Powershell script for creating SSL web application

Hello,
I am trying to create SSL web application in Sharepoint 2010 using power shell and I am using the below script.
$WebApp = New-SPWebApplication -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue -Name $WebApplicationName -url $WebApplicationUrl -port $WebApplicationPort
-ApplicationPool $AppPool.Name -ApplicationPoolAccount $AppPoolManagedAccount.Username -AuthenticationProvider $AuthProvider -DatabaseName
$ContentDatabaseName
-SecureSocketsLayer
The web application gets created and when I try to create a site collection and access it, the page is inaccessible.
So I tried to bind the url to a new certificate from inetmgr and site collection still doesnt show up.
I tried manually through central admin and everything worked well including the binding to SSL.
Is there anything wrong with script, if yes what more do I need to add into this?
Thanks.

The issue is solved, the problem was that the parameter -URL shouldn't be any random url but it should be
https://yourservername/ and then configure the binding to a self-signed certificate.
So John I think the command rather should be
New-SPWebApplication -Name "Contoso Internet Site" -URL "https://yourservername"  -Port 80 -ApplicationPool "ContosoAppPool"
 than
New-SPWebApplication -Name "Contoso Internet Site" -URL "https://www.contoso.com"  -Port 80 -ApplicationPool "ContosoAppPool"

  • How to create different log files for each of web applications deployed in OC4J

    Hi All,
    I am using OC4J(from Oracle) v1.0.2.2 and Windows2000. Now I want to know
    1. how to create different log files for each of my deployed web applications ?
    2. what are the advantages in running multiple instances of oc4j and in what case we should run
    multiple instances of OC4J ?
    3. how to run OC4J as Windows2000 Service rather than Windows2000 Application ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi Avi,
    First of all I have given a first reading to log4j and I think there will some more easy way of logging debugging messages than log4j (If you could provide me a detailed explanation of a servlet,jsp,java bean that uses log4j and how to use log4j then it will be very helpful for me). The other easy ways (if I am not using log4j) to my problem i.e creating different log files for each of web applications deployed in oc4j are
    I have created multiple instances of OC4J that are configured to run on different ports and so on each instance I have deployed a single web application . And I started the 2 oc4j instances by transferring thier error/log messages to a file. And the other way is ..
    I have download from jakarta site a package called servhelper . This servhelper is a thread that is started in a startup servlet and stopped in the destroy method of that startup servlet. So this thread will automatically capture all the system.out.println's and will print those to a file. I believe that this thread program is synchronized. So in this method I need not run multiple instances of OC4J instead each deployed web application on single instance of oc4j uses the same thread program (ofcourse a copy of thread program is put in each of the deployed web applications directories) to log messages on to different log files.
    Can you comment on my above 2 approached to logging debugging messages and a compartive explanation to LOG4J and how to use LOG4J using a simple servlet, simple jsp is appreciated ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • Executing a powershell script for checking duplicate users while creating a AD user throug ADUC console.

    Hi,
    I have a text file in which some SamAccountNames are present.I need to check the file while creating a new users through ADUC console.If a username that is going to create through ADUC console is present in the file, then it should prompt a message
    that the user is already present in the text file.
    Is there any possibility of contacting the powershell script from the ADUC console.If so, then while creating a new user through ADUC console, what is the proceedure for executing that powershell script.
    please provide me the approriate solutions.
    Thanks

  • Using Echo Command in PowerShell Script for Configuration Item

    Hello All,
    Before you tell me to post my PowerShell question to the PowerShell Forum, please know that the PowerShell portion of my task works just fine. It is the SCCM portion of my task that keeps failing, so that is why I am here. To give some background...
    There are two servers in our SCCM test environment. Both the SCCM server and SQL DB server are 2012, patched and updated.
    Test servers in my Device Collection being used for running Baselines and Reports against are 2008R2 and 2012, patched and updated.
    I have created a Configuration Item that checks to see if the FTP Server Role Feature has been installed on a 2008 or 2012 server. To do the check, I am using the following PowerShell script:
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed
    When I log into my 2008R2 and 2012 test servers, and run this command directly on the server, it will return a "True" if the FTP Server Role Feature is installed on either server, and a "False" if it is not installed. Basically,
    it works as advertised.
    When I setup my Configuration Item and then deploy my Baseline, or run a report against my device collection of test servers, SCCM will return a correct response (True or False) for the 2012 test server, but throws the following error for the 2008R2
    server:
    0x87df00329 application requirement evaluation or detection failed
    Google searches for this have not been very helpful.
    Now, when I created the Configuration Item and referenced PowerShell, the configuration screen has the following note:
    "Specify the script to find and return the value to be assessed for compliance on client devices. Use the echo command to return the script value to Configuration Manager."
    Since I did not include an echo command in my PowerShell script above, I figured that was my problem, so I did the following:
    Logging onto both of my test servers (2008R2 & 2012) I was able to successfully run the following PowerShell commands and get the expected responses of True or False:
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed | echo
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed | write-output (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh849921.aspx)
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed | write-host (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee177031.aspx)
    However, when I use any of these PowerShell commands in my Configuration Item, NEITHER of my test servers returns a response to the SCCM server.
    When I check the report, both servers show as "Unknown" and when I click on the number 2 (as in 2 servers unknown), the following report page (List of unknown assets for a configuration baseline) has absolutely no data/information at all.
    So...I am at a loss.
    SCCM tells me to use an echo command to return a script value to Configuration Manager. The PowerShell scripts above, with the various echo related commands, work just fine on the servers themselves, but they return no information when run via SCCM.
    What am I missing?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance for your time.

    Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't understand. (I forgot to mention that I am new at both PowerShell and SCCM.)
    After I change the PowerShell script to add the echo/write-output/write-host cmdlet, I open the ConFig Item and "Clear" the PowerShell script and then re-add it. When I do that, it correctly shows the change in the ConFig Item.
    Next I open the Baseline, then open the ConFig Item within the Baseline to make sure the change is reflected there as well, which it is.
    I then deploy the Baseline to my Device Collection. After that, I run a report against the Baseline and Device Collection and it returns the "Unknown" result.
    If I open the PowerShell script and remove the echo/write-output/write-host cmdlet, then go through the rest of the process of updating and reporting, the result it returns changes, showing one server in compliance and the other server out of compliance,
    which leads me to think that all changes have taken correctly.
    Does that sound right? If I manually deploy the Baseline, is that the same as the client retrieving policies from the management point?
    Sorry to be so thick but I'm learning as I go.
    Thanks again for your help.

    So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
    that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
    A cluster has the following parameters:
    className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
    name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
    mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
    mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
    mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
    mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
    mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
    tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
    tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
    in case of multiple ethernet cards.
    auto means that address becomes
    InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
    tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
    tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
    has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
    printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
    expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
    useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
    false means to replicate the session after each request.
    false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
    <%
    HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
    map.put("key","value");
    %>
    replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
    * Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return. This is the same as the 'synchronous' setting except it uses a pool of sockets, hence it is multithreaded. This is the fastest and safest configuration. To use this, also increase the nr of tcp threads that you have dealing with replication.
    * Synchronous means that the thread that executes the request, is also the
    thread the replicates the data to the other nodes, and will not return until all
    nodes have received the information.
    * Asynchronous means that there is a specific 'sender' thread for each cluster node,
    so the request thread will queue the replication request into a "smart" queue,
    and then return to the client.
    The "smart" queue is a queue where when a session is added to the queue, and the same session
    already exists in the queue from a previous request, that session will be replaced
    in the queue instead of replicating two requests. This almost never happens, unless there is a
    large network delay.
    -->
    <!--
    When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
    coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.
    A session is replicated if and only if all the conditions are met:
    1. useDirtyFlag is true or setAttribute or removeAttribute has been called AND
    2. a session exists (has been created)
    3. the request is not trapped by the "filter" attribute
    The filter attribute is to filter out requests that could not modify the session,
    hence we don't replicate the session after the end of this request.
    The filter is negative, ie, anything you put in the filter, you mean to filter out,
    ie, no replication will be done on requests that match one of the filters.
    The filter attribute is delimited by ;, so you can't escape out ; even if you wanted to.
    filter=".*\.gif;.*\.js;" means that we will not replicate the session after requests with the URI
    ending with .gif and .js are intercepted.
    The deployer element can be used to deploy apps cluster wide.
    Currently the deployment only deploys/undeploys to working members in the cluster
    so no WARs are copied upons startup of a broken node.
    The deployer watches a directory (watchDir) for WAR files when watchEnabled="true"
    When a new war file is added the war gets deployed to the local instance,
    and then deployed to the other instances in the cluster.
    When a war file is deleted from the watchDir the war is undeployed locally
    and cluster wide

    By defining this element, means that every manager will be changed.
    So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
    that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
    A cluster has the following parameters:
    className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
    name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
    mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
    mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
    mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
    mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
    mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
    tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
    tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
    in case of multiple ethernet cards.
    auto means that address becomes
    InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
    tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
    tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
    has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
    printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
    expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
    useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
    false means to replicate the session after each request.
    false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
    <%
    HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
    map.put("key","value");
    %>
    replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
    -->
    <!--
    When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
    coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.

  • Error in Creating New Web Application SharePoint 2013

    Everything was working fine but today when i try to create  a new web application i am getting the following error.It's happening whenever i am trying to create a new web application.
    The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\26060 is already being used by another IIS Web Site.  Choose a different root directory for your new Web application.
    But this port 26060 was not being used before and if i try to create new web application again then the error message occurs with the port number of the new web application.
    Please help.

    Hi HelloFragrance,
    Are you using a host header when creating these web apps? If so have you tried creating without a host header? Also are you logged in with the Server with the Admin account? Check this out: (taken from Jeremy Taylor's
    blog)
    " 1. Ensure you have a proper dns name / entry in the hosts file of your server for the new url you are wanting to create.
    2. Ensure you have typed in the ‘host header’ typed in when creating the new web application.
    3. If this doesnt work, open IIS Manager – Start>run> inetmgr> and verify the home directory – it could be located on a different drive."
    Also have you tried creating through Powershell and see if you run into the same issue or not?
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607931(v=office.15).aspx
    Hope this helps!

  • Powershell Script to create "custom" Document Library

    I have a powershell script which creates a Document Library for every user in AD.
    This works, but rather than using the default Document Library I want it use a custom Document Library.  However this isnt working.
    My script to create the default Document Library is this...
    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c")
    $site = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite("http://servername/sitename");
    $siteweb = $site.OpenWeb();
    $webs = $siteweb.Webs;
    $strFilter = "(&(objectCategory=User)(name=accountname))"
    $objDomain = New-Object System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry
    $objSearcher = New-Object System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher
    $objSearcher.SearchRoot = $objDomain
    $objSearcher.PageSize = 1000
    $objSearcher.Filter = $strFilter
    $objSearcher.SearchScope = "Subtree"
    $colProplist = "samaccountname"
    foreach ($i in $colPropList){$objSearcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add($i)}
    $colResults = $objSearcher.FindAll()
    foreach ($objResult in $colResults)
    $objItem = $objResult.Properties; $objItem.samaccountname
    $listTemplate = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListTemplateType]::DocumentLibrary
    $listId = $siteweb.Lists.Add($objItem.samaccountname, "", $listtemplate);
    $list = $siteweb.Lists.GetList($listId, $true);
    $roleDef = $siteweb.RoleDefinitions.GetByType("Contributor");
    $user = "domain\" + $objItem.samaccountname;
    $rolAssign = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPRoleAssignment($user, "email", "name", "notes");
    $rolAssign.RoleDefinitionBindings.Add($roleDef);
    if(!$list.HasUniqueRoleAssignments)
    {$list.BreakRoleInheritance($true);}
    for ($i = $list.roleAssignments.Count - 1; $i -gt -1; $i--)
    { $list.RoleAssignments.Remove($i) }
    $list.RoleAssignments.Add($rolAssign);
    $list.Update();
    Now I have a custom Document Library named "TESTLIB" so if I substitute the line:
    $listTemplate = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListTemplateType]::DocumentLibrary
    with
    $listTemplate = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListTemplateType]::TESTLIB
    Then it errors with this...
    How can I script powershell to create a "custom" Document Library?

  • SSL Web Applications in Content Sources

    Hi there,
    I'm a bit stumped.  I have created two web applications - an Intranet and My Sites Host.  When I created them I selected the option on both for an SSL site.
    I have now set up the Search Service Application and added my site addresses to the "Local SharePoint Sites" content source.  When I start a full crawl, I get the following error:-
    This item could not be crawled because the repository did not respond within the specified timeout period. Try to crawl the repository at a later time, or increase the timeout value on the Proxy and Timeout page in search administration. You might
    also want to crawl this repository during off-peak usage times.
    Found some answers to that problem on the internet but none of them worked for me.
    So, I then created a new content source to crawl the "SharePoint - 80" web app which is an http app and the crawl was successful.
    Is there a little trick I am missing because my web apps are SSL?

    Open SharePoint Central Administration
    Select Manage service applications, from the Application Management section
    Select the Search Service Application. e.g. Search Service 1

  • "SSO" for non-sap web application using SAPGUI to browse?

    I have a web application (non SAP) and the user base are also SAP users in an ABAP system.
    To strengthen the authentication in the web app, I wanted to implement SSO
    authentication as we pity the users for having to remember so many strong pw's and I
    dont like LDAP based pw sync or other technology I dont understand, because then we are
    just yet another application with the same pw...
    We are having technical problems implementing SSO on the web app side, and are anyway a
    bit sceptical about the user admin / role admin assignment if we get it to work.
    So I have created a transaction in SAP which browses the web app and the intention is to
    send the SAP sy-uname as the web app user. We can control this using s_tcode, and
    an own auth object on the WAS side and a check on the session type before the connection is
    established. In this sense we are dependent on the SAP concept implemented, but even so:
    The role assignment is controlled in the web app itself -> so assume that I am not overly
    worried about unauthorized access to the web application, as they would not have any
    system role for it as their sy-uname does not exist. (Infact we can monitor this)
    The browser on the front end is the SAPGUI with html controls on the SAP side.
    I would be interested in knowing whether anyone else has experience with this approach, and
    whether there are any areas to be carefull of?
    I would also like to know whether this is a strategic error?
    Kind regards,
    Julius

    Hi Julius,
    well, if that web application would run on the same ABAP backend system then the solution described in <a href="http://service.sap.com/~iron/fm/011000358700000431401997E/0612670">SAP Note 612670</a> would be applicable:
    a so-called "Re-entrance ticket" (based on the "SAP logon ticket" SSO proceedings) is issued, transported via the SAPGUI connection and back to the system via the invoked HTML control.
    But for non-SAP web applications that does not help.
    In that case only X.509 client certificates can be used for SSO. Actually, the web application could then also be invoked directly (independent from the SAPGUI session). The user is authenticated based on the X.509 client certificate - and not based on the ABAP userID (of the SAPGUI session).
    Well, if you don't mind the effort you could also use the "SAP Logon Ticket evaluation library" (sapssoext, see <a href="http://service.sap.com/~iron/fm/011000358700000431401997E/0304450">SAP Note 304450</a>) to evalute the SAP logon ticket externally. You'll then need to have a "stub application" at the ABAP side that triggers the http redirect to your external web application. Not a nice solution but a possible one.
    In the future SAML browser artifacts would be an option (preferable to integrate non-SAP applications). But currently that's not available (for NWAS ABAP).
    Cheers, Wolfgang

  • Need suggestion for a effective web application

    Hi all,
    I need ur valuable suggestions as how to create a web application effectively. So far I have been doing design,business logic and database operation in JSP itself. I dont want to continue with this. As a beginner i dont want to jump into struts directly without working in java beans and servlets.
    When should i use beans and when should i use java classes and when should i use servlets?
    Say for eg: I have a JSP page where i get the Employee details like
    Employee Name:
    Employee ID:
    Department: (Drop Down)
    Designation: (Drop Down)
    Address:
    Salary:
    At present i have created a jsp page EmployeeDetails.jsp where i have created text box to get input for emp name,id,address and salary.
    written db query to fetch existing departments and designations from DB and i have populated it in drop down. Once the user submits the page then the insertion part into DB is done in another jsp, SaveEmpDetails.jsp.
    Instead of doing everything in JSP how should i use bean or servlets.
    Here where should i use bean and where should i use servlets and java classes?
    It would be really helpful if someone help me to move one step forward and create effective web application.
    any tutorial or link which gives sample application design would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Thanuja.

    ok i checked the links and also few post in this forum.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5189695
    eg given in the above thread uses jsp,bean and servlet.
    I have a doubt. why to use bean in that eg. cant we directly get the value in jsp and pass it to servlet and make db insertion there?
    for the employee details scenario should i use bean? or directly pass the parameters to servlet and vise versa.
    Thanuja.

  • Which is better approach to manage sharepoint online - PowerShell Script with CSOM or Console Application with CSOM?

    Which is better approach to manage sharepoint online - PowerShell Script with CSOM or Console Application with CSOM?
    change in sharepoint scripts not require compilation but anything else?

    Yes, PowerShell is great, since you can quick change your code without compilation.
    SP admin can write ps scripts without specific tools like Visual Studio.
    With powershell you can use cmdlets,
    which could remove a lot of code, for example restarting a service.

  • How to disable u201Csticky sessionu201D for the particular web application?

    Hi All,
    Is there a possibility to disable so called u201Csticky sessionu201D for the particular web application? We have deployed a WAR file with the Axis 1.4 based web service into SAP NW 7.1. The web service works fine but when the client makes SOAP request the server creates a so-called u201Cstickyu201D HTTP session with the default (30 minutes) timeout. Such u201Csessionsu201D are created on each SOAP request from the same client. The maximum number for Java Web Sessions (SAP Management Console) is 1000. After a while the clients start getting the u201C503 Service not availableu201D errors:
    503 Service not available.
    Error: -6
    Version: 7010
    Component: ICM Java
    Date/Time: Tue Mar 03 14:30:12 2009
    Module: http_j2ee2.c
    Line: 1166
    Server: XXXXXXXXXXX
    Error Tag:
    Detail: server overload: no more sessions available
    The only way to improve the situation we found so far was to set session timeout to 1 minute. That u201Csticky sessionu201D will still be created, though.
    This is a testing environment and we do not use any hardware/software loadbalancer.
    Any help/advice is appreciated. (Please let me know if you need more information.)
    Thanks,
    Dmitry Vasilenko

    The practical workaround we finally come up with for this problem was to create a servlet filter and map it to the AxisServlet. The servlet filter will invalidate the HTTP session and effectively destroy the sticky session created by the server on each SOAP request.
    Here is the fragment from the web.xml
    <filter>
      <filter-name>StickySessionFilter</filter-name>
      <filter-class>com.xxxxx.xxxxx.xxxx.services.StickySessionFilter</filter-class>
    </filter>
    <filter-mapping>
      <filter-name> StickySessionFilter </filter-name>
      <servlet-name>AxisServlet</servlet-name>
    </filter-mapping>
    <servlet>
      <servlet-name>AxisServlet</servlet-name>
      <servlet-class>org.apache.axis.transport.http.AxisServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    The doFilter() method looks like this:
    public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException {
           try {
                  chain.doFilter(request, response);
           } finally {
                         javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest httpRequest = (javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest)request;
                         javax.servlet.http.HttpSession session = httpRequest.getSession();
                         session.invalidate();
    Thanks,
    Dmitry Vasilenko

  • Tools for Developing Rich Web Applications

    What tools are others using to Develop Web applications
    against BW 3.5? I have a few years of experience developing web applications using Visual Studio .NET and C#, but the .net PDK is not an option in our current environment.
    I was thinking that writing jsp's would give me the flexibility I needed to develop Rich web applications, but being new to SAP BW I am not sure.
    I am looking for tools in which I can control result sets, write logical code based on users information to filter and return data.
    Please list technologies and Languages.

    Hi Jimmy.  As it relates to SAP,  you can use a couple different technologies.   JSP on the java side, or BSP on the ABAP side will allow you to do pretty much anything you want.  It allows you to use HTML and javascript and also HTMLB.   You could also use Web Dynpro.  Web Dynpro is SAP's new UI strategy.  It is designed to help you create business transactions, so the UI elements are stardard and cannot be modified.  But its cool, because you drag/drop your ui elements in the layout.  Web Dynpro allows you to create robust web applications without coding the UI and allows you to focus on the business logic.  Of course there is some coding to handle UI, and flow, but not as much as when you are developing JSP or BSP.
