Pps files

Hi all!
This is something that doesn't always happen:
I've received a pps file which won't open either with PowerPoint or neoOffice apps.
PowerPoint stops responding and I must force quit the app as well as force quite the corresponding MS error reporting app.
neoOffice stops right after the beginning and would not go on after only showing a fraction of one image..
I must force quit it also.
I've read that it would be possible to open a pps file by changing the file extension from .pps to .ppt if keynote is installed, but keynote is not installed, there is only Keynote.mdimporter in: /Library/Spotlight.
As I understand it, keynote seems to be part of iLife, which I don't have nor want to have it.
I've also read that a pps file will not open if it is encrypted but I cannot tell whether it is encrypted or not.
What alternative is there that I can use to open pps files?

So far the suggestions to use Neo Office (if it could work) had been a proven method;
but since .pps files can be derived from Microsoft documents, they may have changed
how they are configured over a few years time; and Neo Office may not have kept up.
Google Docs http://docs.google.com/ would probably be able to handle it; or just send
the pps to someone you know (and trust) who has a gmail address and have them take
screen shots of the content, and email them back to you. Or get a free gmail/accounts
at google as a trial method of opening documents. I have two gmail addresses, no other.
(Their panaramio web page of world images is accessible to upload via a google login.)
Not sure if there is a suitable translator or built-in ability in AppleWorks 6.2.9 (OS X) to
handle those Power Point documents from later Microsoft-created sourced software.
Open Office? It also may have been left behind in how MS related pps/ppt docs go.
A few things may have changed in the past few years, in regard to the abilities of the
open office neo-office kinds of tools; from what I've read, they did work a year + ago
to open .pps and .ppt files.
The presentation suite in Open Office or Neo Office (check for updates with the latter)
should be able to open the downloaded attachment from an email, etc; unless it was
created in a later Windows version of PowerPoint. Keynote can open them.
Not sure what kind of web browser may be able to 'see' the .pps file if dropped on an
empty open browser window. I just looked through my stuff and don't have one .pps
file to test the theory here, unfortunately. However, somewhere I do have an unused
Trial version of an early Keynote software. May be too old to open a new Windows pps.
So, anyway, I thought I'd get back to you. And I do know that people who've sent me
powerpoint file types (I don't download email) were viewed easily in Gmail, online.
Hopefully you can convince them to open. Threats don't work. Bribes? Tithes to software?

How do you stop Safari from removing last download when it's of the same file type? (e.g., when I download a new pps file I can no longer open a pps file that I've just downloaded)

When I download a .pps file, I can open it from the downloads and everything is great. But if I try to download another one, then I can no longer access the previous download from the download bar. This is very annoying to me as I download and open dozens of these files every day. Is there some way that I can display all the files in the download bar and not just the last file downloaded of a certain type (a way to get Safari to stop hiding the .pps files)

To prevent Firefox from displaying form autocomplete suggestions, you can turn off that feature using the about:config page.
In the address bar, type or paste '''about:config''' and tap the Enter/Return key.
I suggest bookmarking this for easier future access.
In the search box, type or paste '''formf''' and tap the Enter/Return key.
Scroll down to '''browser.formfill.enable''' and tap the Toggle button to switch it from true to false.
That's it. Does it work on Facebook?

I can't see from my PC the .pps files stored into Keynote in my iPad

Hi all, i would want to know if it's possible to see from my PC the .pps files stored into Keynote in my iPad 2. When i am syncronyzing the iPad with the PC, in the iTunes tab called Applications, in its end part there's a double panel (Share files): on the left side, under 'Applications', a list of the Apps. installed on the iPad; on the right side, under 'Documents', a list of the documents that the selected app. on the left has in the iPad.
No problem for Quicknote or Documents to go Premium: i can see the docs these apps. have in the iPad, and thus i can use the 'Save in' option to copy them to my PC, and also i can use the 'Add' option to transfer docs from my PC to the selected app.
The problem is with Keynote application: while i have two docs in this app. in my iPad, i can't see them from iTunes; and also, i can't see in the iPad the docs i transfer to the Keynote app. with the 'Add' button.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the Keynote app. on the iPad (without rebooting the device between the two things) without result.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Regards.

I have seen the solution: i have to explicitly share the files from Keynote options:
- IPad --> iTunes: with the presentation open, Configuration > Share and print > Send to iTunes.
- iTunes --> iPad: '+' > Copy from: iTunes.

Problem in opening ".pps" file from jsp

My ".pps" file is on server i want to open this file on client side in microsoft office or inside IE.
But right now all other types of file are opening except ".pps".

I am using plane link to open the file. No streaming is used.OK, then it's certainly a client-side problem. The client simply doesn't recognize the file type and/or it has no application associated with the filetype. No need to worry about it at the server side.
And i don't know how to set accociation on client side. Windows explorer � Tools � Map options � File types.

Problem in seeing the .xls and .pps file content

hi all
i have uploaded files to my server using jsp and i am giving the link to see the uploaded files to user
it is working fine for .doc,.jpg ,.html ,.txt ,.ppt files
but not for .xls and .pps files
thought when on save traget as.... (on user's computer )it is working
but on simple left click on the link (of .xls file)
the bytecode data is opened in the browser window

Music of imported pps files doesn't sound on Keynote

I got Keynote on my Ipad, and when I import pps files, its music doesn't sound. It's very strange because the same file, I open it in powerpoint in my mac and it works fine, the musics perfect. So what's the problem? Can i do something on my mac to get this pps file to work with music on my iPad keynote?

How could I NOT import them? Appointments I do "by hand" show up immediately on the other devices. The imported appointments show up after modification.

If you just bought iMac it should come with Pages and a demo copy of Office which may need to be register to get it to work.

Opening PPT/PPS files

Hi!
I'm looking for a solution to open PPT/PPS files.
I *don't* want to use LibreOffice (and even less MS Office with wine).
I've been googling for some app that converts PPS -> PDF, since I don't mind creating a short script to let me see and PP{S,T} with any PDF viewer.
Anyway, either a script to convert-and-open, or some other alternate application will do, but I want to get rid of libreoffice (hence, jodconverter is discarted too, since it depends on openoffice).
Any ideas? The "lightweight applications" wiki entry doesn't list anything, it seems like opening PPS files is rather uncommon.

Thanks, but it looks like too much fuss to just open PPS files (create a google account, save the PPS I get from an e-mail to disk, upload it to google, and open it).

Keynote and PPS Files

Can Keynote be configured so that .pps files automatically open as a slide show.
I have set up a family member with an iMac, OS 10.5, and NeoOffice. She receives attachments as .pps files.
Unfortunately, while NeoOffice can play .pps slide shows once opened, it cannot do so automatically.

Yes, the app works normally on its own. I've been using it to open .pps files from email or wherever all the way back to whatever OS was there when I first installed it, probably Tiger, and it worked fine all the way up through 10.5.8 on the old G5 iMac. Now, on the new Intel platform and Snow Leopard, I get these failures.
I don't think it's a problem with the files themselves, and I think this is still supposed to be something that works ... but can't be totally sure of that.
In the meantime, I'm left with opening them on the iPad.

Free software for .pps files

There are free viewers available for .pps files.
Here is one I found--all you have to do is search for "powerpoint viewer mac os x" or some such variation:

However, don't you think it would be a better idea to try and figure out why Powerpoint freezes on half your files?
You might want to find Microsoft Powerpoint forums over at Mactopia and ask some questions there.

i can't open pps files sent to me by email

I have a PDF document that I sent to a friend and my self. I could not open it on my iPads but she could open on hers. Mine shows up as a Winmail.dat I resent the email as a text format and now I coudl see it as a PDF and open it up.
Can someone explain why she could open it and i coudl not?

Firefox 3.6 will prompt me to download or view for the .pps file type. But Firefox 4 seems cannot recognize .pps file type and trys to display it. The result is a frozen browser window.

Within Firefox 4, I right click to open a new tab on a link pointing to a file with .pps extension. The new tab is full of special characters. Looks like the .pps file is being displayed. And the browser is frozen.
I try the same mouse click on Firefox 3.6 and the prompt for download/view window pops up in the new tab. That's the action I need.

You may have set a download action to open the file in Firefox: Tools > Options > Applications

That can also happen if the server sends the PPS file as text/plain : Tools > Page Info > General

No music with pps files

Hope you can help me with not receiving music with pps files. I spent 2 hours with Microsoft to find out my mac is working fine with all music. After he went through every possible thing was mac he finally came up with it is not compatible to someone starting the pps file on a average window computer. I transfered my file to him and when it went to a mac... NO GO! Is there something that I can purchase that will make my new mac compatible to windows pps files. I than went back to the mac guy who has told me to go to a mac store with the file. Surely one of you wonderful people have experienced this problem. Can I download a product that will help me open my uncompatible music pps file. The folder itself presents all pictures, but no music... much appreciate anyones help on this. These files are ones that are going around on the email circuit. So beautiful, music would be a bonus..

I have been away... But I tried download NeoOffice. No problems downloading and there was a patch that went with it too. anyway opening after the download it came up with this message.
This package can only be installed on a Power PC machine & cannot be installed on a Intel-based machine. So I guess I found out I must have a Intel-based machine.
Hoping someone still will come up with a miracle.
