PP CS4 won't capture HDV or import m2t files

MacbookPro, OSX 10.6.4
I haven't done a video project for a couple of months, and everything was working then.
But now, I can't import HDV footage captured by OnLocation (.m2t) ("format not supported"), or capture it directly from my video camera (Sony HVR-A1U). There are also no sequence presets for HDV video.
When I try capturing from the camera, my MacbookPro's webcam shows in the previewer, although the controls in the capture window do control the camera (play, stop, rewind etc.). If I go into the capture Settings, no firewire sources are shown.
I can capture HDV from the camera using iMovie (to Quicktime format). In some respects, that is better, since it does HDV scene detection (unlike PP CS4), saving me a little work. But iMovie won't import m2t either so I'll have to find some other way to convert if for use by PP.
I tried reinstalling PP from disks but to no effect. Before I try full unininstall and reinstall , I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has ideas about what is going on with PP.

>no sequence presets for HDV
I don't know if this applys to Mac or not, but I have seen messages saying that PPro will, for some unknown reason, sometimes revert to demo status... which only supports SD video, and nothing that requires any flavor of MPEG

  • Import m2ts files to FCE

    Hi,
I have a problem importing m2ts files from an external HD into fce.
Can I do that without using some kind of converter which will probably do something to the quality.
Another problem is, that when I import directly from the camera(using Log and Transfer) I don't think the quality is as good as if I connect the camera directly to my TV.
I'm using Sony camera HDR-TG7 and Final Cut Express HD
Hope some of you guys can help me..?

In order to ingest .m2ts files into FCE from somewhere other than your camera, you need to have the entire folder (directory) structure that was on your camera's memory card/hard drive. If you only have the .m2ts files themselves, you will need to use something like Clipwrap to convert them to QuickTime before you will be able to import them into FCE and use them.
You could also try MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert them although you may also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component if you do not already have it on your Mac.

  • Problems importing m2ts file in AE CS5.5 trial

I cannot open projects containing m2ts videos, I also cannot import m2ts files into AE 5.5
Any ideas?  I have unistalled and deleted all my preferences with no luck.

Any other version of AE on the system? If so, the relevant MPEG CoDecs might be tied to that version and CS5.5 incorrectly resort to those. short of deactivating the other version and reinstalling CS5.5 once more I can't see a way to fix this...

  • How to import m2t files to CS6 on Mac?

What do I need, in order to import .m2t files into CS6? Do you have any luck with it? (I am new to Mack yet)

Firstly, you can rely on iCloud or iTunes to recovery iPad data, such as recover deleted text messages, photos, notes, restore iPhone contacts, after all, it is free.
    1. Connect your iPad with iTune on computer
    2. Right-click or control-click on the iPad icon under iDevice on iTunes
    3. Select "Restore from Backup" from the given options
    4. After it finishs, your contacts are back to your iPhone
Important Note: This works only if you have made a backup for your data on iTunes.
In case that the iCloud or iTunes cannot help to make a iPad Data Recovery, you can turn to a third party tool.

  • Problems capturing the sound layer when importing m2ts files

Hi all, I'm new to the whole video editing side of things and so would appreciate some help.
I've just acquired a Canon HF200 HD camcorder, and a Sony Vaio notebook which came with Premiere Elements 7.0 pre-installed.
For the last month I've been shooting footage, and just getting down to trying to edit everything and put a DVD together.
The problem I have at the moment (and I've just started using the program, so everything is new to me) is that while I seem to be able to import the m2ts file format in which my camera records, only the video is imported into Premiere - not the audio (it reads the file ok, and no errors appear, but when I go to review the footage there is video but no sound).
I can play all my videos in Windows Media Player just fine, with both video and audio.  So it seems my machine is able to read the files correctly in this program.  However, the audio seems to drop out when I import the file into Premiere.  The program was pre-installed in my machine, and when I go in to have a look at the audio settings, there doesn't seem to be an ability to change the settings to something different.
So far I've spent a long time googling and trying to find a solution, but with no joy just yet.
Appreciate any assistance the anyone can offer.  Is there just a simple setting that I need to change?  Or do I need to somehow convert the files into another format before Elements 7.0 can read them?
    Thanks.
    Jeff

the machine I have seems to comply with the specs required by PE7 (and given that it came with PE7 pre-installed that should be the case).
There are two things to consider:
1.) editing most footage, especially SD material
2.) editing AVCHD, currently the most demanding of all common video formats to edit. This is what you have.
Now, when you launch PrE, you get a splash screen. There you can Open New (create a new Project), Open an existing Project that has been opened recently, or Open a Project by navigating to it. One can also Exit.
In your case, you will go to New and when that dialog box opens, choose the Preset for AVCHD w/ DD 5.1 SS Audio.
Also note, that when in the Edit Mode, there are two View Modes (accessed via two icons to the left of the lower Panel), Timeline View Mode and Sceneline View Mode. For DD 5.1 SS Audio Clips, you will find Timeline View Mode to be the best. Now, you can switch back and forth, but Timeline View Mode will give you infinite control. It is the view that most editing programs use, and that most editors use.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I strongly recommend Steve Grisetti's book, The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 7.

  • Why won't Lightroom (current version) import NEF files?

I have Lightroom v. 5 current, and it fails to recognize and import .NEF files. I use a Nikon D800, and can't directly import the RAW files into Lightroom. It doesn't make sense to me that this fails to work since most instructions seem to assume it does. Perhaps I am overlooking something obvious, but I don't know what.
    Appreciate any help!

You have most likely used an obsolete version of a Nikon Transfer or Nikon ViewNX to work with your NEF files.  Nikon says these old versions change something in the metadata of newer Nikon files that makes them unrecognizable to Adobe products.
Either update your Nikon products to versions that are as new as your D800 camera, or quit using Nikon products to transfer and view your images.
To uncorrupt images that you’ve already transferred or viewed, a utility from this website will correct the problem:

  • Please Help!!! After Effects has stopped importing .m2t files!!!

    Hi there,
I have run into a realtively urgent problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I am making a video in after effects cs4 for a client using footage captured in HDV split that show as .m2t files. I have edited with these files in after effect before, but now all of a sudden when I go to file -> import and select the file I get an immediate "After Effects error: Can't import file" ....."unsupported filetype of extension".
I also noticed it wouldn't let me import .mpg files however .mov files import no problem.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Thanks!! That fixed the problem. I'm not sure why when I searched for updates in after effects it didn't find anything.

  • Importing M2TS file - Trial Version

I try to import some clips copied from a Panasonic HDC-SD9 camera to the HDD. I am using the trial version of CS4. When I try to import a clip, I`ve got an error message that the file format (M2TS) is not supported.
According to the http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS01FCC81E-8CF6-437a-AAD7-A2D8F9175BF0a.html web page the trial version may not support all listed file formats. Could be this the source of the problem?

    Hi there
I think I sorted it. If you look at the Premiere Pro forum, on the right is a box with a link to "Forum Best Practices".
Click the image below for larger view.
Being a good first time poster, you read that. But the problem is, it places you inside the Forum Comments forum. So when you choose to Create a Discussion, you aren't creating the discussion in the Premiere Pro forum. Instead, you are creating it in the Forum Comments forum.
Looks like perhaps a forum mod needs to work on this and create a duplicate thread in the forums in question.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Import .m2ts files to imovie11

I have a sony HDR-SR1. I used PC and sony picture utility to save the .m2ts file in the external hard disk. Now I have a new macbook air and imovie11. How can I directly import the .m2ts files into imovie11?? I don't want to convert the .m2ts files to other format for importing. Thank you.

Why are AVCHD files copied and re-wrapped?
Because they're .mts files and are complete crap for editing. Try to edit them in Premiere. It is truly awful. It's a camera manufacturer's solution with total disregard for the production process. What's so bad about rewrapping?
    To where?
To your Final Cut Events folder.
If I already have a external drive with those files on it why would I make yet another copy of those files?
    See 1.
Still calling it "Optinize" really isn't what's happening is it?
Seems like it to me. It's taking a truly horrible video format and making it into something useable for production in very high quality. What's not optimization about that?
I guess the users should read the manual or get a good book or training DVD.

  • Trying to Import M2TS Files into FCE 4

I read an answer by Tom Wolsky about bringing in AVCHD files that were already downloaded on another system. Tom suggested using MPEG Streamclip to do the work. I downloaded Streamclip and tried to open an M2TS file and convert but I get an error trying to read the M2TS file. I then went to the SQUARED 5 web site, and the supported formates look like it takes M2T but not M2TS. I am thinking because I have a SONY HDR-SR8 HDD camera, the M2TS is the Sony format, and the M2T is probably other AVCHD formats.
Has anyone tried to bring in just the M2TS files? I know that I have posted a few other posts, but after re-reading the requirements, it seems like there is an issue with M2TS and not M2T.
Hope I made this clear. Thanks for any advice on this.
    Gary

I am a noob to Mac, but largely based the switchover from PC for video editing. I have the HDR-SR1 and FCE4. After running into the majority of the stumbling blocks listed in this forum, I have been successful with the following approach - therefore I offer it as a suggestion.
I chose to store the raw footage to an external (target) hard drive.
    1) record footage (in HD)
    2) connect HDR-SR1 via USB, ('no name' disk image on desktop)
    3) on the target drive create a folder name (usually just date range, e.g. 200612_200701) which covers the date range of the footage to be copied
    4) copy an image of the ENTIRE contents of the HDR-SR1 harddrive, such that ALL file name and structure is recreated and paste to the newly created folder
    5) clear the hard drive of the camcorder (using Sony interface after disconnect - just being overly careful)
    6) Use "log and transfer" function and locate the desired folder (e.g. 200612_200701) and click on the Open button - voila! The files are available to be imported to scratch files in FCE4. (The scratch files take up a significant amount of disk space.)
By using a new folder to copy to each time, I can ensure a comprehensive copy of the camcorder contents. The FCE software seems happy enough. There may be an easier way, but this works consistently for me.
    Hope this helps... good luck!
    Scott

  • What is the best way to import m2ts files into iMovie?

I have spent the afternoon reading various forums about converting m2ts files into iMovie.  Transferring the files back onto the HD Sony Handicam is not an option.  I therefore need to somehow convert the files as they stand.  There seems to be 2 main options to convert files from .m2ts to .mov:
    1.  Download MPEG Streamclip; drag clips into window; export to QuickTime and choose Apple Intermediate Codec.
    2.  Download Clip Wrap ($50) to rewrap m2ts files into mov files.
It seems that option 2 is likely to be quicker and easier.  Is this other people's experience?  Any feedback would be extremely helpful.....I am a fairly new Mac user.
    Cheers.

MPEG Streamclip cannot do m2ts files.
Your options are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. Both cost money but should work fine.
I believe Karsten Schlüter has posted some free alternatives on his website. Let me see if I can find his link.
    Here it is. http://sites.google.com/site/karstenschluter/mts-to-mov
You should only need to do this for your existing files. For any files you shoot in the future, you can import them into iMovie directly from your camera, or easier still, from your SDHC card.
A good tip is to create an archive of your clips so that you have the original clips along with the original folder structure. That way you will not have to use ClipWrap or Voltaic on future shoots. You will find the Archive function on the iMovie Import screen when your camera is attached. I am in the habit of 1) creating an archive. 2) Importing to iMovie from the Archive. 3) Making a backup copy of the archive off-site 4) Only then, reformat the camera to clear it out for the next shoot.

  • CS4 crashes on capture HDV

Premier CS4 blue screens as soon as I press capture. I am working on a high end system that has no problem with HDV footage in CS3. In fact it has been incredibly stable and I have never had a blue screen in the two years I have been running it. It is a dual Xeon HP xw8400 with 8GB RAM with a NVIDIA Quadro FX1500 video card running XP x64. It was built specifically for editing and has a dedicated system drive and 4 x 500GB drives for capture. It is not online and only has CS4 and 3DS Max on it. I have added Premier CS3 and that still works perfectly.

Blue screens usually point to severe incompatibilities between OS, IRQ's, drivers, etc. beyond a single application. Try to find which processes are running with Process Explorer and look for memory or IRQ activity with Process Monitor. Have a look at

  • CS4 won't capture after updated to 4.2.1

I have had an interesting problem since upgrading to Premiere Pro CS4 v4.2.1. Whenever I try to open the capture window while the camera is attached and turned on, a blank square/rectangle appears on the screen and eventually if I leave it long enough Premiere crashes. If the camera is not attached then the capture window opens up fine but won't recognise the camera when I do connect it and turn it on.
The camera is a Panasonic NV-GS400. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Whoops! Of course, should have included that relevent information.
    Operating System: Windows XP SP3
And the OS does recognise the camera.
