PPro 5.5 and Sounddevices Pix 240
Attempting to edit footage in PPro 5.5.2 shot on Sony F3 output to Sounddevices Pix240. Footage is 1080 23.98. Some clips ProRes and others ProRes HQ.
In all cases, video imports without a problem. Audio is either dual mono or single mono, but in all cases, PPro imports only one track which it places on Audio 4. I cannot get any audio playback at all. Nothing in audio meters. No output to Kona 3G card. Nothing. This is footage from 2 different F3's with same Pix240 and happens with both cameras. This same QT will import into FCP 7 and FCP X and will playback audio both on computer and through SDI to Kona 3G.
PPro is not showing any of the wonky gamma issues with ProRes that have plagued FCP 7. In one of the clips, I have a window completely blown out probably 109 at least. FCP 7 clips it at 100. PPro gives me the full range. So, I desperately want PPro to work for me.
Any ideas?
Ned Soltz
I seem to be answering own questions. This solution is courtesy of a colleague writer.
Created a 4-track sequence in FCP 7 and exported that as self-contained movie. Brought that .mov into PPro. PPro saw 4 mono tracks and audio was present. Now PremierePro was unable to play the clip without stuttering and stalling so that raises another issue. Certainly the machine specs can handle ProRes HQ-- 8 core MacPro, 16gb RAM, Quadro 4000, ATTO R680 driving 8 drive miniSAS array, Kona 3G (latest 9.1 software for Kona and CS5.5 as well as latest Kona firmware).
EDIT
Here's the answer after a day of research
The original Pix240 firmware did indeed have issues with CS 5.5. The 1.02 firmware which actually was the shipping version fixed the issue. PPro 5.5.2 broke the fix. SD is aware and the fix will be released in the next firmware update, which is "soon."
Thanks to all who contributed to the thread. I'l post when the fix is released.

Is the C100 compatible with the PIX 240?
I know the answer should be yes, but I am having trouble with mine.
When plugged directly into the PIX, I get a "no video" warning and the HDMI menus blink showing imcompatability. But, when I run the HDMI through a simple 5v splitter, the signal locks in immediately.
I've spoken with Canon a couple of times as well as Sound Devices and I'm not getting anywhere. The C100 feeds a monitor just fine. The Pix records other HDMI inputs without a problem. But the two together just don't work. Has anyone else run into this situation? I've talked to a couple of other shooters and rental houses and all of their units are compatable and working. I do have the latest firmware on both units. I have run through the menus with both companies. Is there something I am missing? A small setting somewhere that will clear this up?
To make it worse, I have a colleague who also owns a C100 and his also does not show up on the PIX. I'm not about to purchase a Ninja as I have the PIX already it it works with everythign else I own. Just wish I could get an answer on why it won't cooperate with the C100.
All comments welcome. A forwarded solution may result in several comped beverages at NAB in April.I've spoken with Canon tech support twice.
Frame rate is not the issue. 1) The recorder auto detects what is coming in and displays it. Record settings are then made available based upon what is being fed in. 2) The hardware converter in this is pretty good so converting has yet to be a problem.
But... I cant even get that far. The signal is not recognized, at all. The recorder just states :No Input Same as if nothing is plugged in. When the recorder is plugged in, otput options under the HDMI menu in the camera are no longer available. They blink or grey out. This result has been reproduced with a second C100.
Yesterday I tested the recorder with 4 different cameras with different resolutions and frame rates. All worked thru the HDMI input to the PIX 240 except the C100. I dont want to be pointing a finger but getting the responce over the phone of, "it not in our unit" is discouraging when its the only one I am having trouble with.
~~~~~~~~~~
I did the test with a colleague present. He is confused as well and asked if there was an OVERRIDE option that would turn off the HDMI communication? That would atleast allow the info to go from the camera out to the recorder with out getting an "imcompatable" signal back in that greys out the menus.
Any thougths on this? I have a second PIX unti being lined up to test with that. If I get the same results on that unit it will confirm it is in the camera. -
IPhoto 08 Problems: Crashes on new iMac and library pix now out of focus
I updated my Intel MacBook and all seems OK so far using the iLife 08 Family Pack I bought.
On a new Intel iMac iPhoto 08 crashes frequently and library pix appear to have lost sharpness/focus. Obviously, the user for this iMac is not happy.
1. Is the new "package" iPhoto file protocol responsible for this?
2. If so, can anything be done?
3. Would downgrading to previous version of iPhoto work if I exported all photos on that iMac and imported them into the previous version?Richard_RP
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How did you go about the Upgrade of the library? Can you give us any details abot when the crashes happen? On opening? On Editing? Randomly?
Some basic troubleshooting:
Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
No the new Package protocol has nothing to do with this.
Yes, downgrading would work.
I ran MacKeeper and demo'd my wife's iPhoto archive bigtime: RAW files appear corrupted and lotsa pix w/no thumbnails or "!" marks instead. Help!
Should I take it that recco'd means 'recommended'? Still have no idea what demo'd means in the context you use. I've often seem it as an abbreviation for 'demonstrate' but that makes no sense. The problem with idiosyncratic abbreviations is that other people don't understand them.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
PPro CS4 update and the Bangladesh connection
I think that I may have come upon a clue as to why this waaaay-premature CS4 release is working so poorly. So, I purchased Audition 3.0 because Soundbooth is so crippled (can't normalize to a specific level, can't hard limit to a specific level, etc.). I saw in the PPro CS4 help that if I did "Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition"... yeah that works. I had audition 2.0, but the prompt in PP CS4 wasn't there, I thought that maybe I needed ver 3.0, so I plunked down another $99.00, downloaded, installed. Nothing. Adobe said that if I downloaded PPro CS4 4.0.1 update, it would work. Opened the app, Help > Updates... The Adobe updater launched and started the process. and every time the updater blew up (all 11 times,) the error message read, "Updater did not Worked". I swear to God. Perhaps had Adobe hired programmers from somewhere other than third-world countries for their much vaunted release of CS4, they a - would have gotten a better product, and b - the error messages, being written by programmers whose first language is English, would be grammatically and contextually correct. Just a thought.
Standard troubleshooting is:
- Reset (hold sleep/wake & home button until the Apple logo appears)
- Restore (connect to iTunes and restore)
If this doesn't correct the issue, check with your carrier about obtaining a new SIM card.
If you still have problems at that point, make an appointment with whoever covers warranty service in Norway. -
Uauth and proxy (PIX 515E 6.3)
I need some help with uauth usage. How to prevent from unauthorized access if someone is using proxy. For example user A need to access page A and is authorized to do this. user A goes throught proxy server. When user A is out of office (still logged in) user B (unauthorized to access page A) can open page A without need of authentication (for example timeout uauth is set: 0:0:0 absolute and 0:1:0 inactivity). Is there any possibility to use in addition to verification port numbers ? PIX after show uauth shows if 2 users use proxy 1.1.1.1:
user 'A' at 1.1.1.1, authorized to: (idle for 0:21:29)
Of course user B using the same proxy will not be listed after show uauth - becase there is not need to authorize this user (first was user A).
Is there any possibility to authenticate and authorize everyone - with proxy like separate session ?http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2120/products_command_reference_chapter09186a0080104256.html#32763
currently on the PIX there is only one way to do this with the command
timeout uauth
uauth hh:mm:ss
Duration before authentication and authorization cache times out and user has to reauthenticate next connection. This duration must be shorter than the xlate values. Set to 0 to disable caching. -
FLV exported from PPro jumps up and down...
Hello... I'm exporting an FLV from Premiere Pro CS4 (Mac). When playing back on both Adobe Media Player and when posted on my website it jumps up and down periodically - the whole video pops upward several inches, then back down again, then up again...etc. Has anyone had this before? Ideas? Have played with export settings to no avail. Any help or suggestions most appreciated. Tx.
Thank you for all your replies. In examining my projects details more closely to post here (see below) I think I've had an "Aha" moment. It seems the jumping happens on the clips that the GenArts effects are applied to. (The video isn't up on the website as I didn't want to post it as long as this issue pertained. Will let you know if I get around to putting it up for entertainment...er...educational value...but right now would rather spend time sorting the problem out.;)
I think if I exported this Sequence and made another project with that clip as a whole unit THEN exported an FLV it would probably solve the jumping - IF it is indeed being caused by the effects. Although it always irks to have to add a bunch of steps....
Now - as CS4 doesn't export AVI from a MAC :-( (...does anyone know if CS5 does? It is a preferred format and I can't believe CS4 took it away...) what would be the best format to export as, keeping in mind I don't want to lose any quality... .mov? .mp4?
Export Settings
Format: FLV/FV4
Preset: FLV - Same as Source Flash 8 and Higher
Codec On2 VP6 (tried Sorenson Park…same prob. and lousy resolution…)
Frame Rate: Same as Source
Bitrate Encoding: VBR (tried CBR…same prob.)Encoding Passes: One (tried 2…same problem)
Bitrate: 1,500
Undershoot 90% target
Source footage is mostly .avi with an .mp4 for the logo at the end.
Audio is .wav
**Effects: Some brief Gen Arts Posterize, Edge Rays, Glint, Glare, Lens Flare. All applied individually, not layered on top of each other.**
(I will check with GenArts on the apparent affect of their effects.)
Thanks again for your input.
I have a S.M.A.R.T error on my current Hitachi drive that came with me Early 2011 Macbook pro. Want to upgrade to SSD.
Trying to decide between Samsung 840 EVO 250gb and Crucial M500 240gb, at this gb range, the Samsung is faster and uses less wattage....ONE PROBLEM...I have read many user experiences that note it is much less mac-friendly...
The software samsung offers is not IOS compatible and some report lower than expected speeds after installation...Also apparently the RAPID MODE of the drive, the fastest drive mode is nonexistant when installed on a Macbook pro?
Should I opt for the slower and more power cosuming Crucial M500 240gb SSD because it is more Mac-friendly? Does anyone have a Samsung 840 EVO 250 gb SSD installed in their macbook pro? What has been your experience?
Thanks ahead of time!
Resoure: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crucial-m500-1tb-ssd,3551.htmlI decided against the Evo as there are too many Mac users that have had issues with slow speed on them. Even without these, the main speed that Samsung states for the Evo comes form turbo Write which is a PC only feature as is software dependent.
I'm sorry but Crucials M500 is simply too slow compared to modern drives to be recomended. Read speed is ok, but the write is far too slow for the price.
I've used and installed both a Samsung 840 basic and a Samsung 840 Pro in 2 separate Mac books! and currently have the 840 Pro in my own MacBook Pro and it comes very highly recomended. It's all but the fastest Sata III drive you can buy - A few OCZ drives just edge it but the difference is negligible. Samsung by far have the best reliability though when it comes to SSD's. I've been getting 520Mb/s easily on mine consistently, and without getting a MacBook with a PCIe drive you won't get a faster more reliable drive.
I really would recommend nothing else. -
Sharing Aperture and iPhoto pix
Is this possible? We have iPhoto and Aperture on the LAN and would like to share pictures. I don't see how to do it but maybe I am missing something?
No they don't share pictures.
It's tempting to think of Aperture as the "iPhoto Pro", but it's not. It's a very different app from iPhoto. iPhoto has no ability whatever to read the (much more complex) Aperture database.
The best you can do is set your Aperture Previews to share with the iLife apps, then use the File -> Show Aperture Library command in iPhoto. You can drag the pics from the media browser to the iPhoto Window to import them. Note that you are only getting your Previews
You can do similar with in Aperture using the File -> Show iPhoto Browser command.
But neither app can show the other's photos without the photo being first imported.
IPSEC Tunnel between JUNIPER (SSG 20) and CISCO PIX 501
I have successfully established the IPSEC tunnel with juniper firewall by using cisco Pix 501 (6.3 version). The problem I am facing, I have network layer connectivity but after time interval I am not able to send the traffic on destination IP address on specific port, but can successfully PING the destination IP. On both firewalls the IPs are permitted for all ports.
ACS Shell Command Authorization Sets on IOS and ASA/PIX Configuration
Hi,
I need to activate a control privileges of users on various devices.
I found this interesting document:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2086/products_configuration_example09186a00808d9138.shtml
and using a router with IOS 124-11.XV1 work normally while using a switch 2960-24TC with IOS 12.2.25SEE3 not working.
All users (read and full access) access on a not priviledge mode.
WHY?
I have a ACS v3.3 build 2
I have a 2960-24TC with IOS 12.2.25SEE3
I tried with a acs v4.1 without success.
Thanks.If you want user to fall directly in enable mode,then you should have this command,
aaa authorization exec default group tacacs+ if-authenticated
Bring users/groups in at level 15
1. Go to user or group setup in ACS
2. Drop down to "TACACS+ Settings"
3. Place a check in "Shell (Exec)"
4. Place a check in "Privilege level" and enter "15" in the adjacent field
Router-to-PIX VPN Tunnels fade in and out
Does anyone know of any problems with Router-to-PIX vpn tunnels? For a number of months we've had about 35 831Routers vpn'd into our PIX515 and the tunnel has been stable. Recently, however, the tunnel has been dropping out at a number of sites.
When the tunnel goes down the users still have access to their local internet but obviously not to the shared network resources of the vpn tunnel. In most cases the tunnel can be re-established at each location simply by rebooting the router. Only problem with that is that some of the locations are having to reboot their 831Router more than two or three times a day.
I've added keepalive statements into theconfig of the routers and the PIX. Specifically I've added these two lines to the routers:
Crypto isakmp keepalive 10 5
crypto ipsec secutity-association lifetime seconds 28800
I added a similar isakmp keepalive to the PIX. Any suggestions would be appreciated as some of my users are getting frustrated.
Thank you,
ChrisTry using the debug commands and see if you are getting any error messages that might give us some idea.
BorderManager and Pix Firewall
Hello,
Just implemented NSBS6.5 for a small bank with Pix firewall's inner IP
address as my next router on hop.Was able to send mails out but could not
receive inbound mails.Also the Bank's web site could no longer be
assesible from within the bank but could be connected to from any where
outside the bank's network.Could ping from the BorderManager proxy with
public IP of 172.16.1.2 to the Pix private with IP of 172.16.1.1
Moreover,a MaCafe Antivirus appliance was brought in and connected btw
the BorderManager Proxy server and the Pix firewall with a bridged
connection and an assigned IP address of 172.16.1.3 and 172.16.1.4 At
this
instance,could no longer ping the Pix 172.16.1.1, but could ping both
interface of the MaCafe appliance.Could not also send nor receive mails
via the mail proxy.
I intend bringing the MaCafe appliance before the BorderManager Proxy
and
assign a LAN address to it since it has a bridged config,so as to isolate
the problem of this appliance.
I need to get the mail server running perfectly and the website
assesible.Pls kindly help my case.
Regards,
Sesan.you need to go ask this in the support.bordermanager.install-setup
group as this group is for the client firewall product only.
Cheers!
Hi -
We are going into a WAAS deployment and have PIX firewalls running 6.3 code. We are looking to place the WAAS devices on the inside of our firewalls at each end. They will be deployed with WCCP, not inline mode.
I know the "inspect" commands are available in 7.x code, but it will be a big pain to upgrade these firewalls.
From what I read, the WAAS devices use IP or TCP options. Is this true? That's why you need the inspect on 7.x? Is there a way to preserve the options in 6.3 code?
Thanks in advance for a reply! : )Hi Zach;
I am doing one WAAS POC, and I have the problem of the no optmization connections. I reconfigured my appliances, but the prooblem happen, yet.
I would like if pix version ( 6.3.5 ) can to be the my problem?
The brief topology is in attach files.
Fabio
