PPDS Horizons and PPM

Hi Gurus,
Can any one explain me the difference between
1. Opening periods
2. PPDS plng Time fence
3. Adjustment Horizon
4. Rqmts Ascertain Horizon
5. PPDS Horizon
& also please explain me step by step how i can create PPM for my finished products
Please let me know.
Thanks & REGARDS

Hi Kumar,
Continued...
3. Adjustment Horizon and 4. Rqmts Ascertain Horizon
These two horizons are relevant to sales order oriented planning. In sales order oriented planning we only convert procurement proposals (planned orders and purchase requisitions) into manufacturing orders or purchase orders if theses procurement proposals are used to cover sales orders.
Adjustment Horizon : Using specific PPDS heuristics, we delete planned independent requirements for which there are no sales orders, and adjust the purchase requisitions and planned orders used to cover these planned independent requirements accordingly.
u2022 To adjust the planned independent requirements and procurement proposals for selected products, we use the standard heuristic SAP_PP_015. This heuristic executes the adjustment for all procurement proposals that start in the adjustment period. You can define the adjustment period using the adjustment horizon.
u2022 Using the standard heuristic SAP_PP_016 you execute the adjustment for selected orders. The adjustment horizon and the adjustment period are not relevant here.
Rqmts Ascertain Horizon: Using a specific PPDS heuristic (standard heuristic SAP_PP_014) we can determine the planned independent requirements for which there are no sales orders.
We can determine these planned independent requirements for procurement proposals that start in the requirements ascertainment period. We can define the requirements ascertainment period using the requirements ascertainment horizon. We can use the results to ask your customers to issue sales orders.
5. PPDS Horizon
This the time horizon in which PP/DS can automatically create, change, or delete receipts. Outside of the PP/DS horizon, receipts can only be planned manually in PP/DS
PPM creation:
In APO we have PPDS and SNP PPMs.
Please refer to the URL below which gives in detail the procedure for PPM creation:

• SNP and PPDs horizons

Hi,
If I have SNP horizon of 0 days and PPDs horizon of 0 days. Then does the system plan twice and I see double the quantities because both SNP and PPDS are planning the same time? I mean does it create both SNP and PPDS planned orders doubling the planned qty.?
Thanks.
Edited by: Visu Venkat on Jul 30, 2008 3:14 PM

Typically if both these horizons are zero in the Location Product, the system is supposed to check the PPDS horizon kept in /n/sapapo/mvm transaction. Usually its a best practice to have a non-zero value in the version level. under the situation where even PPDS horizon at version level is 0, I would expect PPDS orders not be created at all by any systemic process. (different PPDS heuristics work differently though) However it should be possible to create PPDS orders manually outside of the PPDS horizon. Usually SNP orders are deleted and PPDS orders created in its place by the PPDS solver as soon as those orders are inside the PPDS horizon. I would be surprised by what you are observing though.

• Difference between PDS and PPM and which one should be used for SNP /ppds?

Hi Gurus,
Just wanted to know what are the difference between PDS and PPM ?
1. For what industrial products we use PDS and PPM in SNP and PPDS?
2. which one can be refered to clients?
Please let me know it will be really great if anyone let me know the answers
Thanks & Regards,
Raj

Hi Rajkumar,
I have given below the detailed comparative account of PDS Vs PPM. Please copy and put it in an excel sheet in different columns and then read which is easy to understand.
PDS
1. Production Data Structure (PDS) in APO 3.1 & Run Time Object (RTO) in 4.0 and above versions
2. Master Data Object
3. Useful for scenarios where the compoenent has got different validity periods
4. Used as Master data Basis for Planning in SAP-APO
5. Contains active Master data from iPPE (Integrated Product and Process Engineering) generated from a production version
6. PPDS PDS & SNP PDS can be used as master data for planning
7. Change Management, variant configuration & Phantom assemplies are supported in PDS
8. Sub-contracting in SNP is fully integrated with R/3 is supported in PDS
9. Direct transfer of SNP PDS from R/3 is possible
10.Rapid Planning Matrix can be generated
11. Not possible to maintain PDS directly in APO and can be used only in combination with R/3
12. The transfer of data changes is simpler
13. Not possible to create alternate SNP-PDS in std system for different mode combinations
14. PDS can be automatically generated from two sources ie R/3 and iPPE
PPM:-
1. Production Process Model
2. Master Data Object
3. Cannot be used for scenarios where the component has got different validity period
4. Used as Master data Basis for Planning in SAP-APO
5. Contains active Master data generated from the combination of routing (BoM & receipe) and production versions
6. PPDS PPM & SNP PPM's can be used as master data for planning
7. Not supported by PPM
8. Not supported by PPM
9. Not possible here. SNP PPMs will be generated via PPDS PPMs
10. Not possible
11. PPMs can be directly created in APO and can be modified without R/3 also.
12. Little Complex when compared to PDS
13. Alternate SNP-PPMs can be easily created
14. PPM can be generated automatically generated only from R/3
PDS is used in industries wherein there are multiple components or assemblies having diffeent production versions whose validity periods are different. PPM is being used typically in process industries, chemical industries. PPM is very simple in its usage and very flexible in operations in terms of modifications at APO level and can be referred to client depending on the business requirement

• SNP and PPDS Horizon

Hi All,
Can anyone please let mw know what exactly is the difference between SNP and PPDS Horizon ??
How is it identified. .
What are the applications of using these horizons . .
Thanks in Advance,
Prasad.

SNP Horizon: Time segment, during which SAP APO Supply Network Planning (SNP) does not plan production. This means that SNP does not create any planned orders in it but shifts production to the first day after the end of the production horizon.
PPDS Horizon: Time segment in which Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) can automatically create, change, or delete receipts. The duration of the horizon begins on the current date and continues for this number of calendar days into the future.

• PPDS Horizon is set 'Zero' ,Still PP heuristic is generating PP/DS Planned

Dear All,
We have a semifinished material for which SNP optimizer has generated SNP Planned orders for this component.
User has deleted SNP planned orders from Planning book, and execute PP Heuristic inorder to generate PP/DS planned orders.
PP/DS Horizon & SNP Horizon is defined as 'zero',the issue is why PP heuristic generating PP/DS Planned Orders up to 33 weeks.
I have checked PPDS Horizon is mainatined as 'zero' in Product master (/n/sapapo/mat1) & in version management.
My question is apart from this, Is there any other field from where 'PP/DS horizon' can be picked by PP heuristic.
Thhanks with regards,
Sajit

Answer is no.
Other then product master and version management no other place we can maintain the ppds Horizon.
if you do not maintain any value any where then system will consider infinite PPDS Horizon.

• SNP horizon and PP/DS horizon

Hi,
could somebody help me in knowing in which business scenario, we can have overlapping of PP/DS horizon and SNP horizon..?
ie for example, SNP production horizon of 5 days and PP/DS horizon of 10 days..
thanks
Ram.

the SNP horizon is used to divide the responsibility between SNP and PPDS.
In an Integrated planning scenario, a SNP and PPDS horizon would be the same.
An overlapping horizon is used where conversion of SNP to PPDS orders is done using transaction /SAPAPO/RRP_SNP2PPDS or the
/SAPAPO/RRP_SNP2PPDS report
The idea is to make use of a good SNP plan without losing it by replanning in PPDS. The SNP plan might have been used in Capacity planning and levelling and you might not want any change in this by PPDS planning.
Having SNP horizon of 5days and doing an SNP plan followed by a conversion from SNP to PPDS would basically mean SNP planned orders converted to PPDS planned orders in days 5-10.
These PPDS orders can be then rescheduled in the planning board like any other PPDS order

• Does Make To Order planning consider any SNP/PPDS Horizons

Guys
Does Make To Order planning consider any SNP/PPDS Horizons unike the Make to Stock scenario planning?
Thanks

Thanks for the response guys.
In RRP3 view, when I look at the Individual project segment demand, I do not see any SNP/PPDS Horizons. However, when I see the demands under the MTS segment, I can see the SNP/PPDS Horizons.
In MTS scenario, I understand that only those orders that falls within PPDS horizon are picked up by PPDS planning and orders outisde SNP horizon are picked up by SNP planning.
However, as MTO is purely PPDS planning, I am just wondering whether SNP or PPDS horizon comes into the picture in this scenario or not.
Further more, my primary concern in MTO scenario is, if PPDS horizon is taken into the picture ( which is usually in the near visible term and < SNP horizon, say 15 days), and as PPDS planning doesn't pick the demand in the MTO segment until the demand falls with in this horizon, aren't we not leveraging the full functionality of procurement planning, as PPDS plans the demand by picking it just before 15 days (in this example) of the original requirement date, and the company might not be able to fulfil the customer order as the replenishment time might be long for this particular product being procured/produced.
So, I am basically leaning towards an understanding that what ever demand that falls in the Individual Customer/Project segment (MTO), it will be picked up PPDS planning regard less of SNP/PPDS horizons.
Please advice, if my understanding is wrong and I would appreciate if you quote some examples which might help me better understand the scenario.
Thanks

• PPDS horizon

Hi,
My planning version PPDS horizon is set to 90 days
but when i checked product loction under PPDS tab, the horizon is set to 0
when I run the heuristic for production planning ... the system will take which horizon?
thx

Dear Felix,
When u run heauristic for the Product, system will check the PPDS horizon in Product Master first. If it finds any value oter than Zero(here Zero=Blank) it will consider this, else it goes and considers the PPDS horizone value from the Planning version.
i.e. first priority is product master value only if it is non Zero
If the Product master value is Zero, then it takes from Planning version

• Difference between Stock Transfer Horizon and Planning Time Fence

Hi Experts,
Could you plz help to explain the difference between stock transfer horizon and planinng time fence?
Appreciated your professional input to address my confusion.

Hi Gavin,
The stock transfer horizon is used in SNP planning, it is the time period within which SNP does not create any stock transfer requisitions.
The planning time fence is used by PPDS planning. It is the time period within which the PPDS planning does not create any orders. The orders lying within this period are considered to be firmed by the PPDS planning.
Functionally, the stock transfer horizon/ production horizon in SNP are analogous to the planning time fence in PPDS, which provide the system ability to keep the plan firm/unchanged within this period.
Hope this helps!

Umesh

• Difference between Plannnig Horizon and Production Horizon

Hai Can somebody explain me the difference between "Planning Horizon and Production Horizon"?
Here is the text that led me to this question:
"If the Production Horizon of SNP is smaller than PP/DS horizon, the planning horizons of SNP and PP/Ds overlap with each other." In this horizon, SNP determines the receipts with most cost effective sources of supply and lot sizes and PP/DS receipts generated by SNP in more detail.

check the following entries in Product master
The SNP production horizon is maintained on the SNP 2 tab page in the product master (transaction /SAPAPO/MAT1).
It also appears in the PPDS tab page along with PPDS horizon
The PPDS Planning horizon and PPDS Production horizon are the same. PPDs only plans inside this Horizon.
What is outside the SNP production Horiozon lies in the SNP planning horizon. Actually thought the name is a bit misleading - SNP does not plan anything inside the production horizon.
If you do not enter a value or you enter the duration 0 for the PP/DS horizon, the system automatically uses the SNP production horizon as the PP/DS horizon during planning. Therefore, the PP/DS horizon is exactly the same length as the SNP production horizon and this means that the SNP and PP/DS planning periods follow on from each other seamlessly and without overlapping.
If the SNP production horizon is smaller than the PP/DS horizon, the planning horizons of SNP and PP/DS overlap. SNP and PP/DS can both use this overlapping period for planning.
A gap between the end of the PP/DS horizon and the start of the SNP planning period is a time segment that is neither planned by PP/DS nor SNP. This can lead to inconsistencies.
So think of two lines - one with its right side shaded(PPDS) and the other with its left side(SNP) shaded. Depending on where you place these lines the shaded sections get planned. how you get the two regions to mesh will ensure the effectivity of your plan
you can also get a better understanding looking at the product view screen and changing the product master values for the horizons and running heuristics

• Difference between SNP horizon, SNP production horizon and PP/DS horizon

I am new to this world of SCM and confused about SNP horizon, SNP production horizon and PP/DS horizon. May I ask for assistance in garbing the concept using some example flows in business scenarios.
Thank you

Hi Rohit,
SNP Production Horizon is the time horizon in which SNP and CTM (Capable to Match) do not plan production. SNP Production Horizon can be maintained in days, weeks and months.
SNP Production Horizon can be seen in ‘SNP 2’ tab of product master in APO
For example if SNP Production Horizon is mentioned as 21 days - Therefore, up to 21 days (from system date) SNP will not plan production and only after SNP Production Horizon (21 days), SNP (or CTM) will create receipts. Planning within this time period (system date till SNP Production Horizon) is typically done by PPDS planning which plans for the short-term horizon.
PPDS Horizon is the time horizon during which PPDS can automatically delete, change or create orders. It is created in calendar days and counting starts from present date into future. (Deletion and change is possible only for unfirmed orders.)
PPDS Horizon is maintained in the ‘PP/DS’ tab of the product master in APO:
Also for overlap scenarios -
SNP Prod Horizon < PPDS Horizon: In this type of setup, PP/DS considers and takes care of SNP Planned Orders in the overlap period and plans accordingly.
SNP Prod Horizon = PPDS Horizon: SNP Planned Orders will be converted into PP/DS Planned Orders after they enter PPDS Horizon.
SNP Prod Horizon > PPDS Horizon: In this type of setup neither SNP nor PPDS will plan production. Though planner can manually create orders in this horizon also.
Hope it helps.

Alok

• Automatic Creation of Planned Order in PPDS Horizon

Dear Experts,
Kindly answer my following query.
I have created PIRs before/inside my PPDS Horizon (its also falling outside horizon as SNP horizon is shorter than PPDS Horizon). If I check the PIRs created by me in /SNPAPO/RRP3, it also shows me planned orders corresponding to them. However, if I create PIR outside PPDS horizon then system is not automatically creating the planned order.
Kindly let me know which master data/configuration setting is responsible for automatic creation of planned orders within PPDS horizon.
Best Regards

Dear Rinju,
Check in Product Master PPDS view the Planning procedure maintained? if it is balnk check in the heuristic, the palnning procedure maintained.
Since automatic planning procedure(3) is maintained, that is the reason it is creating order proposals, it self.

• SOLVED Cannot view .pgm and .ppm images

Hi,
I tried to view some .pgm and .ppm images produced by my APT weather satellite image receiver but gqview could not open them. Tried mirage but have same problem. Only gimp opens these type of images.
Last time I tried to view .pgm images was probably more than 3 weeks ago so the problem may have developed after some recent -Syu. Any ideas please?
Looks like the pgm and ppm (at least) file formats spec has changed. I compared with a pgm file saved by gimp and there is a hash-prefixed comment line below the P5. I inserted one in the files produced by my app and now gqview (and others) open them OK. Example:
P5
#comment (anything)
800 600
255
data.........
works ok but:
P5
800 600
255
data.........
can only be opened by gimp.
But still there is another strange problem, when I "open as text" an uncommented .pgm file in gvim, it seems to go into a long loop trying to open the file and has to be stopped with a user interrupt. With a commented file it has no problem!!??

• Planning horizon and scheduling horizon

hi gurus
what is the difference beween planning horizon and scheduling horizon
and how it will effect on production planning/MRP
pls give me a detailed answer
Faisal

hi,
planning horizon
planning horizon specifies the period for the "Net change planning in the planning horizon".
In this kind of net change planning, only those materials that have undergone a change that is relevant to MRP within the planning horizon are included in the planning run. Such materials receive a net change planning indicator in the planning file.
The length of the planning horizon should include at least the following:
the period in which sales orders are received
the delivery periods
the total lead times of the materials
re-schedule horizon
Define Rescheduling Horizon
The rescheduling horizon is the period in which System checks whether the existing dates still suit the requirements situation for receipt elements that can no longer be automatically changed in the planning run. If the dates of a particular element are no longer suitable
effect:
If no rescheduling horizon has been maintained, the system will not carry out a rescheduling check.
The system calculates the rescheduling horizon from the end of the replenishment lead time in reorder point planning.

How to change view in iPhone from vertical to horizon and vice versa?

Not all applications will go from Portrait to Landscape. Changing just requires you to turn the device. However, if you have the orientation lock activated, then it will not change to landscape. To check, look in the status bar and see if you can see a small lock shaped icon near the battery icon. If you do, then orientation lock is activated. To turn it off, swipe upwards from the bottom of the iPhone screen to bring up Control Center. The orientation lock is the last icon on the top row to the right. Tap on it to turn it off. White is on, black is off.
