PPC Dual 2.0 Ram/Ram slot problem

Hey there folks. I'm hoping someone has seen this before and can help me out. I've been having problems with RAM. It's a mix of bad ram and what I believe are bad ram slots. I've isolated the bad ram and removed it from the machine. With the good ram I have found that every other slot has a problem. If I put a pair of good ram in the Zero slots, it works fine. If I put them in the next slot they show has having a problem in the hardware test AND if I just let the machine boot, the ram will appear in the hardware profiler, BUT it will only post half its value. The machine will run fine for a bit, but then applications will vaporize, there will be eternal SWODs..etc etc .. making the machine unusable.
I've got a work-around for now. I just use the first and third slots and leave the second and fourth slots empty.
Any ideas on what the problem is? ... How to fix it?
Thanks very much for your input.
Cheers,
Jeff

yeah.. I don't think the Crucial memory will work in those slots either... I haven't tried, but all the ram that seems good and works as a stand-alone pair in the first and third slots, doesn'twork in the second and fourth... I'm much more suspicious of the motherboard/memory slots...

  • G3 to G4 / 1 beep / RAM or Startup Problem post-reconfiguration

This problem started when I moved from a G3 Yikes machine to a G4 AGP Graphics machine.
The items in use in the G3, making the trek to the G4 are...
    2 Internal drives
    1 internal SCSI drive
    1 Adaptec SCSI card
    1 MOTU 324 Card
    and possibly....
The video card from the G3 as an additional video card for a second monitor.
Both machines have run fine from these drives, which have included the latest OS X and system 9.1 (which according to all reports and my tests is the latest system with which the SCSI card/drive will work properly)
The G3 right up till the transfer of gear was running fine on new PC100 RAM, 4 - 256 Mb sticks, the max for it, and usable in the G4, theoretically. The G4 up till the transfer was running fine with 2 RAM sticks of PC100 RAM, one 128 and one 64.
After I got all the drives, cards and RAM transfered over, secured, etc., I turned the G4 on for the first time. No startup chime, just one beep, and then regular flashing of the power button, I looked around these discussions and came across this....
    Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics):
    •1 Beep:
No RAM is installed or detected.
    •2 Beeps:
Incompatible RAM types are installed (for example,
    both SDRAM and EDO installed).
    •3 Beeps:
No RAM banks passed memory testing.
    •4 Beeps:
No good boot images are detected in the boot ROM
(and/or there is a bad sys config block).
    •5 Beeps:
    The processor is not usable.
Power Macintosh G4 (PCI Graphics, Yikes):
    •1 Beep:
No RAM is installed or detected.
    •2 Beeps:
Incompatible RAM types are installed (for example,
    both SDRAM and EDO installed).
    •3 Beeps:
No RAM banks passed memory testing.
    •4 or 5 Beeps:
Bad checksum for the remainder of the boot ROM
block. The ROM is bad and probably cannot be fixed.
I didn't have the 2 smaller RAM cards to use to go back to square one and test with, but I did pretty much remove everything but one Hard Drive and the RAM, all four cards, combinations of 2, one , etc., with no luck, this G4 will not run with any combo of these 4 256 RAM cards, it always gives the One Beep...could it be that there is such a thing as RAM , new, that would be recognized by a G3 Blue and White and NOT by a G4 AGP? I figured, as per my experience with the other RAM I used, and the fact that the 4 new RAM cards worked great in the G3 that they'd also be recognized and work with the G4...as I was adhering to the following specs for the 2 machines...
    G3 RAM - RAM: 64/128/256 MB standard, expandable to 1 GB using PC100 SDRAM (3.3V,unbuffered, 64-bit, 168-pin, 100 MHz) in 4 DIMM slots
    G4 - RAM: 64/128/256 MB standard on 400/450/500 MHz models, expandable to 1.5 GB using PC100 SDRAM (3.3V, unbuffered, 64-bit, 168-pin, 100 MHz) in 4 DIMM slots
Additional things tried....checked the battery, both the G3 and G4 are showing strong voltage with their internal batteries. I also followed this tip with no success...
Tip - I found this on a Mac site. "Sometimes computers lose their mind. Don't ask me why or how it happens but it does. Sometimes you simply have to totally discharge the computer. One thing I have learned about the Blue and White G3 and the Gray G4 computers is that sometimes pushing the CUDA (PMU) is not enough. If your machine still is dead, then try the following.
    * Unplug the Unit
    * Remove the Battery
    * Push the CUDA (PMU) Switch (count to 5 slow)
    * Push the Start button on the front of the computer (count to 5 slow)
    * Let the unit sit for 15-30 minutes
    * Replace the Battery
    * Plug it back in, and push the start button
    What could it be? Argh.

Note that this article says the number of flashes is also an indication of the number of tones you should be hearing. If the audio is faulty, you may not hear all the tones, but you can count the flashes:

If is best to buy from a reputable supplier that actually test RAM in Mac's and guarantee there upgrade kits.
The two most recommended here are OWC and Crucial

  • Tecra 8200 doesn't recognize RAM in Slot B

Since a few days my Tecra doesn't recognize the RAM Module in Slot B. Before all was fine. I have 2x256MB Modules. I was wondering why my Tecra becomes more slow the last days and then i saw that i have now just 256MB RAM. I change the Modules from Slot A to B. I checked also both RAM moduls with MEMCheck. Both are ok! Just when i put one RAM to Slot B and none to Slot A my Tecra doesn't boot up! If i insert both moduls my Tecra boots up but just with 256MB RAM.
Is there an other solution then to buy a new Notebook? Is my Mainbord demaged?
I was so contently with my Tecra until now ;-)

    Hi
Like Joao said, probably the memory slot B is defective and therefore the memory module cannot be recognized.
The notebook supports max 512MB (2x256MB) but I dont know if the single 512MB module can be used in one slot.
    I presume its not possible.

Here's the solution creating a dummy vga connector so that mac thinks it has a monitor connected to the vga port.

hello ozltem, i think this is related to this bug in adobe's flash plugin: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3223393 (apparently they are aware of the issue & can replicate it, but they are not fixing it because it doesn't have a high priority).
as a workarounf you could try if [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/flash-113-crashes#w_solution-2-downgrade-to-flash-10-3 downgrading to flash 10.3] (which is still supported) or [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071#TemporaryWorkaround disabling protected mode].

  • P6N Diamond 4g ram no boot problem

Hello, I have installed vista ultimate 64 successfully and downloaded the necessary updates and drivers for my system all on 2g of ram. The problem comes when i try to install the remaining 2g of ram. All 4g shows up on post but the system will not boot. Is this hardware or vista related? System specs are down in my signature. thanks for the help.
    Danny

test your second pair of 2GB alone with Memtest86 and ensure no error(s) will comes.
up memory vcore to 2.2V(SPD rated vcore for your memory) before install all four sticks.
also check and ensure that timings assigned are default one for your memory.
if unable to make it work, you can contact to MSI here: http://support.msi.com.tw/ to send you a new BIOS to have a try.

  • Which Creative Suite will work for a G5 2.5ghz PPC Dual?

I'm using OSX 10.5.8 on a G5 2.5ghz PPC Dual Core Mac that is not intel-based.
I have 4gb of RAM, 500gb HD and I'm mainly interested in using Photoshop & Illustrator but,
all other apps would be welcome. Which Creative Suite can i buy for my Mac?

You can't. The last version of CS that was usable on a non-Intel machine was CS4. With the release of CS5 a year or so ago, Adobe stopped selling CS4. You will be hard pressed to find a legitimate copy of CS4. Sorry, but the sad truth is that you'll need to buy a new computer at this point.

  • MSI P67A-G45 (B3) Two DIM slots problem.

Hi, I just bought all my parts for my new computer. Everything is working fine, except that I have some problem with two of my DIM slots. When I insert my RAM into the slots on the right side (near CD-ROM) the PC reboots each 3 second. Do you know what may cause the problem? Is it the slot problem or something with the BIOS settings?
    CPU: Intel i5 2500k 3.30 GHz
    Mobo: MSI P67A-G45 (B3)
    RAM: Corsair 2x2Gb 1333Mhz
    PSU: XFX Pro 650W
    GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6950
    Kind Regards.

But I can normally boot into the Windows, if it would be the CPU problem then I guess the pc wont boot. I will check it just to make sure and I will post the result.
It has been seen here on the forum a number of times that the system will run with bent or broken CPU socket pins. As suggested, if not done so yet, remove the CPU & inspect the CPU socket for bent pins.

  • PCI slot problem

I have a computer with an MSI K7T Turbo Ver 3 board.
The number between the PCI slots is N1996.
The is a chip near the end of the PCI slots that says MS6330 Lite.
Running Windows 2000 PRO with 512 MG RAM.
The problem is, neither the modem nor the NIC work. This just happened. I have taken known good working parts and put them in but no luck. Device Manager shows both to be working properly.
I do not have the installation disc for this board and cannot fint it listed so that I can download all the drivers and BIOS.
    Can anyone please help me.

  • Internet sharing: iMac and G4 PPC Dual Mirror Door via firewire, fire sharing works fine with this set up now need internet sharing

I have already set up file sharing thanks to a query last year, now I need to set up internet sharing, I am using a firewire connection and my ISP has confirmed that their should be not problem in internet sharing between my iMac and my G4 PPC Dual Mirror door but after trying different combinations in the sharing set up I am still drawing a blank on this connection, any help would be appreciated

You have set up file sharing by firewire, right? Now you want to share your iMac's Internet connection with the G4. Does the G4 have an Airport wireless card? If so, set it up that way in System Prefs under Internet Sharing. If the G4 doesn't have an Airport card then you'll need to do it by Ethernet, as in this article http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_share_your_wireless_internet_connectio n_ethernet. But if you do it by Ethernet then your iMac would need to be connected to your modem wirelessly, not by Ethernet, b/c you need the iMac Ethernet port for the connection to the G4. Hope this makes sense.

  • I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • HDR CX380 card slot problem

Purchased HDR CX380 Nov.29,2013. Returned for repair Nov.12,2014. Could not insert card in SD slot. This was on EVENT ID: E60644077. Now on June 30,2015, card will not click into place in slot. Have only used slot a maximum of 3 times since the repair. A $400.00 camera should not have these issues. We have 2 Sony TV's, DVD Player, and other equipment. I expect a company with the reputation of Sony to do something about this continuing SD card slot problem. IF NOT, I will be forced to find another camera without the Sony name on it.

    Hi gregruthswanson,
Pls ensure you are using the supported type and capacity of Memory Card media for use with the camera. Insert the Memory Card in a correct direction until it clicks. Push the center portion of the visible edge of the memory card (pls see this guide for instructions) .
You can also try to use other memory cards just to make sure that the memory card you're currently using isn't damaged.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.
If my post answers your question, please mark it as "Accept as Solution"
    Thanks. -Anthony

  • Dual Ram in slots 1+2 or 1+3

so is it determined which two slots are optimal for dual ram placement?

With the K8T, MSI stated DIMM slots 1 and 2 for optimum performance. The K8N is not as simple, performance is assured by occupying the DIMM slots per RAM type, and whether it is single or double banked...DIMM slots 1 and 2 or DIMM slots 1 and 3 are the only approved configurations for 2 sticks of double banked modules whereas DDR400 speeds can be assured.
