Ppro openGL crash/TDR

I have a thread about this open at the nvidia forums as well (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=217020&st=0&gopid=1336480&#entry1336480) but the more eyes on it the better I suppose.
PC specs:
asus p7p55 lx motherboard - BIOS up to date
Intel i7 860 - default clock speeds
16gb RAM - unsure of band
Zotac gtx580 - standard edition with default clock speeds
3 1-1.5tb sata6 HDDs setup in typical fashion for editing
750w thermaltake PSU
Win7 64bit professional - up to date
Nvidia driver version 285.62
Page file set to 24Gb
Basically here is the situation.  We bought a gtx580, 16gb kit and a 3rd HDD for my system at work...installed them and had no problem.  My copy of cs5.5 came a few days later so we installed that.  Ran into power troubles because my system had a 550w PSU...so we disabled the 3rd HDD to get css5.5 installed.  I did some test encodes to compare cs4 to cs5.5 with MPE speeds and it was great, a lot faster.  The 750w PSU got installed a few days later along with the 3rd HDD and the troubles began.  Anytime I work in premiere with MPE enabled I get the win7 TDR (display driver crashes and recovers...forcing a restart of ppro/ame).  This occurs most frequently when encoding in AME but will happen quickly if I edit in Ppro using MPE hardware acceleraration.  It even happens when I have mpe in software only mode while editing...although this occurs significantly less often.
Things I have tried to fix the problem...
-Rolled back drivers to 275.xx....clean install of 275.xx, 285.xx and the 290.xx beta drivers. All of them produce the same issue.
-Disabled the audio device with the same hardware ID as my video card.
-Over and underclocked the card's speed.
-Updated motherboard BIOS
Things I still need/want to try:
-Swap back to the 550w PSU to exclude the new one as faulty.
-Swap the gtx580 into another workstation to see if it produces the issue.
-Run burn in tests like prime95 and furmark to rule out the RAM and see if furmark crashes with the openGL stressing.
We have a gtx570 in the mail and it should be here soon.  I believe we will be putting it in my pc and the 580 into another to see if the 580 crashes on other systems or not.  I also have read about plenty of TDR issues with firefox and games with the recent nvidia driver releases so it could simply be a driver issue and unfixable until a new driver comes out to address the problem.  I'd prefer to troubleshoot all aspects of hardware to determmine if it is faulty hardware or not but it is my work machine, so I don't have permission to do whatever I want to it.
I have noticed that if I work with our camera's native avchd codec...the crashes occur more often than editing with a converted (mpeg2 bluray m2t).  It doesn't say much other than the crashing happens more oftennwhen the GPU is actually working.
My current 'solution' is to disable MPE so I get less crashes but it is still frustrating to work with.  If anyone has similar experiences or suggestions, they'd be much appreciated.  If I'm missing any info or details, let me know.

thats a weird thing going on with the openGL.  I've had some experience way back in past with gaming and 3d gaming with glide and open glide and various other 3d gaming stuff ( direct x etc is included in that mess ).
as things progressed with hardware and software everything in gaming changed ( re: openGL etc ). A good example is probably FSX and so on.
It's always been my impression that openGL was for gaming only and should just be shut OFF when on an editing computer.  If not shut off then disabled or whatever... as it just doesnt have anything to do with editing or maya or AE or stuff like that... and might confuse the computer re: what features of the graphics card it is supposed to use.
I am not a technocrat or engineer but maybe by taking card out ( rebooting, reinstalling etc etc ) you are just clearing up the OpenGL for "gaming" drivers that somehow conflict with the use of the GPU to do your editing work.
If you disable the openGl and just edit.. and dont do " gaming" that might solve your problems IMO.

  • Photoshop 13.0.1 Update - OpenGL crashes

I am having periodic OpenGL crashes since the 13.0.1 Phostoshop update this week.  I am running the current 301.42 Nvidia drivers on a GTX550Ti card.  There were no driver crashes in the 3 months before the update and the Nvidia driver was the same driver during this entire period.

What exactly do you mean "OpenGL crashes"?  How are you determining it's an OpenGL crash?  Is there a message that specifically calls out OpenGL?
It wouldn't hurt to look in the Windows Application and System Event Logs to see any more detail is listed there, and if so, maybe you can get an indication of what module failed.

  • [SOLVED] ATI HD5650M + radeon +opengl=crash

    Hi to everyone,
as the title says i'm having some strange problems with my ATI HD 5650M using the radeon open source drivers.
The problem arises randomly when i try to use the opengl hardware acceleration and also when using vdapau.
The screen sunddently freeze and strange artifacts covers the screen as you can see in the picture below:
Then sometimes it gets back to normal while the most of the times it crashes and i need to force shutdown pressing the power button.
I've tried everything i could found in the web but nothing seems to work and so i'm here asking your help
I'm also developing a program for my lab course that requires opengl so testing it on my machine is getting me crazy!!
Now the part with some info for you:

  • OpenGL crash error when opening after effects

When I try to load up After Effects it crashes and says "After effects crashed previously attempting to initialize OpenGL". I have updated my graphics card drivers etc. What do I do

This should help you guys hopefully. I am using the After effects cs6 and it crashes on startup with the error "After effects crahses previously attempting to initialize OpenGL. Consult the manufacturer of your graphics card for a compatible OpenGL driver". I have been using the same GPU for ages now and this has never happened.

  • PPro CC crashes when using Track Select tool

This is probaby the most bizzare bug i have encountered so far - everythig works - i can scub, play and adjust footage, apply effects, titles and time remapping, but when i select Treack Select tool and click on the timeline, Premiere Pro crashes.
This is a new develpment as well - i was able to use PPro CC just fine since i installed it (trial version), until yesterday.
No new applications or updates for Windows, Nvidia card or Adobe were installed lately, but all drivers are up to date (according to various update managers)
Premiere CS6 works fine with the same sequence (mixed RED and DSLR footage)

    thank you

    Yep, buggy project..
New project with same and different footage works fine
Other project created in CC works fine
Imported sequence from CS6 works fine
Imported sequence from a buggy CC project into a new project causes crash on using Track Select tool
I was able to revert the project in question to CS6 via Final Cut Pro XML, also works fine (for now, at least), just have to redo some time remapping which didn't come through with XML translation, small loss
I guess i'll wait few more months before switching to PPro CC, maybe mysterious bugs will be worked out by then
    Thank you for your replies!

  • After Effects CC - Won't open due to OpenGL crash.

I can't for the life of me get After Effects to work. It crashes when I try to start it. Premiere Pro works, |'ve tried restarting and reinstalling to no avail. I've also tried running CS6 but that also crashes. There's no way to disable OpenGL in CS6-CC.
I'm desperate for some suggestions on how to make this work.

Have you installed any CUDA drivers? If so, that may have caused the problem.
If not, have you updated your Radeon's drivers?

  • AE-OpenGl crashes in CS5

I am using After Effects to practice what I have learned in an animation class and currently I am rendering a piece that uses disney cartoonlike principles like over-compensation and things that mock physics. I  need lots of keyframes to control the motion but I am now getting this crash,
After Effect error, crash occurred while invoking rendering plug-in AE_OpenGl. AE asks me to save my project and closes. This happens if I scrub the line and so I am careful to work around it but it is very annoying. I am working on windows 7 64 bits with a i7 quad processor and 12 gb of ram ddr3 and so I am very surprised that this is happening. Is there anything I should do so that I can concentrate more on the work and not on how to keep AE running?

But what graphics card? The standard answer to such kind of isuues is just updating the graphics driver and adjusting settings, but without more detailed info it will be hard to advise. that aside, of course Todd is right. OpenGL at this point is not essential for AE to run, so it would be no loss removing the plug-in.

  • OpenGL crash in MAC

We have a Photoshop filter plugin that uses OpenGL component in plugin window.
Plugin is crashing in glDrawElements whenever plugin window looses focus. Note, that it works fine on Windows.
    Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

This can happen when the current OpenGL context is not managed. (we have had similar problems in the past) If Photoshop is called in any way with an OpenGL context it does not recognized it can cause a crash. Our plugins leave the Photoshop context active and right before we make OpenGL calls, we save the Photoshop context and switch to the plugin's OpenGL context. Immediately restoring back after the OpenGL calls.

  • --------   PPro CS4 Crashes when trying  "CAPTURING"

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I just bought Production Premium CS4. I installed all the programs that came with it. I opened Ppro to start with my project. but when I try to CAPTURE my movie the program crashes immediately without letting the capturing screen to appear. This is the message I get "Premiere Pro has encounter an error".
    [..\..\Src\Timecode.cpp-995]
I already downloaded the current updates but nothing seems to fix the problam. By the way I am running Windows XP X64. Can anyone help me please?

Not with the details supplied. Look at the FAQ section, the Wiki and the bold hints at the top of the page.

  • PPro CS4 crashes on every time I try to make a change to my project!! HELP!!!!!!!

    Hi,
This is a new thing, so far PPro hasn't been giving me any type of problem, but I was working on a project which I almost finished editing. Here is some information:
    * The project includes titles, a .gif logo runnning throughout the 5 minutes video and video transitions.. no color corrections.
    * My computer runs on AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+, 2.40 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 32-bit OS, Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Video card is NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT.
    * Premiere Pro version CS4 4.2.1
    * Crash details which I think is most important: <crash exception="EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" instruction="0x1f0b4df9">
And it goes on and on but i'm pretty sure all the information can be found here..
    What can I do??????

Often, when one receives and Access Violation for a memory address, some program has not reported its memory addresses correctly to the OS, or has told the OS that it has released that address, when it has not.
The two things that would recommend at this point would be to use the tips in this ARTICLE to see if you can find what is going on at the time of the crash. Then, look into Process Explorer (it and other tools can be found HERE). Also, take a look at this ARTICLE on setting up your system for an editing session.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • OpenGL crashes right and left

I get apparently random crashes when running OpenGL-heavy apps like World of Warcraft and GLTron. I called Apple for this last June, and they ultimately acknowledged the problem. What I'm looking for here is any known work-around and whether anyone knows if Apple is working on a fix.

Yes. A more powerful up to date Mac with plenty of RAM.

  • PPro CS5 Crash Course for Non-Linear Editors

Backstory: I was asked this morning to teach a crash course in Premiere CS5 for the students in the film program at my school in the Introduction to Editing class who have been using FCP. They have to edit several projects using RED footage, and rather than spend a huge amount of time transcoding it to a format which FCP can work with, the prof has just decided to have his students use PPro CS5 (which is also on their editing computers). Since the prof doesn't use PPro, he's asked me to teach the class for him.
I created a very brief crash course powerpoint to assist me in giving them the fundamentals of the program, and supply them with a resource to refer back to as they work on their projects after class is over tomorrow morning. I created this for students who already have done some editing in an NLE, and so don't need to be taught WHAT everything is and HOW to cut footage and put together a timeline. This is just to introduce editors to PPro CS5 who are not already familiar with the PPro workflow.
Anyway, I wondered if some of you gurus would want to take a look at it and give me your feedback on what I've covered well, what I might have missed, and any other thoughts y'all had.
You can view a PDF of the document at www.bryan.edu/pprocs5 The viewer will bring it up embedded in the page at about 40-50%, so you'd be best off to click the download link and open it in Acrobat where you can go full size with it.

    Thanks for the input!
I actually taught hem REDCINE-X last week so that they could use it to export their files to an intermediate codec that FCP would understand, and preserve the new colorspace. Unfortunately these computers are so slow that the export process was gonna take nearly a week for all the files they need to work with, so the prof opted to swtich over to PPro midstream since it can handle the raw 4k and supports the new colorspace.
I didn't mention the saving thing... forgot about it; but the conforming issue did come up and we were able to talk about that in class!
The class went okay, I guess... I don't know what it is about students these days, but most of them (like all but one) weren't really paying very good attention and they were just sorta goofing off, talking amongst themselves, etc... made it really frustrating to teach this platform!
    Oh well.

  • Opengl crashes my macbook pro

I've installed the latest OS update, and my fairly consistent MBP restart problem has gotten a little better. After running diagnostics and finding nothing wrong, I'm beginning to believe that this is a software issue.
Now it seems as though whenever I access a 3D-oriented site -- anything using WebGL or even any graphics-intensive rendering -- Chrome crashes and the machine needs to be restarted. My browser will begin to lock up and I will have to restart once or twice to get the machine going again. Running top shows that the kernel_task process is pegged at 100%. This, or similar versions of this problem, have happened when using other browsers as well.
Any reason why OpenGL would be futzing with my system? Any ways to tweak this or to investigate further?

Also, it's worth noting that I'm actually on Mac OS 10.9.3 (13D65), installed on a 15-inch early-2011 MBP. My graphics adapter is Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.

  • PPro CS6 Crashes on Exit in Windows 7 64bit

With any PPro project, when I click to exit the program, there's about a 1-2 second delay, the PPro window is dimmed and a few seconds later a dialog pops up stating that "PPro CS6 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Closing this dialog then closes PPro. I've uninstalled Production Premium, cleaned out the registry and re-installed it but it still occurs even with default settings.
Even with a new basic DV-NTSC project with nothing added to it yet, this happens. Open it, wait a few seconds, then close it.
I have the following additional info:
    PPro CS6 6.01
Widnows 7 64bit with all updates
nVidia (eVga) GTX-580 with latest drivers
    32GB RAM
    8GB Pagefile
The Application Error event log shows:
Faulting application name: Adobe Premiere Pro.exe, version: 6.0.1.0, time stamp: 0x4fac933f
Faulting module name: HandlerMetadataEditor.dll, version: 6.0.1.14, time stamp: 0x4fac92b8

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\HandlerMetadataEditor.dll
I hope somebody has an idea about what to do because this is very annoying.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Well, it appears that my workspace, that I've used over the past couple of years, was causing the problem. After changing workspaces and creating a new one (and unchecking Import workspace from projects), things are working properly again. I guess it somehow got corrupted. Wow, something so simple.
