Powerpoint sluggish
Let me start by saying that I am a "switcher" and overall very happy that I made the move.
I give a lot of Powerpoint presentations at work and converted a few of them from Windoze PP to Mac PP. This morning I gave a lecture and it took over 5 min (I timed it) to open a 70MB file on my MacPro 2.33GHz C2D. I tried to open the same file on my MacPro 3GHz with 5GB of RAM and it took 3min and 45sec.
Is this sluggishness due to Rosetta emulation? Never-the-less, I was surprised and disapointed that the process took so long. My 3y/o IBM T41 with 2GB of RAM opens the same file in less than 1min.
Let me reiterate that I love OSX and have no desire to revert back to Windoze but is there anything that I might be doing wrong? Any tips to enhance performance? It is frustrating to have to switch between talks midstream and take so long to open the presentation.

Yes... Powerpoint is painful using Rosetta, and also painful just in itself even on PowerPC machines. I average 1 crash of PPT per use on my MacBook Pro, as does my fiance using it on her Powerbook.
It's just doesn't run great on Apple. I'm hoping Office 2007 will solve the issues.

You can use Keynote, which I have found great. Powerpoint does have a few better features, but Keynote doesn't crash and works super fast.
You can also try OpenOffice or NeoOffice

I have a 2.53 Ghz MacBook Pro (mid-2009) that has been getting increasingly sluggish since installing Lion. I get frequent spinning beachballs in Safari, MS Outlook, Powerpoint. From the login screem, once I select my user icon, it takes 15-20 seconds for the password dialog to appear. Activity Monitor shows no runaway processes, CPU utilization remains low and I have close to a gig (out of 4) of free memory. I have close to 30Gb free disk. S.M.A.R.T. shows no disk problemns. Things I've tried:
Repair permissions

Starting in safe mode
Create a new user
CleanMyMac
Reset PRAM
Reset SMC
Reinstall MS Office
Reinstall Lion

My Macbook and Macbook pro are both sluggish this week
Is anyone using a macbook pro or older macbook with mobilme having these computers suddenly working very sluggishly. what might be worng. ( Mail, address book, even the web is extremely slow suddenly) Anyone have any ideas for me. What should I do?
My free RAM has been bottoming out the last 3 days. It is at 32 MB right now with just iTunes and Safari open. 1 month ago I used to have about 3 powerpoint slides, 4 or 5 web pages up, and itunes running with no problems. In the last 3 days I've got the Low Memory window and it made me close out of my programs again and again and again. I've got the Lion software on my Macbook with 4 GB RAM. Pretty mad about the situation too, can anyone help?

Computer just randomly shuts down, is sluggish
Hi all,
Been having a problem with my HP Pavillion 774e (runs Windows XP) for the past month or so now. . .it just shuts down at the most random times. Typically I will start the machine, get going on the internet, and then foom. . .it just shuts off and restarts itself. There are no error messages when this happens. It also seems very sluggish when I start it; it doesn't have the typical whir that it usually has; it's just slower and seems to catch and click a lot more than usual. Sometimes when it restarts, it seems like it's trying to catch, like an engine that you are trying to start with a key, clicking and buzzing over and over.
I've tried a number of things to try to get it to not do this. I've opened up the computer, and cleaned it out thoroughly, I've run a malware scan, virus scan, run my copy of AVG PC Tuneup and cleaned things up, so I'm fairly certain it's not a virus/malware. I've also set the computer to not shut down on system failure in the control panel, and it doesn't help. I just can't figure it out. I've looked on many different forums for advice on what to do and I've seen advice about replacing motherboards, the power supply, etc.
I've also thought about doing a system restore (it seems to have begun when I had a windows update not install properly), but I'm concerned because if I go back that far, it would be before I ran the AVG PC Tuneup and downloaded a newer version of AVG 2012 (not sure if that would affect things, but it's why I'm concerned). I also worry because the thing doesn't stay on long enough to do anything; I just started it again and it shuts down in about two minutes. Safe mode also doesn't seem to help; it shuts down in there too.
Any advice on what to do with this machine? I don't want to junk it; it worked OK until just recently. But now, it's completely unreliable. By the way, I'm not an online gamer at all; I just want to use this thing for simple wordprocessing, powerpoints, and internet surfing.seems like your power supply has started to show signs of it failing. Seeing that your computer is an older hp computer, its about time for something to show signs of getting wore out.

Slow powerpoint on MacBook pro
I have a new 2 GHz 2 MB macbook pro with all updates (Office and Mac). I usually use keynote, but have to use PPT for a special talk. It is painfully slow. Typing has about a half second delay between keystrokes and scrolling to the next slide takes about 5 seconds. Help! I have to give a big presentation on Monday!

quigleyMicrosoft PowerPoint is a PPC application, and thus is running in Rosetta - so it's typically going to be a little sluggish - certainly vis-a-vis any like-minded native applications you use. But I just gave PowerPoint a test-drive on my machine, and it's humming along quite nicely.
My best advice is to save your work and reboot. Work in PowerPoint on a stand-alone basis, and make sure you don't have any CPU sucking PPC apps that launch at start-up and run in the background or otherwise use a host of non-native applications while doing your presentation. -
Acrobat XI very sluggish on Yoga 3 Pro
I have noticed that Adobe Acrobat XI is very sluggish on the Yoga 3 Pro. Specifically laggy when zooming in and out, panning, scrolling, and full screen. This is especially apparent with full screen and quite annoying in tablet mode. However, using the Microsoft Reader app with the same PDF files does NOT experience this lag.
What I then discovered is that this has something to do with the Core M processor and it getting its power limited. If you change the power plan in OneKey Optimizer to High Performance (from Balanced, for example), Acrobat all of a sudden becomes quite snappy.
When in tablet mode, if you simply want to read a PDF file (and use Acrobat), you do not need "high performance", so to extend the unfortunately bad battery life of the Yoga 3 Pro, you would want to put it in Balanced or Power Saver -- this should still be sufficient to read PDF files, but it is not the case with Acrobat XI unfortunately.
I'm not sure which specific CPU limiting feature of the power plan is causing this issue in Acrobat, but I thought I would post this because I couldn't find anything on the internet on this issue.

I'm trying to save my powerpoint format shape text options for shadow text, I see there are presets, but I am wondering would I be able to save a custom setting as a reset?

Lync and Office 2013 Home and Business 'Present PowerPoint' not working
Hello All,
We have an Exchange online E1 plan that includes Lync, that we have been using without problems for the last year or so.
The 'Present PowerPoint' functionality of Lync is very useful, and again it has been working without fault until now. However, for one user who we have upgraded to Office 2013 Home and Business (from Office 2010), it no longer works when she clicks on
present, select PowerPoint and select a .pptx file. She gets the following error message...
'the presentatio.ppx couldn't be converted for presentation because Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is not installed on this computer. Please install VBA and try again.'
The thing is it seems that Visual Basic for Applications is installed as a part of the Lync Basic Install. I re-installed Lync just in case, and when I clicked customize I ensured that Visual Basic for Applications was checked to install as run from the
computer.
In searching online I can see plenty of other people suggesting with Office 2010 to repair the Office install, and select customize and make sure the Visual Basic for Applications is checked to install too. However, with Office 2013 Home and Business
you don't get this option - it seems all or nothing. I have tried repairing both installs, re-installing etc with no luck
So is it that Office 2013 Home and Business incompatible with Lync or can anyone help or throw some ideas at me?

The suggestion since there is not direct solution as of today would be either roll back the office 2010 since we know this work
On upgrade to Office 2013 Pro use the full Lync Client

Sluggish Performance & Audio Problems in Lenovo T520
I have experienced strange problems with my Lenovo T520 (specifications: i7, 6GB RAM, I can post detailed configuration). The problems are:
The audio quality is noisy. What I find strange is the audio quality for the same song worsens when play in VLC media player (more noise) v/s when played in Windows Media Player
The performance is sluggish and the system freezes when moved. What I mean is if I am watching a movie and lift the laptop from one place to another. The movie freezes while moving & audio stops. Once stable again the video and audio synch up again
Trackpad unresponsive: The trackpad get unresponsive at times, but the Trackpoint is working fine.
Could you post a solution to any of the problems?For the sluggishness....
(1) Make sure the power cord is plugged in. I know...sounds dumb, but I had the same problem with my new T520 and I saw a thread on here stating that Lenovo thought it would be a great idea to make your new T-Series laptop run slow when on battery.
(2) Closely inspect the "Power Manager" profile you're using. I noticed that even the "Maximum Performance" (or whatever it's called) profile was set to NOT best use the CPU. In Power Manager, click "Advanced" at the top to go from "Basic mode" to "Advanced mode", then click the profile you want to use from the vertical list on the far left. Then on the right side, expand the first drop-down category called "Performance" or something like that. Now there will be two columns under that category...battery on the left and AC power on the right. On the AC power column set the drop-down box to the "Maximum Turbo" setting.

Does iWork come with a form of powerpoint presentation compatible with Microsoft Office Powerpoint?
I recently bought a MacBook Pro and need to purchase iWork or Microsoft Office. Does iWork come with a form of powerpoint presentation? If so, is it easy to use and compatible with Microsoft Office presentation software? The latter question is extremely important as we use Microsoft Office primarily at the college.
Yes, Keynote is iWork's PowerPoint equivalent. You can save as a PowerPoint file as well. Very easy to use IMO.

Keynote and/or Powerpoint content in Final Cut Pro
Hope this is not a stupid question but if it is please excuse me, I'm rather new to FCP.
My colleague wants to produce some webcasts of his business presentations.
Normally he uses Powerpoint to illustrate his talks.
Is it possible to somehow take these visuals and incorporate them into the webcasts?
The idea is to show him speaking and have the graphics appearing in the background and/or alongside him.
I'm prepared for the idea of shooting him on a green screen to produce a matte.
(any tutorials on green screen and FCP7 out there ???)
My main concern though is how I can get from Powerpoint / Keynote to a format that is readable by FCP7.
Help and suggestions would be most welcome.
ThanksYou're kind of going in an odd little circle. You really need to be looking as producing your webinar, rather than dealing with FCP. There's plenty of ways to incorporate a PP or Keynote presentation into a webinar. That's what most of the webinar sites or software do. They'll also let you incorporate live video streams. Do a live composite (green screen) is something separate. You'd deal with FCP and graphics as a different issue, and only if you were rolling in a precut video stream. And yes, you can export graphics from Keynote, though I don't remember about PP, I've stayed away from it for the past couple of years. But you'd want to make sure those slide pages were setup for your video frame, and generally they're not, at least not to begin with.

Ipad2 is sluggish after iOS 8 upgrade
Since downloading ios8 my iPad2 has become very sluggish, cell service drops out and only a hard reboot will restore, some of my apps icons only show up as an icon framework, exchange based email seems to be getting erased and has to reload ( same on iPhone 5). When the next patch coming out please, can't happen soon enough. My iPad2 is almost unusable.
This is just a user to user forum. We don't know when or if there will be an update (although an eventual update is pretty much inevitable)
You can try a few things.
Reset your iPad
Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot. No data will be lost.
Force close any extra apps.
Double tap the home button. When you see the app previews on the screen scroll sideways if needed to get the preview in question on the screen. Flick that preview up and off the screen to close the app. Single tap the home button or home screen preview to exit the mode.
You can also look into restoring your iPad. Do a backup, restore it to factory defaults then restore your iPad from that backup. Might help.
Beyond that you can send Apple feedback and let them know there are issues.

White Lines Across Powerpoint files converted to PDF
I have a number of PDF files that were created from Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on a Windows PC. The Preview inspector says they were created with Acrobat Distiller 8.2.2. Until recently, these PDFs looked 100% correct when viewed in Preview or Safari. Now, though, they have horizontal white lines across the pages. There are 6 white lines on each page, evenly spaced, each about 1 pixel in height. They stay at 1 pixel in height even when I zoom in/out on the document. At some zoom levels (100% being one of them), the area above and below some lines will become misaligned. When viewed with Adobe Reader 9, the lines are not there but the misalignment is (though it is not exactly the same as in Preview). Unfortunately, I can't say when this started happening other than it was fine in September (2010) and isn't this afternoon (Nov 22, 2010). It happens on a coworker's Macbook Pro as well as my iMac so it is not something unique to my Mac.

When the PDFs are printed, the lines don't show. My problem is that these PDFs will be linked to on a website for the clients to print, and they will seem them with the lines. They are pretty unsightly, and my boss has put this into my lap to figure out, since I am the designer. Did you ever find an answer for this? I don't know where else to turn, since this company is insisting on using Pages, rather than something like InDesign.

Acrobat XI Very Sluggish After Update Ver. 11.0.09
After ver. 11.0.09 updated my Acrobat Pro XI, the program operates very sluggishly. In a multi-page PDF, there is a several seconds lag when scrolling through pages. And as one page changes to the next, there is always a "ghost" remnant of the page bottom before the next page appears. Also, when I have the thumbnails viewer open on the left and highlight a new page, there is a longish delay of several seconds before the full view of the page opens up. And sometimes when opening Acrobat XI, the entire viewing area is just white (although some of the menu bars is visible) for several seconds before the program interface fills out. All in all, with the update to ver. 11.0.09, my Acrobat XI has become a lot slower and downright slow. None of this existed before the update 11.0.09. (I actually uninstalled the Acrobat XI program and reinstalled to see if the program's function would improve, but no such luck.) Is there any way to fix the slowness of the program or restore it to its efficient operation level before ver. 11.0.09?
So, just for everyone's FYI: if you weren't having problems with Acrobat Pro XI before the 11.0.09 update and you are now having issues because of 11.0.09, like I was with totally sluggish and non-responsive commands and performance, you might want to do what I did. I completely uninstalled Acrobat XI, ran the Adobe Acrobat clean up tool, then re-installed Acrobat XI and updated it manually starting with 11.0.01, then 11.0.02, then 11.0.03, skipped 11.0.04 (issues it created), skipped 11.0.05 (won't install without .04), then installed 11.0.06, 11.0.07, and 11.0.08. Did not bother with 11.0.09. What is important to remember, I think, is that just because Adobe puts out an Update does not mean you need to install the Update, especially if you are not having any usage issues or performance problems. So, I am back to Acrobat XI, ver. 11.0.08 and totally satisfied with the efficient and great performance that I am getting out of the program.

Hello, I've got an applet with an editable JEditorPane. I can make a copy/paste in the editor from any application outside the applet and from the applet itself. But with Word under windows, the paste method tries to insert html rendered by word and
