PPro CS4 crashes when importing After Effects comp

I am using Premiere Pro CS4 on Mac, when i try to import an after effects comp that uses the zaxwerks "flag" plugin, premier crashes...why?

Does this happen only when you use the plug-in, or for all comps?

It's possible that your firewall software is blocking the communication between After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder. See this page for a solution if that is the underlying problem:

  • Indesign CS4 crashes when importing ai or pdf

When importing native AI files or pdfs ID crashes. EPS files import fine. These are just logo files with no fonts.
Any ideas? We cannot open any of our stationery as they keep crashing!

I have just opened another doc, 48pp manual, the same thing happens. The first three pages do not have .ai files placed on them, the fourth does. As soon as I scroll to the fourth page it quits unexpectedly. If I remove these files it will not crash until I get to the next page with the same file type.
I downloaded a demo of CS5 and this is fine, so is this a bug or have all illustrator file become corrupt all of a sudden??
    Anyone have a work around?

  • Indesign CS4 Crashes When Importing Another Indesign CS4 File

Help! Every time I try to import an Indesign file into another Indesign file, my Indesign crashes. Also happens when I try to open an existing Indesign file that has files already imported into it. This is a problem because I have existing files I need to work on that I cannot open now!
I'm running CS4 on a new iMac running Lion 10.7.3. Everything is updated and current. My problem started when I transferred all my files via firewire from my previous iMac running 10.6. However, another iMac in the office running exactly the same thing is NOT having this same problem. So it's definitely something with my Mac, but I can't figure out what.
I have tried restoring the Indesign preferences by holding down all the Control, Shift, Option & Command keys. I have also re-installed Indesign CS4 from the original CD.
    Ideas? Thanks!

In case anyone comes across this problem, I think I've found a solution. Seems that Extensis Suitcase Fusion 2 was causing the problem. Extensis says Fusion 2 is not compatible with Lion. However, when I upgraded to Suitcase Fusion 3, I was still have the problem, though not as often. After contacting Extensis again, they told me:
This is a known issue with Suitcase Fusion 3. I can tell you a workaround and I have passed your information onto the developers so you're notified about a fix.
Here's the workaround:  You need to uncheck activate fonts in embedded objects in your Suitcase Fusion 3 InDesign preferences.  Here's how you do that:
    1)      Open InDesign by itself (no documents)
    2)      Go to the “Type” menu
    3)      Go down to “Suitcase Fusion 3” (it should show up at the bottom of the Type menu)
    4)      Choose “Suitcase Fusion 3 Auto-Activation Preferences…”
    5)      Uncheck Activate fonts in embedded objects
    6)      Load your document.
    Hope that helps someone!

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes When Importing HD Clips

I've used Camtasia forever but recently decided to "upgrade" to Premiere Pro when I got my new Macbook.  Not being familiar with Premiere at all, I thought I would play with it with a few short clips.  I have HD footage of my martial arts class which I shot with my Canon Vixia HG20 and copied it to my Macbook.  However, when I imported a few clips into Premiere Pro and try to play it, it hangs.  It will play one or two clips and then it stops responding after that.
All in all, it's only about 2 minutes of footage that I've put into Premiere Pro.  I have no problems putting the clips into the Timeline but when I try to preview the clips (either in the source monitor or the program monitor windows), Premiere Pro gives me the little rainbow pinwheel and 20 minutes later, it's still spinning around.  I bought a 500Gb external hard drive to use as the scratch disk because I thought maybe it was a space issue having everything on my Macbook but I still get the pinwheel.  My only solution is to force quit the program.
I have a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro on OS X (10.5.6) with 4GB of memory, GeForce 8600M graphics card, and 200GB hard drive.  I've read about a of of the crashes on here but didn't really see anything similar to my situation.  Any ideas?  I spent a lot on Premiere Pro and am not willing to give up on it  quite yet.
    Please and thank you!

17 Mbps is still at the high end, but IMHO they should ultimately work.
Very often with AVCHD, you have to play a clip until it freezes, then wait.  If you monitor CPU usage during the waiting time, you'll see that it is quite active.  The process using the CPU is the ImporterProcessServer, which has to do some kind of magical stuff to the AVCHD clips in order for them to play and scrub in Pr.  Once the IPS is done, you should be able to scrub and play the clip just fine.
Usually you only have to do this once per clip, but sometimes more.  Sometimes the work that the IPS does carries over between Pr sessions, and sometimes it doesn't.
Smaller frame sizes and lower bit rates in AVCHD video helps make the editing experience in Pr much better.
My hope is that the upcoming 4.1 update will address some of these AVCHD issues.

  • CS4 Crashes when importing models

I've made a 3D scene in 3DS Max and I'm trying to import a model to a 3D layer, however when I do this Photoshop crashes everytime.
I must close it and reopen it and try again, each time failed.
All my graphics drivers are up to date.
I've managed to do it before in the past, however I cannot do it anymore
    Any suggestions please guys?
    Vista Business 32-bit
    8800GTS 640mb
    2GB RAM

What do the models contain? Are they properly converted to polygons before saving? Do you use any extended options when saving to the 3DS format to retain specific info from MAX? Quite possible that you are using a non-standard shader somewhere or have added a comment to an item that will end up as an "opaque" chunk in the exported file and crashes PS.

  • PPro CS4 crashing when running on RAID 1

Hi I used to have Premiere Pro CS4 running reasonably stable on a i7 920/12GB RAM, Vista Business system, with data on 2x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD's in a RAID 1 (mirror) arrangement. The RAID is Intel's Rapid Storage Technology off a Gigabyte X58 mobo.
Then I moved the O/S and the applications (including CS4) on a separate system RAID 1 using the same Intel system. The computer is having terrible problems launching applications, with extremely long delays/system freezes/blue screens and so on. The problems are erratic, cannot identify any patterns.
I thought Vista was getting long in the tooth after 18 months from installation so I performed a clean install of Win7 Home Premium, reinstalled CS4, upgraded everything.... Same result.
My system builder maintains the system RAID should make no difference to the behaviour of the operating system and of CS4. We've checked temperature, RAM etc. It does not seem to be a hardware problem, although we're yet to replace the motherboard.
The obvious answer would be to forgo the extra safety of the system RAID 1 and go back to having OS & apps on a single disk... or does anyone have any advice?
    Many thanks
    Claudio

It looks like there could be a number of issues.
    1. Congestion on the IHCR10 with two separate arrays.
    2. Some services or processes use the arrays at the same time, like indexing, compression, defragger, iTunes, etc.
    3. Your system still needs some optimization. Look here: Windows 7 Service Configurations by Black Viper
How many processes are running when you start PR? Use Process Explorer for that, not Task Manager. If more than 50, tune your system further.

  • Premiere CS4 crash when import

    Hi.
I'm having trouble with premiere. I start it and when i import file, it imports, and then strarts workin and freezes.. I'm using Mac Leopard 10.5.6, QuadCore q6600, 4gbRAM, 620GB sata2 hdd, gef9400gt..
It's quite annoying i cant edit my jobs, could someone help me?
    thx

Don't think that the machine specs did attach, or not that I could see.
Since you're on a Mac, I'd *guess* that you're working with .MOV files. Please furnish all the details fo those files. The CODEC's contained within the .MOV wrapper are necessary. Also, can you tell us where the files came from? This might yield a clue, about them. Did you Capture from a tape-based camera, via PrPro, or other?
The more detail that you can furnish, the better. Some of your problem might be Mac-specific, but some might not. For the Mac-specifc stuff, you'll need a Mac user to help. For the rest, maybe some of the PC folk can assist you.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] Harm's comment in the other thread on having one HDD is a good one, regardless of Mac, or PC.

  • Program monitor constantly freezing/stalling when playing dynamically linked After Effects comps

I'm having program monitor issues when I try to play dynamically linked After Effects comps from my Premiere timeline. I realize it's expected to have jerky playback since After Effects comps are memory and CPU intense, but it doesn't seem normal for these things to happen:
Sometimes during playback, the program monitor completely freezes while audio continues to play and the CTI continues to move along timeline. When this happens, there's no way to stop the playback at all using mouse or keyboard... so I'm forced to just quit Premiere and re-open project.
Program monitor can also freeze when I place the CTI on top of the After Effects comp. Sometimes if I wait a minute, the screen could update and eventually display the After Effects comp.
I'm unable to render effects on the Premiere timeline because it just hangs at "Rendering frame 0" and never advances forward.
There's nothing special about the After Effects comp I'm linked to... it could just be regular text that I animated using ease keyframes and motion blur.
I originally thought it was related to GPU settings but it doesn't make a difference if I set After Effects to use CPU instead of GPU or set Premiere's Mercury Playback engine to software, CUDA, or openGL. I even have the latest CUDA drivers installed on my Mac. But I must mention that this issue got significanly worst after updating to OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
    Here's my system details:
    OSX 10.9 Mavericks
    Premiere 7.0.1 (105)
After Effects 12.0.1.7 (I installed the OS X Mavericks crash update fix)
The most prevalent error messages displayed in the OSX console is:
Adobe Premiere Pro CC[402]: dynamic_cast error 1: Both of the following type_info's should have public visibility.  At least one of them is hidden. N5dvaui2ui8MessageTIKNS0_7UI_NodeEEE, N5dvaui8controls23UI_PictureSupplyMessageE.
Here's a few that are less common:
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC[402]: [PremiereCocoaMacApplication handleMenuCommand:1633841013 from <DVAMacMenuItem: 0x6100002f8300 About Premiere Pro>]
After Effects[377]: -[NSMenu menuID]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x600000077080
If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    -Pete

I think I found the problem... OSX Mavericks introduced a power saving feature called App Nap that basically slows down an app that appears to be doing nothing or is minimized in the background.
So essentually when I try to display an After Effects dynamically linked comp via my Premiere timeline, it freezes because OSX put After Effects to sleep.
To fix this, I had to disable the App Nap feature on After Effects. Now everything is performing back at pre-Mavericks levels (which is about 10% stalling playback issues vs 90% stalling). I also noticed that all of the console errors went away.
To disable App Nap in OSX...
    Go to your Applications folder
Expand the After Effects CC folder
Right-click on "Adobe After Effects CC.app" and select Get Info
Add a checkmark beside "Prevent App Nap"
    Restart the application
I also did this with all my Adobe apps just to be safe.
    Hope this helps

  • OpenGL crash error when opening after effects

When I try to load up After Effects it crashes and says "After effects crashed previously attempting to initialize OpenGL". I have updated my graphics card drivers etc. What do I do

This should help you guys hopefully. I am using the After effects cs6 and it crashes on startup with the error "After effects crahses previously attempting to initialize OpenGL. • "Unable to create font" error when starting After Effects CS4 (Windows Vista)

    Hi all
I have read a hundred posts about the "unable to create font" message that appears when running After Effects in both CS4 and CS5 versions.
On MAC, it seems that installing the Verdana fonts family is enough.
On my PC running Windows Vista, i tried unsuccessfully :
    - uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects
    - installed all the fonts of the Adobe Font Folio v11
    - looked for the "AdobeFnt.lst" to delete it, found no such file in my whole hard drive
    - changed my system language to English (USA)
    Other CS4 softwares work.
    What can i do?

See this page for some additional information about this error.
    > I forgot to mention that i also installed the 9.0.2 update. Didn't work either!
You should also install the After Effects CS4 (9.0.3) update.

  • CS4 Crashes when copying effects

Every once in a while, AE CS4 crashes when I attempt to copy one or more effects from a composition. It's unpredictable, it works fine 10-20 times, then crashes. It happens whether I use the keyboard shortcut or the edit menu. It's happened 15 times in the last few days (I'm color grading a feature film), and despite my best efforts, I've found no solution to this rather annoying problem. Fortunately I haven't lost any progress, as it successfully saves during crash, but the long time it takes to reopen the project is seriously slowing down my work, and I have a deadline approaching fast.
    CS4 Master Collection
    Windows 7 Home Edition x64
    12GB ram
    Core i7 980x Extreme
An error message appears, I think it usually says something about ae.blitpipe being the last thing sent. I've tried it in numerous compatibility modes, some seem to work better than others, but they all eventually crash.
Let me know what additional information you need to help me work through this problem, it's making my job very frustrating.

    The usual combination is:
    Halsubalance (Pixel Bender)
    HDR Highlight Compression
    Linear_Vignette (Pixel Bender)
    Curves
    Hue/Saturation
However the crash has also happened when copying just one or a subset of these filters.
    Color space: 16bpc, HDTV (Rec.709)
I've considered the Animation Preset route, but with the number of scenes/shots in the project and the frequent changes I have to make, it seems like it would quickly become very unwieldy. I may go that route regardless if there is no other option, but I would really like to fix the copy/paste situation.

  • Does anyone else this error after iPhoto crashes when importing?

I tried searching for answers on Google, Bing, Webcrawler, and even Wolfram but there is no answer for this anywhere on the web.  Just got done installing my new hard drive.  I made sure to backup EVERYTHING and I even made a zip copy of my iphoto library.
On my initial first launch of iPhoto, I try to import my library and iPhoto crashes after about 3 seconds.  In the error report window that comes up, it lists this as the reason why it was terminated:
'[<NSCFDictionary 0x1f0ad190> valueForUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key 1140.'
Does anyone know if this is a simple code fix or how to solve errors like these?  Remember, this is fresh install of OS X on a new SSD hard drive.  All of my Adobe apps are running great with no hassles.  The only apps that are giving me trouble are iPhoto and Aperture.
Even worse is that now Aperture is stalling every time I try to export a version of a photo that I retouched.  I'm thinking it probably has something to do with why iPhoto constantly crashed when importing.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

When I said, "import," I meant that I do drag my iphoto library as whole and drop it into iPhoto.
That is eactly what you NEVER do - that is importing the old library into the new one - you never do that
    again it is very simple
You NEVER Import an iPhoto library - period
You drag an iPhoto Library  intact as a single entity to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto --  No importing involved
