PPPoE not working in 10.6
hi guys.
i have a problem with pppoe and 10.6. i installed 10.6 on my unibody macbook and now my network stopped working. i have a pppoe connection. i click to connect, it shows me that the connection was succesfully done, but when i open safari, i cant load any page.
the strange thing is that if i start up windows (using a virtual machine) and start any browser, i can surf the net.
so ... the pppoe connection is working, but os x 10.6 has issues with it (i reinstalled 10.5 and the pppoe connection worked fine).
so, what can i do ?
Long term solution for any OS or platform is to use an ADSL router or DSL gateway, that is a router with an integrated PPPoE client.
This has many benefits.
1. The router maintains and keeps the connection alive independently of any computers on the LAN. this ensures a reliable connection despite was Software you computers are using.
2. Gives you a robust firewall.
3. Easily allows you to share your internet connection with other computers, printers etc. and easliy allows file sharing etc
4. Improve ping times and dsl speeds.
5. takes the burden from your Mac giving your mac more cpu.
What is the make and model of your modem it may well be that it also has an integrated PPPoE client?

Hi,
My RV180 does not route properly between LAN and WAN through my PPPoE account. I am able to ping public IPs directly from the RV180 (through the diagnose section) but can not do it from any PC on LAN. The exact same configuration works perfectly well with a Linksys WTR610N. I upgraded formware from 1.0.0.30 to 1.0.1.9 but that did not make any difference.
The only time the RV180 will route is right after I reset to factory defaults and re-enter PPPoE account name and password. If I then reset my modem or the RV180, the RV180 does not route anymore between WAN and LAN even after several minutes and even though I can ping public IPs from the RV180.Here is the WTR610N's routing table with the same PPPoE user name and password:

Setting up PPPoE: Not working ??
Hi,
Linksys BEFW11S4 ver 2.6
I currently have Verizon DSL. When I got the self-installation kit many years ago, the Linksys installation disc installed the Wireless Connection under My Network Places. The Verizon installation disc installed a "dial-up" type of thing called Verizon Online under My Network Places.
Now, theoretically, I shouldn't need this Verizon Online connection should I? I should be able to set my Verizon username and password through my PPPoE settings under my router configurations right? (I'm assuming the Verizon installation disc did this since the average Joe wouldn't have to dig through the Linksys PPPoE configurations.)
Well, I did that all correctly, I believe. I went to the Status tab and clicked connect. It connected fine, and even got an IP address from Verizon. However, when I load up Internet Explorer, nothing. (One thing I am unsure about are the DNS servers).
Any help, guidelines, anything is greatly appreciated.

Message Edited by Matsuyama on 03-24-2008 08:34 PMOn the router's setup tab, is the pppoe connection set to keep alive? If you are using a westell or a speedstream modem, you'll need to change the router's address to a different range.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux! -
I use 2514 router connected to ZTE ADSL modem. Do I need somehow to "push" router to dial, how it must to start connecting ? Maybe there is something wrong with configuration:

After full system update ppp does not work anymore
Well, I have this problem:
1) I install Arch Linux from the latest Core
2) I manually install the latest versions of wvdial and its dependences (xplc and wvstreams). This is an offline installation (because I can't set up internet without wvdial. So I save these packages on USB drive, and there I lanch pacman -U *.pkg.tar.gz)
3) I set up my GPRS internet connection (I use a mobile phone)
Everything works well (i.e.: I can ping google without problem).
Problems arise if I decide to update my system. In this case, indeed, after updating and rebooting, my connection doesn't work no more. Everything works fine until I update. After update, I can say hello to my ppp.
Then, I add some some details.
These are the last lines of messages.log after a successful connection (i.e.: before the full update of my system)
pl2303 4-2:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
usb 4.2: pl2303 now attached to ttyUSB0
usbcore: registered new interface driver pl2303
pl2303: prolific pl2303 USB to serial adaptor driver
PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
NET: registered protocol family 10
lo: disabled privacy extensions
pppd 2.4.5 started by root, uid 0
using interface ppp0
connect ppp <-> /dev/ttyUSB0
PAP authenticate suceed
PPP BSD compression module registered
PPP deflate compression module registered
local IP address ...
remote ID address ...
primary DNS address ...
secondary DNS address ...
The last lines of messages.log after the update are:
pl2303 4-2:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
usb 4.2: pl2303 now attached to ttyUSB0

PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
NET: registered protocol family 10
lo: disabled privacy extensions
pppd 2.4.5 started by root, uid 0
As you can see, it's seems there are problems in "using ppp0 interface". Indeed, pppd starts, but ppp0 interface not. I can also add that ifconfig ppp0 up and similar commands do not work (ppp0: no such device, or something like that).
So, what can I do?I don't use ppp so this is just a guess. However, after a recent upgrade I saw a message from pacman:
[2010-02-14 09:07] >>> The kernel-mode plugin has a new place.
[2010-02-14 09:07] >>> It's now located under /usr/lib/rp-pppoe/rp-pppoe.so
[2010-02-14 09:07] >>> Change LINUX_PLUGIN to the new path in your /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf
[2010-02-14 09:07] upgraded rp-pppoe (3.10-2 -> 3.10-4)
Could this be the problem?

HT4798 username/password not working after upgrade to mountain lion
hello, on my imac after upgrading to mountain lion my computer password and/or username seems not to work anymore: when i want to install an update or search for updates on the app store the combination i used so far, does not work anymore. i tried to find out how to reset the computer password but without too much success, and i'm a bit confused, what can i do? thanks a lot
You went wrong at the very beginning by not erasing the hard drive of a used computer before starting to use it yourself. I suggest you do that now.
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices.
Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume. This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For a walkthrough, see here:
Using Setup Assistant
Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication. -
Dear Apple.
I was really happy with my iphone4s, IOS 6.0, great product amazing quality and posibilities BUT.......
I updated from IOS 6.0 to 6.1.1. and the WIFI nightmare started.
I waited for a new update to fix the WIFI problems and I updated my iphone 4s from 6.1.1. to 6.1.2. in order to solve these problems related with WIFI connections.
But IOS 6.1.2. is even worst:
- WIFI is not working at all. So I cannot download apps greater than 50MB.
- Battery life is shorter than ever.
- 3G goes in and out every minute.
- When you operate the iphone4s you can realize that is hotter than before.
These problems are unnaceptable and inconsistent with a high quality standard product.
You can read a lot of blogs, I am not the only one.
Please give us a solution as soon as possible.
Best Regards
AICITELThank you for your support.
My router is a TL-WR740N, and I think it has only a 2.4-2.4835GHz antenna.
So it seems that I have to keep on trying.
I also tryed to rename the router, still nothing.
Thank you anyway.

Gateway#Dear All,
I have Cisco 1841 router running the below roles
1) SSL VPN Server
2) PPTP Server
3) Site to Site Connection with Sonicwall router
I want the router to be configured a pptp client to internet vpn server (so that i will get a fixed public ip )
Once i get this ip address i want to use this connection to accept in coming connection and forward ports to internal host,
I went through below
http://www.mreji.eu/content/cisco-router-pptp-client
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2167562
But it does not work as i do not have the option for the below 2 commands in vpdn-group 2 section.(Please see section in blue)
protocol pptp

Airport express not working with optus network
Hi there, the airport express seems not working with my optus network. It is keeping me I cannot access the internet but I do have a wifi signal. Initially I thought there was some problems with Enhernet Wan port on the AE, but after I've done some research I found there might some changes needed to be done with my old router. All I know is im using a NETGEAR router, network type is PPPOE. Also, there were people metioned on the forum that theold modern should be changed to brigdeging mode. I have no idea what is it. Please help. cheers.
Configuration is simple if you start from a factory default condition. Then connect the Airport to AC power and finally to the Internet modem (or modem/router). Open Airport Utility on your Mac or other computer and accept all of the recommendations. After confirming that it works, insert your desired administrative and WiFi passwords.
Do not expect the Airport to respond instantly to the configuration commands. BE PATIENT! -
Hi,
Though I found some similar discussions here, none is exactly the same as mine, so let me explain.
I have a basic DSL modem connecting to my line and it's in 1483 Bridge mode, Ethernet is connected to my Time Capsule 1st Gen and time capsule is terminating the PPPoE connection, receiving the IP and rest directly from the provider.
Yesterday it just stopped working, airport says "no PPPoE server available". I disconnected time capsule, and have the same config on the modem itself, it just works fine (so that I can write here:) so nothing wrong on the line. I've checked my DSL user/pass on time capsule, restarted it, resetted it, restarted the modem, my mac and everything.
Time capsule just decided not the work with the PPPoE anymore, whatelse should or could I do?
thanks in advancesayan wrote:
No, as mentioned Time Capsule has the PPPoE config, not my computer. Computer has basic IP config, no PPPoE client.
Yes, I've restarted both modem and TC as mentioned, again.
I know have a temp solution, terminating PPPoE at the modem, using TC in bridge mode for IP this time. So modem provides DHCP server functionality.
PPPoE still doesn't work on TC
If the computer gets internet by direct connection to the modem.. without running pppoe then the modem is not bridged.. if the modem is not bridged then it already has a pppoe connection to the ISP. Therefore when it used to work in the past you were making a second connection .. pppoe passthrough on the modem .. the ISP was giving you a second IP address and I would guess they finally got tired of this and stopped your second access.
The modem must be bridged for pppoe to work unless you have an ISP that allows multiple pppoe logins.. that is why I asked about the pc using pppoe.. it has to.. if not the single IP most ISP already allocate is already used up.
Bridge the modem.. setup pppoe again on the TC. Reboot both.. if it fails, talk to your ISP and see if they have an existing login, that is messing their system up. -
How i resolve F11 not working in hp pavilion 15-b001ee

Hi,
Try performing recovery from within Windows after logging in. You need to search for recovery manager and select i need help immediately. Here is the link with instructions:
Recovery from Windows 8
Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Per Session / per User shaping and queuing not working on 7206/7204 on 15.2
Hello,
we are running the following scenario - to provide QoS (shaping/queueing) for our broadband (pppoe) users, we have configured several service-policies on our 7206/7204 BRAS-Routers. The service-policies are applied with RADIUS-Attributes when the pppoe-users dials in. The service-policies look like this
policy-map POL-BM-DEF-P_4m-DSCP-OUT
description << Parent Policy 4 mbps >>
class class-default
shape average 3900000
bandwidth 3900
service-policy POL-BM-DEF-C_4m-DSCP-OUT
policy-map POL-BM-DEF-C_4m-DSCP-OUT
description << Child Policy 4 mbps >>
class CM-VO-DEF-DSCP
priority 900
police cir 900000
conform-action transmit
exceed-action drop
class CM-VS-DEF-DSCP
bandwidth 100
class CM-ID-DEF-DSCP
bandwidth 900
class CM-MS-DEF-DSCP
bandwidth 600
class CM-MC-DEF-DSCP
bandwidth 300
class CM-NC-DEF-DSCP
bandwidth 150
class CM-NM-DEF-DSCP
bandwidth 150
class class-default
bandwidth 800
We are applying the policies with the following Cisco-AV-Pair attribute
lcp:interface-config=service-policy output POL-BM-DEF-P_4m-DSCP-OUT
Until recently that did work pretty good when using software 12.2(33)SRC3. But it turned out that there is a bug in this software that causes that the policy is applied but not working correct sometimes. See bug CSCsv27825. Although that bug does not match the software we are using, the symptoms do. Basically the parent shaper is not working, so there is no backpressure, no need for qos to kick in ;-)
The recommendation was to upgrade to Version 15.2(4)M5. When downloading the image there was a recommendation on the website to use Version 15.2(4)M6 instead, because of some important bugfixes. So we installed that, system cmes back online, everything works - except the service-policies. they are not applied at all any more.
After doing some tests it turns out that
- Policies that shape are not applied. It does not matter if using the ip:sub-qos-policy-out=xxx or lcp:interface-config=service-policy output xxx attribute.
- Policies that police like the one here are applied
policy-map POL-POLICE-DEF-P_1M-DSCP-OUT
class class-default
police 1000000
We prefer the shaping way, because of the smoother handling of bursty traffic.
Any ideas/recommendations ? I've tbeen readign a litte bit on the internet - that problem is not new, but unfortunately no one has a solution :-(
Best regards
Carsten
Short update: as soon as some queuing configuration is present in the policy (parent and/or child) it is not applied. i tried to be extra clever and combine the "policer" parent policy with our child-policy which does priority queuing - not applied. Even the parent-policy alone with no child policy (just the shaper) is not gettign applied.
Any ideas what to debug to get a reason why it is not working ?Please Ignore Spelling errors. "I asked" replaced "It asked".

Wireless Network not Working as expected. Please Help
I have Verizon Fios install in my home. I use to have Comcast. This is the situation, before the Fios my linksys wireless router was connected directly to a modem. Now my linksys wireless router is connected to the Verizon wireless router/modem.
The problem I am having is this, my linksys wireless router is still transmitting and the new Verizon router is also transmitting. I can connect to both but only the Verizon wireless router seem to be working.
The linksys wireless router, even though I can connect to its network, is not working, that is I can't go on the internet with it.You have to configure the router for DSL connection. Try these steps: Access the setup page of the router by launching an Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
click on ok. On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".- Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online If you are getting Ip - 192.168.1.X ...change the LAN Ip to 192.168.2.1 ....Power cycle for 3-4 minutes ...Try going online
If still not working ...use Internet Connection type as PPPOE .... Use Username & Password provided by Service Provider ....Click save settings....
Look for WAN IP address again under status page .... -
Safari for Lion no longer works (backslash through the Application). I have tried to reload but that will not work because it says I have a higher version already installed. I tried to eliminate the current non working Safari but it is not allowed as "it is reqd for OS 10.7. How can I reinstall a working version of Safari.
Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

Is there a single chord that could be purchased either online, or preferably somewhere like BestBuy, that could let my Macbook Pro display onto an HDTV, so I could watch movies on it that I have downloaded, without buying an Apple TV? Thanks
