Powerpoint text slides unreadable

Hello, I am inserting Powerpoint(2007) slides into a video of a presentation. These slides have a lot of text on them, and when I put them into Premiere, they become virtually unreadable. The only effect I am adding is .5 anti-flicker, which blurs the slides a bit and makes them a LITTLE more readable (1.0 anti-flicker just looks like I need glasses).
The slides are exported from PPT as bitmaps to avoid text compression issues. Their native resolution is 960x720 (4:3), while the video is 720x480 (3:2). I'm reducing each slide to about 50% of its original size so it will fit on the screen.
I've looked around for anything that would help make this text readable, but I was unsuccessful so far. I am using Adobe CS3.
Thanks for any help!

The issue becomes one of building a PP slide for computer screens, which are typically much higher resolution than TV screens. PP creators aren't often aware of this and so don't take any care to make their slides "TV friendly" (text size, overscan, interlacing, etc.)
You may simply have to rebuild the slides in Premiere/Photoshop, or even redesign the entire presentation as making the text large enough to read might also make it too large to fit all of it on the same slide.
What would be nice is if Microsoft would incorporate a sort of "Video Mode" into PowerPoint, which will only allow 720 x 480 screen sizes, will not allow any elements but the background to be placed outside of a 10% Safe Title area, will not allow any text with point sizes to small to read when displayed on a 27' TV from 13 feet away, would not allow any 'unsafe' colors, and such like that. Only then can we video producers get truly compatible PowerPoint's from out clients (who would be fully expected to design their presentations using the TV Template from scratch, or redesign it after the fact if they decide later they want to add it to a video.)

  • Can I import Powerpoint text objects into CP as seperate layers?

I have a Powerpoint presentation I would like to convert to a CP7 project. I imported the Powerpoint and checked the 'sync' checkbox. In CP I added voice over to each slide. Now I want to time the fade-in of each of my bullets to the audio track. However, the individual text layers that exist in Powerpoint are not brought into CP as seperate layers. This makes it extremly difficult to time the bullets to the audio track because the audio is in CP and I have to implement the timing in Powerpoint. Is there any way to import the Powerpoint text objects into CP as individual layers?

Not possible, each ppt slide will be turned in sort of a movie slide that
keeps timing and animations. Maybe you need a ppt plugin instead of a full
    authoring tool?

  • How to make a text "slide"

I am creating a DVD that has several short movies on it. In addition to the movies, i would like to put a slide that has a bunch of informational text, set against a background. I tried doing it by creating the text slide in Powerpoint and saving as a movie. iDVD said that was an unsupported format even though it is a .mov file. So I opened the slide movie in Quicktime and exported it as a Quicktime movie. (Sounds redundant, doesn't it?) Then I was able to add it as a movie in iDVD.
BUT, the only problem is when you open it (the movie) it shows up nicely, but has a lot of flicker when I view it on a TV.
I tried to reduce the flicker by importing it into Final Cut Pro, but the file was not supported. So i imported into iMovie, then exported, then imported into FCP. I added deinterlace and flicker filters and exported it. Then when I added it to the iDVD, the text looked completely choppy and ugly!!!
    Any suggestions?

Create a 640x480 image. iDVD will do the conversion from computer pixel to NTSC "pixel" for you. If you start with 720x480, the image will end up squished or maybe it is stretched, but either way, iDVD expects 640x480 as "native" input and will do the conversion for TV sets behind the scenes.

  • Text slides in Premiere Pro CS5.5

I admit to being an amateur in the use of Premiere Pro.  I would like to make an educational video and post on Youtube.  I will have some HD video but include some text slides.  To make the text slides, I wanted to use PowerPoint (saving as pdf and then jpg/tiff/png).  It seems like I cannot match these slides/images to the 16:9 aspect ratio of my HD video.  The pdf is forced into a paper size that does not match 16:9, and when I import the images and insert them into my sequence on Premiere Pro, the dimensions of the images do not match those of the video.  Does anyone have advice?  Do I need to match the 16:9 aspect ratio with my images?  What happens if I do not?  Should I make a wmv presentation in PowerPoint and then trim to get video clips of each slide (that seems tedious)?

Does the titler enable you to make slides on a plain white background?  I have only used the titler for placing words over a video clip.
Yes. Place a White Rectangle that covers the frame first. ie before entering text lines.

  • How can you make your OWN text slides on imovie

What i mean by this is, is there any other way to make text slides in imovie other than the options they already give you? I want to make my own, i'm not a fan of the ones they give

You can use Keynote and then use in imovie.
The trick is to Share from Keynote as a QuickTime movie. Use Timed Advance, not Manual Advance.
If you are using Green Screen, make a gradient background of two similar shades of green.
Here is a "green screen" example.
Here is a Picture in Picture example

  • How can i make only text slider? Not picture use

    Hi!
I want to text slider. 1 group 3 items has 5 text group changing fade effects?
    Thank you?

    This should do it ...
    1. Under widgets ... place a Blank Composition widget onto your Muse page
    2. Create a normal text box (however big you want) and fill that with the required text you want shown for your 1st slide
    3. Select the 1st (small thumbnail) box underneath the slideshow ... there's 3 shown by default
    4. Click and drag the text box, you created, onto the Blank Composition widget ... you will notice the widget box will give a BLUE outline ... this is showing you that you are adding the text box to the Blank Composition widget ...
    5. Center or place your text box accordingly ... change your Font, colours, formatting, etc to the way you want it
    6. Repeat this for however many text slides you need ... but select a different thumbnail box for each slide ... to add more than the 3 boxes shown just click the little '+' sign next to the thumnail boxes
    7. Under the properties panel for the Blank Composition (you know that small Blue circle and white arrow icon?) select Fading under Transistions
    8. Preview and edit your slide show accordingly
That should be it ... you can add most things in the compositon widgets ... I actually use the TEXT option to show testimonials ...

  • Powerpoint Master Slide only works on first 600 slides

I have a presentation with 3600 slides in PowerPoint 2010 and I'm trying to use a master slide to change the font color and background color of all slides. I've created a master slide and have changed the background color and all the slides did change.
However when I change the font color only the first 600 slide changed there font color. I changed the font on all the different levels of slides in the slide master.

    Hi,
In PowerPoint, the Slide Master is the template for your presentation.  If you make a change to the Slide Master, it will change for your entire presentation. However, if you have already applied formatting to one of your individual slides, it
will not follow the guidelines of the Slide Master.  He had changed the layout and formatting on some of his individual slides, and then made changes to the Slide Master, thinking that the changes would be applied to the slides that he had edited
    individually.
To reapply the Slide Master formatting to several slides at once, you can select multiple slides and following the same steps from Home > Slides > Reset.
    Hope it can be helpful.

  • IPhoto 9.6 - slideshow to movie - text slides show only text and no image

Made slideshow in iPhoto 9.6. Runs fine in slideshow mode on my iMac. However, when I export it to my desktop as a movie, slides that I inserted text via the text slide feature (bottom right of iPhoto) - black with the text only - lost the image. This happens on most of the text slides.  followed similar procedure before w/ no issues.

  • BUG: iPhoto 9 Slideshow - Text Slide Bugs and iPhoto Library Corruption

I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issues:
I have had multiple issues with iPhoto crashing, stop responding, and database corruption where I cannot open iPhoto. These issues all began when I tried to use the new themed slideshow in iPhoto v9.1. Previously, I had only used iPhoto to create basic slideshows with iPhoto v7.x. I was hoping that I would be able to create my masterpiece in iPhoto 11 (v9.1) but I have only been frustrated by my attempts so far.
What should have been a 3 - 4 hour operation has become a 20 hour nightmare and I still don't have a slideshow to show for my efforts. This has been one of my most disappointing uses of Apple software ever.
Repeatable, reproducible bugs that I have run into include:
    1. Deleting a photo that appears in the timeline before a sub-title causes havoc with subsequent sub-titles (a.k.a. Text Slides). Subsequent subtitles are randomly copied to pictures following the one it was assigned to. Further, there is no subtitle icon in the timeline and the photos have to be manually modified to eliminate the subtitle. Work around is click the "Text Slide" button
    2. Zooming and/or image placement is not preserved and not visible when previewed, exported, or iPhoto is closed and then reopened.
    3. The iPhoto Library becomes corrupt and permissions problems prevent me from working with my photos. This happens while working on slideshow. I have had to rebuild my library and repair permissions no less than five times since I started working on my slideshow.

iPhoto's slideshow feature is fine but no tool for a "masterpiece".
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • Non editable text slides in iPhoto 11? (v9.4.2)

I can't seem to add second or subsequent text slides to an iPhoto slideshow. It's not that the button doesn't work. It creates the slide in the correct sequence location however I'm unable to edit the text from the default 'Subtitle Text Here' - Is this a bug?

Yes, I can select all of the text or just a portion of it. When I highlight the text and then start typing to edit ithe text then nothing happens.
I've tried changing the font, the normal copy past shortcuts, reducing the number of slides (thinking it was a memory issue), duplicating the slide (which only duplicates the background image).
Rather than waste too much time a simple work around was to simply create new 'text' slides in Photoshop and to have these appear in the slide show.
I think it must be a bug however as one of the things I just tested resolves the problem. If I disconnect the secondary Apple Thunderbolt Display and then edit the text slide viewing it on the 15-inch built in screen of the MacBookPro it works as designed. I think it's possibly related to Thunderbolt (but not related to the Apple Extended USB keyboard which is plugged into the Thunderbolt display since using the keyboard on the Mac didn't work either).
    Thanks for the help.

  • "Hidden" Text Slides

I was working on my first slideshow in the Holiday Theme and inserted several text slides. I wanted one at the end to say "The End" - but when I tried to drop one in at the end nothing appeared. After several attempts, I gave up.
Well the next preview I did... bam... 3 text slides at the end. But they weren't showing in the slide list at the top! I tried deleting the last slide, thinking I had hit some limit, still nothing... but they were still in the preview and play. Added the deleted slide back, and now the 3 "hidden" text slides played BEFORE the re-added last slide...
Any idea how to get iPhoto to "refresh" or rescan or do anything to allow the editing/removal/placement of these 3 hidden slides? I do know that duplicating and selecting a different theme removes them.
So I guess I have two questions:
    1) Can you add an ending "Text Slide" to a slideshow? Anything special?
    2) Can you force iPhoto to resync the slide list with what plays in Preview/Play mode?
Thanks! We've had our first Mac for a little over a week now and loving it!

OK, we just met with an Apple professional at a "One to One" session.
Our problem was a head scratcher, and he did not know of any definitive fixes.
With the iPhoto '11 being so new this appears to be one of it's bugs/glitches that has not been addressed yet.
The one solution we found that may work is to change the Theme of the slide show you are creating.
Then, change it back to the desired theme. That seemed to work.
The phantom text slides did not show up in our slide show when previewed/played.
Give that a try if you have not discovered another solution.
A side note, on how we got in to this situation in the first place.
When you insert your photos into a particular slideshow theme you get the format as it exists in the program. Eg: Using the "Reflections" theme gives the pictures in varying displays of 1, 2, 3, or 4 photos. Some photos fit better in particular groupings.
I found that I could change the particular format/grouping by selecting a slide, then selecting "Text", then delete the Text slide. In some cases the group of photos preceding the inserted Text slide would now be arranged in a different grouping. By trial and error I could sometimes get a more desirable grouping. I had created another slide show using this technique and it turned out great, with no phantom text slides. I was able to keep my pictures in chronological order, in groupings that were contextual to the event, and also appropriate for the orientation of the picture.
The phantom text slide dilemma did not manifest itself until the creation of the 2nd slideshow.
The first show was created in the "Scrapbook" theme. No problems.
I had the problem using the "Reflections" theme. So, that particular program may have something in it that causes the phantom text slide issue.
Anyway, try swapping themes to clear the problem.
    Good Luck!

  • Duplicate text slides

I created a slideshow in iPhoto with some text slides.  All of a sudden each of the text slides is duplicated, i.e. the text used for one photo appears on the following photo slide also.  I don't believe I changed anything to make this happen.  How do I correct this?

oh, i'm kindof a dork. i realized they arent different slides, they are different frames. i went ahead and changed the text on the first one and it is now different on all frames.
    please ignore my ignorance!

  • I am making a slideshow. How do you make a text slide?

I am making a slideshow. How do you make a text slide? I have not found a tutorial.

If you want to superimpose text on a slide: simply click on the text button on the tool bar
If you want to have a blank slide with just text: create a black (or whatever colour you prefer) slide and use that behind the text.

  • Inserting "text" slide to slideshow

I am wondering if there is a way to insert a "text" slide to a slideshow. My friend is working on a project and she has ilife 08 and if you are making a dvd slideshow of pictures, she wanted to be able to insert a slide that said, "january" prior to all the pics coming up in January. Is there a way to do this in idvd?

Just load up your favorite image editor and create a slide that is 640x480, pick a nice background color and then add the text. Save as a JPG or TIFF or whatever you want then import this like any other photo in your slideshow.
