PPro CS6 Blurriness

I think my issue may or may not be related to this discussion:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4488446?tstart=0
I'm having some serious issues with output from PPro CS6. The screenshots below should illustrate the issue very well.
This first pic is using the Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) with hardware acceleration. This is with the video paused. This is how the video should look. Notice how sharp and clear the picture and text are:
This next pic is still using MPE hardware, but the video is now playing. Notice how the text gets soft and the picture gets very grainy:
Due to the title being on this sequence, even with MPE hardware enabled, I get a red line over the title. So this next pic is after I rendered the timeline (using ENTER key render only) with the video paused. The picture looks better, but still slightly soft - at least the horrible grain is gone. BUT, now the text is very blurry and there were artifacts introduced to the lower third around the text.
Next is the same same MPE hardware enabled, rendered sequence, but now it's playing - not much difference, but ever so slightly softer:
The next pic is with MPE software only, paused, unrendered. Everything is now softer, and the pic gets blurry and darker. Actually, everything gets a bit darker and for some reason, the drop shadow on the pic turns almost black:
Next is with MPE software only, playing, unrendered. Everything still dark, but now the pic is full of grain:
Next is with MPE software only, paused, and now rendered. Still dark, but grain is gone from picture. Text is now blurry with artifacts around it:
And last, with MPE software only, rendered and playing. No difference from the previous 'paused' state:
Obviously, something is broken in PPro CS6! This is really cramping my style. I'm also having a lot of trouble with crawling titles - they are stuttering and blurring when moving across the screen. This actually applies to any graphics moving across the screen, not just titles.
Anyway, I really hope Adobe fixes this soon...it would make my life much easier!

  • How can I get PPro CS6 timeline to correctly show clip stretched in AE?

I have a 2 second clip in my timeline in PPro CS6 that I want to stretch to roughly 18 seconds.  I did the following steps:
    1. right clicked on the clip in the timeline and chose Replace with AE composition
    2. when AE opened, I clicked on stretch in the composition and stretched it to 1000%
    3. I changed the composition settings to reflect the new duration of 18 seconds so I could view the entire clip in the timeline
    4. With the footage highlighted, I went to layer/frame blending and picked frame mix
    5. on the composition timeline, I toggled the frame blending on
    6. saved the AE composition
    7.  Back in PPro, the clip is now pink and shows that it's a linked AE composition, but the length of the clip has not changed and therefore only plays the 1st 2 seconds of the clip
In order to see the entire AE linked clip, I have to either click on the AE linked clip that shows in the project panel, down to the timeline or right click on the clip already in the timeline and choose speed/duration.  Unlock the link between duration & speed and change the duration to the length of the AE stretched clip, leaving the speed at 100%.
My question, how can I make the AE linked clip automatically show correctly in PPro?
Also a related question, since the composition is a linked compostion in AE, the frame blending box isn't available on the composition timeline so I have to go to Layer/Frame blending to turn frame blending on.  Is this correct?  If so, how can you set the quality to draft or best?  Also should I pick frame mix or pixel motion to get the smoothest frame blending?

Fuzzy and Ann are correct in my opinion. Premiere Pro thinks that the duration on the timeline is just the first part of a clip that has been given a rather long handle, so to speak.
Just drag it out as far as it goes. Premiere Pro will not let you drag it out farther than the end of the comp under these particular circumstances.
Why not do that automagically for you? Too dangerous. What would it do with anything on the sequence out to the right of the clip? Overwrite it or push it?
Now, I suppose that a good way to do that would be to alert you about the problem when you return to Premiere Pro and ask you how you want it handled, but that would take a Feature Request. And I am not sure what would need to happen if you had made a bunch of changes to other links other than that one before returning to Premiere Pro.
Before I suggest that you do that, I have to ask why you didn't  just use the Time Remapping feature of Premiere Pro do do the same job. That way Premiere Pro would have known what you wanted to do. I understand that Timewarp and Time Remapping both have different strong and weak points, I am just curious if you tested both and decided on using After Effects for a particular reason.

  • PPro CS6 Crashes on Exit in Windows 7 64bit

With any PPro project, when I click to exit the program, there's about a 1-2 second delay, the PPro window is dimmed and a few seconds later a dialog pops up stating that "PPro CS6 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Closing this dialog then closes PPro. I've uninstalled Production Premium, cleaned out the registry and re-installed it but it still occurs even with default settings.
Even with a new basic DV-NTSC project with nothing added to it yet, this happens. Open it, wait a few seconds, then close it.
I have the following additional info:
    PPro CS6 6.01
Widnows 7 64bit with all updates
nVidia (eVga) GTX-580 with latest drivers

I hope somebody has an idea about what to do because this is very annoying.
    Thanks,

Well, it appears that my workspace, that I've used over the past couple of years, was causing the problem. After changing workspaces and creating a new one (and unchecking Import workspace from projects), things are working properly again. I guess it somehow got corrupted. Wow, something so simple.

  • PPro cs6 - Audition cs6 - PPro, round trip problem

I'm having trouble completing the round trip. I got my audio tracks from PPro CS6 to Audition CS6 without problems, right by the manual. But I'm having trouble getting that audio work back  into PPro.
I'm working a mid-sized project (one hour class, two cameras, etc. headed for DVD). Got edit lock. Everything is done now except for cleaning up audio. After the audio I can send the whole lot to Encore for DVD making. But first, audio.
Took the entire sequence to Audition  via PPro's  "Edit...Edit in Adobe Audition...Sequence..."  path. This worked just fine. It pushed all the audio files to Audition, Audition opened up and gave me a "make an Audition project" dialog box, etc. Nearly 100 files came over to Audition, on the right tracks, in the right order. Very nice. Made my changes. So far so good.
What I've read in the manual says that all I have to do when I'm done is "File...Save" in Audition, then PPro will have and use the changes. Sorta like Dynamic Link, but different. So I did the the project save.
At this point, things deviated a little from the plan. I started up PPro, opened the project, and no sign of the Audition work. Can't find a file anywhere in the project panel that says Audition on it. The files on the timeline are still the dark green of the multi-camera edit, not the lighter green of an Audition file. When I've done this for individual clips, I've gotten back a file with a name like "*Audio Extracted_1.wav" that shows up with the same green as the Audition icon on my desktop.
So I thought, fine. Not as easy as I had hoped. I'll just have to import it manually. But PPro doesn't seem to have any idea how to deal with a *.sesx file, which is the project file from Audition.
Should I be exporting, say, a *.wav file from Audition (how?) and import that into PPro? And if I do, is there a good workflow to re-sync this audio with my video tracks?
I'm confused. Don't know what I did wrong. Don't know what do to fix it. Don't know how to avoid this in the future. So any help gratefully received.
    Bruce Watson

    OK, now I *am* confused.
Just did it again (a different DVD project however), as described in my original post. This time PPro stayed open for me. So I sent all the sequence audio files to Audition via the "Edit...Edit in Adobe Audition...Sequence..." comman, then did my editing in Audition, and saved it the Audition project. Go back to PPro, and... nothing. No sign of any file from Audition in the project panel. No sign on the time line. No sign of any Audition file anywhere in PPro that I can find.
What gives? What am I doing wrong?
What I did get was a folder at the same directory level as my PPro project file, a folder in it with the project_name I gave Auditon when it opened from the PPro  "Edit...Edit in Adobe Audition...Sequence..." command, and then two files for every clip in the project (a *.wav and a *.pkf), and finally two more files, a project_name.xml and a project_name.xml.sesx.
I suppose I can export a *.wav file to PPro manually. Worked before. But I'd like to learn the "correct" way, the way Adobe intends it to work.
Darned if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong though. Help???

  • Why Poor DVD quality Encore CS6 with Sony FS100 MTS files from PPro CS6

I am using PPro CS6 on a MAC Pro Quad zenon with Boot Camp. On PC side I was using PPro CS6 & Encore CS6 with MTS files from  Sony NX 5U with NO Problems.
I just started using a Sony FS100 recording 1080i (60) format MTS files. When I Dynamic Link to Encore, the quality of the image is very soft compare to image from previous
projects with MTS files from Sony NX 5U.When I open a previous NX5U project, it still displays and creates an excellant dvd.Need help in solving problem.

Thanks for the advice. I tryed your method with same results.
I then tried changing project quality settings with somewhat better results
    but not good enough results.
I looked at some of my previous dvds that used mts files from my Sony NX5U
and the quality was much better
that any results I am having using the Sony FS100 mts files. Even still
pictures do not look good now in Encore.
I then tried using Roxio Creator 10 Pro to make a dvd.
The results were excellant! Video files and stills are great.
I noticed that Encore CS6 is using the "Main Concept" codec to transcode.
Has something changed in the basic
settings with my Encore and can I reset my Encore to original defaults???
Any advice would be welcomed...Thanks again.

  • PPro CS6, error reading *.psd files

My old NLE laptop is dying, so I built a new desktop earlier this year and loaded Production Premium CS6 on it as my second copy. Laptop is retired now, more or less, and the desktop is all I use. This installation went on without a hitch, took my serial number, I logged into my Adobe account, etc. The install was perfectly smooth. I copied all the old project files over from the laptop, but them in the same places (same drive letter, same directory names) on the desktop, opened up a project to be sure it would I got everything in the right place, everything looked good, everything seemed to work. Then for reasons that are irrelevant to this, I was unable to actually use the software for months.
Anyway, thinks get back to normal, and I went to edit an older project on the desktop. When the project opened, I got the red screen (media offline) from where I had Photoshop illustrations (stills) in the timeline. All other files opened. All the video, all the music, etc. But none of the Photoshop files.
I opened up my stills folder in the Project panel, and it's showing all the files, but with question marks where the little Photoshop graphic used to be in front of the file name.
I thought this was no biggie, just had to relink PPro to those files. So I left click on the film icon, select Link Media from the drop down, and point it to the correct file. Up pops a box that says "The importer reported a generic error." Yuck. Must be a corrupted file.
So I bring up Photoshop CS6, open the file, and it opens just fine. No error, no problem, no corruption, looks fine. So I made a small change, took it back out, and saved the file, thinking that a re-write of the file might help. But... no. No help, same error.
Hmmm... Created a brand new file from a random photograph. Saved it in the same format (psd). Tried to import that file using the media importer, trying to see if a different pathway through the software will help. Nothing doing. When I try to import through the Media Browser panel, I get the same popup box, giving me the same error message, for this brand new file.
So... What's up with this new instance of PPro CS6 not being able to import *.psd files from it's companion app Photoshop CS6? I did this for years with that old laptop, never had a hickup, and every time I made a change in Photoshop, PPro picked up the change like magic. Which is why we use the Adobe software, yes? So I'm thinking it should work the same way on this new desktop.
Just to test my sanity, I fired up the old laptop, did the same thing (new file, import into PPro project) and it worked just fine. So I'm thinking it's not PPro, but something about my new installation on this new desktop. But everything else works just like it should (only way, way faster).
    New PC information:
    Win8.1 64bit
    Intel i7-4770K processor
    16GB memory
C: drive is an SSD, Samsung 840 EVO, 250GB
    D: and E: are WD 1TB SATA 6GB/S 7200rpm drives
So... what have I done wrong? And how do I correct it?

One final thing. And this is just freaky to me. I can use PPro to create a Photoshop file, via "File...New...Photoshop file". Put this file I called "test_v1" in the same directory as the other *.psd files that I can't import. It shows up in the explorer. When I click on it in explorer, it brings up Photoshop, just like it should. What I get is an empty file with the title and action safe zone guides.
I cancel out of Photoshop without changing or re-writing the file. I try to import this file that PPro just created. I get the same "generic error" that PPro can't read the file.
So... anyone got a clue? I can't be the only person in the history of Adobe that's gotten this error.

  • How to open PPro CC project in PPro CS6?

I have upgraded to CC on my home machine, but filmmakers that I work with have decided to continue using CS6. I have put together a rough cut of a recently shot film in my PPro CC program - how do my colleagues open this project in their PPro CS6 program so they can continue the work?
I'm assuming this is possible since Adobe is officially continuing support of both CS6 and CC versions of PPro.

It is a very valid assumption. Adobe has created a world in which their customers are heavily split between the CS6 version and the CC version of their products. This means that in order for continued seamless collaboration between project personel to occur, project files created in one version need to be readable and usable in the opposite version.
If this doesn't get fixed, then that means all CC subscribers who collaborate with CS6 users will be forced to also purchase and install CS6 versions of the same software, and to work on collaborative efforts entirely in the CS6 versions.
And if I, as a CC subscriber, am having to do all of my work in the CS6 versions of the products, then subscribing to the CC versions of the products is a waste of money for me.
Either Adobe fix this, or CC subscribers who collaborate with CS6 users such as myself will simply cancel the CC subscriptions and revert back to CS6.
Thank you for your thoughts on exporting to FCP XML - that isn't going to work for my needs.

  • STILL NO FLUENT AVCHD-WORKFLOW in PPro CS6??? COME ON, ADOBE!

I am very pleased with my CS6 Suite. I cannot tolerate the fact, that an issue like the AVCHD-workflow in PPro CS6 isn't patched until today. AVCHD is a very common Codec and a professional NLE-Software has to able to handle it! Transcoding from one Codec to antoher and back is a time killer! It leaves my work less profitable. So what is the status quo at the moment? Please be honest and do not tell me "We know about the issue, but don't have a timeline yet.."
    Thank you very much.

  • New GPU Quadro k5200 installed and having problem with my AE, PPro CS6  not using the GPUs cuda.

Hi guys, I recently bought a workstation from BOXX tech with a new GPU Quadro k5200 installed in it.
I am having problem with my AE, PPro CS6 using the GPUs cuda.
I went to Nvidia Settings and use the specific App to select it to use GPU n- Quadro k5200. But still not working.
    Please help

If you edited the Cudatextfile in the Adobe Premiere CS6 directory correctly then the acceleration should be enabled. The only way it it's not is if you have the wrong driver for that version of Adobe or did not edit the text file with the exact name of the card. You can use the GPUsniffer in that same Premiere directoy with the command prompt to see the name the GPU should be listed as. The Ray Tracer file in AE has to be edited with the same listing.

  • Windows PPro CS6 (evaluation version) crashes when opening (simple) projects

    Hi.
I'm encountering a problem in Windows 7 x64 with PPro CS6 (installed as part of the evaluation version of the Master Collection). It occurs both with the version I downloaded using the Adobe download helper tool, and the patched version (that is, after applying the bunch of updates of the master collection). I can reproduce it reliably:
    1) Open PPro, create a new project and a sequence (HDV).
    2) Add a MTS clip into the project, put it to the sequence.
    3) Save the project
    4) Close PPro, Restart it
    5) Open the project that was just saved
What happens is that the application simply crashes/becomes unresponsive. In the monitor window I see that yellow-ish image telling me that media files are being loaded. I can't say PPro is a very useful application when it does not support to open projects xD.
What can I do? I simply assume that this behavior is not a feature, so.... maybe the problem is with my system configuration? Note that I do not have QuickTime installed, and I don't intend to do so (I'm avoding anything remotely related to Apple).

Why would you put an AVCHD clip into an HDV sequence?
HDV is specific to video from a HiDef TAPE camera, not a file from a newer type of camera

  • PPro CS6: Effects used on Adjustment Layer not the same as direct on clip

    Hi,
I'm using the PPro CS6 Demo on a Core i7 with 12GB Ram, GTX 580 1,5GB on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Today i applied the gaussian blur filter to some clips to remove the moiré pattern in the downscaled videoclips - as I do it quite often with PPro CS5. It removed the pattern as it's always doing - fine.
Then I remembered the new Adjustment Layer function within CS6 and tried this in the same sequence, with the same clips and the same configured gaussian blur filter. The moiré pattern slightly improved, but the effect wasn't the same as before. It seems that applying this filter on a clip or on an Adjustment Layer isn't the same?
I didn't tested this with other filters, so I can't say if the gaussian blur is the only filter affected.
Anyone has a similiar experience or can explain this?
    Thanks!

There is a very common misstatement and misunderstanding of how adjustment layers work, which I'll repeat here: "Applying an effect to an adjustment layer applies the effect to all layers under the adjustment layer."
That's wrong in a subtle but important way.
What actually happens is that applying an effect to an adjustment layer applies the effect to the composited result from all of the layers under the adjustment layer.
This is an important distinction, because it puts the adjustment at a different place in the order of operations in the rendering pipeline.
Anyway, that's a long and perhaps overly theoretical way of saying that, yes, you may see some difference between applying an effect directly to a bunch of clips compared with applying the effect to an adjustment layer over that same bunch of clips.

  • Updating the Project Panel in PPro CS6 is horrendously slow! (But nothing else is affected)

Anytime I make a change to the project panel whether it's moving a clip to a folder, adding a description, or anything.... it freezes up for around 20 seconds before it does anything?! All other performance of PPro CS6 is fine - Timeline, Source and Program monitors, Effects window - none of these are slow, only in the project panel do I have an issue...
Does anyone know what may be causing this?
    Thanks all!

    I am updated to CS6.0.5
I have it in list view
I just tested it and it only seems to happen with this project
I have an NVidia GeForce 8800GT driver version 314.07
I haven't changed anything with my disk setup or my computer - I have 4 HDD's one is my system HDD, one has my Footage and Projects, one has all the preview/render files (Scratch disk), and the last one has archives of older Footage and projects
This problem affects everything in the project panel, no specific filetypes or anything.
There are quite a few clips in this project - over 400 clips - would that be causing this?
I am doing behind the scenes for a film and I keep adding to this project...
    Thanks guys!

  • PPro cs6 error timecode.cpp-1014

A PPro cs6 project I was nearly done with started giving me a popup window when opening the project:
I hit the continue button and it carries on as if nothing had happened. So.... what's it mean? What can/should I do about it?
For what it's worth, I just made the final release candidate disk for this project. Which makes me wonder.... I didn't get this until after I had dynamically linked this project to Encore cs6 to do the DVD thing. The proximity of the error to using Encore with this project makes me wonder.... and PPro and Encore did fight a lot about the chapter markers (I set them up in PPro and exported them to Encore, even learned how to do a manual reloading of the chapter markers in Encore "from the source" as it's called).
In any case, the disk looks perfect; I couldn't find anything wrong with it at all. Client is going to watch it end-to-end also, and exercise the menus too. Then it's off to the duplicator. But I'd like to fix this weirdness before I archive the project. I don't want it to bite me in the tail when I have to open this project back up to make a new trailer or teaser, or if the client decides to make a blu-ray edition.

  • New Pond5 plugin for PPro CS6

Just got an e-mail from Pond5 about a beta plugin for PPro CS6. Curious what everyone thinks about it:
    http://www.pond5.com/adobe
This is definitely something I was hoping to see one day (had actually mentioned it in a recent survey).

    First off....Anyone install this yet?
This is kind of funny....I just saw this for the first time on Pond5's website and thought it was something that was new, due to NAB15.....after a search here, I'm shocked. It's been a thing since over 2 years ago?? Wow, I never knew....I think its a great idea, but had some reservations about the integration. Wondering if it screws up anything or runs smooth as butter? I too think it is amazing that you can edit with the proxy and conform right to the HD after purchased. Still scared to install, due to my system running very well lately after getting my hands on a new Mac Pro. Don't worry, I've been part of the whole discussion about the 2013 Mac Pro render glitch thingy...Hence me grabbing one of the new ones when they got to the office and I did the switcherooo.

  • PPro CS6 FPS Interpret Preview Failure

I have been working on a wedding video and I have needed to interpret some 60fps footage to 23.976fps.  I did it the way I always do it by going to modify and interpret footage then changed the fps.  This time however I can only preview part of the footage on the preview window, the rest turns black.  If I take just the black part of the video, however, and put into the timeline it turns into the footage it is supposed to be.  I still can't see it in the first preview window though!!!!  I need to go through a lot of interpreted footage so it would be nice to be able to preview it!  Any way to fix this?
    PPro CS6 on an imac.

Hi Kevin, I will do the bug report.
Hi Steve, that probably is true. The NeatVideo plug-in in AE and PPro is also the same - at least the technician in NeatVideo claims that. So, then it must be PremierePro itself reading or interpreting the .R3D files incorrectly.
Remembering that NV plug-in asks the host application for adjacent frames, I made also an experiment (in PPro) with how much is cut from the beginning of the clip with the following results:
    - as told before, if the clip is not shortened from the beginning, NV gives good results
    - if I shorten the clip only one or two frames, the result is not much worse
    - if I shorten the clip ten frames, the results are getting worse
    - if I shorten the clip couple of seconds, the results are getting even worse
    - the more I shorten the clip from the beginning, the worse results I get...
The clip I've tried has steady movement (the camera moves steadily in one direction). Therefore, I guess PPro gives different time references for the frame played and the adjacent frames NeatVideo plug-in is asking for. If the clip has been shortened on the timeline only a bit, then they still work quite well as references for NV to be used. And the more the clip has been shortened on the timeline, the less the "asked frames" work as a good comparison. It seems as if NV plug-in asks frames based on the length of the original clip, and PPro gives frames counted from the beginning of the edited clip on the timeline. Hence the bad quality.
