PPro CS5 Playback through Intensity Pro HDMI Out?

I'm a long time FCP user and have been using the Intensity Pro card to provide HDMI for video monitoring.
Can I do this with Premiere Pro CS5?
I've updated the Intensity Pro drivers to the latest and selected Blackmagic Player in the PPro preferences, but can't find how to turn on output to the Intensity Pro HDMI output.
Any ideas?

Thanks!   Finally got it to work, but only by selecting a 50i sequence and copying all the footage across.   There doesn't appear to be any 25p sequences at 1920x1080, they are all 1440x1080 !   Arrgghh!
Need to e-mail Blackmagic and moan a little I think
Thanks for the help!  Much appreciated.

  • What is the BEST cable connection from Canopus ADVC 300 to Black Magic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card?

I must connect an ADVC 300 to a Black Magic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card.   For best quality, which cable should I use?
On the ADVC 300 there are outputs of firewire, S-VHS and RCA.
On BMPro it's a little confusing. On the breakout cable there are connectors that say:
    -5 B-Y OUT
    -4 Y OUT
    -3-R-Y OUT
    -7-R-Y IN
    -8-Y IN
    -9 B-Y IN
    -15 AUDIO IN RIGHT
    -10 AES/EBU OUT
    -12 AUDIO LEFT OUT
    -14 AUDIO LEFT OUT
    -13 AUDIO RIGHT OUT
With the BMPro, there is also a separate, shorter cable.  On one end it looks like S-VHS and on the other there are two connectors, one black and one blue.
On the actual BMPro Express card strip instead of using the breakout cable, there is HDMI IN (and HDMI OUT).
How should I connect this?  Is there an adapter cable of FIREWIRE TO HDMI?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Well, when I researched how best to digitize VHS (into Final Cut Pro 7), I learned two of the best devices to use are BMPro and Canopus ADVC 300.  I’m using the ADVC 300 for the built-in time base corrector.  I definitely want to use that to stabilize the video.  I also read how well BMPro improves image quality.  So, I thought to use the two together must produce outstanding quality (well, as good as VHS can be).
Perhaps I got confused into thinking I can use both.  But the BMPro appears to have an S-VHS adapter.
I guess I’m wondering what is better quality:
Run the firewire from the Canopus ADVC 300 converter directly into the firewire port on the Mac Pro
Or, run an S-VHS cable from the Canopus ADVC 300 into the BMPro Capture card
(I should mention that I have purchased all these items and already have the BMPro Card installed so at this point it’s not a cost issue, but rather an issue of simply which works best?)

  • Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card

Hey I work with Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 on a Mac Pro OS x 10.5.7, and we are looking into getting a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card. I'm just looking for assurances that these cards do work with my version of final cut pro, and any tips or tricks to installing and working with them.
    Thanks,
    Tim McDonald

I have the Intensity, didn't need the pro. The card works, though sometimes flakey. Audio always work fine when playing through HDMI to monitor (if monitor has speakers) but video is hit or miss. While it does work more often than not, there are times when I have to sit and keep switching the resolution output from 720/60, to 720/59.94 to 1080i/59.94 and so on just to get a picture. It's annoying and honestly sometimes it takes 5 minutes to get it work.
Blackmagic's awesome support told me the reason I was having problems was because I had a cheap HDMI cable. Apparently it works flawlessly all the time with Monster $150 HDMI cables. Bulls...
Make sure you have the newest Blackmagic software. I believe they are on version 3.2.

  • FINAL CUT PRO - HDMI OUT

im setting up an FCP system at home.
planning to use 2 displays for interface and a 42inch HDMI monitor for program.
is the APPLE TV box capable of displaying full res HD straight from Final Cut Pro and/or AFTER EFFECTS?
otherwise, i would just get the BLACKMAGIC INTENSITY PRO HDMI card.
any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Second the Thumbs up for the Intensity Pro!!
A great feature is the ability to capture from analogue sources too.
Never know when a client is going to turn up with a VHS tape!!

  • SpeedGrade 2014.2 will not send output via BlackMagic Intensity Pro HDMI to my external monitor.

I occasionally can get a few pixels near the left side of the monitor, and 2014.1 would display the lower half of the frame, but now, after the 2014.2 update, I can't even get that much. Premiere is monitoring perfectly. Any suggestions welcome!

I am having the same problem. I am on Speedgrade version 2014.1 currently and it won't output to either of the monitors I've tried. Both are connected via HDMI.
One is a 22' ASUS monitor, which reads "Out of Range" when I connect it to my blackmagic Intensity Pro output. From what I've read this has to do with the frame size coming out of SP being too large for the monitor.
Next I tried to output to a 50' HD TV. I don't get the "Out of Range" message on this one, instead the monitor is black with an occasional flicker when I hover over a clip or an option in Speedgrade. By flicker I mean the screen flashes a garbled purple mess for less than a second, then goes black again.
I'm running the Creative Cloud Suite on a Mid 2012 Mac Desktop with a 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor, 52GB of RAM, and ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. OSX version 10.8.5.
Been waiting for this capability for a while, any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Intensity Pro HDMI capture problems

I am unable to capture 1920 nor 1440 - 1080 thru the HDMI input of my Intensity Pro card. I'm connecting a Sony HD cam thru HDMI to the Intensity Pro in on the Mac, and FCP doesn't recognize the card. Using mini HDV tapes. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
I might be jumping all over the map on this, but the HDMI signal is 1920 not 1440, that is the one
idea for using this capture method. You have settings in the Audio/visual preferences that have
some control in capture. Also after you go into Log and Capture you have more settings to deal
with. I will attempt to post screen grabs to better illustrate.
I originally had trouble learning all these settings. In fact I was later able to make a custom
setting to capture ProRes (reg.) not ProRes HG.
if you can post your work method, step by step one or more of the fine masters on this site might
be more of a help than me.
    Tom
PS I could not attach the screen grabs, if anyone can tell me how this is done on this site, please do.

  • Creative ITRIGUE 3800 - less than 1 month, only playback through two red connectors out back

i have a Creative Itrigue 3800 system that i bought within 30 days. the only playback i get through these speakers are from the dual red outputs in back. yes that is correct, there are two red outputs going to one speaker. i cannot do a white and red hookup since the speaker connectors because of their mold will only fit on one manner in any case i am sure that only the two red connectors work, whether there should be two red's (and a set of 2 whites) per speaker i have no idea. what i do know is that i dont have the original boxes for the speakers and that they are less than month old. the receipt i do have. i'd love to know what i should do to fix this problem. i would love to hear from someone. i'd love to get these speakers to work somehow or take the corrective action. thanks
btw i dont get any playback ever from the dual whites. just the dual reds (one speaker & bass seems to work though the bass isn't that great quality though i'd love to just have the speakers functional)

How is it BBYs fault at all? All they are is a middle man. They didn't produce the faulty phone and trust that the vendors they partner with send them non faulty products.
Because BBY realizes there are defective products they offer a 30 day window where BBY will deal with the headache of dealing with the manufacturer instead of the customer. After that the customer deals with the manufacturer if there is a problem.
If the customer wants more peace of mind they offer extended warranties so you can deal with BBY only.
I truly am sorry that you got a defective phone and hope it is fixed or properly taken care of. I just don't see how you can link it to BBY as its not their responsibility.

  • What are the FINAL CUT STUDIO capture presets using a "Blackmagic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card"

A S-VHS cable and a/v cables are connected to the breakout box.
    What are the presets:
    1) Sequence Preset?
    2) Capture Preset?
    3) Device Control Preset?
    thanks

    1) Sequence Preset?
    2) Capture Preset?
    3) Device Control Preset?
Is this realted to your other question? Don't post more than once, please. GEt it right the first time and then wait. Patiently.
    1. Your sequence rpeset will be determined by the production's output taarget, it has nothing to do with the Balckmagic capture unless you alreday know what that will be. And you do, in fact, because VHS only comes in one way. When you bring your fist captured clip into a sequence, FCP7 will aks if you want to confrom the sequence to the clip's settings. Say yes. Done.
    2. Your capture is going to be regular ol' DV. There's no reason to try to use any other advanced codec for VHS. But you probalby hsould have a time base corrector or frame sync in the loop to help correct and stabilize ancient tapes. Your preset if NTSV DV
    3. There is not control for a VHJS deck. So une unctrolled device.

  • Can I use a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card in a Mac Pro 1.1?

I am looking for a video capture card. Cna I use this?

PCIe fine. But you need to use 8x probably to work properly.
It doesn't need EFI64 and PCIe 2.0 is backward compatible.

  • Blackmagic Intensity Pro using Premiere Pro CS5 Problems!

Blackmagic claims there are not alot of problems with the Intensity Pro and Premiere ProCS5. Well I am having my fair share.
Msvcr90.dll App Error (fixed this on my own doing Microsoft updates)
Decklinkapi64.dll App errors (crash) while editing from timeline
BMDPlayer.prm App errors (crash) while editing from timeline
Unable to "hold frame on in point" using a BM preset. Adobe presets work Beautifully!
and to top it off Poor performance when compared to using Adobe presets with my mediocre Nvidia 9600 GT.
My Intensity worked great with CS3. Is this card just getting outdated. Seems it was originally released with CS2 ?

Shooternz, Before I upgraded from CS3 to CS5, the BM intensity pro seemed to be an economical and popular solution for editing HD with a tapeless workflow and being able to output an accurate preview for color correction, etc... After upgrading to CS5 (I decided to skip 4 because all was well) it seems like i have jumped 10 years into the future.
I am very interested in alternate workflows now. Shooternz, I think I read on another post that you have a Quadro FX 3800. How does this work for you ?
Do you just output to a second monitor ? I to am keeping an open mind. I have been looking at possibly geting an Nvidia GTX 470, although not officially supported by adobe. I cant find a GTX 285 anywhere. All out of stock! discontinued card.
    Thanks, Erwin B

  • BlackMagic Intensity Pro for iMovie

I am interested if any one knows if the new Intensity Pro HDMI PCI card by Blackmagic can be used to capture video off my DVR so I can create DVD using iMovie and iDVD. I know the HDMI signal will probably have HDCP copywrite protection, but this card also supports analog Component video which comes out of my DVR. It is my understanding iMovie will need to have video in the DV format. In the product's manual it only talks about high end expensive video editing software like Apple Final Cut Pro, but I only need iMovie capabilities. The product does come with an application called Blackmagic Media Express but there is no documentation on it.
I do not want to go out and buy a $350 card and find out it does not work.

    Glenn,
I have posted this before in the PC Buying Guide (post #23 and later), but have a look at this diagram:
The problem is that once recorded to tape, the material is compressed to MPEG and there is no way to get the data back, that were lost during compression. The only thing you achieve is that you lose device control, lose all timecode information, lose all metadata like date and timestamp and exposure data and lose the capability of scene detection. There are no gains to compensate the losses.
Compare it to a glass of orange juice, that was made by heavily compressing oranges. How do you think you can reconstruct the original oranges that the juice came from? Were there 4 large oranges or 6 small ones or a mixture? Were they light colored or were they dark or a mixture of light and dark?
BlackMagic in their marketing may lead you to believe otherwise, but the truth is they can only guess at how many oranges were used, their size and color. It is nothing more than a guess.

  • HDMI out from Timeline

    Hi,
I am doing a job for an Art Gallery, in which I have to shoot, and do a quick edit (no effects), and output to a Full HD 1920x1080 TV.
I intend to buy a Panasonic AG-HMC70U Shoulder Mounted Camcorder, which stores AVCHD 1080/60i (NTSC) video in SD/SDHC Cards.
I intend to buy a Sony VAIO F VPCF127FX/B 16.4" Notebook Computer, with Windows 7 Premium 64 bit, processor 1.73GHz Intel Core i7-740QM, 6 GBs RAM, and nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 1GB Dedicated.
Will I be able to output directly from CS-5 Timeline to TV, through notebook's HDMI out?
    Thank you,
    Ronaldo

    Thanks a lot robodog2
I have a few questions bellow in red:
I would get 1 Terabyte drives instead...they are not expensive. You might need the extra room if you have to do some exports to files.  Get the fastest ones you can for editing...esata better than fw800...make sure you turn off indexing and format NTFS and assign specific drive letters to the externals...put tape on driive with the drive letter you gave it clearly marked. If you dont you will have a hard time swapping them and maintaining links with your project(s).
    Agree.
    dont partition any drives
    Agree.
when you say dvd you mean of course Blue Ray...for HD....  dvd is for SD....just dont forget when you look for disc burners.
Yes...Blue Ray, I keep saying DVD....
There's a program called neoscene by cineform that a lot of people use for avchd footage....you might want to look into having that just in case.
    I'll check into it.
Test the tv -- output real footage from timeline to the same HD Tv you plan to use at show ....output to make sure it likes interlaced footage.
Here is the catch, I'm in Brazil, and this work will happen in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and we arrive 1 day before....this is why i'm trying to prepare as much as possible, in theory, before hand....
You'll probably put OS and program on C drive
    Agree.
put pagefile on 2nd drive 1.5 x your ram with min and max size the SAME MAX SIZE so it never gets fragmented...do that first thing so the pagefile is near the center of disc.  I guess you said 2 internal and 3 external ? so you can put your scratchdisk on disc 2 also...and assets and any exports you need to do on the externals...
I will have 2 Sony VAIO F VPCF127FX/B 16.4" Notebook Computer, with Windows 7 Premium 64 bit, processor 1.73GHz Intel Core i7-740QM, 6 GBs RAM, and nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 1GB Dedicated.
    So, here you lost me...
1 - How do I - 1.5 x your ram with min and max size the SAME MAX SIZE so it never gets fragmented
2 - How do I do this pagefile to start at center of dics?
I will only have one internal disc, dedicated for OS.
Scratchdisk, assets and exports - I will have 3 external discs in total, one to edit, one for playing to, and the third one for copying....
plan on having an "emergency" helper that REALLY knows whats up with the computer and editing stuff in case you get stuck and have to focus on shooting and need help ...line that up beforehand.
    Agree.
go to the gallery and see if you can do anything to enhance the lighting or color correct lights, windows etc beforehand...
test everything .....so you dont have surprises that make you crazy on the day.
That will be impossible as we arrive 1 day before...I'm taking my lights, tripods, color gels...
    good luck  sounds like fun..
    Thanks a lot...
one more reference just in case you want to check it out...

  • Blackmagic Intensity Pro - Video playback doesnt work

Hi there, I am experiencing some weird issues with Premiere CC and the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card.
I mainly use the card to playback my edit to an HD monitor. This has worked quite well, but as of today it stopped working.
Last time it stopped working I opened a different project (one I knew the card have worked before) to check and it was working. I did nothing and opened the project the card wasnt working and to my surprise it just worked.
Today I am having a problem as I cant make any of the projects work w the card.
It feels it works at random. I would appreciate any help on this.
Working on a Mac Pro Quad Core INtel 3.2GHz
    Sequence is Blackmagic Uncompressed 23.97fps
    Preferences>Playback - set to Blackmagic
Problem started when I was flipping between headphones and external speaker (to cut my audio). I do not however send audio through the BM card. Always Line out or Headphones.
Thanks in advance for any info.
    Pedro

    hi,
ihave bought it and am using it with my quadcore g5 2.5 ..
for now i switched back to canopus because its much more stable and not
"touchy" when i jump around in the timeline...
but this may have a lot of other reasons ..
with finalcut its very nice ans stable, i think the drivers have been written
to be compatible with fcp rather than logic.
I wantd to have the picture for an HD Movie in Llogic but now i prfe to have
    stability,
    bets regards,
    andy

  • HDMI Hard Disk Recorder to Blackmagic Intensity Pro

I have a hard disk recorder (HDR) with an HDMI out. I am wondering if I can run that through a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card and pull ProRes 422 or DVCPro HD from it. (I know the card working in both formats) I'm wondering about the HDR interacting with the card.
Card looks great, we are hot to buy it, if this could work! Thanks for the help.
    Sean

It probably will not work. All HDMI output devices are to have HDCP support except Camcorders. The Intensity HDMI inputs do not support HDCP. Look in the literature of your HDR and look for HDCP. If it supports HDCP them you are out of luck.

  • Can I use the HDMI Out on my macbook pro retina for audio without connecting a video device?

While the MBP has TOSLINK output from the headphone jack, TOSLINK does not have the bandwidth to carry the high resolution audio from many blu-rays and DVD-Audio disks. I would like to hook my MBP to an audio-only HDMI sink so I can pipe the multichannel output to my surround speaker setup.
My concern is that the MBP will get "confused" and do one of the following things - both of which are "bad":
    1) It will decide that a video device is there, and put the desktop on the nonexistent HDMI display OR
    2) It will decide to send no signal at all (no video, no audio) because it sees no video device.
    Any thoughts on this?
In short - thinking of using something like this: http://www.ambery.com/2hddodtsdihd.html
with the HDMI out of the MBP and then piping its 6 discrete analog outputs to my old (but excellent for computer speakers) Logitech Z680 setup.
But I want any movie video to remain unperterbed on my Thunderbolt display. And if I am not watching a movie and am just listening to multichannel FLACs or something, then I'd like to run the media player normally and have the usual desktop on my MBP or Thunderbolt display.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks to all!!

Not from Apple, you can go to the grey market if you choose but it is most likely that the only MB that will work is the one you already have.

Maybe, if the Sonnet is properly Thunderbolt compatible it should.
