROM area. See iDVD 6.0 Help - Adding files to the DVD-ROM portion of a disc at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/74.html
My recommendation: use 720x540 images for the slideshow and manually add the high res images to the DVD-ROM area.

  • FCE and DVD burning

    Hi,
I'm using FCE HD and would like to know what the best DVD software for burning movies edited in HD would be?

Toast 9 is quirky - no doubt. There are a few simple tricks though that make it a pretty powerful and usable program. It's encoder isn't the best in the world, but it doesn't do a terrible job either. I've used it to burn everything from CDs to Blu-ray discs and with enough experience I avoid most of the pitfalls.

  • I would like to create a slide show and then burn to a DVD.  I may be interested in adding music.  Should I use iPhone, iMovie or a simple Powerpoint?

I am going to be creating a slide show and then burning it to a couple of DVDs.  I have used PPT in the past for simple slide shows for speaking engagements, but I am interested in adding music to this slide show.  What is the best/easiest application to use?  iMovie, iPhoto or Powerpoint?
    Thanks!
    Mike

burning it to a couple of DVDs
Is it your intention to create video DVDS that can be played on TV sets via DVD players?  If so you'll need a video DVD authoring application like iDVD.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • I am new to iTunes. How do I transfer files of Powerpoint slides into iTunes from PC and then into my iPad for use at a meeting

I am new to iTunes and the iOS in general, having just migrated from Android devices. Please advise as to how I can easily transfer files of Powerpoint slides in documents on my PC into iTunes, so that I can use Adobe or other app to get them into my iPAD to be able to use them at a conference. Thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I have had an iTunes account for a while, but never really taken the time to learn to use it.  Now I have two computers, with two different versions of iTunes, with content on one that I want to transfer to the other.  Or I'd like to directly access the older libarary from the new computer.
There are a number of ways you might achieve this. The following article(s) may help you.
Moving your iTunes library to a new computer
Alternatively you might just use home sharing to share the libraries.
Plus I have some videos and audio CD's that I have never imported, and would like to bring them into iTunes and store on an external hard drive to keep from loading up my computer.  I have no idea how to accomplish all of this, and cannot find clear instructions on the website.  Is there a screen where I can access written step-by-step instructions?  I don't have the time or patience to play around and do it by trail and error.  Thanks.
If you place a CD into the CD drive, iTunes will ask you if you want to import it.
If you want iTunes to store content on an external drive, you need to tell it to do so, which you do at iTunes preferences > Advanced.

  • Captivate 7 Publishing Powerpoint slides and crashing

I have recently updated Captivate 7 on my mac using the patch to make it work with Mavericks. All appears fine, however I have a project that has some powerpoint slides in it. When Captivate previews the content it locks up and freezes on any of these slides. Then if I publish the file out and load to our LMS it simply exits when it reaches the same point.
I must admit that I did not have Captivate 7 when I first created this file so its new to 7. I also built it on a Windows build. Is this something to do with the way the Windows version of Captivate 6 handles PowerPoint that the Mac cannot handle?
If anyone can offer any advice as I have a really complex build on one of these and I would hate to have to start the powerpoint elements again.
    James

To my knowlede this cannot be done.  Master Slides are used to provide mostly static elements that are reused across other slides (like backgrounds or foregrounds).

  • I have iMovie 2011 and I imported PowerPoint slides with a soundtrack. Now I want to get rid of a small clip but it's not letting me do that.

I have iMovie 2011 and I imported PowerPoint slides with a soundtrack. Now I want to delete a small highlighted clip and it won't let me no matter what I do! Rosemary

First off....do NOT install MacKeeper!  It creates more problems than it prevents, and is a royal pain to get rid of once you realize this.
What I would do, since it sounds like you don't want to reorganize your email filing by the use of Smart Mailboxes, is to simply use the search box at the top of the Mail window to find only the emails you want to delete....then select them all and delete them.  For example, if you wanted to delete all of the emails from [email protected], you would type that into your search box, which will filter your inbox to only show you emails from [email protected]  Then Select All, and delete them.  You haven't deleted any others....only those from that person.
Then clear the search box to see the rest of your emails again.
Repeat this process to delete emails from other senders you no longer need.
(Once you've selected them all, by the way, you can control-click one if you need to save it).

I have turned PowerPoint slides into a PDF and now want to insert this into a docx packet.  I can't do this.  Help.

    Hi leastoners,
If you're trying to insert a file into a Word document, your best bet is to check the Word online Help. (What you describe sounds like a function of Word, not of Acrobat). I did a quick search and came up with this: Add a PDF to a document - Word. But I'm not sure that's what you're looking for.
If I misunderstood your request, please let me know and we can take it from there.
    Best,

  • When I copy and paste a powerpoint slide into Captivate the slide is blurry how do I fix that

When I copy and paste a powerpoint slide into Captivate the slide is blurry how do I fix that

Have you tried importing it with standard workflow instead of coyping and pasting.
Is the resolution of your powerpoint presentation and Captivate Project same, make sure it is same, else, it would rescale it to fit on the sldie, rescaling might detoriate the quality.
    Thanks,

Why is it taken so long and seem to stop but the activity status goes up ever so slowley???? Im using an iMac  7,1   2.4 GHz with 6GB of memory running 10.8.2 what am I doing wrong???

Rendering will take a very long time  - I once needed 6 hours for a shorter high definition movie with plenty of effects.
What theme are you using and what settings?
The "places" theme needs a good network connection.
And the finished movie will need plenty of disk space.
And the finished movie will need plenty of disk space. Have you checked the available  space on your disk?
What exactly happens when Aperture fails to render the movie? Are there any diagnostics, error messages in the console window, that relate to Aperture? Does Aperture alway stop at the same image or video clip?
if all fails, you could render your slideshow in two parts and combine the two videos on your DVD.

  • Use FMS & Actionscript to Stream Audio/Video and control (powerpoint) slides

    Hi there,
My compnay provides webcasting services to numerous clients, and we currently use Windows Media Encoder as our base software for these projects.
However, I'm interested in switching to Flash Media Server, but need to figure out one issue and how to implement it in such a way like how we are currently using Windows Media Encoder.
We need a way to stream out a live audio/video feed AND have a way to control a presenter's POWERPOINT slides and have them advance by our command when streaming live.
Basically, the way we do it is we will stream out audio/video from WME and also use the encoder's SCRIPTING functions to send out a "url"  from the encoder to the actual page in which the viewer is watching the live embedded stream.  On that page is an embeded/internal frame which we can specify (using the id/name) that the url gets loaded, and this actually advances the slides (or more so pulls up a pre-created html page of the next slide in the person's powerpoint, which is actually a screenshot or exported image of that slide and embedded within a specific HTML file and hosted on the same server as the embedded player/html file)
Would there be a way to send out this same type of script using FMS?   I've been playing around with it and notice the interface itself does not have a built in scripting function like Windows Media Encoder does. However, I did read somewhere that it supports ActionScript... but I have no clue how to implement this feature.
I am just curious how it might be able to go about doing this?  Is there a way to use an [action]script with FMS and have it send out a URL to a specific frameset embedded on the same page as the Flash Media Encoder Playback?
Hopefully this make sense and that someone can point me in the right direction.  Switching to FMS over Windows Media Encoder is the way I would love to go, just need to figure out how this could be done.
Would a better method be converting the powerpoint slides to a swf or flv file, embedding that file within the same page as the FMS playback, and somehow using a script to "advance" the frames/slides/scenes within that file?
I also heard something about Flash "Shared Objects" and how this could be a way of controlling a swf file remotely.....
Could anyone give me some advice and know a method that I could use to achieve this type of implementation?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!   Thanks!

FMS (the interactive version, FMIS) has complete scripting support.
What you want to do can be done with FMS, and there are a lot of ways you can approach it. Converting to .swf can be helpful, as it means you have a single resource to load rather than a bunch of individual slide images (the flashplayer can load .swf, jpg, gif, png). Rather than embedding, I'd opt to make it an external resource and load it at runtime... that would keep the player application reusable.
To get an idea of how to use server side actionscript, see the getting started portion of the FMS 3.5 dev docs
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_Deving/
Then, see the SSAS docs for the following classes in particular:
    The Client class for Client.call()
    The Stream class for Stream.send()
    The Shared object class
    The Application class for BroadcastMsg()
The docs give some general overview for the usage of each. The best choice really depends on your deployment architecture and scalability requirements.

  • Display comments during slide show and/or DVD

This is a pre-sales question; I'm wanting an application to organize decades of family photos that will all be entered with location and comment about the photo since we were good about writing that on the back of the photos and slides.  Now, the more critical part, I'd like those comments to be displayed while viewing a slide show, or more importantly, if I write out a slide show to DVD.  On screen is not so important as I can always look at the comments manaully if I want but I want to create DVD's to send to family so they'll want to see the commands about each pic on screen.  I think Elements has all the organization features I need, just wondering if when you use it to create a photo dvd, the comments can be made visible as the dvd is viewed.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
In Photoshop Elements you can  create slideshows which can be exported as Videos or PDFs....
Captions can also be doiplayed with each slide....
I would suggest you to try trial version of PSE8 and decide if it fulfil your requirements.... It also facilitate to place your Photographs on Map and then locate througha Map view... Try it out before buying....
