Pppoe, no dns avalible

Hi All,
This is my first post on theapple support forums, so I hope this is the correct subforum for my question and I'm not breaking any rules. Please excuse me for my bad english, since it's not my native language.
I have a pppoe server running here (just a linux box) for authentication on my wireless network (802.1x isn't possible with my AP's in combination with roaming). It works perfectly, but only on windows systems. As soon as I connect with my macbook it doesn't use the dns that I provide on my pppoe-server.
Authentication works perfect and the connection is active. I'm able to ping my server and via NAT to the internet. So the only real problem is dns, it's kinda hard to resolve addresses.
screenshots:
http://www.attilla.nl/pppoe1.png
http://www.attilla.nl/pppoe2.png
As you can see in the above screenshots there is no dns filled in, but the weird thing is that also the subnet isn't there while the shell gives the correct subnet.
I checked by the way if the problem also happens when using plain old ethernet, but the problem is the same.
Does anyone have a solution for my problem ?

Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have some more information, it seems OS X receives the dns settings, but just doesn't use them for nog apartent reason.

  • Airport blocking sites from me

got a strange problem. my airport is blocking some sites from me. i can reach the sites if i type in the server number, but if i enter it as alpha characters i get nothing. thought it was my hosting service, then my isp. once i disconnected airport and connected directly into the modem it all worked (and at a fast speed too). i've downloaded airport admin utility 4.2 (i'm running osx 10.5.2) and an old snow single ethernet port airport.
any clues on how i clear the dns records (or whatever) out of my airport so it doesn't block sites and slow things down for me?

Now how do I "ensure that the DNS server settings ... are equal to the ones used in the Ethernet section of my network preferences?"
If your Internet service provider (ISP) provides your IP address via DHCP, or if you choose your IP address manually, the DNS server settings for the base station are at AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow > (select base station) > Configure > (enter base station password) > Internet > "Connect Using: Ethernet" > "DNS servers:"
If your ISP provides your IP address via PPPoE, the DNS server settings for the base station are at AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow > (select base station) > Configure > (enter base station password) > Internet > "Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)" > "DNS servers:"
The DNS server settings for the Mac are at System Preferences > Network > "Show: Built-in Ethernet" > "TCP/IP" > "DNS Servers:" (Caveat: I use OS 10.4, so if there is a relevant difference in OS 10.5, I apologize.)
Each of the DNS servers entered in these fields, if any, is represented by four numbers separated by dots. Since the settings on the Mac when it is wired to the modem seem to have no DNS problems, I expect that you could add, delete or change the ones in AirPort Admin Utility to match those.
Is there some sort of AirPort preference that I should trash? or repair permissions? Or some DNS memory that needs to get flushed?
Good question. I don't know all the places where DNS data are cached. I doubt that the base station itself collects any DNS hostname data, especially none that it retains if it has been powered down. If its DNS server settings are corrupted, I suppose that a hard reset of the base station should fix that. See Resetting the AirPort Base Station (Dual Ethernet).
One more question. As I open up AirPort Admin Utility 4.2.5 it tells me "A newer version (4.0.9) of base station software is available. Click upload to install it now." Should I do that? Will it work with my older base station and newer OS X?
    Yes.

  • Q about DNS with PIX 501 as PPPoE client

    Hi!
I've got PIX 501 (PixOS 6.3.5) acting as PPPoE client. Outside interface gets IP and DNS addresses from access concentrator.
There is an example in config guide how to set DNS address (got from concentrator) for DHCH daemon in PIX, so clients in LAN can get that DNS address so.
But I don't use DHCP in LAN. Is there a way to set PIX inside address as DNS on LAN clients and make PIX somehow redirect DNS request to PPPoE DNS server by itself? (same as on simplest linux-build SOHO box by Linksys etc)
    Thanks!

In this example, the intent is for the machines in the 10.10.10.0 /24 network to access this web server in the DMZ by its external You do not want the PIX to do DNS Doctoring of the DNS replies. Instead, you want the PIX to dnat the external (global) IP address of the web server to its "real" DMZ address (192.168.100.10).
Use the alias command to perform dnat:
    alias(inside) 10.99.99.99 192.168.100.10 255.255.255.224

  • RV016 DNS on PPPoE connection

    Hi all,
I am trying to install a RV016 behind a layer 2 managed switch provided by ISP.  The ISP is using PPPoE to allow access.  I am able to see that I am connected to ISP's device and I receive a real world IP address on WAN1 of RV016.  I am not able to resolve any web addresses either through router diag screen or from connected pc.
DNS entry in DHCP panel is sett to 0.0.0.0 and after connecting to pppoe the summary shows 8.8.8.8
Router was configured and then reset back to factory after initial trouble.  Still same results
    Any thoughts?

Not getting all that much attention but I have a hard time believing that I am the only one that ever faced this issue.  At this point it seems that the simple act of asking the device to functin as a router and not a gateway is the culprit.  I was able to reproduce similar results on a static IP connection in a different network, I will test this theory this evening with the PPPoE connection

  • Configuring DNS servers with PPPoE

    Hi all,
just received my base station, I'm trying to configure a custom couple of dns servers ( usually I work with opendns instead of the default ones from my ISP ) but after checking I notice that base station is still working with the default dns of my ISP. I tried to reset and re-configure the PPPoE connection but it still doesn't work.
    Any suggestion?

Hello again, I feel sort of annoying by posting so many things.
I created a user in DC3 and it was replicated to DC1-New. If I do it the other way around, it does not work.
In other words, the replication process only works this way DC3 --> DC1-New. I have checked it is not a firewall issue, all are off, since I began this lab.
    If I run repadmin /showrepl in DC1-New ,
it sees DC3 and all success messages regarding the replication.
    If I run repadmin /showrepl in DC3,
    it just sees nothing.
I also run dcdiag /test:knowsofroleholders in DC3 and
there is this message: The holder of the Schema master is a deleted DC (DC1) . The same of all the 5 FSMOs.
I am trying to find a way to tell DC3 that the FSMOs holder is not DC1, but DC1-New.
    Thanks for your support.

  • ASA5510 PPPoE DNS

    Hi All !
I have set up an ASA5510 to access internet using a DSL line via PPPoE.
The PPPoE client connects, authenticates and almost everything is fine, except the DNS server. Normally, the ISP provides the DNS server for the PPPoE client to use, anthis can be pushed to clients via DHCP.
This is what I cannot do with ASA. I can't find any command either in CLI or ASDM to tell ASA to request the DNS server address, and publish it to its clients via DHCP.
Is this functionality present in ASA at all ?
    Thanks,
    Laszlo

ASA supports operating as both Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers and DHCP clients. DHCP supplies automatic configuration parameters such as an IP address with a subnet mask, default gateway, DNS server, and WINS server IP address to hosts.

  • Help setting up Open DNS with new airport extreme

I cant seem to get Open DNS to work with a new airport extreme. The status says I am not using Open DNS and its not filtering anything. I have followed the exact steps for set up listed on their website, checked the dns settings, cleared both caches and restarted the computer, modem and router with no success. I set the airport up in bridged mode, although I tried the other option under setup, but not sure what I was doing? I picked up this router because I wanted easy set up and the apple store assured me it would work with Open DNS. Oh, and I also downloaded the latest firmware update on the router. Can anyone help me with the settings or what else I need to check?

Sorry, I am not familiar with this product, so I checked online to pick up some information.  Here I am referring to the information found here:
    http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6096
I found that your device is mentioned as follows in the intro under Section 1 of this document:
The BellSouth supplied Westell 2100, 2200 and 6100 models (Models A90-210030-04, B90-220030-04, and B90-610030-06/C90-610030-06, respectively) share many features and functions.
Next, I am referring to the information under Section 2, under the heading of Standard Default Mode Connection (separate hub or switch present).  Unless you have changed the configuration on the Westell, this is how your device is operating. In this mode, the Westell device is acting both as a modem and router in one unit.
So, an attached router (AirPort Extreme) must be configured as a switch to work correctly. That is what Bridge Mode is....the AirPort Extreme is operating as a switch when it is in Bridge Mode (which would be the correct setting to use when the Westell is set to its Standard Default Mode).
Any changes that you want to make regarding DNS settings would need to be made on the Westell device, since it is acting as the main router on your network.
In Bridge Mode, the AirPort Extreme simply passes that information through to its connected devices. You will not be able to make any DNS related changes on the AirPort Extreme since it receives that info from the Westel device. Some service providers force you to use their DNS servers, so you might want to check with Bell South or AT&T for more information in this regard.
If you want to be able to configure the AirPort Extreme as the main router on your network, and instruct it to use the DNS information that you want, you will need to refer to the section under the heading of Bridged Ethernet Mode ( separate router present).
Please note that the first item under this heading specifies that "This is the preferred configuration when using a separate external router..." (which would be the AirPort Extreme in your case)
So, it appears to me that this would be the way that you must reconfigure the Westell device to allow the AirPort Extreme to function as the "main" router on your network. In this type of setup, you will be able to enter the DNS information that you want to use under the setup for the AirPort Extreme and it will act as you instruct.
The AirPort Extreme would not be configured in Bridge Mode for this....it would be configured to "Share a public IP address".
The next item in the article specifies that you "Must use a PPPoE client on the Router." This means that the AirPort Extreme would be configured to Connect Using = PPPoE as follows:
    AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = PPPoE
You would enter your user name (probably your email address), password, etc in this area. Leave the Service Area box completely blank. Set Connection to Always On, and Disconnect if Idle to Never
Click Update to save the new settings. Power off the Westell device after this and then restart it so that it will pick up the new information that you have programmed into the AirPort Extreme.
I want to stress that this is how I would try to configure the Westell and AirPort Extreme. But, as I said, have not used a Westell device, so I cannot say that this will work correctly for you.
It might be an excellent idea to contact Bell South or AT&T Support to ask for their opinion on this before you decide to change the configuration of the Westel device and the AirPort Extreme.
This type of thing can be intimidating for users, so you might elect to use the services of someone like the Geek Squad at Best Buy, or a similar service from a local computer firm. Perhaps the Apple store could help as well.
If it is not critical that you use Open DNS, you might want to simply leave things "as is", with the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode.

  • Airport not distributing DNS servers over network

    Hi everyone,
I connect to the Internet over ADSL (ISP: Arnet Highway, Buenos Aires, Argentina) using PPPoE from my MacBook Pro.
I have my ADSL modem connected to the Airport Extreme (802.11n) and distributing IP over DHCP just fine. Every device that joins the network obtains a valid IP.
However, DNS servers aren't distributed by the router over the network. Every connected device has to be manually configured to set the DNS servers of my ISP to be able to resolve hosts, instead of 'asking' these addresses to the router, as it should be.
Initially I thought there might be a problem obtainig the DNS servers from the ISP. So in the Airport Utility, in Internet / PPPoE settings, I've manually set my ISP's DNS servers, which should be distributed over the network to all connected devices.
This doesn't happen, and every somebody new joins my wireless network I have to manually change the DNS servers for that connection which, as I'm sure you'll agree with me, can be quite annoying. Not to mention what would happen if my ISP decides to use dynamic DNS addresses.
Thanks for any help you might provide.
    Cheers.

    Hello belbo,
I connect to the Internet over ADSL using PPPoE from my MacBook Pro.
Is your Macbook Pro Network configured to use PPPoE or DHCP?
I have my ADSL modem connected to the Airport Extreme (802.11n) and distributing IP over DHCP just fine. Every device that joins the network obtains a valid IP.
Is NAT enabled on the AE? Are the valid IP Address obtained from your ISP or from the AE?
However, DNS servers aren't distributed by the router over the network. Every connected device has to be manually configured to set the DNS servers of my ISP to be able to resolve hosts, instead of 'asking' these addresses to the router, as it should be.
When you setup the AE to use PPPoE did you enter a Domain Name or a DHCP Client ID?
Initially I thought there might be a problem obtainig the DNS servers from the ISP. So in the Airport Utility, in Internet / PPPoE settings, I've manually set my ISP's DNS servers, which should be distributed over the network to all connected devices.
The DNS servers listed in the AE aren't distributed to each Network Device but are only used to translate names into IP addresses when need by a Network Device.
This doesn't happen, and every somebody new joins my wireless network I have to manually change the DNS servers for that connection which, as I'm sure you'll agree with me, can be quite annoying. Not to mention what would happen if my ISP decides to use dynamic DNS addresses.
If your AE is distributing IP Address using DHCP and NAT then this should not be a problem but I'm not sure without more information about the questions I asked.
    Later.

  • Time Capsule blinks yellow, when I go to airport utility to set up, it Says This apple wi-fi bse station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to internet.  My internet works, but I can't back up anything. What do I do??

Worked fine for about a couple of weeks after my son -law installed the time capsule.  I can access the Internet both from my wife's I phone and from my desktop.  I think that I need to get the DNS server numbers and put them in the two blanks; but where do I get them?  Thanks, Jim

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • DNS Issues with Time Capsule - DNS Proxy periodically dies

hi all .... looking for some suggestions
I have a time capsule 1TB, connected to a linksys adsl modem in bridge mode, with the TC acting as DHCP server for my local clients. In the PPPoE settings I also enter the primary and secondary addresses for DNS that my ISP supplied.
I am able to successfully connect to the internet, and all clients successfully pick up an IP address, and each client picks up the TC as the DNS proxy. Everything works perfectly as it should.
Usually once per day, there seems to be a slight hickup with the internet connection (hard to tell whether I am losing the PPPoE or some other issue). When this happens, the PPPoE connection remains active, as I am able to access anything on the internet from an IP level. However, the DNS proxy service on the TC seems to die and as a result, all internet browsing fails. If I reboot the TC, everything comes back to normal. If I dont reboot, the only way to get browsing working is to manually enter the DNS IP address from ISP into the client PCs. However, this is a manual fix that I should not have to perform.
Looking for advice and guidance. Seems like a bug but I cant tell. If I was able to set the DHCP server to pass out the ISP supplied addresses that would also work, but I cant.

Just got off the phone with support for this very same problem. DNS Proxy is definitely dying in the TC, looks like a firmware issue to me.
This is the 3rd TC I'm on. First was a 500GB, had this problem, replaced it under warranty at Apple's direction, replacement did the same, just upgraded this weekend to 1GB, and same issue still. All on 7.3.2 firmware.
TC 1TB, PPPoE to my ISP, ISP's DNS Servers listed in the PPPoE config in the TC.
When a host gets DHCP from the TC the only DNS returned is the TC itself, since it proxies the ISP DNS servers.
Once every day or two, the DNS proxy dies. local network works, and I can add my ISP's DNS addresses in my host config and I have DNS again, but this is definitely something dying in the DNS proxy in the TC.
Just for kicks trying to switch from my ISP's DNS servers to OpenDNS now since someone said that worked for them, but I am not hopeful... I don't see this as a host DNS issues at all.
The dead proxy is very clear:
    $ nslookup apple.com. 192.168.1.1 # that's the TC
    Server: 192.168.1.1
    Address: 192.168.1.1#53
    ** server can't find apple.com: SERVFAIL
    $ nslookup apple.com. 208.67.222.222 # that's OpenDNS
    Server: 208.67.222.222
    Address: 208.67.222.222#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: apple.com
    Address: 17.149.160.49
I replaced a linksys router with the TC and am kind of unhappy that a $500 router dies every couple of days. My cheapo Linksys router never needed to be restarted, it only ever got rebooted once every year or so when the house lost power long enough for the UPS to run out of battery.
Help us out here Apple, I replaced a $50 router with a $500 because I like the flavor of your kool aid, and this thing dies every day or two. Even if you can't fix why the proxy is dying every couple of days, can you please at least update the firmware to maybe restart the proxy if it quits working?

  • How to get WAN DNS when set up Airport Extreme on Windows

I am trying to set up my home network by using Airport Extreme Base to connect DSL via PPPoE. Here's what I did:
    1. Update firmware to latest version: V5.7;
    2. Install Airport Setup 4.2;
    3. Run Setup Assistant, enter the right DSL account and password by using PPPoE, also setup base name, network name and base password, and DSL service provider's DNS ip, backup DNS ip;
    4. Everything gets updated into base station, restarted, local wireless network set up successfully, but can not connect to WAN;
    5. Tried ipconfig/all, find DNS is 192.168.1.1;
    6. Tried to dial DSL from computer via PPPoE directly, validated account and password is ok, and it is working well to get me to internet.
Can someone here help me solve my issue?
    Dell D600 Windows XP Pro

I figure out answer by myself now. I would like to share it with you all here: firmware V5.7 has some major bug causes the problem. When I update my base station with firmware V5.5.1, it works right away.

  • Question on a safari symptom that implies dns wierdness

This question is posted here because to problem shows up best in Safari. However, as I understand the process, I do not believe the core of the problem is specifically Safari.
When I try to browse to a nonexistant domain (for example, typing in xyzzy.apple.com into Safari's browser), I am shown a Network Solutions page which reads among other things:
This Site Is Under Construction and Coming Soon.
This Domain Is Registered with Network Solutions
It's not as robust as the usual Network Solutions Under construction page.
A screen shot of this can be seen at
    http://www.notnap.com/browsing/UnderConstruction.png
I also get this when I type in partial urls. For example, if I simply type in ford to the address bar in Safari, I get the same page. Once upon a time, the browser would assume I meant to add a .com to the end of the url if I did not do so. While showing as a sign of laziness, I must admit I like this "feature."
I NEVER see the standard Safari page saying "Safari can't find the page you are looking for."
    Some details:
    - Network consists of a DSL connection to Verizon.
DSL modem - Linksys router = iMac G5, iMac G3
Router is connecting to modem via PPPoE
Router is configuring local network (192.168.1.x) via DHCP
    - I see the same results from IE5 on the OS9 Imac G3
    - I know I did not have these results until recently. Recent changes include:
    - upgrading firmware on linksys
    - changing internal network range from 192.0.1.x (wsa a typo) to 192.168.1.x
    Here is my thinking:
There are two "problems" going on here.
    1) I'd like the browser address bar to assume I mean .com when I do not include a standard TLD
    2) I'd like to know how Network Solutions is rerouting my browser when my dns resolver falis to find an ip when searching on behalf of my browser.
    (1) is admitedly a behavioral preference.
    (2) is getting me worried. Doesn't this mean some local process is doing this?
Here's a simplification of the entire process as I understand how dns and web browsing works...
    1) In Safari, I enter a bogus url domain, like "xyzzy.apple.com"
    2) the Safari process realizes I have not entered an IP number, and goes to the network stack in search of my dns resolver
    3) I've entered no custom host information, so the dns resolver on my system must go to whatever dns servers I have configured for use on my ethernet connection. (The only active connection, by the way). There are two dns servers, both in Verizon's space (they are my ISP)
    4) My system makes a query on port 53 to their first server. Let's assume they are playing by the rules and not proxying without my knowledge. Let's also assume there is nothing in their dns server cache for xyzzy.apple.com. After all, why should there be? Finally, let's assume their dns servers are recursive.
    5) Their dns server checks it's cache and realizes it has nothing for xyzzy.apple.com. It also quickly realizes it has no zone for apple.com, so it goes out on the quest. It hits the root servers, gets directed to the GTLD-SERVERS, gets directed to nserver.apple.com, which finally answers no such host.
    6) Verizon's dns server tells my computer's dns resolver no such host
    7) My computers dns resolver tells Safari no such host
    8) Safari should display the typical site not found page.
As far as I can tell, when I do the search from a purely dns query standpoint, I get the expected results. Here's a clip from the terminal. Comments in italics:

In other words, it got what you'd expect - the host does not exist.
So what I want to know is, how is it that Safari is set to shown a Network Solutions page instead of the default Server not Found page? As far as I can tell, that page is not on my system, so Safari must be retrieving it from elsewhere.
But how? When the local process trying to resolve the bogus host xyzzy.apple.com is dig, host, nslookup or the like, I get the correct host not found. How then is that information being changed between my local dig process and the safari process, so that Safari then shows the Network Solutions page? Remember that the only processes which "know" this query was originated by a browser and not by a dns utility like dig are local to my box. So, how can this substitution be done without local access?
Wouldn't this imply a local security problem?
I've tried (although I cannot imagine how some of these would affect a resolution):
    - Reset Safari
    - emptying cache and history
    - manually entering the dns information in system prefs (allowing the system to be configured via dhcp does work - according to network utils, the dns info is there - but they do not show up in the network prefs panel.
    - adding ".com" "com" or a few other variations to the default domain in the network prefs.
    - Deleting Safari's prefs (~/Library/Safari/)
I did find some discussion about something similar from back around 2002 complaining that similar action could potentially cause host verification problems for email servers and the like. Though, I'd guess most of these kinds of verifications would be for the reverse lookups. Still, I dould not find an exmplanation of how it was done, or more importantly, how to stop it, short of petitioning the ISP's to upgrade their version of BIND.
I'd love to be able to stop this annoying free ad for Network Solutions from appearing whenever I'm wither lazy or sloppy typing in the url. But more importantly, I want to know how this process works. The fact I see similar results on my OS9 ImacG3 strongly implies I'm not looking at a security issue - it's unlikely my conclusion there is a local process intercepting the dns results between my resolver process and my safari process is correct, as the same thing seems to be happening there as well. But I gotta know. How is this happening? How did Network Solutions do this?

What you're describing sounds suspiciously like
    VeriSign's SiteFinder from ... the
fall of 2003, which is when it was up and running.
That's one thing I did find from my searches. What I didn't find was an understanding of how they did it then, and by inference how they're doing it now, assuming we're seeing a recurrance.
I find thousands of similar hits by searching on the text in the page, though it's unclear how many of these are legit - some of these pages are truthful. Hitting xyzzy.apple.com and being told "This Domain Is Registered with Network Solutions" is another matter entirely.
This looks like your page doesn't it:
    http://underconstruction.networksolutions.com/
You know what would be interesting? The output of
    this Terminal command:

returned from whatever server is answering the
    call...

  • Mac Mini Server freezing in install when choosing PPPoE

I have a Mac Mini Server and when I go through the installation procedure and choose the connect PPPoE from the Network settings, the installation hangs every time.
I have already tried several clean installs from the Mac Mini Server disc to no avail.
    Suggestions?
    Thank You.

What part of the install process do you have trouble with? I'm assuming, and I think Tony did as well, you're talking about the server setup assistant that launches once the OS is installed. Naming your server/domain is a critical part of setup, as is DNS. If you put faulty configs in during setup, or try to setup services before DNS is working, you'll run into trouble - so please include whatever you're trying to do - if you're new to servers, most everybody around here will be helpful or at least understanding.
In any event there's a great tutorial at
    http://www.wazmac.com/serversnetwork/fileservers/osxserversetup/index.htm
While I agree with Tony that PPPoE isn't the best bet, you ought to be able to make it work - but you will need a static IP for your server. Best bet is probably to make it a static IP on your LAN using NAT and let your router/firewall have the live IP. But more info is always better - what are you trying to setup and what other equipment/network stuff is already going on? There are a lot of ways to setup a server and to setup a network, and there is certainly no one correct solution. Somebody smart (like Tony) may be able to give you a lot more options with more details. I'll try too, but I'm far from the most knowledgeable person around these parts.
Another thought - if you're not using the advanced server, I believe you need DNS set up beforehand somewhere - if you just enter your ISP's DNS server info, it won;t have any records for your server. The Wazmac setup notes will walk you through setting up your own DNS for your LAN and using your ISP's DNS for everything on the WAN side.

  • Problem: IPv6 w/ PPPoE on Cisco 2901

Folks: I have this Cisco 2901 configured with PPPoE and IPv6 and connect it through a CO (DSLAM) to an Actiontec xDSL router. PPPoE connections are on FE0/0/0, through virtual template.
The Actiontec router gets NA and PD addresses succesfully and LAN PC connected to Actiontec router can surf the IPv6 Internet w/ no problem. However, Cisco 2901 can't reach the Actiontec router by its NA or TA public IPv6 address. A 'stupid' workaround is to manually add a route w/ the virtual access. It is stupid cuz each new connection will bring up a different virtual acess.
I guess this is a bug on 2901, but want to confirm with you guys first. Now the whole config:

See both IPv4 and IPv6 are using virtual template to get PPPoE work. Everything's working fairly well on IPv4. I can ping from cisco to the 10.11.11.x address on Actiontec router. But with IPv6, I can't ping 2001:470:1f05:7a:: address on Actiontec router. The correct route through virtual-access is not installed, or the F0/0/0 interface doesn't pass the IPv6 traffic to the corresponding virtual access interface:

    Hi,
The 'bug' i described above seems to apply only to packets the router generates itself. I tested it by creating a temporary subnet. Even though i had no end-to-end connectivity i could see packets matching the outbound acl which were created from a host on that subnet.

  • Rp-pppoe connected but no data transfer

    hi,
i installed arch on 27th . Post installation i setup internet connection using rp-pppoe, which was a straight forward setup. I also got connected to net and downloaded data upon a system upgrade. Except this one instance, thereafter last two days if connected i am getting no data transfer after a connection is established.
Upon ping of 8.8.8.8  i am getting this error of destination net unreachable & if you ping google.com i get the error unknown host.
when i checked the pppoe status i get this message:
link is up and running on interface ppp0 and no packet errors both RX and TX.
The system upgrade did not happen on 27th due to the TZselec tconflicting files error.
    It is a fresh system.
i am pasting below the lines from the messages.log of 27th when i got the data transfer happened for the first time and next of 29th with the same system but nothing happening except i am connected.

Now in both the cases i got connected but as i said before except twice on  27th i am not able to have data transfer of any type either through ping or pacman upgrade.
Upon the same time i cross checked on my other systems, ubuntu and windows and i had no problems with the same, to confirm any issue with my isp. As of now i am typing one of those systems only.
I have googled a lot, read the other options of pppd, etc, but upon similar queries by other users found no viable solution to this problem.
My hostname is also proper in the config files. I also once used static ip for a change to see if things go working
but nothing is sucessful so far.
The only viable solution i read so far upon google search where there was a success was a fresh installation of arch by an user and he got the same working. But definitely i wont go with that. As i said above i got connected twice on the day of the installation and post that also i am now getting connected but with no data transfer.
Pls suggest what to do to get the connection working.
    regards

Upon a search on the forums yesterday
i read one user query on this forums who was advised the same and he had the same problem like me and it did not got solved with either methodds.
Last his query was still open. I did not save that link.
So i did not give that method a try so far, waiting for a solution for this method without going for new developments thinking a search for a day or two might get some viable results.
i guess you are mentioning the topic of this link
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pppd [This article explains how to set up a point-ti-point connections using pppd and the kernel PPPoE driver. ]
Further in my case the connection is happening and also getting disconnected. You can very well see the same in the  log file which i pasted.
    Jun 27 13:16:48 localhost pppd[888]: Connect time 18.8 minutes.

    Jun 29 18:04:04 localhost pppd[811]: Sent 0 bytes, received 926 bytes.
So same thing but different results on 2 different days. So what the problem really is i dont understand. Infact what the problem is the system is also not giving out, except that a connection happens, no data transfer takes place and the connection is cut and the stats are also show. Just diving to implement some new method or a reinstall, without resolving this which looks sensible yet senseless too, simply does not appeal here. If really there is some bug or issue with that rp-pppoe package then there is some point to jump to another method.
This must be solvable some way or other.
