PPT to KEYNOTE to Web?

hi. i posted a question recently (http://tinyurl.com/38gg4z), but didn't get any reply.
perhaps if i rephrase my questioning:
Is it possible to take someone's PPT presentation, open/import it into Keynote,
and then export it into a web-ready format (like Flash)?
My client's PPT presentations need to be on the web. They are on the PC.
The Articulate app does this flawlessly on the PC, but I'm on a Mac.
ANY help would be tremendous! thx

You're welcome. You can mark this topic as "answered".
But there is just one more thing... There's a problem with Keynote QuickTime movies sometimes stopping during playback. See this thread for some workarounds:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5454356
...I particularly like the workaround of using Apple's sophisticated presentation of movies via .Mac Web Gallery. Here's their demo page:
http://gallery.mac.com/emily_parker
...click on one of the three movies there. Some caveats to using this are that viewers would need to be using a modern browser (IE 6 won't work, 7 is necessary) and probably QT Player too. Plus the storage & data transfer limitations on a .Mac account.
Well, even if it's not practical to use Web Gallery as the main presentation, it could be useful for showing demos to a limited audience, say, for pre-approval of a presentation.

Looking for a howto for an applescript to batch convert PPTS to Keynote...
    Hi to group!
(cross posted this a couple of weeks ago to Keynote forum, no responses) Perhaps the query really belongs here...)
    (I) Have a whole bunch of PPTs to convert to Keynote, now and more as time goes on.
Looked into applescript to try to automate this a bit (could open PPT file but did not see any way to 'Save' file from a script).
Also looked into bash scripting/automator too -- way too many options to choose from. Help!
Anybody done anything similar to this already?
    TIA for pointers. //GH

    A word of caution.
I have not tried the workflow before.
I am not an applescript expert.
These steps were quickly composed using my basic knowledge in Applescript
What I was planning was to create a script droplet that when a ppt file is dropped upon it, it extracts the name of the file and sets it to a variable to name the keynote file later. You might have to modify it a bit to batch process multiple files.
Try going through batch processing scripts made for quark or Adobe photoshop ( Not sure if these exist on internet) to see how they have implemented the steps in applescript.
To GUI Script Keynote, do these steps...
All the code has to go in here
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">activate application "Keynote.app"
    tell application "System Events"
       tell process "Keynote"
-- insert GUI Scripting statements here
       end tell
    end tell
    </pre>
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">click menu item "Export…"  of menu 1 of menu bar item "File"  of menu bar 1</pre>
This will click the next.. button provided the default export type is set to PPT
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">click button 2 of sheet 1 of window 2
    </pre>
This will click the Export button on the next window
click button 1 of sheet 1 of window 2
This piece of code can be used to set the name of the ppt file using the extracted name in the first step
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">set value of text field 1 of sheet 1 of window 2 to "<string>"
    </pre>
May be there is a better way out there.
Thanks for red_menace for his Script formatter script

    Hi KRKabutoZero,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #58042 on A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac.
Do you have access to another Mac? You may want to backing up your files via Target Disk Mode (TDM) as well as running some utilities (Knowledge Base Document #58583 on How to use FireWire target disk mode.
You may want to invest in a utility like DiskWarrior from Alsoft. It is great for troubleshooting drive malfunctions.
As said before, you may also want to bring your iBook to your local Apple Store/Reseller.

  • I'm editing ppts in Keynote exporting back to PPTs and loosing "hyperlinks" to movie files

I'm editing ppts in Keynote but have to use them as exported ppts to teach college in a Windows-PC environment
    Keynote 5.3
    MacPro OSX 10.75
    SUBJECT:
Loss of ppt function after opening in keynote then exporting as ppt
Educational ppts (Powerpoints) from Pearson play movies using PowerPoint or Powerpoint Viewer via a button located on some slides if the movies are located in the same folder as the ppt.
If I open such a ppt in keynote and immediately export it as a ppt, the ability to play the movie is lost; the click on the button just advances the slide instead.
Is there a preference in Keynote that might be set differently to prevent this behavior and allow playing of the movie from within the Powerrpoint application.
Note that the size of the file (via Get Info) is exactly the same after exporting the ppt FROM Keynote 5.3

    Thank you Gary,
    I did just that last night;
Select the graphic object ("Play" Btn").
Open the Powerpoint "tools" floating pallet wd.
    Open the "Hyperlink" 'tab'
    select 'link to file'
then browse (open finder wd) to find and select the movie file.
Click "Open" and a powerpoint function returns the full path to the file and associates it with the "mouseUp" msg handler within the script of the "Play" Btn, which I expect essentially sends a doubleClick to the movie file ( ie. opens it) and it will then play in a new window from within some other application like Quicktime or Media Player if that other application exists on your computer. (I'm getting a (sandbox?) dialogue window first, telling me,  asking me something) that needs to be dealt with. I'm using Powerpoint for Mac and OSX 10.7.5.
(I expect that will not occur using a PC and some version of Windoz in the PC ed conference room environment or using emulated Windoz 7 within the Parallels 8 application on the MacPro, but I have not tried that since I only have the Powerpoint viewer installed in that Windoz 7 system as of the moment.
I've never really used Powerpoint or Keynote until recently because I have used my own presentation application created in Supercard which of course is much more flexible; from the ability to utilze windows of any kind or number on any slide, to all the power of unix via shell scripts and a huge set of functions native to the Supercard suite of stable developement tools.
Any suggestions how best to integrate movies into straight Keynote presentations ?
    Thank you again Gary,
    -Dan

  • When creating a PDF from a PPT or Keynote application on a Mac using Acrobat X Pro, how do I ensure it can be opened on a PC? Do I need to save as a particular version of Acrobat?

When creating a PDF from a PPT or Keynote application on a Mac using Acrobat X Pro, how do I ensure it can be opened on a PC? Do I need to save as a particular version of Acrobat?

The system was not my own, it was on a PC belonging to the school where I teach. The error message referred to Acrobat 9.0, so I assume that the problem is to do with the version on which the file was created being more recent than that on which I attempeted to open it.

  • Ppt and keynote 09 font issues

I'm opening a .ppt file with keynote and the fonts (tahoma) doesn't display properly. Any suggestions?
The fonts it's a major prob in general when u r opening a file crated on ppt/pc with a keynote 09/mac

Solution found: copy and replace the Tahoma font from my win pc laptop and it works like a charm. (I forgot to tell you that I'm using the Greek language).
.ppt files open now and looks good and on Office 08 for Mac and to Keynote 09.

  • I web to Keynote for web??

Can Keynote be used for web?
Talked to Apple support and one nerd said it is possible if one is creative.
    Advice ou there????

The question was can keynote be used for web. The answer is yes. You can make a slideshow, a movie.
But no, it cannot make websites. Nor does it do karaoke, nor does it do space travel. Nor does it do a lot of other things.
Perhaps people should make more sane demands.
    Try logic.
In case of doubt, call AppleCare.

  • Opening PPT causes Keynote to max CPU, stop responding.

I have read all about how Keynote "just converts powerpoint files when you open them".
However, I have NEVER had success with this.
every ppt I have downloaded opens keynote, i get the "Opening..." progress bar, the bar gets to the end of it's 'process', then keynote displays the first page of the presentation for a SPLIT SECOND then disappears as Keynote seems to "Zoom" the window to cover the desktop area, and then the CPU goes to ~80%, the fans turn on and I'm stuck with a not-responding Keynote. Every **** time.
The ppt's I open are all from very different sources online, so are unlikely to be of one vintage/version of Powerpoint.
Can anyone shed some light on this? No one seems to have the same issues as me.
I have had to resort to logging into my university's Win2000 servers and remotely opening the ppts. not fun.

    good idea!
    http://www.ipcc.ch/graphics/graphics/ar4-wg1/ppt/figure08.ppt
tho, i have never successfully opened a ppt, always getting this same problem, and there doesn't seem to be alot of other people out there with the same issue

  • PPT to Keynote will not transition on click

I have a PPT presentation that I saved into Keynote. I have all slides set to transition on "click". However, I have ONE slide that will not transition on one "click". It takes a 11 clicks to transition. It takes 11 clicks consistently. How do I fix this??

Flash Player issues with Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5)
Issue 1: File upload using FileReference.upload fails in Leopard. End users are unable to browse to the file to upload.
Issue 2: Black colored blocks appear behind text in Flash content.
Solution: These issues are addressed by a refresh of the Flash Player 9 Update pre-release for Macintosh, available on Adobe Labs. The Macintosh downloads were updated on 11/1/2007 in response to user feedback and are version 9.0.98.0. The Windows and Linux downloads are still 9.0.64.0.
This fix will be in the final release of Flash Player 9 Update.
Note: All users should uninstall any currently installed Flash Player before installing the Flash Player 9 Update.
Issue 3: On an iMac, the Safari browser shows a delay during the initial transition to full-screen mode.
Solution: This is a known issue which will be addressed by a future release of Flash Player.

  • How to maintain transition effects and sound when transferring PPT to Keynote ?

When transferring Powerpoint presentations created on my windows 7 laptop to Keynote to display on my I Pad retina, I lose all transition and sound effects. Is there a solution to this ?

In the Document tab of the Inspector, select "Self-Playing" under Presentation and enter '0' (zero) for the delay times.
Now when you export to QuickTime, you will have another option in the drop-down: "Fixed Timing." (this will represent the timings you have set within the presentation. Ignore the 1-second timings, they appear to have no bearing on the finished export.)
    Check "Include Slideshow Soundtrack."
From the Formats drop-down, go to "Custom..." and select "Mix Audio" from the Audio drop-down.
("Copy Audio" will give you a separate QT movie containing only the soundtrack.)
    Save to wherever.

  • Keynote and web links

Hello there. I exported my slideshow to Flash to be viewed in a web browser. How do I make links that go to other web pages open in a new browser window? I have some links to other web pages and some that are for navigation through the slides. Thanks

Keynote doesn't have a way of creating links that will allow you to do that. I've tried and was never successful in getting a link to open a new window.

  • How can i convert ppt file into a keynote using windows 7 ?

can i change a powerpoint file into a keynote file on my labtop using my windows 7 ?? if yes can i send it to someone who has mac OS and will it work well with him?

No, he'll download it as a PPT.  Keynote can then open the PPT file, and he can choose to convert to the Keynote format once its open.
Keynote: Supported file formats - Apple Support
All he'll need to do is save it.
