PP3.0 --Problem Project Manager Trim Software Damages Files

I have a problem that occurs when a Premiere Pro 3.0 project is trimmed using the project manager software.
It occurs mostly with non-captured files- with wav files such as narration, music, and sfx  (they can be  Cd 44.1 files and mono and stereo tracks).  Sometimes, it happens with graphics files.  This problem occurs about half the time the project manger software is used.
In an affected project, there may be any where from 2 to 25 damaged files.  The error message that we get in the trimmed project is “unsupported file formats”.
When we open the non-importable audio files in another application like Sound Forge, they are identified as Raw PCM files.  These Raw PCM files frequently have errors-- like random noises.  The ones that don’t have errors can be saved as a wav file and then it can be re-linked and used.
It is happening on more than one computer.  These computers all have dual 32 bit Xeon processors and at least 3 Gigs of memory.

Could you give me a little more details about using a file manager?
I usually think of a file manager as selecting some files to keep and some file to delete.  I don't think that this will work.  Many of the files use only a small portion of the larger file.  Are you suggesting to keep the larger files even though they may be less thn 5% of the total size?

  • Feature Request: Project Manager Trim Compatibility with all formats please!

It's 2013, Premiere Pro CC is out, and is more "Final Cut Pro" than ever (thanks Adobe), but there are still some basic things that need to be fixed. This is a DOOZY!...
With DSLR media being used pretty much everywhere, the inability to created trimmed projects using Project Manager for H.264 clips (and GoPro clips, and more!) is simply insane. Seriously?
    Help me Adobe.... please...
    thanks
    jesse

Actually, Kevin works right across the San Francisco Bay from where I live. So yes, he is here in the USA.
You will occasionally get some answers around here from people with Indian names, but we are happy to have them on the forums.
The conversation about how to deal with the various codecs has been going on for some time, and the more people who request the feature, the more likely they will get it done. I don't like to say that the squeeky wheel gets the grease, but pretty much? It does!
I know they are thinking about it because of some of the comments I have seen and emails I have received. It appears to be fairly complicated, but personally, I think it is well worth the effort.
I would like to be able to ingest subclips from Prelude without transcoding (I don't use Prelude because it is useless to me without this feature). Once ingested, if I only use part of a clip, I want it trimmed in the Project Manager to just the footage I might need in the future if I have to make minor adjustments. And yes, that includes handles. So if handles solve part of the problem, that's fine.

  • [CS5] Project Manager Trimming not supported for HDV footage?

Yes, I have the licensed version of CS5 Production Premium.
The Premiere Pro "Project Manager" allows you to create a "trimmed" version of your project. That is, only the footage actually used in sequences (along with some handles) is placed in the new, trimmed project. For example, I have a project which uses only 1 second of an 11 second HD Quicktime clip.
original project folder which includes the clip = 352MB.
trimmed project folder is = 26MB
My problem is with a similar project using only a small portion of an HDV clip (M2T):
    original project folder = 232MB
    trimmed project folder = 232MB
There is nothing I can find int the Adobe help file regarding limitations for HDV files with the trim feature. This problem is not limited to CS5. I experienced it also in CS4 but resolving it was not a priority at the time. But I now have a large number of projects I wish to archive.

Jeremy, I am assuming that this is harder to solve, because it gets into Premiere and/or the mainconcept codec being used, not providing smart rendering.  You can't just take the middle of an mpeg clip without rendering.  Premiere could do this, but there would be a quality hit.  Is there any chance we will see a more sophisticated approach to mpeg inside Premiere?  And I am also interested in whether the long gop formats are/might be addressed differently from others.
Todd, here is the CS5 help file that should have this.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7c74a .html
    And it does not.
In earlier versions (I'm still CS3, and I think it was CS3 in which there was this discussion), I found that you could not work around this by creating a subclip.  In fact, the original full clip would be repeated for each instance of the subclip.
If someone adds a comment to this help entry, and it is a weak attempt, do you edit the comment so that the help file is most useful?

  • Project manager trimmed project error

I am using Premiere CS5, and when I go to project manager and try to "Create New Trimmed Project" it starts and then I get following error:
"There was a problem copying or trimming the following \\....\..file loaction. Plase make sure you have enough disk space and that you have the correct user privileges to complete the operation."
I have enough space on all of my HDDs, and also tried opening premiere as administrator.
I tried this with 2 different projects and the fact is that error comes up with .MOV files that were rendered from after effects.
    Thank you for help

    Hi, Rich.
I don't have a solution yet. When I couldn't make Project Manager work, I just dragged and dropped my whole project file onto my archive drive. Next time I need to archive a project, I'll see if any of the advice I received on the forum helps. If it does, I'll let you know.

  • Is there a free (as in free beer) project management type software for Mac?

    Hi guys,
I am looking for free project management software for my iMac. It should be similar to "Planner" on Gnome/Linux. So far, I only found some trial versions of like softwares, but naturally I don't want something that costs extra.
So, what's available along those lines?
    Cheers,

Thanks guys for your help. Guess I got what I needed now..

  • Project Manager Trimmed Temp File Location

    Hello,
I recently tried to trim down a 100GB project. I had 8GB left on my harddrive, and the project manager said the final project would be 7GB, so I took the chance and started trimming.
Unfortunately, I ran out of diskspace during the trim, and the Project Manager aborted the action. Fair enough. However, when I checked my diskspace in finder, I only had 100MB free space. That means the temp file, that the project manager created while trimming the project, is still stored somewhere. But I have no idea where it is stored or what it is named.
    I'm on a Mac 10.6.4, CS5.
Do you know where (or how) to look?
    Thanks,

Where are your Scratch Disks located?
What was the Destination Folder, that you directed PrPro to archive your Project?
Note that performance of a HDD begins to decline at ~ 70% of capacity, and falls off sharply, as one fills the drive. It can also contribute to premature failure of the HDD. Sounds like it's time to get larger, or more HDD's.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Project Manager: Trimmed wavs Don't Play

I created a truimmed project using Project Manager. The project opens up but all of the wav files are blank! If I open one of them in Windows Media Player I get an error message about not having enough memory. And they are tiny files. Normal wav files open fine in WMP.

I just did a test. I created a project and only put one wav file on the timeline and nothing else. I then used Project Manager to create a trimmed project. I opened the trimmed project and sure enough, the new wav file contained no audio. Any ideas?

  • CS4 Project Manager not trimming clips.

Will premiere pro cs4 project manager trim the source clip file size based on in and out points?
I could swear I have done this before last year. When I do a project manager trim is creates a folder, changes the name of the file, but doesn't change the original size.
I created a project and imported just one clip , trimmed in from 1min to 5 seconds and dropped in into a timeline. After the proj mgr export the file wasn't trimmed in the new folder at all. I tried adding handles.

Thanks Jim. That little tid bit doesn't show up in the on-line help.

  • PP 2014 Project Manager not Trimming Clips

Project Manager pretty straight forward however the ProRes clips are not being trimmed. I tried both 24 and 0 (yes radio buttons were selected) but when I reopened the project the clips were full clips.
    thoughts?

I'm having the exact same issue now and it seems to be related to what types of format Premiere supports for trimming.
My project consists of the following file formats:
    XAVC 100Mbit MXF
    XDCAM HD422 .mov
    ProRes 422 .mov
If I remove XDCAM and XAVC from the project, Project Manager trims the clips, but if XAVC and XDCAM is in the project the files doesn't trim.
Adobe Help-page mentions this: "Some formats, such as Long GOP based media files, cannot trim media, or add handles." But it doesn't state what these "some formats" are. XDCAM is Long GOP, but XAVC 100MBit is Intra and shouldn't be affected.

  • CS4 Project manager creates a double copy of footage when there's a subclip. Is this a bug?

    Hi all,
Although I think I can solve this for my project by changing the clip link, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.
I used the project manager to collect all files. It makes a double copy of a 5 GB footage file. It makes an exact copy of the footage adding a _001 to its name. The duplicated file is made for a subclip. The extra copy seems unneeded. The subclip can be linked to the original footage file just like it is linked in the original project.

No It isn't. It is DV  in an .AVI file. I used Collect files so the files shouldn't be trimmed. An identical full length copy of the file was made for the subclip.
I solved it by making the subclip of the new collected project offline and then relinking it to the original file. Then I deleted the extra identical 5 GB file that the project manager created.

  • Project Manager will not collect all files and Start a Complete New Project

As editor of several projects consisting of multiple terrabytes of footage, it's very important to me to be able to use the project manager to collect all files and start a new project. However, this is not happening!! After I've completely finished a project I should be able to save a new "trimmed" project in the desired location of choice. When I use this feature with PrPro CS 4.2.1 - I only get a partial trimmed project that when opened asks where are the missing files. I've also tried using the project manager to collect all files and move to a new location. Again, only a part of my project is being moved!!!! Earlier versions of the PpPro had no problems with this function. I've got two systems and both of them are identical in actions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    BBTv

How can one do that if each project has thousands of pieces of video, text templates, music scores, photoshop documents, after effect files and so on? The number of different folders per project is almost mind boggling. Any help at all in a quick fix or update or anything would be greatly appreciated. I don't have any problem with my other editing programs and have run earlier versions of PrPro that had no problems with collecting all the files within a project and exporting them to a new location throught project manager either in trimmed or full projects. I really hate to have to start using Final Cut again because of such an easy issue. I know I'm overlooking something and any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Best way to export clips with effects, like project manager

First of all I would like to say hello to everybody, cause this is my first post, thanks in advance for your help.
    The problem:
I'm running adobe premiere pro cs06 on a mac and what I want to do seems simple but is very difficult. I import material from an Alexa camera, putting all the clips to the timeline and add some effects to the clips, too.
Now I want to export all changed clips with the same codec, filename and timecode, just like I can do, when I use the project manager to consolidate my files.
So the goal is an easy way to add effects and export same as source?!
    Again thank you very much
    Cheers
    Bird

Thank you for your answers so far,
First I dont want to export to the arriraw format, what I want to export to is prores444. The reason why is simply because there are some effekts that might speed up my workflow, let me explain:
Most jobs I do the following, I work as a DIT and colorcorrect footage from lots of cameras on set and export them to any kind of codec using davinci resolve.
The most time consuming progess is the neutralizing of all the different camera models..
With plugins like re:match from re:vision it could save me some time, due to its good auto correction, which would give me a good starting point for my further colorcorrection.
But in order to be faster than my normal way, I need to have some auto or same as source export funktion. Although when the clips match the original metadata I will have no problems in the later stages of my workflow.

  • Project Manager Moving After Effects Linked Files

    Hi!
When using the project manager to move the files in Premiere Pro dynamically linked After Effects files are not moved. How can you move After Effects files with the project manager?

    Hey friends!
The problem hides insight the path-length of the files that are been created by collecting!!!
In most cases the collect-based generated folder-paths will be to long. The problem isnt inside the folder structure of the original project.
Try to collect the whole project onto your desktop and everything should be fine.

  • Project Manager ruins timecode and tape name

After picture locking a sequence, I tried using Project Manager with the "collect files and copy to new location" option to consolidate for the colorist.
Unfortunately, the resulting files all lack tape names, and have incorrect timecode.  This is a serious problem, obviously, since the colorist will never be able to relink these clips.  Has anyone else gotten this process working?
I then tried cleaning the media cache database, and I ran the Project Manager again with the same settings.  This time, it created files with proper tape names, and incorrect timecode.
This project contains clips from multiple cameras, and the only ones having this problem are from a Sony FS700.

    That's a great idea.
Importing the sequence into a new PP project brings the accurate timecode and tape names, so it's easy to export all the clips.  But after queueing them up and exporting QuickTimes in AME, the new files all have timecode starting at zero and no tape name!  WTF??
Here is a screenshot with proof.  You can see file 00001.MTS in Premiere with timecode starting at 46:10:20 and in AME starting at zero.
