PPro CS4 "unknown recorder error"

Premiere Pro CS4 and Premiere Elements 7.0 are both having the same problem on this machine.  During the digitizing process (F5 - Capture window) it will randomly stop digitizing and a window titled Recorder Error pops up with the unhelpful message "Unknown recorder error." and only an "OK" button.
Here's the machine details:

What other info would a trouble-shooter want to know?
This issue is consistent for mulitple users (this machine has multiple users with unique log-ins and user profiles in Windows).
It's worked fine until a couple of months ago.  An identical machine is runing Production Suite CS4 just fine.  That machine has only one primary user (me).  The other gets used by a half a dozen people, but the admin. functions are all locked by our IT department.  Can anyone provide links to trusted trouble-shooting instructions or give me some idea of what the problem might be?
Any assistance or insight would be greatly appreciated.

We hauled three of our systems to the Mirage in Las Vegas last week where we had to do a live show record to disk and create a bunch of DVD's for
the event attendees. We ran component from the staging company's equipment into the back of two DV Cam decks and from there we ran firewire cables into our 2 computers.  We were getting the dreaded "unknown record error" on both systems at first.  On both systems, I "Ran" msconfig and disabled all unnecessary startup items.  One of the systems never had an "unknown record error" after that. The other system continued to have the error approx 3-5 times during a 3 hour capture. OnLocation crashed when we hit the record button so we captured everything through Premiere CS4. I think the problem may have been the drive we were capturing to. We were bad.  Harm can probably guess what we did.
BTW, on the last day before my flight home, I netted a whopping $6 at a craps table.  One of the young ladies I work with won $1100 placing daring but foolish bets.  I watched a guy, not with our party lose over $6000 in a matter of minutes. I asked one of the guys working at the table what was the most he ever saw someone win at the craps table. he said 1.4 million.

  • Unknown recorder error CS6 premiere pro

I know work with CS6 for over 7 months. Always smoothly till this week. I wanted to capture a film via tape (sony HVR-V1E), my system diretly gave the following message: unknown recorder error. I klicked "okay" and gladly, I thought,  it started to capture the whole tape. It looked great on my canvas.
I have edit the film but when I look at the final film on HD TV screen, I see a lot of noise, the footages are in bad shape. Cant sent that to my customer.
Also Premiere Pro crashed a couple of times while editting. It never did that before/
Some extra information. Maybe it has nothing to do with the above mentioned problem but still I want to write it down, one never knows. This is the only thing that is changed on my system:
Working on an iMac (with SSD), Quicktime needed an extra mpeg2 component for footages from a camcorder. Have replace the quicktime with a backup. Does that cost the problem?
I am on Lion Mountain. Have an SSD. The Suite is on the SSD, the footages on another internal drive.
What I have done already to solve this:
    - checked google and checked this forum and checked, read and searched for hrs.
    - checked if there were faillures on my SSD or the other HD drive (HD2, where I keep my footages)
    - Updated my suite
    - project sequence is HD 1440x1080
    - Checked the footages if they were HD, and they were. (I am in Europe, so in PAL, 25 frames_
    File Path: /Volumes/Macintosh HD 2/Video/project/xxxx.mpeg

    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,3333
    - firewire is 800 (from camera connected to imac with an adapter from FW400 to FW 800, was never a problem).
    - Have checked the above mentioned values with earlier projects and they are the same values. Earlier projects are very clear and really HD, nice to watch.
    - loaded the files into iMovie and also into FCP 7. output was the same problem
    - exported the final film to H.264
    - Exported the final film via Media Encoder
    - HD (both) have >125 gig space not used.
    - Put the footages on the SSD, thats where PPR is installed
    - cleaned the media caches
    - checked it on our HD smart TV and the output of the tape is fine, sharp.
What can I try more. Please your help, the deadline is friday.. so I have one day to solve this problem/
    Thanks in advance.

INEF1- Have you got an answer to this-Premiere pro cs 6 have started with me:
It comes up with Blackmagic design intensity shuttle usb 3.0 and with the direct firewire into the pc.
    I have:
    -Installed latest updates
    - change the firewire
-Taking out the firewire card and re inserted it
    -reset bios
-Tried capturing through the live editing desk DATAVIDEO SE-500-that captured for about 39minutes but then same problem.

  • Unknown recorder error

I have been using elements 3.0 for some time. I installed 9.0 and have been getting an unknown recorder error on DV capture. I decided to uninstall it, and went back to 3.0 and now have this problem on this program. Any Ideas? XP PRO SVC PK 3, Pentium D 2.8G, 1 GB Ram, 7200 RPM Sata Raid 0.
    Firewire, sony mini DV camera.

Sounds like you may be out of contiguous hard drive space.
How much free, freshly defragmented space is on your C drive? You'll need at least 20-30 gigs -- and it should be free of tmp files and spyware. (The regimen I recommend in the FAQs and in my books will show you how to do that. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390602?tstart=30 )

    What should be the problem?

There could be a few reasons, a common one is bad DVDs or a burner going bad.

Trying to open PPro CS4.  Won't run & I get "Error: 148:3".  This happened at the same time I had to reauthorize WinXP  (can't figure out why I had to do that).  Yes, it's an older system, but it does exactly what we want.  Upgrading would not be cost effective for what we are now doing.  I need to get this running ASAP.  Or find a quality but inexpensive way to capture analog video to AVI without sync problems.  Thank you all!

I have been trying to burn a home movie using iDVD. I transferred the media successfully to my computer, followed all the steps, and was finally ready to burn the DVD. Using the same media I've used for years (Verbatim 4x InkJet printable) and all of a sudden can't burn from the internal drive. I do have an external burner (7 disc standalone replicator with USB/FireWire 400) and hooked that up and burned to a disc from the same spindle with no problem, and then made a 3x replicate with the same media. So it's looking like my MacBook Pro's drive is failing?

  • PPro CS4 won't play back

Suddenly video in Premiere Pro CS 4.0.0 for Mac won't play back from source window, program window, or timeline, except for an occasional playback of < 1 second. Scarily this was described by a bunch of users in a thread started two years ago. Only one solution was offered there, which didn't apply to my Mac.
I was involved in another thread on a related subject in this forum once before but that setup seemed connected to the use of a Dazzle Bridge for capturing. There's no such complication now...it's just not playing any video more than a few frames.
An editor who can't playback any video is in trouble, and after paying as much as I did for this program and a Mac Pro, it is disheartening. Any ideas out there?

I appreciate everyone's help but I'm afraid the situation has gone from bad to worse, since Premiere suddenly disappeared.
Yesterday, following one bit of forum advice, I tried using a separate user account labeled Premiere Pro and the program did play the files--though it wouldn't let me save the project file where it resided. Now, however, the program is nowhere to be found. I have the original installation disk but I have heard of problems arising from reinstallations.
To answer some other questions, I did try to download the latest update for PPro CS4. I am using PPro for Mac on a Mac Pro with a 10.5.8 OS. I can't say for certain exactly which version I "have" of PPro CS 4 since the update because the program has disappeared and is not turning up in the Finder anywhere, nor can I recall the exact wording of the error message saying I couldn't save my project as edited under the alternate user. The program and system worked fairly problem free for almost four years before the last few days. I use a variety of source footage, including .avi, .mov, .flv, .mp3, .wav.
One Snow Leopard user has recommended using a Root User account which doesn't seem to apply here. For example, he referred to a "Network Account  User" option that was supposed to appear in Accounts/Login Options but doesn't on my Leopard. Also, as per another user at Trafford College, I revised permissions to select Everyone...however since the program isn't appearing on my computer, there's no telling if that worked.
Community help is greatly appreciated--especially in light of one forum report of someone who was on the phone with Adobe for hours with this kind of problem but without getting it solved.

  • (PPro CS4/Windows) AVCHD to DVCPRO HD Converter

I just recently won a Sony HDR-PJ270, which shoots AVCHD 1080 60i (30 frames per second, 60 fields)/60p (60 progressive frames per minute --- twice the frame rate of NTSC).  The camera also records in MP4 --- but from what I can figure out it only does that if you are in "Dual-Mode", where it records the AVCHD as your "Good" footage, and then the MP4 is recorded for uploading to the internet.
Anyway I was testing some footage in PPro CS4, and the AVCHD was really causing my system to just slow down --- way---way---way down.  I've downloaded the Koyote Free HD Video converter, and I really was not impressed with the conversion quality (of course I'm not too impressed with the video quality when playing right from the camera to my TV via HDMI---but I think that has to do with AVCHD's compression and color space of 4:2:0---on smaller lines, such as pinstriping on a car, I was finding the color moving around just like I used to find with S-VHS and narrow lines) whether it is DVD for clients or I also volunteer at a local cable station and sometimes I do news stories for them and they still broadcast at 480i, so while this camera will not be used for my main camera, I may use it for wide angle shots (i.e. at a concert set it up on wide at the back of the auditorium).  So is there a converter out there that will convert the AVCHD to DVCPRO HD or even DVCPRO50 (still keep the AVCHD files for future use) so that I can edit the video without draining my system's resources?

I did play with the camera and TV settings, but nothing changed.  Even just playing the file back with WMP it has the issue.  As for 4:2:0 I never found it offered good color, even at SD levels---I prefer, and find, the formats that deal with 4:1:1 or 4:2:2 or. 4:4:4 color spaces due to the better color, due to less crosstalk.

  • PPro CS4 update and the Bangladesh connection

I think that I may have come upon a clue as to why this waaaay-premature CS4 release is working so poorly. So, I purchased Audition 3.0 because Soundbooth is so crippled (can't normalize to a specific level, can't hard limit to a specific level, etc.). I saw in the PPro CS4 help that if I did "Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition"... yeah that works. I had audition 2.0, but the prompt in PP CS4 wasn't there, I thought that maybe I needed ver 3.0, so I plunked down another $99.00, downloaded, installed. Nothing. Adobe said that if I downloaded PPro CS4 4.0.1 update, it would work. Opened the app, Help > Updates... The Adobe updater launched and started the process. and every time the updater blew up (all 11 times,) the error message read, "Updater did not Worked". I swear to God. Perhaps had Adobe hired programmers from somewhere other than third-world countries for their much vaunted release of CS4, they a - would have gotten a better product, and b - the error messages, being written by programmers whose first language is English, would be grammatically and contextually correct. Just a thought.

    Standard troubleshooting is:
    - Reset (hold sleep/wake & home button until the Apple logo appears)
    - Restore (connect to iTunes and restore)
If this doesn't correct the issue, check with your carrier about obtaining a new SIM card.
If you still have problems at that point, make an appointment with whoever covers warranty service in Norway.

  • PPRO CS4 doesn't work?

I got PPro CS4 (french edition) by the adobe store. Download several times. Double click. A blank window opens with the title (Adobe premiere. this software doesn't answer). Sometimes, it carshes. Sometimes, it works. I put some clip on the timeline but I can't export on a tape or through media encoder. On the tape, there is nothing. Encore answers: "can't find the files". But I can see the film on the monitors. After that, PPro CS4 was unable to find the project.
Nothing has been moved and to make sure a new download and a new clean installation have been made.
make a phone call to adobe and I'm waiting for ...
I ask also to downgrade to PPro I bought to the adobe store in 2003. But this is no more available!

    Hello,
    Thanks Robert for the link.
There are one or two problems:
    1)PPros CS4 crashed when launched
2)A problem with media encoder (maybe 2 comes from 1)
The second problem looks (at least partially or it's a variant) like the problem described by Ruby45 in your forum and solved(?) by Johan973. (error messages are similar).
    Some comments:
    1) I have also photoshopCS (zero) and adobe web premium cs3 suite. Recently due to conflict between extension manager cs3 and cs4 i got a hard time to move the pvii extension from dw8 to dwcs3.
    2) On the folder .../AppData/Roaming/Adobe/ i have some folders called PremierePro (includig the folder 4.0) and Premiere Pro (including 4.0, 1.5 and 1.0) and i never did a change.
    3)I didn't find in the folder programme/adobe/..../premiere any PProCS4.exe
At this time I csan't afford any issue with dreamwaver/fireworks cs3 or any interruption of service.
    Question:
    1) any conflict known between CS3 and CS4? solution?
2)how to perform a very clean installation of PPro CS4 without any interference with the web suite cs33? (I already download and install ppro cs4 several times).

  • AI into ppro cs4

    Hello all,
I have an issue that it seems no one has discussed.. at least I can't find anything on the wide web or here about it.
I'm trying to import .AI files into Premiere, one of the features they like to boast for vector rasterization, alpha, etc etc. (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS74FBAC3A-F651-4f98-A58E-8576504C47CDa.html)
It's not working in Premiere Pro CS4.  I go to import (drag drop, or menu-->import) my .ai file, which is a very small 350 pixel wide logo, and I get:
    File Import Failure
    /path/path/pathblahblah
    Error Message
File video dimension (width/height) too large.
It works fine in CS3.  I seem to remember using it in CS3 and CS4 before without problems.  In CS3, I drag in, no errors, I use on timeline, looks great zero issues.
I've tried making a new fresh project, even at different formats (though this project is standard widescreen).  Tried messing with different things in Illustrator, even making a new project and using it's "NSTC Video" project presents.  The AI it makes still says it's too large in CS4 (but works in cs3).
On a second note, I tried to reproduce the error while typing this.
It imports, but the imported file's preview is just a bunch of tearing.  Here are some stills (btw I experimented b/c of the error and made a 150pixel wide AI file):
    www.multimediawise.com/TEMP/Screen shot 2009-11-17 at 8.16.19 PM.png
    www.multimediawise.com/TEMP/Screen shot 2009-11-17 at 8.16.10 PM.png

    www.multimediawise.com/TEMP/Screen shot 2009-11-17 at 8.22.04 PM.png     (cs3)
It does this randomly instead of giving me the too large size  error, I double checked this.
If I timeline and start playing with it, it'll eventually freeze Premiere and close out.
    Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?
You know, I've started several projects in CS4 with all the best hopes and intentions, and every time I wind up just reverting down to CS3 to actually get the thing out the door.  I know this particular problem is work aroundable, but hey.. it worked in cs3?  We're devolving.  And where is .pdf support already? Really?
I hate that FCS has better integration with adobe's imaging files, layers, blending modes etc, then Adobe itself's video suite.  I don't like FC.  I'm trying, here.
    Tyler

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
Like I said, I know there are work arounds to this particular problem, which works in ppro CS3 and doesn't in ppro CS4
One option is rasterizing it out in photoshop, as Hunt has mentioned.  Why I like it vector is so that I can animate and play with the file, perhaps bringing it on screen at a huge scale percentage so that the "camera" "moves away" from the object.  This means in photoshop, when I open the .AI, in the rastorization dialogue that it brings up automatically, I'd like a huge DPI so that it rasterizes a very large version of the vector AI, that I can shrink as needed once inside Premiere.
Another option is using Adobe Dynamic Link and importing the .AI there, in After Effects.  After Effects loves layered vector files.  Then I can switch back and forth between the two programs in real time to get the desired effect.  This is probably the more "correct" solution, or more, least prone to problems, as it's AE doing things it's built for, sort of.
I just thought I'd post to make the bug aware to others, and possibly get a solution if there was one.  A simple use (rather than all the animation I'm describing) would be to drop a watermark logo into Premiere that you recieved from graphics as an Illustrator file.  I think this was the intent for the support of the ai files.
Stan, yeah, I've played with different artboard, dimension, and crop mark settings.  I gave up and deducted that being the issue beings it's imports right in on CS3.
Both of the above methods have worked for me in both CS versions.
    Cheerio,
    Tyler

  • Cannot save for web - unknown system error Photoshop CS5

I've attached the error I recieve here: http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/5624/screenshot20101027at122.png

Also, my Photoshop CS4 stil works properly. I've been searching for solutions but nothing has come up in regards to this particular error.
I'm running the CS5 Extended edition suite, on 10.6.4 if this helps.

I cannot hear audio in a video I am editing in Premiere Pro CS4 (Win 7 pc). Problem began after I tried to record my voiceover (wav file) using PPro CS4. I saved videos from a digital camera, converted to QuickTime format, imported and was able to listen to both the audio that was originally part of the video and three voiceover files that I previously recorded using different software (I don't remember what). Now I cannot hear audio of any files, wav, wma, etc, using PPro CS4, Windows Media Player, or other software. Any suggestions of what I should do to restore audio to my system?

    Bill:
Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately, this is a self-inflicted wound. It turns out I caused the problem by plugging my microphone into the headphone jack. After checking to confirm that my sound card driver is up to date, I glanced at the jack, placed the mike in the proper input port, and voila, I've got sound. I'm back editing my video in CS4. Based on this escapade, I'm sure I will need your advice again soon.
