PPro CS4: Problem with program monitor widescreen video

Hi Guys
I shot my video in 16:9 aspect ration. I created a new project with "widescreen 48KHz DV-PAL" in PPro and I was ready to go.
I imported the video in avi format and all was OK. Now, I opened my first avi video file from the project panel in the source monitor: the video aspect ratio was still OK.
Now, I dragged the video from the source monitor to the sequence and the video aspect ratio was OK in the program (as far a I remember), i.e. the video in the source monitor was the same as in the program monitor. I then inserted a short mpg video in the project panel > source monitor > sequence. Then I realised the mpg aspect ratio was not the same as my avi video asoect ratio, so I decided to take out the mpg file from the whole project altogether.
Now I'm left with a problem: the video aspect ratio in the program monitor is stuffed up... Instead of having black bars only above and below the video as in the source monitor, I now have extra black bars on the left and right of the video!
If I already did some editing for an hour or so & realised this problem then, it would have been worse. I'm happy that I picked it up in the first 5 monutes of editing.
I have attached a screen print of this problem - please help me guys on how fix the video in the program monitor.
Many thanks in advance.
Walter

Thanks Harm & Jim
Hmmm... so this means that the camcoders (I shot using a camcoder) cannot shoot in REAL 16:9? Even if I change the aspect ratio on my camera to be 16:9, the actual shooting is in fact 4:3. This is interesting...
Just a matter of interest, what sort of video cameras can shoot in real 16:9?
OK, I created a new project in standard 4:3 DV-PAL preset and imported my old PPro project file and the video in the program monitor much, much better.
You know that's what I love about PPro: one can import a PPro project into another PPro project!
Also, that's what I love these Adobe forums - you guys are really helpful. I wish the Ruby on Rails forums were this good as well. Anyway, thanks to all you guys!

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - Problem with the monitor program.

Hi. I'm not able solving problems with the monitor using PremiereProCS4. When I drag a photo (also only one photo) in the timeline and play it in the monitor program, vision in the monitor program doesn't run:black monitor or a little part of the photo appear... sometimes distort colours. Asus P5QPRO, Intel 9550 and Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 1024 DDR3; last gpu driver and directX are installed. Different configuration of stratch disks were tested. Where am I wrong?

    Dear Bill,
thanks for your answer and your article. I tried with your NTSC 4:3 720x480 PAR 0.9 and, "magically", no more problem!!! I used the script pocedure in Photoshop CS4 to resize my images. Now, before starting my workflow and hoping not to overuse your patience, I would like to indicate you my equipment and my target: I use a Canon Eos 7D (generally for still images, 90% are vertical, and just some videos) and I use Premiere Pro CS4 to burn a dvd (normal, 4.7 Gb or double side, more than 8 Gb) with a 16.9 lcd tv (I'm Italian); my camera save as .jpg and .raw (but why use heavy .raw files if I've to redute to 720x480?!??).
So, according to your "everyone wants the highest quality that they can obtain when doing theri videos..." and "your video project may vary, so you will need to plug in the dimensions for YOUR video project in that case", I've a question: which is the best for me?
    And then:
1 - Premiere Pro CS4 havn't a batch or a script procedure for still image like PS (only for videos)!?!
2 - Premiere does'nt allow you to import images like 4.181 Kb (a too large dimension file error appears)!
3 - In the timeline of Premiere, after you dragged images, you can select them and right click to perform "resize to frame size": it seems to run good without problem, but what appen to the photo? Which is it's pixel?
4 - In the general preferences of Premiere you can to optimize rendering for "memory" or not: which is the best for you?
5 - I attached file with a screen of something strange in Premiere: dragging an image (the first of the project) in the timeline, the timeline appears distort (you can see the part in the yellow square): then, when I render the project and play in the monitor program, it becames normal.
    Thanks!

Having a problem with program hanging randomly on certain commands from Win-7 Pro Client to SB Server Both 64-Bit
Five other slower XP-Pro 32 Bit systems though they are older and slower systems do not seem to hang as readily if at all.
It has been very frustrating as the Client-System, SB-Server and Program should work w/o any hitches, but this seems to work fine @ times and then hang randomly.

You can try this, as I have had similar problems with another MS Access .MDB file and slow access before. This fixed my problem for me. On the slow computer, make sure the program is set to see the .mdb file via UNC path, not a mapped drive letter. ex.
    USE:  \\yourserver\shared\dental\file.mdb
    DO NOT: S:\\shared\dental\file.mdb
    hope this helps

I have ipad 2 and facing problem with programs it's swtching off while working and turn to home page. Am using ios 5

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

There's a good chance that this is a known issue.  We'll have a Flash Player 18 beta later this week that should resolve this at http://www.adobe.com/go/flashplayerbeta/

  • Potential problem with my monitor, please help.

    Hello
I recently upgraded my OSX to Mavericks and I've been having problems with my monitor, I've attached a screenshot of what is happening because I didn't know how to explain it and I'm unsure if its the OSX upgrade causing the issue or not, however I'm really worried about my monitor on my macbook pro.
The model I have is the 15" mid 2010 2.4Ghz Intel core i5 with 4GB RAM.

Still having this issue with my macbook pro monitor... There was no updates available and I followed every other possible solution, sometimes my monotor looks perfect like there was never any problem and other times my entire screen is just covered with this stuff you've seen in the above image.
I really have no idea what the exact issue is and how to solve it.
This macbook was given to me for university by the government as I have a form of dyslexia and because I've just finished my degree the insurance has ended... is there anyway I can still buy applecare insurance for my machine?! I got this MBP in 2010 so I've had it for three years now.
I'm just worried that one day I'll turn on my machine and the monitor won't work whatsoever.. and I thought apple was suppossed to be good and last a long time.
Hope somebody can help me further.
    Thanks.

  • Annoying problem with LCD monitor and noise!!

I have MSI 6330 with 1.2 GHz Athlon (it has a built-in sound card), 384 RAM memory.
I just bought a new Cornea 17" LCD monitor with built in speakers.
When I connect the speakers to the sound card, there is an annoying static-like noise coming from the speakers, like an electric transformation sometimes causes. However, this sound is not "broadcasted" to the speakers, because even if I mute the speakers, the noise is still there, as long as there is a picture on the screen. When the monitor is turned off or shows black screen (such as during start up, or when in power-save mode) the noise disappear. The only way to eliminate this noise is buy reducing (almost to zero) the speakers volume, but then you can cannot hear anything at all, not even sound.
I got a new sound card (I thought it was the sound card problem) - same thing. I connected the monitor to a different computer and the problem is gone, which means - it is something with the computer, mobo, different device....something, I don't know what.
Any one have an idea what this could be?
    Thank you.

    Hi!
It could be that you have some problem with the monitor.
I have - so far - not encountered a monitor with built in speakers which gave acceptable sound anyway, the easiest solution might be that you will not use the speakers in the monitor (even the cheapest stand alone speakers will most likely produce better sound quality).

  • PS CS4 problems with OpenGL drawing enabled

I've just upgraded from PS CS3 to PS CS4 (default 32 and 64 versions) and I'm having problems with seeing image files above a certain size (even moderate size) with OpenGL Drawing enabled. Disabling OpenGL Drawing results in very slow image display (very easy to see the blocks being drawn one at a time), much slower than with PS CS3.
I'm running Vista 64 with latest updates. I'm trying to get PS CS4 32 running properly first, but PS CS4 64 seems to be having similar problems.
GeForce 9600 GT video card with latest driver 178.24 (updated yesterday and rebooted many times since then). That card is in Adobe's list of tested cards.
Main monitor (where I display Photoshop images) selected as primary in the driver dialog.
    I put palettes/panes on my 2nd monitor.
I use Ultramon for 2nd monitor taskbar functionality. Turning Ultramon off doesn't seem to help, although I may need to disable Ultramon from launching on reboot.
No plugins installed yet in PS CS4 (32), as per Adobe kb advice.
4GB of RAM with Memory Usage set within Photoshop's Ideal Range.
For testing, I've been opening a few different size (px and bytes) RGB image files in Photoshop by dragging them from an Explorer window into the Photoshop window, then clickin in the Photoshop window to make Photoshop active and show its palettes.
First with OpenGL Drawing enabled in Performance, default Advanced Settings.
    JPEG, 3600 x 2600 px, 4.5MB
    - opens and displays ok (short delay before palettes appear)
    - zooms and rotates smoothly
    TIFF, 2 layers, 800 x 600 px, 16 bits, 2.5MB
    - opens and displays ok (short delay before palettes appear)
    - zooms and rotates smoothly
    TIFF, 1 layer, 3600 x 2600 px, 16 bits, 54MB
    - doesn't open properly, shows checkerboard instead of image, with checkerboard in navigator and layer icon in layers pane
    - histogram is fine
    - zooming and rotation are not smooth (jumps to new position/size)
    - duplicate layer caused PS CS4 to stop working, with a close program dialog
    - open PS CS4 32 again, no OpenGL message today, and OpenGL Drawing is still enabled (although I got the OpenGL Drawing message more than once yesterday)
    TIFF, several layers, 3600 x 2600 px, 16 bits, 306 MB
    - doesn't open properly, shows checkerboard instead of main image
    - icons in layers pane look fine, same as navigator image
    - checkerboard zooms and rotates smoothly
    - duplicate layer is still checkerboard, back one history state stopped working / close program dialog
    - started PS again, opened 1 layer TIFF, closed and tried to open multi layer TIFF again, but stopped working / close program dialog again
I then tried the same images with OpenGL Drawing disabled in Performance.
    3600 x 2600 px JPEG
    - ok, but slow, blocky redraw
    2 layer 800 x 600 px TIFF
    - ok, but slight delay in redraw (smallest of all the files, both in px and bytes)
    1 layer 3600 x 2600 px TIFF
    - opened ok, but slow, blocky redraw
    multi layer 3600 x 2600 px TIFF
    - opened ok, but slow, blocky redraw
From what I've read in various Adobe kb notes, it sounds like there's some kind of conflict with my video driver, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I even tried the registry plugin from the Adobe kb to disallow OpenGL Windows, but that didn't seem to make any difference. It didn't even stop me being able to select and use OpenGL Drawing in PS CS4.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm tearing my hair out here and I'm feeling a bit like I've blown my money on the upgrade so far.

I had another look at PS CS4 64 and those smaller (by file size) images that I can see with OpenGL Drawing on rotate and resize in a jumpy way, not smoothly like in PS CS4 32.
The multi layer TIFF that showed the images in at least the layers pane and navigator when using PS CS4 32 only shows the checkerboard in the layers pane and navigator in PS CS4 64.
Either way, neither version is anywhere near working properly.
Oh yeah, and I made a typo on the RAM. It's 6GB and not 4GB, not that I think that would make any difference.

  • [SOLVED]Asus UX32VD, problems with ACPI and Intel video driver

    1. The bigger problem seems to be Intel video driver:
When xf86-video-intel is installed, screen stays black after booting. By adding "nomodeset" to grub doesn't help. If I don't start gdm while booting, I can boot to command line with "nomodeset".  From command line I tried "startx", but X doesn't start, probably because "nomodeset" has disabled KMS and I've understood that Intel driver needs KMS for GNOME.
When xf86-video-vesa is installed instead of intel driver, screen is still black. By adding "nomodeset" to grub, I can see only mouse at gdm. If rebooting computer without gdm, I can start gnome from command line with startx and it works nice.
In both setups I can connect to laptop with ssh when screen is black. With ssh I checked screen brightness, but it was maximum.
    Intel driver version: xf86-video-intel 2.20.1-3
    2. The problem with ACPI is found from dmesg, I don't think this effects to graphics problem, because with vesa driver and "acpi=off" set to grub I can start Gnome with startx. I don't even know if it effects at all on my system, dmesg shows error which effects to displayport( intel_dp_i2c_aux_ch error) these maybe related to each others:

There is log files while booting with Intel driver and gdm set to start at boot in rc.conf, the screen is black, but got logs with ssh:

  • CS4 Problem with Acrobatinfo.exe

I'm having a really obnoxious problem with CS4 (as far as I can tell, every part of it, tested with InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator and Photoshop).
Every time I open an Adobe application and every 30 second to 3 minutes thereafter, my system hangs for a few seconds, with stuttering screen updates and then the whole screen flickers with a greenish tinge and then goes back to normal.
I've managed to track down the problem to the process Acrobatinfo.exe. Once I started watching the tack manager, I noticed that, without fail, each hang and flicker was preceeded by about 15 seconds of Acrobatinfo.exe starting, sitting around and then peaking at 50% CPU (all of one core/processor I imagine). Shortly after that, the process closes and everything is good again for another few minutes.
System is Windows XP, SP3. 2GB of RAM (and this happens even if nothign else is running). All windows and video card drivers are completely up to date.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas on how to solve it?
    Thanks
    Tom

After over 10 hours of pain, I've finally solved this problem. It was the Adobe Improvement Program.
I discovered this after noticing that none of the other accounts on this computer had the problem I was having, so after hours of painfully rebuilding my profile from scratch and testing as I went, Acrobat asked if I'd like to join the program.
The second I signed up the same flickering and hangs started up again, and as soon as I said "no !@#$@#!$ thank you" it fixed the problem.
Apparently declining to join the program just on Acrobat set a global setting, as none of the other CS4 apps exhibited any slowdowns after that.
I am livid at the time I wasted tracking down this ridiculous bug, and hopefully this provides some help to others who experience similar problems.

  • Premiere CS4 problems with Snow Leopard 10.6.7

I know that this is draging the depths of history but we have eight MackBook Pros with Snow Leopard (no roll back possible) and various CS4 progeams on in the college at which I teach.  We have a problem with Premiere in that clips will not play either in the preview, timeline or program areas rendering the whole program useless.  I don't think this is a problem that unknown; has anyone found a solution othere than installing 5.5 of course?

That is not good... PPro requires FULL access to the system to work properly... it just is not designed to be run on a limited use account
Also (Mac may be different???) to use some of the functions in Encore in the Win7 world, you not only have to be running the program from an Administrator account, you actually have to right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator from the list of options
Welcome to the wonderful world of computer security settings that get in the way of doing work
To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option
