PP 2014 CC  - R3D files - Random Green frames with GPU GTX970

Hello
I am struggling with a problem when reading & exporting frames R3D files from a Red epic Dragon. Within the app, in a timeline, certain frames will randomly have a heavy green hue. Green frames will also show up in exported image sequences. PP is using CUDA on Windows 7 and I have a NVIDIA GTX970 with the latest CUDA & driver. I do not have this issue when exporting with the CPU.
It seems that the GTX970 is not validated yet so this could be a  legitimate bug, so I am sharing this info for those looking to buy this card.

Problem fixed!
Someone from the Adobe support team instructed me to change the renderer to software only mode. This can be changed under File>Project Settings>General. More specifically, I changed it from Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Open CL) to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only. I deleted the old render files and reexported without any further issues.
Success!

  • Random Green Frames in Premiere Render and Export Files

    Hello!
I just switched a new MacBook Pro and am having a render issue in Premiere CC. Random green frames pop up sporadically throughout my video. This happens both on my rendered timeline and in the exported file. It seems to affect the clips with heavier color correction. What is happening and how can fix it?
    Here's a link to the video on Vimeo. You will see green frames at 00:04, 00:43, 01:03, 01:39, 01:48, 01:58 and 02:25.
I'm editing on Premiere CC. Most of the clips have heavy effects work (motion, fast color corrector, RGB curves and a circle overlay for vignetting). All footage and project files are stored on a WD My Passport 2TB Portable External USB 3.0.
The footage is from a 5D Mark III set for 1080p IPB, so files are .movs.
Exporting in H.264 with the Vimeo HD 1080p 23.976 preset, not changing any of the preset settings. But again, the issue also occurs pre-export, after rendering on the timeline.

  • Random Green Frames When I Import Video?

    Hello,
I Have Final Cut Pro X and I make videos on youtube as it is my job. I got gaming footage recorded via Eye Tv and Exported it normally as a H.264 and it was 720p HD and a .MP4 File. When I import it onto Final Cut Pro X I See Random Green Frames Just pop out of no where "In The Video" and I have no way of taking it out. Please help ASAP as it is VERY Frustrating .
    Thanks So Much,
Im looking forward to some replys

  • After applying effects random green frames appear

When applying effects, for some reason 1-2 seconds after the effect plays there are green frames in the video. This also has happened when I used the option to slow down the video speed. Its happened to me on all projects that I have used effects on and I don't know what to do.

Do you have two video cards? There's a KB article about green frames occuring on export if you have two video cards.
Are you editing original media or optimized? You might try using optimized media as maybe the encoder is having problems with the h.264 codec.
Also try clearing out all render files from both the event and project and have it re-render everything.

  • Green frames when exporting from CC 2014

Hello. I just updateted to the newest edition of premiere pro(aswell as all the other CC software i have installed which includes phoshop, speedgrade, audition, ame, and after effects). So the versions of the software are the very latest.
My computer is late2013 macbook pro with nvidia graphics card, and i have all the system updates installed, nothing special going on.
    Heres the issue:
When exporting the project, i get random green frames, full green frames. Complitely randomly, no pattern whatsoever.
My workflow have been this: Footage shot with two Sony cameras and i have encoded all the materials to mxf format with one step earlier AME version. I started the project with one step earlier premiere, and i have already done 19 out of 23 sequences that project contains, no problem at all with earlier version of ame&premiere. Now i updated to the latest 2014 cc and these green frames started to pop out randomly. I have not used any plugins or effects, only premieres own threeway colorcorrector and bightness&contrast. Parts of the clip have transparent black video as textbackground with crop effect applied and basic textlayer from premieres own text editor. I have exported few grpahics from aftereffects (both the lates and the one step earlier version) to proress 4444 format as RGP+alpha. And im exporting with using youtube SD widescreen 360p settings, nothing changed. Again, everything worked perfectly before update.
    things i have tried sofar:
delete caches both manually and from each software
    normal boot
    pram reset
    safeboot
    update check
export XML from 2014 cc and import to earlier premiere -> no luck, things got messed up somehow
made a copy of both project files, i compared and changed some version number from 27 -> 26 so i could open the project in earlier premiere -> no luck (this worked back in cs6 time when i had to import cs6 project to cs5.5)
Kinda running out of time, so rest of the night im going to spend re-editing those sequences i have done today with newer version of premiere. Will adobe pay for me for these extra hours, i think my client wont approve one extraediting day(night becaus of the schedule, these must be ready tomorrow with no green frames) because of software problem?
Ask anything you want, i'm 100% sure this is not user error since everything was fine with one step earlier premiere version. I will copy&paste this to the bugreport too.
    Thanks

Temporary solution for this was "export xml" after all. I had to disable all graphics and textlayers and delete colorcorrections, and flatten multicam, so i had to redo all grading ja graphics stuff in older premiere after importin FCP xml. But got the work done in time. Won't use cc 2014 in near future unless someone figures out what is wrong with green frames. (well actually now im exporting from older AME, will she if the green frames pops out there too, wouldn't be too much surprised....)

  • Green Frames in Exported Files

I have noticed, since moving to DSLR 1080p video, that my workflow ends up with lots of seemingly random green frames, and Premiere Pro crashes a lot more.
My system is a brand new system, and I have never had this happen before, on either my old system (running CS3 and SD video).
I have had the green frames appear in 3 different cases, and often, all of them simultaneously: when scrubbing or previewing my timeline, when exporting to a move (mostly I use 264.BlueRay, but it happens with other file types too), and when trying to cross with After Effects (both, importing a timeline into AE, as well as importing an AE project into PP).
I have tried clearing my media chache files and database, changing my memory settings (allocating anywhere from 8-13GB for PP), optimizing for both memory and performance, changing my playback quality, re-installing both PP and AE, changing the Renderer to both "Software Only" and "GPU Accelartion", and restarting.
It is almost like the link manager is not linking to the source file properly, because I can place another clip in the timeline in place of the "green one", and that works, as well, if I manage to export the clip, I can replace the original with the newly exported one, and that works.  I believe this is also the case in regards to the issues I have had trying to work with AE, as it seems as though I am creating too many cross links and it just doesn't like it.  Finally, when I view my task manager, sometimes the "Adobe DT32 Server.exe *32" is using a HUGE amount of memory, just under 1GB itself...this is when PP tends to crash the most.
It is totally possible that I have missed something, or my constant changing of settings isn't helping the situation, or my lack of knowledge of the "technical" end of PP is my downfall, so I am willing to take any recommendations and/or feedback on how to fix this...it is happening with all my projects and is a real pain to try to work around.
I have created a short screen capture video to show what I mean.  The first bit shows the files working in the preview window, but when I overlay the exported .m4v file, you will see that there are green frames exported instead of the proper video (and, as I mentioned, sometimes this just happens when scrubbing and previewing, even without exporting). http://screencast.com/t/AQMWLUC2x
    Thanks!

    Thank you.
It looks like the camera shoots H.264 full-AVCHD, and a couple other similar modes.
If you shot in the full-AVCHD mode, 1920 x 1080, and us that footage in a matching Sequence, there should be no red line above the Clips (sounds like what you have), and the footage should edit just fine on an adequately fast system, providing that you have copied the full folder structure from your camera's card to your system.
You should not need to install any Nikon software to use this footage. That was just in case your camera used MJPEG CODEC, like many other Nikons do/did. For MJPEG, one often finds that they need their camera mfgr's. exact, tweaked version of MJPEG, and that is often installed only with other software from the camera's utility disc. Not your case.
Also, the Nikon AVCHD is not the only footage type displaying the problems.
In my mind, we have ruled out a lot of possibilities, but that does not address your problem - random green Frames.
Sometimes, odd Frames can be a display driver issue, but yours are showing up in the output files too.
You have tried with both MPE hardware ON and OFF.
It does sound like ADL is not doing "its thing" properly, all of the time, but unfortunately, I am at a loss, as to what could be the cause.
Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions, and also for doing a very good post. Wish that I had some ideas on how to test, or suggestions on what the cause might be. As there are not tons of others, shouting "me too," it seems that the issue is either specific to your installations, or your system (seems like you have a more than adequate system, but perhaps Harm, or Bill G. will spot something, that I missed).
    Good luck,

  • Green frame when paused.. what might this be?

    Hi all,
So I'm working with 5D footage. All is well except for two very strange anomalies:
    - Firstly, when I'm in full screen view I don't see the video... I instead see an olive green frame with lighter green vertical lines of the left side of the screen.
    - Secondly, when I'm in using Looks, the lower half of the image within the Looks preview screen is stretched downward (basically, it's messed up).
Are these signs of something that isn't quite right? If so, does anyone know what they point to?
    Thanks

Thanks for all the tips. Yeah, the files are ProRes and the timeline is set correctly. I'll look into the preferences.
And also, thanks for the heads up on not needing the HQ version. I assume that you're referring to the non-HQ choice that is available in Compressor. I wish I had known that before starting the project. It's going to be a long one indeed seeing as I can only play three images at a time and the final product is going to have up to six images playing simultaneously. Ahh well, we learn as we live.

  • FCPX renders green frames

any reason known for this? i see the orange render bar is gone but during playback i see random green frames.
is this a hardware issue? thanks.

There's a Apple support document that might be relevant:
Final Cut Pro X: Systems with two graphics cards may export QuickTime movies with green artifacts
    Symptoms
You may notice green artifacts when you export a QuickTime movie. This can occur on a system that has two graphics cards installed and a display attached to a DVI port on each card.
    Resolution
To work around this issue, only use Final Cut Pro X with a single graphics card installed on your system.

  • Workaround for slow performance and poor resolution with RED R3D files in After Effects CC 2014 (13.0)

    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2014/06/red-r3d-problems-after-effects-cc-2014-13-0.ht ml
The After Effects team are investigating a bug in After Effects CC 2104 (13.0) where RED (.R3D) files are very slow and the image resolution is poor, about 1/8 sampling.
The following workaround has been reported to solve the problems in some cases:
    Save the project.
Choose Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache.
Please post in this thread about whether or not this workaround helped you.

Intentionally cross-linking threads: this issue was first reported in this thread, which has an ongoing discussion:
AE 2014CC RED R3D files support broken - footages looks bad, everything slow.
The thread you are in now is the comment thread for the blog post. Please post in whichever thread makes more sense for you. I am monitoring both.

  • To ART regarding green flickering frames with MPG files

I asked last night about transferring files to PE13 editor and having green frames flickering in play back in Editor. You requested more info:
I took original VHS tapes from 30+ yrs ago from Sony Camcorder. I ran them through Toshiba DVR620KU VHS to DVD recorder. These files were made into .VOB files and saved on hard drive.
I then used CyberLink video editor to trim files and then the program converted and saved them as MPG files to Hard Disk.
Now when I bring these Aspect 4:3 .MPG files into PE13 editor the picture settings are NTSC-Hard Drive, Flash Memory Camcorder-Standard 48kHz. Yet in play mode, the file flickers with green frames.
There are now two green frames for every picture frame. Therefore, the green flickering. I am not sure about picture setting change or where the green frames came from. There is no orange line nor letterbox to indicate
frame mismatch. Also, after rendering there appears to be less green but the film runs to fast and flickers just as bad.
Thanks for following up on this, I look for your reply.  David

    David
    Thanks for the follow up.
I will look for your prior thread and try to get it cross referenced for those following your issue. Please continue in this thread for now.
Do you still have the VOB available that went into CyberLink for trimming? If so, could you try to import the VOB into a new Premiere Elements project with Premiere Elements Expert workspace's  Add Media/Files and Folder/, and then let us know if those VOBs as Timeline content displayed the same irregularities as the CyberLink edited files (presumed MPEG2.mpg)?
In Premiere Elements trimming, copies of the end frame can be made for "handle" purposes or trimmed frame used. I am just guessing at this point that CyberLink's trimming might have introduced a factor that is triggering the Premiere Elements event. Needs to be ruled in or out.
Please review and consider, and I will think about this some more.
    Thanks.

  • Since updated to CC 2014.1 - 6k Red .R3D files appear black when paused

I have a project that was started in the previous version of CC and now we've updated to CC 2014.1 (latest version). I noticed that since the update, when there is a Red .R3D file in the source monitor, it will go black after a few seconds (when the full resolution image would have appeared). I'm viewing the quality in 1/16th. When I scrub or play I can see the footage fine. It is only when I pause that the window soon turns black. If the playhead is over a red .r3d file in the sequence, the same thing will happen. Also, I can't play full resolution either - it will remain totally black.
When I turn off Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration and choose Software Only in the project settings, this problem goes away. However I don't prefer to work that way because other things seem significantly slower.
The video card in this machine is the ATI Radeon HD 5770 - EFI Driver Version: 01.00.436
Any ideas? This is on a Mac Pro (Mid 2010) with latest version of Mavericks.

"This kind of issue…" refers to what? File based camera formats like AVCHD, etc.? As Neil says, there are lots of things that can go wrong with these kinds of formats. Chief among them is not ingesting them correctly, via the Media Browser not File > Import.

  • R3d files previously functional in CC 2014

I have previously used these files and now get and error "unsupported media or corrupt file" The R3d files are able to open in REDCINE X....any solutions?

A screen grab of your sequence settings would be handy. Also, I'm assuming you've checked the sequence settings and sound hasn't somehow been muted or something ...

  • After Effects Rendering Random Black Frames

Latest AE Build: 2014.2 Release. i7 Processor - 64 GB Ram - GForce FTW 680 with 4 GB Video RAM.
AE Project coming from Panasonic P2 files, rendering to AVI Cineform results in random black frames.
I have compared two separate renders of the same clip, both have black frames in different spots. Never had the problem with older versions of AE.
Anyone else having this issue or have an answer?
    Thanks!
UPDATE: Rendered to QT DNxHD and haven't found a Black frame yet. May be Cineform AVI compatibility issue since the addition of Cineform QT  support maybe? Didn't notice it before that. Hmmm.

    Thanks for your reply, Szalam.
Yes, I am very familiar with the bug report process. I wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue hoping that I could find an immediate solution. As it stands, the temporary workaround is to render to something other than Cineform AVI.
Sorry, I am quite busy right now (large project with a short deadline) and don't have the time to do much test rendering. When I get a minute I will definitely do more tests with different codecs etc.
I would be happy to upload some P2 footage when time allows. Is there a way to upload directly to this site, or  is there another preferred method? I haven't attempted uploading files to this forum before.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Still Having Random Red Frame Issues

I've been reading several threads about the dreaded red frames when exporting through Premiere Pro CC or Adobe Media Encoder CC.  I have installed the Premiere Pro CC (7.2.1) update and I have cleared my cache and re-rendered previews for the sequence.  My source clips in my sequence are MXF files (XDCAM HD 35) and I am operating on a Mac OSX-Version 10.8.5
What is really frustrating is that I'm dealing with multiple clips in this format and it is totally random as to which ones are affected.  Sometimes I don't even see the red frame when watching the clip through, but when I export it, it's there.  I know that the fix mentioned in the previous thread was supposed to help those using ProRes files, but the MXF files are still being affected.
Thanks for any and all help.

    Hi Kevin,
I'm still having this problem with the red frame errors.  Also, it's not
limited to Premiere Pro.  Just trying to convert one .mxf file to a .mov or
.mpg file through Media Encoder (while bypassing Media Encoder) is causing
the same issue.  And it's totally random and intermittent with respect to
which file I send through.  Also, sometimes, sending the file that didn't
work the first time back through AME again, sometimes converts successfully
and sometimes doesn't.  There is no constant which makes it very difficult
    to pinpoint the problem.

  • Motion keyframing with .r3d files

Hi, I have a strange issue in Premiere working with .r3d files from the newest Dragon in 5k. I am working with the newest CC 2014 Premiere.
I want to adjust the framing in a 1080p sequence, where I have to keyframe motion in the effects. But whenever I add a bunch of keyframes in succesion to one another to perfectly frame a tracking shot, it loses some of the motion previously keyframed in the same clip. The numbers in the effects still change, but it doesn't show on the actual video.
This is a really annoying problem that I am struggling with.
If anyone knows a solution to this, please let me know. Without nesting or converting the files into a different format, as I need the RAW capabilities for the grade.
    Thanks,
    Dan

Nevermind. I figured it out. For future reference: This was caused by it being a 50fps clip. I had used Time Remapping to bump it up to 200% to get "normal" speed. This is what caused my problems. Doing the speed ramping in Speed/Duration by right clicking worked in combination with Motion.
