PproCS3: Camera pans very jerky upon render

I am experiencing very jerky
camera pans upon rendering movies in Ppro CS3.  This occurs in both
compressed formats and when exporting to uncompressed AVI.  The jerkyness does not occur when the video is viewed in editing.
My most recent video where this efftect can be seen is at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMW34aCX-TU
There are 4 scenes in this video which utilize pans.
I am also recieving a multitude of error messages when exporting
  1. When encoding to WMA's I get "writer not found"  message.
  2. When renedering to AVI's at 720 or larger, I get a "disk full" message.  The disk has over 550GB free.  The movie is 5 +/- minutes long.
Many thanks for your help and suggestions.

2. When renedering to AVI's at 720 or larger, I get a "disk full" message.  The disk has over 550GB free.
Jeff,
Please tell us about the format of the destination HDD. This error is normally associated with a full HDD (not your case), or when the HDD is formatted to FAT-32, and not to NTFS. Could this be the issue? Is this an internal, or an external HDD? What is the connection type, for either?
Good luck,

  • Video "jigsaw" artifacts appear when camera pans on burned DVDs

I've been pulling my hair out for days as I export endless new sequences at different settings and then burn DVDs, only to find that the problem does not go away. The issue is the infamous "jigsaw" artifact effect, or whatever you want to call it, meaning that when viewing the resulting DVDs, when the camera pans, images "tear" and kind of spazz out. This seems most noticeable when panning past straight vertical objects, but is not limited to only this circumstance. My suspicion is that this is all the result of an interlacing issue in iDVD, but I have certainly learned that I am capable of overlooking the obvious or being wrong. What I don't understand is that with all of us out there working on Avids and using iDVD, either there does not seem to be a unified ideal export setting that resolves this issue, or I am having a comparatively unique problem. The shame is that most of the DVDs are looking great, and it is only this one issue that is sabotaging completion of this project. I'm at my wits end, so any and all knowledgeable help is supremely appreciated. Help me keep my hair.
When viewing any of these exported clips within quicktime player, the jigsaw is not visible. But when viewing the burned DVDs on my Mac, the jigsaw is visible.
When viewing the burned DVDs on my Panasonic HDTV (TH-42PX75U) the jigsaw is visible. When viewing the burned DVDs on my Sony Trinitron Production monitor (non HD), the jigsaw is visible.
Avid Software: Avid Xpress DV 3.5.0
Editing system info: Mac G4 "Mirror door" model - Dual 1.2 Ghz PowerPC - memory 1024 MB
OS Software on Editing System - OS X version 10.2.3
Quicktime version on Editing system: QT version 6.3
Software used to burn DVDs: Idvd 8 version 7.0.1
Computer used to burn DVDs: MacBookPro3,1 - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz (codec downloaded from Avid and installed - prior post about video not displayed in QT exports was due to missing codec)
Quicktime version on Computer used to burn DVDs - QT Version 7.4 (92) (with Pro upgrade)
    DVD media used: TDK DVD-R 8X 4.7GB
Info on sequence I am burning - A 1 hour and 50 minute program of African wildlife footage all shot on regular mini DV tapes. Camera used was the Panasonic AGDVX100A on the 24 frame setting that does not require a software fix (the correction is done in camera). All the footage was digitized using this camera. When viewing any of these exports afterward within quicktime player, the "jigsaw" is not visible. It only becomes visible after burning them and then watching the dvd. All burns in iDVD 8 are using the "professional" burn mode.
Export settings from Avid and iDVD 8 result summary -
    1) Exported at "same as source" from Avid yields arguably the absolute worst result, as I rather suspected with the whole field / interlacing issue, but I was feeling hopeful.
    2) Trying to bypass Quicktime by using "dvstream" as the export setting also yields a very poor result. This jigsaw problem does not occur, but the resulting image is terrible. Very milky blacks, the compression is worse, as in much more noticeable, than any other export, and the image is soft and thin looking, rather anemic, and it ruins the visuals completely. What is a bit odd to me however is that I had been using dvstream to burn DVDs of other projects for years on prior versions of iDVD and it never seemed to be a problem. As I tried this one first, without having the Avid codec installed in my MacBook (which I use to burn as I can run iDVD8 on it, also meaning that trying quicktime reference is not an option, I must export, then move the completed export to my macbook pro), I am currently exporting it one more time to see if installation of the codec fixes the horrible compression and color result, but I am not hopeful at all.
    3) Tried using an Avid forum suggestion that recommended using 720 X 480 - crop/pad - RGB color levels - even (lower field first) - native dimension 720 x 480. No good.
    4) Another Avid forum suggestion to try the "Animation" setting for video
instead of "Avid DV" is not a viable option. The infamous "2 GB limit" message
comes up as the export nears completion and aborts. This message does not appear
with any other export setting. When cutting my sequence in half, the same problem occurs. Even if I could get it to work, the result would be useless if it meant I had to send people several DVDs of the program chopped up into little bits.
    5) Heres a summary of other export attempts all using Quicktime movie and "Avid DV" for video, keeping in mind the info I read about how at least one version of iDVD had the field order (ntsc vs pal)reversed a while back. I would expect that Apple has fixed this problem by now, but just in case...
    a) odd field - 720 x 486 - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
    b) odd field - 720 x 480 - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
    c) even field - 720 x 486 - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
    d) even field - 720 x 480 - - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
Suggestions to buy a different dvd burning program or new software are nice and all, but I simply cannot afford it. I also have a fear that if I were to try a different program that the same darn thing would happen, as no one seems to be able to say with 100% certainty that this specific problem would be fixed. The only thing that would be worse than my sense of hopelessness and helplessness at present would be spending more money and still not having this maddening issue be resolved.
Help... and thanks to any of you who take the time to read this epic length post and reply!

PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks to having downloaded Toast 8, the dreaded interlacing has disappeared. The first test made me nervous. I exported from Avid using Sorenson and using the "automatic" settings for Toast's detection of fields etc. The DVD still had the jigsaw at the same spots, but it was not as pronounced as some of the tests with iDVD. I then exported "same as source" and used the advanced settings in Toast to tell it "lower field" and maxed the compression settings as much as I could without exceeding disc space. The DVD result is the best looking I've seen so far and all interlacing artifacts are gone! Thanks to Blackdog at the Avid Forum. I now know this interlacing problem was 100% the fault of iDVD 8 and will be using Toast from now on.

  • Photobooth app, when using video is very jerky

Upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks. Also updated the app but now when shooting video using the internal camera on an iMac is is very jerky, worked fine before upgrading to Yosemite.

    Couple of things:
There is virtually no standardisation of video formats. The file suffix is if little use to use as, in the case of video, files are just containers for data streams encoded and decoded by Codecs. Pretty much every manufacturer has their own codecs for each and every camera. Put it this way: every Jpeg still is pretty much the same, as there is an agreed standard for that format. There is no such guarantee with avi, mov etc. That's why the model and format of the camera is important.
This model was released in 2012, and you're trying to read data from this using a QuickTime 7, which predates that by a few years. Oddly, Snow Leopard came with QuickTime X, so I'm not sure what you've done there.
iPhoto does not guarantee to import all video from all cameras. What cameras it does support are usually still cameras with a video add on. What you have is a camcorder and the correct app for importing and manipulating video from such a device is iMovie rather than iPhoto. It may be able to transcode it.

  • IDVD movie jerks when camera panning...

    Hi all.
Last week I made my first imovie and yesterday burnt my first DVD. The movie looks great on the mac screen but when I show it on TV (I've tried a couple types: LCD and CR), when the camera pans, the picture becomes slightly jerky (delays then catches up.)
I encoded it in the best quality, used this disc: 4.7GB single sided 1-16x speed and recorded the footage on my fuji camera (not great quality but always played well on tv)
Any ideas what's gone wrong? Could it be the disc as I noticed that you can buy more expensive ones with different speeds?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Dean.

    Hi Dean
I hope You noticed that iDVD has two kinds of qualities dep on how many minutes
    Your movie + menus demand.
AND that the namning is slightly confusing
With material total less than 60 min You can use Best Performances
and for material less than 120 min Best Quality.
Top Quality = Best Performances SIC
Brands may differ: I use Verbatim DVD-R (x8 I think)
    NO DVD+R or +RW
I noticed and it may be a fixed idea but with less than 20Gb of free space on
the internal hard disk I get a more jerky and pixelated (in rapid movments)
    result.
    So when critical I:
    - free up lots of space on my internal drive
    - have OS, QT and iDVD on this + movie project
    - make a disk image
    - test it with Apple DVD-player
    - Burn with Apple Disk util tool at an as low speed as possibly eg x4 or x2
    Result: I'm satisfied.

  • The timeline  and cursor move very jerky (in a continual chattery motion) in Windows 8.1

in my project the timeline and/or the cursor move very jerky (in a continual chattery motion )  in windows 8.1
i have set the Windows Software Compatibility setting for their "Window 7 emulator"  and the condition still persists.
also the "fullscreen playback"  for the project used to  be very fine resolution and now it is very mushy...
all  this tells me there are real problem with my Premier Element 10

    Littlefeather
You are running Premiere Elements 10 on Windows 8.1 64 bit. The program works just fine in Windows 8.1 64 bit when run Windows 8.1.
So do not go altering to another operating system. I know this first hand.
The immediate factor that needs ruling in or out is your video card/graphics card. Specifically "Does your Windows 8.1 64 bit use
a NVIDIA GeForce card? If so, that may be your answer. See Announcement at the top of this forum which describe the Premiere
Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce problem and gives the fix of how to roll back the card's driver version to get Premiere Elements 10
    to work for you.
Once we are assured that you are not afflicted by Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce syndrome and also know that your current
video card/graphics card driver is up to date, then we can move on to seek other factors that may be causing the problem.
For your convenience, the following is a copy/paste of the Announcement about the issue as it appears at the top of this forum.
All the links and how tos that you will need are in this announcement.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing
Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling
back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches
specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then
the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The
typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA
nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports

  • Moving an image is VERY jerky on Photoshop CS4

I am using a Mac Pro 12 core with 16 GB of Ram, and a Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 video card.
When I make updates to my images or move the image around the page, there is a significant delay when viewing the change. Movement is very jerky.  This is incredibly annoying, and just doesnt make any sense.  Mac doesnt make a faster machine, and as far as I know this video card is pretty smokin with 1.5 GB onboard memory.
I have tried all the performance settings and nothing seems to help. Getting CS5 is an expensive upgrade, so I am hoping CS4 is not a complete waste of time and money.
    Please help.

Here is an update to the issue...
I formatted my hard drive, upgraded the OS to 10.6.4, installed a fresh copy of CS5 Web Premium (with no additonal fonts or plugins).
The system info is as follows:
    Processor: 2 X 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 16GB 1066 MHz DDR3
Hard drives: 2 X 1 TB (one boot drive, one as work folders and scratch disc)
Video Card: Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 with 1.5 GB onboard memory (brand new - purchased and installed to try combat this problem...it didnt help.)
.....and I am STILL having the same problem.
When I open up one of my PSD layouts, moving an element like the logo around the page is a nightmare. It is not smooth at all. It has a lag of almost 5 seconds before the image updates.
I am at my wits end.
Can someone please help me troubleshoot this.  Where is the incompatibilty now?

  • I have problems with gameplay(zuma blitz and bejeweled blitz)in the firefox browser window. the game is latent and play is very jerky..can u please help. i played them in the IE8 browser with no problem

i've tried playing zuma blitz and bejeweled blitz in the firefox browser window and the play is very jerky and slow.

Just had the same thing happen AGAIN. Suddenly - a blank iPlayer Desktop which failed to download new programmes. All previous programmes were still in the repository folder. This time the sequence I outlined previously didn't work.
What eventually got things working this time was to reinstall Adobe Air as part of the BBC iPlayer Desktop installation process - and not separately.
    So:
    a) Move iPlayer to trash.
    b) Find and delete the following folder: Users/Yourname/Library/Preferences/BBCiPlayerDesktop.61DB7A798358575D6A969CCD73DDBBD 723A6DA9D.1
    c) Find and delete the following folder:
    Users/Yourname/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/BBCiPlayerDesktop.61DB7A798358575D6A969CCD73DDB BD723A6DA9D.1
    d) Find and delete the following folder:
    Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository/cache
    e) Find and run: Applications/Utilities/Adobe AIR Uninstaller
    f) Empty the Trash. I found that bits and pieces of BBC iPlayer were still running despite having been quit and dumped in the trash - and so it wouldn't allow me to complete this part. Restarted the computer, then empty the trash.
    g) Find the folder: Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository and rename it repository2
    h) Reinstall iPlayer. It will tell you that you have no programmes to view. Quit the programme.
    i) Find and delete the folder: Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository
    j) Find the folder: Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository2 and rename it to repository.
    k) Relaunch iPlayer
It would be terribly nice if the BBC or Adobe stopped buggering about with this . . .

  • Thumbnails scrolling very jerky

    Hi all
When I scroll through my events screen or scroll through the thumbnails within an event it is intially very jerky and laggy. Only when I've scrolled all the way to the bottom and then scroll back up again does it become smooth. It almost seems like iPhoto is loading the thumbnails from scratch as they appear on screen for the first time, but this happens every time I start iPhoto - shouldn't these cache somewhere so that the scrolling is smooth from the outset?
Is this normal behaviour for iPhoto or do you think there is something wrong with my setup? Coupled with the fact that my iPhoto is uploading to Flickr in a completely random order (which I have started another thread about in here) I am starting to wonder if there's something wrong with my install and am considering uninstalling and reinstalling it. Any other advice first?
    Thanks
    Steve

I've uploaded a screencast of how it looks to me on YouTube here. Can somebody view it and comment on whether it's jerkier than theirs? Perhaps iOS has just spoiled me, I don't know, but I've never seen iPhoto '11 on any other Mac so have nothing to compare it to.

I recently purchased a Mac Pro (one month old) since day one I have found that when trying to use Face Time the camera is very intermittant, originally I thought it was a problem with the software, but have since realized that if I place a slight pressure on the right hand corner of the monitor, or wiggle the screen, then the camera will begin working, so has to be a poor connection...has anyone ele experienced this problem?

  • Aperture 2.1.1 Loupe is VERY JERKY!!

Hi fellow Macusers! I just signed up on Apple Discussions, hoping I can find answers to my frustrating questions, and possibly help solving others.
As an avid amateur photographer, I have completely fallen in love with Aperture, and the way it lets you organize and edit your photos.
But I find that when I have edited an image, using the loupe tool over this specific photograph results in a very jerky and unpleasent experience. The Loupe doesn't hover over the picture smoothly.
Does anyone know what this problem is, and if Apple will be releasing a software update soon? I'm in dire need of a fully functioning Aperture 2, and can not accept poor performance like I am experiencing now.

@Karen, thank you. Sounds like a good idea to max my MBP out with rams equalling it to 4GB of ram.
@Allen, I guess you're right, grahpic apps are resource hogs, guess I'm just expecting too much, but then again, even though it's not the easiest task at hand for Apple, software updatesand drivers are known do wonders to performance in high system requirements apps.
@Aristophanes, the files are made from a _Nikon D70s_ firmware 2.0, JPEG Fine (best quality).
I tried updating the Preview in aperture, but that didn't solve anything. Still jerky.
I also made a new version from master, editing it again, testing out the loupe for every applied enhancement made. And as the photograph got more and more edited, the the worse the jerkyness got.
*I guess it's* what some people are saying in this topic, the bottleneck is not necessarily the graphic card but the available RAM. I guess if I can afford it (being a med student in europe is not easy)I'll upgrade the RAM, if not, I'll pray Apple does something about it down on the software level.

  • Why is my new iPad mini with retina very, very jerky and slow?

    Hi,
Does anyone know what I can do about my new iPad being very, very jerky and slow?
FACT - The multitouch screen is unresponsive and I have to press and press and press to select what I want before it reacts.
It's an iPad mini with retina, so it's got the new chipset which runs really, really fast.
    FACT - What happens is:
I start up pages and it freezes completely for quite a while before allowing me access to my documents.
I go to settings and it freezes up totally for quite a while before allowing me access to my settings.
Is there a cure? I get similar problems on my acompanying really, really fast iPhone 5s.
    PS
Plenty of memory left so no problems there - only about half used and they're both 32gb.
...and my beloved iPad2 never used to do this either.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Sorry, not quite accepted, I see that I missed something out...
This rapid flashing has only occured since I had BT Sport included in my package a few days back. Before then the light had been stable green with the occasional rapid flashing whilst I have been connected to the internet. That obviously does indicate data transfer.
However, when I was not connected to the internet, the light glowed a stable green all the time. Now it flashes rapidly even when I'm not connected - I'll add there that my BT Vision box remains on all the time.
Heat - The unit IS WARMER than it was - That may sound nit-picking but with my OCD's I "Touch-check" every item of electrical equipment every time I leave my house and, when I go to bed at night  so I am very well used to "How warm something should be" so that in my mind, I "Feel Safe". At this time I don't "Feel Safe" with the increased temperature so have to switch it off overnight, or when I leave my house.
** The unit may of course be warmer due to extra data-transfer but then, why do I suddenly have extra, and constant data transfer when my computers are switched off and I'm not using the internet?
A thought about that I think could be that someone else is constantly accessing my connection though I've no idea how that could be so or if that ever could happen.
