PowerPoint to PDF creates "blank" pages

I just downloaded Acrobat 9 this afternoon and have tried several times to convert a very large PowerPoint presentation to a PDF file.  One time is said "unexpected error" mesaage, so I shut down and restarted.   The second time, it made the PDF file, but there were a lot of blank pages throughout the PDF document.   Does anyone have any thoughts on fixing this??

Here was my dilemma.  I was printing multiple files as Notes Pages to PDF. I had files created in Powerpoint 2010, natively and by me; files created in 2010 by someone else; files created in 2003 by me; and files created in 2003 by someone else.  The files created by someone else didn't work.  The ones created on this machine did.  I tried countless printing options, restarted the print spooler, nothing helped.  Then I embedded the true type fonts (all characters), saved the file to disk, closed it and re-opened it and POOF it worked.
My problem was only on Notes Pages printing or saving to PDF, and only with presentations not created on this machine regardless of version.
Hope this helps.

  • Acrobat Pro 9: "Merge files into a single pdf" creates blank pages

    I have a similar problem as a previous post (which hasn't been answered).
    I am able to pdf individual Word documents fine, but when I try to Combine > Merge files into a single pdf, the resulting pdf pages are all blank. I don't receive any error messages or have problems saving the file.
    I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (9.5.1) on Windows 7.
    The merging of pdf's hasn't worked at all since I installed the program.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Bill
    Thanks so very much - you have solved the problem.
    I tried Document > Insert Pages and that worked.
    I then ran the "Repair" feature on Adobe which installed a few updates and I am now also able to merge pdf's by using the "Combine" feature and all the pages show the text/info.
    Thanks again for your help, it is very much appreciated.
    Thank you also to Apoorv for your assistance.

  • Combine jpegs to create PDF with blank page background

    Hello, I have hundreds of newspaper scans of various sizes, same dpi, and I want to combine them to create one PDF with each of them on a blank 8.5 x 11 background page? like in a scrapbook. Is this possible using only acrobat? Or does it need to be done on a program like indesign? Appreciate any thoughts.

    Here's a script that you can use to create the blank document with a button on each page. When a page is clicked, it will prompt you to import an image (it defaults to PDF, so select JPG from the from the dropdown) to use for the icon. You can set the "num_pages" variable from 100 to whatever amount you need. To run the script, open the JavaScript console (Ctrl+J), copy the entire script below, paste it into the console, select all of the lines, and press Ctrl+Enter. This will run the script and the result will be a 100 page PDF:
    // Start of script
    // Create a new document and make the page a template
    var newDoc = app.newDoc({nHeight: 11 * 72, nWidth: 8.5 * 72});
    var t1 = newDoc.createTemplate("t1", 0);
    // Add a button to the template and set the various properties
    var f = newDoc.addField("icon", "button", 0, [0, 11 * 72, 8.5 * 72, 0]);
    f.buttonPosition = position.iconOnly;
    f.borderStyle = border.s;  // Solid
    f.buttonAlignX = 50;
    f.buttonAlignY = 50;
    f.buttonFitBounds = true;
    f.buttonScaleHow = scaleHow.proportional;
    f.buttonScaleWhen = scaleWhen.tooBig;
    f.lineWidth = 0;
    f.fillColor = color.transparent;
    f.strokeColor = color.transparent;
    f.setAction("MouseUp", "event.target.buttonImportIcon();");
    // Create multiple pages based on the template
    var num_pages = 100;
    for (var i = 0; i < num_pages; i += 1) {
        t1.spawn(i, true, false);
    // Remove the template page
    newDoc.deletePages(newDoc.numPages - 1);
    // End of script
    Save the file that is generated. After you populate all the buttons by clicking on each page, you can flatten the pages by entering the following line in the console and executing it as you did with the previous script:
    // Convert button appearances to regular page contents.
    flattenPages();
    Save to a different file and you should have what you want. Post again if anything isn't working.
    Note that it would be possible to automatically import the images, but you'd need to create a list of the files you want to import and amend the script a bit. If interested, I could show an example of how you'd do this.

  • PDF Printing drops text or creates blank pages

    I have the same problem as "alacker2" who noted this problem 2 days ago.  The original prints fine from the source document and when printed from another computer. This problem exists for both of my printers (HP).  I also experience blank pages when trying to print a PDF from another site. This problem is not consistent because I can print a similar page of the same document elements (tables, text and graphic (PDF))

    I am printing from both a browser (safari) and from Acrobat Pro XI.  The browser version was also saved to my computer and when I attempted to print, the results were blank pages. MAC OS 10.9.3. The printers are HP officeJet Pro 8600 and HP LaserJet P1102W

  • MS Word 2004 print/save as pdf - mysterious blank page

    Hi,
    I'm using Microsoft Word 2004 with OS 10.4.6. When I use the Save as pdf feature under the Print dialog, I keep getting blank pages in the pdf that don't appear in the Word Doc itself.
    The Word document contains 30 pages. The first page is a jpeg graphic. I managed to get it to print fine the other day, but after my wife fixed a few spelling errors, I got a blank page as the second page in the pdf. Strangely enough, there is no blank page there in Word. I turned on invisible characters in Word and couldn't find any stray characters. The first page is a jpeg graphic that takes up 75% of the page.
    All of the pages are formatted the same, portrait 8 1/2 x 11 with standard margins. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I tried pulling out the margins all the way the the edge, but I'm still experiencing the problem. I also tried reducing the image size significantly with no success. Any suggestions?
    I also tried deleting the image. With the image gone, the extra page goes, too. The page with the section break is still there but mysterious page #2 is gone. When I import the image again, though, I re-create the problem.
    I just realized I didn't try the 'Use Printer metrics to layout document' that Paul suggested and might look into that.
    Any other suggestions? I hesitate to do it because the document is somewhat elabourate, but I might try rebuilding the first few pages in a new document to see if I add the image first and then add the text if it will solve the problem.
    One other question. When I reveal invisible formatting, it does show two paragraph marks in the footer. This is the same for all footers on every page in the entire document. Could that be causing the problem? If so, do you know if it is possible to delete only the footer on the first page?
    One other clue: I used to have a graphic on the back page and now that I think of it, there was a blank page after it, too. It sure sounds like your tiling description...
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Fonts in PDF created from Pages doesn't present correctly on Windows PCs

    The fonts documents that I'm creating in Pages and then converting to PDF, aren't presenting properly to people using Windows PC's. Some of the fonts are "wonky".
    What I'm doing is creating documents in Pages and then creating PDF's either by Print, save as PDF or Share, Export, PDF.
    On my MacBook and iPad the PDFs are perfect. However when viewed on Windows, they are wonky. Not all of the document/fonts are messed up. An example of a font that appears wonky, is Baskerville.
    I've used Adobe Reader to check whether the fonts appear embedded, and they seem to be there.
    This is a huge problem for me because, at the moment, all documents I'm sending to clients who use Windows, are looking really unprofessional.
    Any suggestions or solutions?
    Anyone else seen this?

    Since the problem is to be seen in Adobe Reader for Microsoft Windows, you might want to ask a forum at Adobe.com. There is no way of knowing what you mean by 'wonky.'
    The principle is that the scalable glyph shapes in the font program are subset and the subset of glyph shapes is inserted with the start point and the set widths that are used for drawing ('showing') the glyphs in the graphic co-ordinate geometry that you have defined in the document setup dialogue. There are two basic ways to embed Apple SFNT-housed TrueType (which is what your Baskerville is, if it is the one that installs with the system software) in Adobe PDF, either as several font programs each with a max of 256 glyphs or as a single font program within which there are several tiled font programs. Both are basically hacks, because Adobe PDF cannot contain the Unicode and TrueType glyph run complete, the way Adobe PDF 1.3 and higher can in fact contain the ICC ColorWorld complete. But that is a monster bug matrix that is beyond this discussion - only that you need to understand what you are seeing in the dialogue for embedded fonts shown in Adobe Acrobat products. That is, the fonts are always re-encoded and are never the original, intact fonts.

  • Display size of PDF created by Pages in Browsers

    Hi,
    I have created a document using pages and exported it as PDF.
    Looking at it in Pages (scale 100%) is fine. It prints DIN A4 perfectly.
    I put it on my Web-Server and put a link to it . Except for Firefox, no matter what other browser I try it comes up huge. I know, one can change the display scale in most browsers, (can't find it in IE8) but it is a nuisance. Other peoples PDF's don't seem to do this. Has it to do with it being created by Pages or does anyone know any other reason/solution?
    Thanks
    -Paul-

    Pages PDF generation is not the problem.
    With the same Acrobat Reader 11.0.02 installed on Windows 7 and OS X 10.8.3, the page display resolution reported by Reader on OS X is 81 ppi, and on Windows, as 96 ppi. Simply put, the same PDF, at the same enlargement setting, would image smaller on OS X than when viewed on Windows 7.
    You can test this easily. On the Mac, open a PDF in Reader. Open the Reader preferences and visit Page display > Resolution. Key in 96 ppi and press ok. The PDF image enlarges.
    Browsers that still use the Acrobat PDF plugin, or use Reader as a helper application, allow the user to change the viewed PDF enlargement setting, but not the display resolution used. Browsers that offer built-in PDF viewing support (Chrome, Firefox 19) do not. I changed the Reader page display resolution preference, and the Acrobat PDF plug-in did not change viewed PDF size. Even on a refresh of the PDF. It may be hard-wired to use the system default or a calculated default -- perhaps as do the Chrome and current Firefox PDF solutions.

    My iPad 2 is shutting down when I try to email a PDF I have created in pages. Why? Very frustrating....

    That is very interesting in that my iPhone was exhibiting similar behavior with the "blue screen of death" with Pages a few months ago. An update for Pages came out and when I installed the update, the problem disappeared.
    Is Pages completely updated on your iPad? Do you use iCloud with Pages? If you use iCloud, try turning it off. settings>Pages>Use iCloud>Off. You will not lose your documents since they will still be in iCloud even if you turn that off on your iPad.

  • OCR creates blank pages

    I have a Windows 7 home premium and the Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.2.  OCR had been working fine.Today that stopped and I don't have a clue why because no changes were made prior to the problem occuring today.
    Today, after I opened a pdf document in Acrobat and perform ocr text recogniation on an image pdf with multiple pages, Acrobat does fine on text recognition on the first page but every other page in the document becomes blank (even the pages that are not in the ocr page recognition span become blank) -- no text - no anything, just blank pages. I had been using 9.4.1 and this problem started today.  So, I updated to 9.4.2 and the same problem occurs.

    I had the same problem recently, go to the document menu and select optimized scanned pdf
    then try the ocr again and it should eliminate the blank pages, at least it worked for me.  I also scanned the document at 600dpi before optimizing.

  • How to Create Blank pages & no links for more pages

    Hello,
    just started using iweb ...is there a way to create a blank page not associated with pictures, podcasts movies etc and I want to create a site with multiple picture pages but i dont want a link for every single page on my heading or that area between my header and the body.
    whats happening right now is there is a link for every page in my site on the heading if i keep this up my heading will look like a big paragraph
    thanks for any help

    If you want a page not to be displayed in the navigational menu, then just click on the Inspector and click on the Page tab (second from the left). Under the name of the page (which you can also change here) there is a box to include page in navigation menu. Just uncheck that box and your page won't show up. Of course, I assume you will have a link to the undisplayed page(s) from other pages that are in the menu.
    Hey, if this answered you question, could you please click on the "solved" or "helpful" button that you see in the title bar of my reply? I would really appreciate it.

  • Imported file creating blank page

    I have a file of boilerplate text. My current document imports this (as a referenced file). The boilerplate file concludes with a table and then a single blank line using the Normal paragraph style. It all looks just fine in the boilerplate file.
    However, in my document file, there's an extra blank page and I cannot delete. When I try to delete it, I get an error: "Cannot delete pages. They contain imported text that extends outside the page range you are deleting. Convert the text insets to text and try again."
    Any suggestions?

    I do not have pagination set to "make page count even" and I was importing into a paragraph of style "normal." However, you gave me an idea. I did some experimentation and this seems to fix it:
    1. Open the file to be inserted. It should end with an empty paragraph, with font size of 2. Save & close.
    2. Delete the inserted file from the chapter or document file.
    3. If the extra blank page is still present, delete it.
    4. Create a an empty paragraph where the inserted file will go, with font size of 2.
    5. Put the cursor on the new empty paragraph and insert the file.
    6. Refresh all references.
    I know it seems convoluted, but it does appear to be working.
    Thanks, Error7103.

  • Pdf opens blank page in safari

    PDF opens as a blank page in safari.  Can any one help?

    Hello S Butler,
    Welcome to Discussions!
    See if any of this helps you below.
    Also did you use the combo up-date for 10.4.5? Because this version
    corrects things in Safari that the stand alone does not.
    Did you repair premissions before and after the up-date?
    Did you turn off your firewall?
    Safari: PDFs now open directly in Safari instead of in Preview
    When using the latest version of Safari with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger," PDF links that you click will now open directly in the Safari window for your viewing convenience. Before Tiger, PDFs would open in Preview.
    If you still prefer Preview, simply Control-click the PDF link (or right click on a two-button mouse) and choose Download Linked File from the shortcut menu. Once the file is on your desktop, double-click it to open in Preview.
    Notes:
    In addition to Control-clicking the link and selecting Download Linked File as described above, you also have the choice of using Option-click on the link to shortcut the process even further.
    If you do open a PDF in a Safari window, you can Control-click on the PDF itself and choose Open with Preview.
    Due to certain server configurations, some PDFs will still download to your desktop instead of opening in a Safari window.
    If you use a third-party PDF plug-in for Safari, it will block Safari's built-in PDF support.
    Please let us know if anything works for you.

  • Export InDesign to PDF without blank pages

    Hello, my company has been using InDesign CS3 for documentation to print or view in a PDF format. In multiple page documents we will insert blank pages for printing double sided - however, if people just view the PDF file these pages become annoying. Is there a way to have documents with blank pages, not export the blank pages, but still have the correct page numbers and the Table of Contents reflect the correct pages?

    Try PRINTING to PDF instead of exporting, and uncheck the "Include bank pages" box. This should give you a PDF in single pages with no blanks. I don't believe it will affect the page numbering in Acrobat (though it may be disconcerting for users to have skipped numbers), but I don't really know how it will affect the bookmarks in the TOC. My gut says it should still work.

  • PDFs print blank page with URL on top

    Whenever I try to print a PDF from within Safari XP 4.0.4, I get a blank page with just the URL on the top line and page 1 of 1 on the bottom. I don't know if it's different when I click the printer icon or go to file/print. Help?

    Just doublechecking. Are other PDFs currently printing properly for you, George? (Say, if you're printing them directly from your Reader as opposed to printing them through Safari's Adobe PDF plugin?)

  • Web publish tool creates blank page

    I've been having some trouble with the LabVIEW web publishing tool. It seems that when I try to publish the front panel of my vi, a blank web page is produced instead. To publish, I select Tools>>Web Publishing Tool..., then select my VI from the VI name dropdown menu. I select monitor mode and use a refresh rate of a couple seconds. From there, I try to view a page preview, but all I see is a blank white page. When I try to view the html source of this page, it looks like a blank html document (i.e. view source just shows a blank page as well).
    When I follow the web publishing wizard through to completion, I visit the address that the page is supposed to be published at, but get the same blank page results as I did in the preview. Note that I don't get a 404, just a blank page. However, when I look at the html document that was produced, it does contain a page (I've attached the html it produces, all I've done is change the extension to text so I could upload it).
    I'm running LabVIEW 2009. The vi in question is in memory, running on the server computer. I have enabled the web server, but in the web publishing wizard, the "Start Web Server" button is inaccessible.
    Does anyone know what might be wrong? Or better yet how to fix it?

    Jordan,
    What I meant was that the VI was running on the computer that is acting as the server, which is in fact the same computer I was testing from. So yes, the problem still arose there. I have made some progress on this issue- it seems that it might be due to some bug with the Browser Access List. Our Browser Access list was empty. Whenever I tried to add something to it (i.e. by typing "*" into the Browser Address bar, selecting the "Allow viewing" radio button and then clicking the "Add" button), a blank entry would show up in the Browser access list. After hitting "ok" on the options box, the blank entry seemed to dissapear; when I would revisit the settings page under "tools->Options->Web Server" the browser list would show up totally empty again.
    I was able to fix this problem just by typing "*" into the Browser Address bar, clicking "Add", and toggling back and forth between the radio button access options a few times. Eventually the * showed up as an entry in the browser access list, and when I hit ok the option seems to persist (so I can leave the Web Server options dialogue and return to it later to see that the * is still added with the proper permissions).
    However, I'm still having problems. Now when I visit the url of my web published vi, I get the message "Client does not have access to the specified VI." I currently have the settings such that I think all browser clients should have view & control permissions for our published vis. I have attached a screenshot of this message and of our current browser permissions screen. Is this the proper set up? If not, what do I need to do to give viewing permissions to all clients?
