PPBM5 - questions

Hello,
I have been using premiere for years and finally decided to do this ppbm5 test as my system doesnt seem to be as fast with CS6 as it should be.
Specs are
i7 2600k @ 4.6GHz
32GB
1600mhz ddr3 @ 9,9,9,24, 3t
primary drive OCZ Agility 3 64gb windows 7 64bit
primary premiere drive RAID 0 4TB- Western digital blacks 2TB X 2
Media cache drive OCZ Agility 128GB
all running on a p8p67 sata 6gb/s
Graphics card is geforce 285 1gb but i also run with 460 1gb  but have determined 285 is 15% quicker with testing for what i do... so 285 is in currently
When rendering on cs6 to h264 output with some effects that are not cuda enabled i am getting 50% cpu utilization and around 15% GPU does that sound about right?
I am running the ppbm5  benchmark at the moment so i will get back with results..
I couldnt find microsoft avi in the export dialogue but i chose AVI
I dont have bluray preset HDTV 1080i 29.97 High Quality. so i used HD 1080i 29.97
please let me know if this will affect my benchmarks
thankyou
Oliver

p.s not sure why it says 276 for diskio when i ran the test and timed myself it was 2minutes 50 seconds and when i ran the output module it told me the diskio was at 230mb/s which i would expect from this raid0.
When you run the test, the first step in the whole process is creating the destination file. Then the source material is fetched, all the clips are 'glued' together and as a last step, the final results (37 GB) are written to disk. When that writing is completed, Windows adjusts the modified timestamp of the file that was created as the first step. What is measured is the difference between the creation and modified timestamp, which is accurate to 1 second. It may look like the test has already finished, but Windows may still need time to do the last writing on the AVI file and adjust the modified timestamp after all the writing. This delay can depend on the degree of cache buffering that the system can use.
There is one thing I'm not sure about and that is the internal intelligence of PR CS6. In comparison to CS5, where identical clips or sequences were cached, CS6 lost that capability. That is the explanation for the lousy MPEG2 results in PPBM5 for CS6 versus CS5. In this test we use over 1600 identical clips. If the program is smart, it will only read a single clip, but if it is not smart, it will read all 1600+ clips from disk. My feeling is that this is what happens, but I cannot substantiate it.
This means reading 37 GB from disk, gluing them together and then writing one single 37 GB file to disk. What this basically means is that you have 37 GB of 'random' reads and one 37 GB sequential write in this test. However the results are presented as if writing the file is the only activity. The reported transfer rate is only based on the writing speed and disregards the reading speed.
Let me give you an argument for this assumption. This is the HD Tune file benchmark result for my array:
The read speed is in excess of 3.5 GB/s and the write speed is almost 4.0 GB/s. Yet my PPBM6 results show only a transfer rate of 1,686 MB/s, less than half of what HD Tune reports, and Crystal DiskMark, AJA and other tests for that matter. Here is the Crystal DiskMark:
Again the PPBM6 result is only around half of the reported speed on this test, so my feeling is that the 'dumb' reading of 1600+ identical clips causes these rather disappointing transfer rates in our test, but it is statistically more accurate to use these hard figures from Windows, than applying coefficients to the calculated figures.
I'll have a closer look at your performance charts and let you know what my thoughts are.

  • PPBM5 Questions and GPU Rendering Concerns

Bill and Harm, i figured i woud post this here instead of a private email so as to get some opinions and input from others.
I am a bit confused with the logic behind the gpu testing and want to make sure i understand how this is working and make sure i dont have any problems with my machine.
I just wiped out my 8 core, 20GB ram, SSD, gtx 460/2GB, machine and put a fresh win7/64 on it with cs5 and nothing else.
i am planning on doing various tests with the SSD, then SATA Raid, then my 4gbit fibrechannel in combinations.
My concern is over the gpu acceleration and timeline rendering. My basis for wanting these gfx cards with cs5 is on the PPBM results showing all kinds of double digit speed gains with MPE enabled.
I have 8 of these machines and need to upgrade them all so i am concerned to make sure what i am doing and what i am getting for it.
my first obvious question for everyone else is when you load the benchmark in what do you see on the timeline? i have all yellow except for two small red lines near the end of each section where the curtain and cube effects are at.
Now when i hit the spacebar to play the timeline at starts out ok but then hits the 8 second mark into it and chokes out the rest of the way skipping frames and drawing maybe 3-5 frames per second until it gets through the rest.  Is this what happens for everyone else or does your system play the yellow area smoothly?
Is this a by-product of my manually putting the 460 into my supported cards file and premiere not properly calculating what the gpu can and cannot accelerate?
Now as for the benchmark testing itself when i hit enter it simply renders out those 2 effects that have the red line then starts playing the same choked out skippy video as before.
So if this speed is calculated and then the speed of my cpu rendering the entire timeline then how is this an effective comparison? if i simply remove those two effects at the end then i still have that big complicated timeline and yet if i hit enter it just plays choppy video instantly and nothing is rendered, so compared to my cpu thats a bazillion times faster but i dont get anything out of it as the video doesnt actually play with the gpu.
My real concern and need is flat out rendering speed for encoding. i had high hopes that getting a video card with hundreds of cores on it would magically render out mpeg 2 files 10-20x faster then my cpus can.
i saved out a pic of my cores when i am playing the timeline, you can see they are not being maxxed out.
Before i wiped my system out i tried the trial version of the mainconcept gpu encoder and it went slower with the gpu than it did with my cpus. Their email response to me was that gpu rendering is more of an advantage against slow cpu systems. and my cpu's were too fast in comparison. I find this hard to believe in that my system is several years old now. thier own performance comparison charts show a tremendous speed increase over modern I7 processors.
On a side note - DONT INSTALL MAINCONCEPT TRIAL ENCODER!- it hijaacked my mpeg encoding/decoding even when i wasnt using it and it was watermarking all my stuff in premiere with its logo!
I also have been using a program called canopus procoder which does great encoding with multi cores, a standard dv to mpeg2 encode on my system maxxes all 8 cores and renders about 14x faster than realtime.
I hoped a cuda card could increase this speed for me and render faster then that directly out of premiere. I would think during rendering your cpu's and gpu's would work together at 100% usage to go as fast as possible. i would like to see 20-30x realtime speed for mpeg2 encoding in my situation.
Thanks and i look forward to any input or help or even a simple "click on this and yoru problem is solved"

harm, thats kind of funny actually, you show us a report of your dropped frames on playback then say you cant tell us how because of NDA, yet we obviously know you have an app that reports the dropped frames during playback
But thats ok, anyways as far as your ppbm goes i love it and dont mean to desparage it in any way, i have been a big supporter and love the work you and bill have put into it. I am really just trying to have a better understanding of how it works.
My concern is more about premiere as opposed to ppbm.  I want to know if my system matches what everyone else sees, when i load the project is get this:
i just want to make sure everyone else has the same tiny red sections that premiere feels it can't play.
previously premiere has always either played in realtime at 30fps or shown a red line which needs to be rendered. then if you render it you get full 30fps playback on the entire timeline.
now with this new gpu workflow i can only render those two tiny little red sections and the rest of my timeline plays at about 2 or 3 fps from 8 seconds into the timeline until the end.
So I actually have no physical way to see my video at full 30fps without changing to software mode and rendering the entire timeline?  or am i missing something here?
Isn't premiere supposed to recognize when it cant keep up with 30fps playback and change that section of the timeline to red?
And on a side note i still have to say i am fairly annoyed that an adobe employee took it upon themselves to move my thread into the unpopular generic premiere hardware forum, when this is a very specific premiere cs5 question thread. I have never even looked in this forum for any cs5 posts before now and had hoped to get more feedback from users in the main premiere cs5 forum.  A lot of companies like to treat their customers well and the old addage "the customer is always right" doesn't seem to apply anymore. My company probably has purchased over $1,000,000 in adobe software licenses over the years which i feel would make me a valuable customer, and i have some important questions i need to ask about the new version of your software and how it is supposed to work.
    thanks

  • PPBM5 Disk Layout Question

    Greetings all,
First - a big thank you to everyone who has taken time to document and post information about their computer builds and optimizations.
I have just completed a build that is currently at #154 on the CS6 list and I'd like to see if further optimizations are possible.
    Current relevant stats are:
    ASUS P9X79 WS Motherboard
Core i7 3930K (stock at time of PPBM5 submission, 3.8 OC now)
    32GB Corsair Dominator GT RAM
    GTX 680 4GB (GeForce)
    Samsung 840 SSD (OS & Programs) 6Gbps SATA - C:
    WD Veloc 10K on 6 Gbps SATA - D:
    WD Veloc 10K (x2) on Marvell RAID 0 - E:
    Seasonic 1200w Gold PS
    Caselabs Magnum 8 Case
    Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler
Noctura 120mm Case Fans (2 in, 1 out)
First Question - When I ran PPBM5, I only had the OS SSD Drive C: and one WD Velociraptor 10k Drive D:, so I put the project on D: and followed the instructions and submitted the result. Now that I have the RAID 0 Drive E:, I don't see how, per the benchmark instructions, to take advantage of the multiple drives that I have by splitting up media, scratch, export, etc. It looks like everything must reside on one drive, or the VB script that collects the stats can't find what it needs.
Secondly, when I ran the benchmark again, I moved everything over to the RAID 0 Drive E: and it didn't seem to improve the results at all. Per CrystalDiskMark, I'm getting about 190MB/s Read & Write on the Single WD Veloc 10K (Drive D:). CrystalDiskMark shows 357MB/s Read but only 175 MB/s Write on the RAID0 Drive E:. Is this asymetrical Read/Write speed normal, or am I missing something obvious in my setup?
Any suggestions or tips to get this PPr noob on the right track would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for everyone who contributes to this body of knowledge. And a special thanks to Harm and Bill for putting together the benchmarks.
    John
Edited to add: I am aware of the inherit risks of RAID0. This system is not in "production" yet, and if the entire box went up in smoke, I have everything backed up in multiple other places. If the collective wisdom indicates that I don't have enough disks to make RAID worthwhile at this point, I'm perfectly happy to ditch the RAID and use the disks individually. In either case, I'm quite particular about backing up critical data and have procedures in place to make sure everything is protected.

    John,
To be accurate, in the overall ranking your system is at rank # 154, but in the CS6 ranking, your system is at rank # 36.
It is a nicely balanced system. See below:
All the scores are around the upper quartile, Q3 and - not surprisingly - the Disk test is the relative weakest link, but of course that can be attributed to the single disk when testing. The cheapest and quickest way to further improve your results is by overclocking. Maybe you can reduce some overhead by diligent tuning, setting unneeded services to manual according to the Blackviper list and reducing processes at startup, but nothing more comes to mind with your hardware, unless you are willing to spend a lot more on disks and a dedicated raid controller.
You have a well performing and balanced system that ranks #3 among non-overclocked systems.
I can only guess that this is caused by the rapid depletion of the cache memory on the disks, causing the write speed to reflect more of its real physical speed. It could also be influenced by fragmentation of the disks. When I use Crystal Disk Mark on my array, I get results like:
In my case I have, next to the 64 MB cache on each disk (21 of them), 4  GB of dedicated cache on the controller. That makes a difference.
BTW, how do you like the Magnum M8? I have the TH10 and consider it the best chassis I have ever seen. Like to hear your opinion about it. You may have already seen this, but if not, look at Intro Part 1

  • New Calculated field question. Complicated I think.

I have managed to create this table from a MySQL database: http://ppbm5.com/DB-PPBM5.php
The field 'Total' is a calculated field using this SQL query:
    $query_Recordset1  = 'SELECT *, `Disk I/O`+`MPEG2-DVD`+`H264-BR`+IFNULL(`MPE On`,`MPE  Off`) As Total, `CPU`*`Cores` As Phys_Cores FROM `Personal_data` WHERE 1  ORDER BY (`Disk I/O`+`MPEG2-DVD`+`H264-BR`+IFNULL(`MPE On`,`MPE Off`)),  `Date & Time` ASC';
So far, so good, but as you may have  noticed, there is a next field called 'Rel. Perf.' which only contains  blanks. And that is where my problems start.
The table is sorted by 'Total' and the first record shows these figures and field names that are relevant for my question:
Fields: 'Total'  'Disk I/O'  'MPEG2-DVD'   'H.264-BR'   'MPE On'   'MPE Off'
    Values:  131,        67,              21,                  37,              6,              64
    In addition, I use four 'weight' figures, let's say these are 0.27 , 0.30 ,  0.20 and 0.23 denoted as W1, W2, W3, W4.
First step is to calculate four temp values, using a formula like this resulting in T1, T2, T3 and T4:
    T1 = W1 x  Total /Disk I/O; T2 =  W2 x Total/MPEG2-DVD ; T3 = W3 x Total/H.264-BR ; T4 = W4 x Total/(IFNULL(MPE On, MPE Off)
Note that this only applies to the top record and here the SUM(T1, T2, T3, T4) results in 131, equal to the Total.
    The result of 100 x SUM(T1, T2, T3, T4)/ Total = 100 should be the 'Rel.Perf.' result for the top record.
Now  is gets difficult. Let me call the records R1, R2, R3, ..., Rx. Now, in  the previous step we have established that the figure 100 should into  R1.
    For R2 the result of the 'Rel.Perf.' is 100 x SUM(T1 x Disk  I/O(2), T2 x MPEG2-DVD(2), T3 x (H.264-BR(2), T4 x (IFNULL(MPE on, MPE  Off)))/ Total(2)
    For R3 the result of the 'Rel.Perf.' is 100 x  SUM(T1 x Disk I/O(3), T2 x MPEG2-DVD(3), T3 x (H.264-BR(3), T4 x  (IFNULL(MPE on, MPE Off)))/ Total(3)
etcetera for all the rest of the records in the table.
A  complicating factor is that the reference point of the top machine  should remain fixed at 100, but when doing queries, the top machine may  not be in the query results, but all the query results for the Rel.Perf.  should be derived from these scores. Life would be infinitely easier if  one would be certain that the top machine is fixed, but that is not the  case.
Sorry to make this such a long and complicated post, but  for those who have struggled through this long message, if you have any  suggestions on how to make this work, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Harm, while non is intended.
PS. I have been trying to generate a SQL query, using the following code:
    $query_Recordset1 = 'SELECT *, FORMAT(`Disk I/O`+`MPEG2-DVD`+`H264-BR`+IFNULL(`MPE On`,`MPE Off`),0) As Total, FORMAT((54.661*`Disk I/O`+161.25*`MPEG2-DVD`+71.66666*`H264-BR`+645*IFNULL(`MPE On`,`MPE Off`))/129,1) As RPI,`CPU`*`Cores` As Phys_Cores FROM `Personal_data` WHERE 1 ORDER BY 54.661*`Disk I/O`+161.25*`MPEG2-DVD`+71.66666*`H264-BR`+645*IFNULL(`MPE On`,`MPE Off`), `Disk I/O`+`MPEG2-DVD`+`H264-BR`+IFNULL(`MPE On`,`MPE Off`) ASC';
For static work it is OK, but not when a new top performer submits his data.

    Hi William,
Per my understanding that you want to count the number of the value in the field wait which is smaller then 15, right?
I have tested on my local environment and that you can add the calculated field (Count) using the expression as below:
    =IIF(Fields!wait.Value<15,1,0)
Insert an outside group row and then get the total count by using below expression:
    =SUM(Fields!Count.Value)
Preview you will get the result like below:
If your problem stil exists, please try to provide some sample data and the exprect count result you want.
Any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Form question. It looks simple, but is it...?

    I have this form:
The image says it all, how can I move the circled text up to align with the top of the comments box and use multiple lines of text there, instead of at the bottom as it currently is?
    The form.php code is attached.http://www.millcon.nl/Harm/form.php
The whole page is here: http://ppbm5.com/submission.html

    Ben,
    Thanks again for your help.
First, some background on myself, so you know you have to take it easy...
My programming background is from the days of Basic, Fortran, Cobol, RPG and - my favorite - APL. I did program econometric and statistical applications, using adanced techniques like ARIMA (auto-regressive integrated moving average) models similar to Box-Jenkins approaches. I have never progressed from APL to other, more modern languages, like C++, Java and the like. Matt Iverson is still my example of how to create A Programming Language (APL).
My business (HR consultancy) nor my hobby, videography and video editing, required me to learn these new languages.
A couple of months ago I started with DW CS4, which I have as part of the MC, because I wanted to create, together with Bill Gehrke, a new website for benchmarking hardware setups, specific for Premiere Pro CS5. See: http://ppbm5.com . Next I did a similar thing for my daughter, see http://poffertjes.ch
One of the problems we encountered with the way we worked in the past was that people had to submit their data by filling out questions posed in a VB script. Some left out relevant deatils, others made typo's like 10,000 instead of 1,000 for disk capacity, others named their video card 470 Gtx while others named them GTX 470 and so on. This caused us a lot of hard work and time to safeguard consistency in the Excel spreadsheet that we publish on the http://ppbm5.com/Benchmark5.html page.
With that in mind, I used a form maker to generate the php files to ease the burden a bit. See: PHP Form Mail Maker - A free tool to create ready-to-use web mail forms with customized auto response email | F.A.Q about PHP FormMail Generator
Now, the info I have given was not complete, in the sense that this form generator gives you three files in a ZIP file:
    1. form.php, which is the layout of the form
    2. form.lib.php which is used for the auto-response mail, and
    3. admin.php for maintenance of the form and downloading CSV data from the forms submitted.
(I have sent these to you by PM, because of privacy considerations)
Your suggestions make a lot of sense. However, stupid noob that I am, I don't know where to paste your #php formatting statements. I deleted the OL class line and pasted your formats, but that is obviously not the way to go about is. Second problem I have is that the error correction on required fields no longer shows up correctly. Third issue is that in IE the form looks reasonably OK, the space between the comments box is slightly larger than the rest of the text, but FF leaves no space between them.
If you ever have a question about Premiere Pro or hardware, I may be able to help you, but here I'm lost.
PS. An autodidact is someone who had an idiot as a teacher. That applies to me.

  • Sortable PPBM5

This is a question/demo for Harm and Bill and any others with good ideas. Soon after finding the awesome PPBM5 while researching a new system, I found myself wanting to sort the information by different criteria. After importing the data into excel and finding/fixing all the merged cells that the sort feature choked on, I was able to look at the data from many different angles. Trends and averages quickly jumped off the page.
This brought up the question... Would others like to have this functionality as well?
I thought that maybe they did so I turned to Google docs. Now this solution is far from perfect, google docs has a long way to go in the public sharing and permissions department. This would truly be fantastic if you could lock the data but keep the table sortable, you can't at the moment, maybe in the future. The other downfall to this solution is that sorting the table changes everyones view of the data. There are other minor issues with the way the data was entered that corrupts the sorting, like the "D1, Q1, Q3, etc..." but this is easily fixed.
So I'm here looking for suggestions and feedback, is there a solution out there that I'm not aware of??
    Let's discuss...
Demo (please sort and play with): https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AlL82-2gDhFTdHVjbmpHN1FfRDVkN19sU1ozSnlWUEE&hl=en &authkey=CP6IuJEB

I named the PPBM directory a bit different, I guess
that's why " statistics " could not be opened.
After naming PPBM correctly the test went flawlessly.
    Thanks.

  • Solid state "disk" problem (additional to benchmark PPBM5 problem)

Just to give the discussion the right name from this point on. The benchmark PPBM5 test, as discussed in an earlier discussion, has led (thanks to Bill Gehrke) to the conclusion that the disk setup is very poor, and possibliy causes the problems in my system.
Asking the company who build the system they answerd that the OS and programma's are located a solid state (principally a faster system than a normal drive)  C.
The projects run on two other disks D and E (1T),  7200 rpm and a third disk H (750G) 7200rpm.
    The question is:
    1.     Does PPRO and Audition  accept the "solid state configuration? Can this maybe gives the problem of slow working drives
    2.      If solid state is not accepted by Adobe, is is advisable to run the OS (Windows 7)  on the solid state C and place all other programms on a seperate disk D?
    3.       Or is it advisable to replace the (principally faster)  solid state module for a fast normal drive 72000 rpm. with the OS and all the programms on it?

3   If you have a 72,000 rpm disk drive it might be as fast as the SSD

  • Thank you for contributing data to PPBM5

We just have posted the the 1000 entry on the PPBM5 web site.  Thank you all for contributing valuable information for users of this forum.  Not sure yet what will happen along the PPBM6 lines but it still is a dream that might happen.  In the meantime we do have 45 records of people testing CS6 with the PPBM5.5 version of our benchmark, you can see these results if you select the "Version" tab and clicking on the CS6 radio button.

  • Questions on Print Quote report

    Hi,
I'm fairly new to Oracle Quoting and trying to get familiar with it. I have a few questions and would appreciate if anyone answers them
    1) We have a requirement to customize the Print Quote report. I searched these forums and found that this report can be defined either as a XML Publisher report or an Oracle Reports report depending on a profile option. Can you please let me know what the name of the profile option is?
    2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.

Does it mean that the profile in our case is set to call the rdf since it has reference to ASOPQTEL.rdf in the above url?
    3) When you click on submit button do we have something like this in the jsp code: On click call ASOPQTEL.rdf. Is the report called using a concurrent program? I want to know how the report is getting invoked?
    4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.
    Thanks and Appreciate your patience

    http://<host>:<port>/dev60cgi/rwcgi60?PROJ03_APPS+report=/proj3/app/appltop/aso/11.5.0/reports/US/ASOPQTEL.rdf+DESTYPE=CACHE+P_TCK_ID=23731428+P_EXECUTABLE=N+P_SHOW_CHARGES=N+P_SHOW_CATG_TOT=N+P_SHOW_PRICE_ADJ=Y+P_SESSION_ID=c-RAuP8LOvdnv30grRzKqUQs:S+P_SHOW_HDR_ATTACH=N+P_SHOW_LINE_ATTACH=N+P_SHOW_HDR_SALESUPP=N+P_SHOW_LN_SALESUPP=N+TOLERANCE=0+DESFORMAT=RTF+DESNAME=Quote.rtf
Does it mean that the profile in our case is set to call the rdf since it has reference to ASOPQTEL.rdf in the above url?
Yes, your understanding is correct.3) When you click on submit button do we have something like this in the jsp code: On click call ASOPQTEL.rdf. Is the report called using a concurrent program? I want to know how the report is getting invoked?
No, there is no conc program getting called, you can directly call a report in a browser window, Oracle reports server will execute the report and send the HTTP response to the browser.4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.
This is detailed in many threads. Thanks

  • Satellite P300D-10v - Question about warranty

    HI EVERYBODY
I have these overheating problems with my laptop Satellite P300D-10v.
I did everything I could do to fix it without any success..
I get the latest update of the bios from Toshiba. I cleaned my lap with compressed air first and then disassembled it all and cleaned it better.(it was really clean insight though...)
BUT unfortunately the problem still exists...
So i made a research on the internet and I found out that most of Toshiba owners have the same exactly problem with their laptop.
Well i guess this is a Toshiba bug for many years now.
Its a really nice lap, cool sound (the best in laptop ever) BUT......
So I wanted to make a question. As i am still under warranty, can i return this laptop and get my money back or change it with a different one????
If any body knows PLS let me know.
    chears
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
I have already found you other threads.
    Regarding the warranty question;
If there is something wrong with the hardware then the ASP in your country should be able to help you.
The warranty should cover every reparation or replacement.
But I read that you have disasembled the laptop at your own hand... hmmm if you have disasembled the notebook then your warrany is not valid anymore :(
I think this should be clear for you that you can lose the warrany if you disasemble the laptop!
By the way: you have to speak with the notebook dealer where you have purchased this notebook if you want to return the notebook
The Toshiba ASP can repair and fix the notebook but you will not get money from ASP.

  • Anyone know how to remove Overdrive books from my iphone that have been transferred from my computer? They do not show up on itunes. I see a lot of answers to this question but they all are based on being able to see the books in iTunes.

How do I remove Overdrive books from the library that were downloaded onto my computer then transferred to my iphone? The problem is that they do not show up in iTunes.
I see this question asked a lot when I google, but they always give answers that assumes you can find the books in iTunes either under the books tab, or the audio books tab or in the music. They do not show up anywhere for me. They do not remove from the app like the ones I downloaded directly onto my iphone.the related archived article does not answer it either.  I even asked a guy working at an apple store and he could not help either.   Anybody...?
    Thanks!

there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory

  • Basic question

Hello, i have a basic question. if i have defined 2 fields in a cube or a dso:
    Name Quantity
and from the external flat file i get some characters for my quantity field. would my load fail?  for standard dso and for write optimized?
NOTE: quantity field is a keyfigure defined as numeric.
and the load coming in has "VIKPATEL" for Quantity field and not numbers.
    thanks

    Hi Vik,
    Yes, the load will fail.
May be you coud first load this data into BW (into PSA) and set both fields as characters fields. Then you can create DSO, do transformation from this PSA to the DSO, and put your logic as to what do you want to do with those Quantity that is not number (e.g. convert to 0, or 'Not assgined', etc).
You can use transfer rule, or a clean up ABAP code in the start routine.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mid 2010 15" i5 Battery Calibration Questions

    Hi, I have a mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro 2.4GHz i5.
Question 1: I didn't calibrate my battery when I first got my MacBook Pro (it didn't say in the manual that I had to). I've had it for about a month and am doing a calibration today, is that okay? I hope I haven't damaged my battery? The calibration is only to help the battery meter provide an accurate reading of how much life it has remaining, right?
Question 2: After reading Apple's calibration guide, I decided to set the MacBook Pro to never go to sleep (in Energy Saver System Preference) and leave it on overnight so it would run out of power and go to sleep, then I'd leave it in that state for at least 5 hours before charging it. When I woke up, the light on the front wasn't illuminated. It usually pulsates when in Sleep. Expectedly, it wouldn't wake when pressing buttons on the keyboard. So, what's happened? Is this Safe Sleep? I didn't see any "Your Mac is on reserve battery and will shut down" dialogues or anything similar, as I was asleep! I've left it in this state while I'm at work and will charge it this afternoon. Was my described method okay for calibration or should I have done something different?
Question 3: Does it matter how quickly you drain your battery when doing a calibration? i.e is it okay to drain it quickly (by running HD video, Photo Booth with effects etc) or slowly (by leaving it idle or running light apps)?
    Thanks.

    Fresh J:
A1. You're fine calibrating the battery now. You might have gotten more accurate readings during the first month if you'd done it sooner, but no harm has been done.
A2. Your machine has NOT shut down; it has done exactly what it was supposed to do. When the power became critically low, it first wrote the contents of RAM to the hard drive, then went to sleep. When the battery was completely drained some time later, the MBP went into hibernation and the slepp light stopped pulsing and turned off. In that state the machine was using no power at all, but the contents of your RAM were still saved. Once the AC adapter was connected, a press of the power button would cause those contents to be reloaded, and the machine would pick up again exactly where you left off. It is not necessary to wait for the battery to be fully charged before using the machine on AC power, but do leave the AC adapter connected for at least two hours after the battery is fully charged. Nothing that you say you've done was wrong, and nothing that you say has happened was wrong.
A3. No, it does not matter.

  • Jabber/WebEx Connect SSO Questions

I've got a few questions around exactly what needs to be done to get SAML working for our Connect accounts to successfully authenticate from Jabber for Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android.
We have both a Meeting Center and Connect account under WebEx using Loose Coupled Integration. Just this past week I enabled SAML for our Meeting Center accounts which went off without a hitch with the exception of Meeting Center integration with Jabber, which is now broken with a message about SSO enabled Meeting Sites not being supported (I think this would maybe be fixed if we had Tight Coupled Integration with our two account?).
    Anyway, my questions are...
For Windows, I understand all clients will need to be reinstalled with the MSI argument for the SSO_ORG_DOMAIN switch I've read about, is that correct? Are there any other switches needed for the reinstall?
How will this work with the Mac and mobile clients? There's obviously no command line options to specify for the installations here, will they just know to kick over to my IdP for authentication once they see an email address that falls under an org with SSO enabled? If so, why does the Windows client need to be completely reinstalled and not just know to find the IdP from the Cloud Connect service like Meeting Center does with the Productivity Tools?
We're just doing this for our Connect Web IM accounts, not attempting any sort of SSO with the phone accounts/UC integration yet.
Any ideas on getting the Meeting Center integration into Jabber working again?

I'd suggest posting your question over on the Jabber Pilot forum, as this forum is specific to Jabber Guest questions:
