Pr 1.2 firmware to n900

I put two posts in the forum about the new firmware pr 1.2 and they were erased from the nokia.
Does the new firmware 1.2 taboo subject here in the forum?

It's not taboo - far from it. People are very eager to talk about it and we're all looking forward very much to its release.
No-one knows when it's coming, though. Despite it being an open source software platform, Nokia are far from open when it comes to talking about releases

  • N900, How to check firmware, and send operator com...

    Good day to you all,
i recently got my N900 from a Nokia Store (Monday 23rd), i am living in UAE, Dubai
i would appreciate if someone could answer these 2 questions:
1- how do i check which firmware do i have (usualy in Symbian *#0000#)
2- when i dial *121* which is a service command to check my balance it gives me a wrong phone number, so is there any way to send these commands (maybe in terminal?)
    thank you all

  • N900 Firmware release responsibilty?

Apologies if this has been asked and answered elsewhere.
But just who is responsible for the release of firmware for this device?
As it's a non branded device, i.e no network custom software, do the networks still have to approve the release of the firmware or are we actually waiting while Nokia drag their heels.
Vodafone have no idea. Some moderators are saying the latest firmware is still awaiting Vodafone's approval and some are saying they know nothing and can't advise.
The problem is, if I type my product code into Nokia's firmware search it still comes back with V1.2009.42.11 as being the latest firmware when other N900 owners are walking around with V2.2009.51.1, and they are on the same product codes. I've been told that because I used Maemo Flasher to bring my firmware in line with others I have voided my Vodafone warranty.
I'm not sure about the manufacturers warranty, but I do know that Ovi Store wouldn't work on 1.2009.42.11.
    Any answers please?
    Cheers
    Mick

You bought an unlocked device from Nokia that you're using on Vodaphone. This means two things:
Vodaphone is your primary point of contact/support for the carrier-provided services you enjoy (calling/voicemail/data/etc). They might also support you connecting the device to their network (if they're nice). They'll provide no, or limited, support for the device itself.
Nokia is your primary point for contact/support for the device and its features that you enjoy (its operating system + apps). Nokia will distribute firmware updates, patches, and the like directly to owners of the phone via it's built-in over-the-air update feature. When an update from Nokia is available, your phone will tell you so...
Most anything else you need that might fall in between these two relationships, you can probably get via the online community of thousands of Maemo users/enthusiasts/developers (http://talk.maemo.org).
     Hope that answers your questions.

  • N900 firmware

    Hello.
N900 firmware used to be available at http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php, but now it gives me a 404 error.
http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/ redirects me to http://www.nokia.com/support/ which contains nothing useful.
Where am I to go for these files now?

the official download site for the firmware images is indeed down (and won't be coming back), but unless my memory fails, you should be able to update/reflash the phone using Nokia Suite.
Nokia Care points _should_ be also able to reflash the phone.

  • N900 Maemo 5 firmware update

Hi - system tells me I shd update to MAemo 5 3.2010.02-8.203.1.   Previous updates have worked - but this one hangs and tells me "there is not enough memory in the target location". Iam doing it over wireless on the phone ....  I have got a few apps on the phone - but the memory functino tells me I've got 22.38GB available on the device memory and 1.57 GB avail for installable applications.  So there seems plenty of space.
Can anyone help?  What am I missing?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Awesome!!
Ok, here's some things to do:
    1) download the flasher tool for your phone:
    Visit http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php
    Download and install this file:
    maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.exe
    2) Download the firmware for your device
    Visit http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
    Download the EMMC image: RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
Rename the file to emmc and move it into C:\program files\maemo\flasher-3.5\
Download the OS image. You'll have four options depending on what your phone is running at the moment
Open settings on your phone, scroll down to about product.. It will be the one start 3.2010.02.. Download the file that matches that version exactly:
    RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin    for the USA
    RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin    for Middle east/North Africa
RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin     for the UK (but not Vodafone)
RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin    for the rest of the world BUT NOT HONGKONG!!
The bold bits have to match your version
If you don't see your version (ie if you are Vodafone UK or Hong Kong) then STOP.. this'll need some more thinking
Once you've downloaded this file, rename it to os and move it into C:\program files\maemo\flasher-3.5\
Ok, that's the prep work done.. assume it all went ok, we can wipe your phone:
(If you're using Windows 7.. urguh.. this becomes tricky.. it means running cmd window in XP mode?!)
    Open a cmd window:
    cd \program files\maemo\flasher-3.5
    dir os.bin emmc.bin
That should  confirm you have the two firmware images you need
now unplug and turn off you phone and run
    flasher-3.5 -F os.bin -f
It should sit there "waiting for suitable device"
press and hold the U button on your phone's keyboard and plug it into your pc using the usb cable.. keep U held down until flasher wakes up and starts flashing your phone..
If it doesn't report any errors.. GREAT! that's flashed the bit that was causing the dmesg errors you saw
Now, flasht the emmc! Without touching your phone, run
    flasher-3.5 -F emmc.bin -f -R
It will take a bit longer to flash then your phone should reboot and start up.. Providing flasher didn't report any errors you should be good to go
unplug your phone from the USB if it is stuck at a Nokia logo

  • *My* frank opinion of the N900

    *My* opinion of the N900
I know there are a few threads about that address this but I felt that it wouldn't be so bad to restart the conversation once in a while.
I got my N900 a week and a half ago and am right in the middle of deciding between these 3 choices:
    - keep using the N900
    - go back to my N97 and keep the N900 in the hope that within a few weeks/months Maemo and apps will vindicate us
    - go back to the N97 and send the N900 back and wait for months until Maemo gets updated or even wait for the next Maemo device.
Here is in summary my opinion of the N900: it's a great device/computer but it's a lousy phone. I am kind of critical of the phone below even though I really like it and really want to use it more. So please read with that in mind.
What makes me optimistic is that all the problems I will be mentioning can and most will be fixed by software updates. We are not talking about dismal memory or scratched lenses like the N97 or wobbly sliders like the N95.
So please be kind, here goes my N900 impressions/opinions:
    Hardware
    ++++
    - Solid build. It's huge and heavy but, surprisingly, I don't mind too much. It strikingly contrasts with N97. this is a taste thing.
    - Keyboard is great. Much better feel than N97.
    - Humongous amount of RAM (for now. Once again, aslight dig at N97)
    - Device does not fit in my Columbia khakis' phone pocket.
    - I really like the tilt flip of N97 and as such currently dislike the flat slide for N900. I'm sure this is an acquired taste.
    - I prefer the keyboard layout of N97 though the physical keyboard on N900 is better.
    - Kickstand is flimsy
    - I still think MicroSD slot should be accessible without removing battery cover. Yes, it still allows for hotswapping so that's still good.
    Maemo
    ++++
    - Multitasking is great.
    - Task List shortcut *and* effects are nice.
    - Effects in general are great.
    - I liked the desktops and widgets.
    - I *do* want my portrait mode for everything. This is a huge downer. Everything is in ladscape except the phone dialer.
    - Maemo should implement the "hold-the-key-to-get-the-alternate-character" keyboard scheme that is fairly standard on other Nokia phones.
    - On the virtual keyboard, why would the '.' not be on the same slate as the alpha? Makes no sense to have to switch to the other slate just to punctuate.
    Communications
    ++++
    - I did not think Skype integration would be that important but I love it. SIP and other networks from the dialer as well.
    - I goes and gets your contacts' profile info when you are logged in to a network (Skype, Google Talk, etc) Pretty handy.
    - eMail app does HTML. And pretty well too.
    - Need a way to easily get to the phone app from anywhere.
    - No support for network codes *#num# etc...
    - No Speed dialing
    - No sound profiles! My Nokia 6310 and SE T39 from 2001 did this! **bleep**?
    - No Skype video calling (Fring does it!)
    - eMail app should allow me to view emails in fullscreen mode.
    - The whole message notification system is not very well thought out. If I leave for some time and just unlock the phone, there is not obvious way to tell that I got any new messages. It's only when I do a task list flick that I see that a conversation has resumed. Yes, the notification light flashes but nothing obvious is on the display.
    - There is no obvious notification that I have missed calls. Same as message notification above.
    - It seems to me that the internet connection is never disconnected. Even when all I have that needs the connection is the email app to poll every 30 minutes, the internet (whether 3G or Wifi) icon never goes away. This could be a huge battery saver if optimized.
    - On the flip side, it also appears that if I just turn on the phone, it does not automatically initiate internet connections so then my email does not get refreshed unlees I remember to do it first by hand. Pretty inconvenient if you ask me.
    Music Player
    ++++
    - It's ok. Not a big critic so I am neither excited not negative about it.
    - A FM receiver on the device but no FM software? **bleep**?
    - Creating playlists is not clear. I still am sot sure how it's done after 10 days.
    Video Player
    ++++
    - Broad format support
    - No support for changing setting when watching a movie. I have some 16:9 movies that it shows at 4:3 and vice versa with no way to change. This makes it useless.
    Web Browsing
    ++++
    - Browser is very good.
    - Love the (albeit limited) gesture shortcuts. Slide from left to hover (ok this one isn't that cool or clear,) slide from right for history, spiral on the screen to zoom in or out.
    Maps and GPS
    ++++
    - GPS lock is much faster than other phones I've used. This is great in conjunction with Camera for geotagging purposes.
    - I don't know what the Maps application is doing on there. It can't do anything. Search finds almost nothing, directions are barely average and no turn-by-turn. Please at least steal or beg Google to make Google Maps for Maemo.
    Camera
    ++++
    - Pretty decent. Better than N97 in my opinion.
    - Geotagging is much faster than N97 even though it seems to tag too early so sometimes it's off because it uses the cellular info before a full GPS lock.
    - Love the 16:9 mode. I realize one can do it post in Gimp but it's still cool.
    - No Xenon flash means photos not as good as N82 in the dark.
    - Once again, same problem as with N82, when taking a portrait photo, Nokia decided to put lanyard slot on "top" of the device which makes the lanyard sometime get in the way of the shot.
    - Photo browser could be so much more.
    Applications
    ++++
    - Fennec, anyone? http://firefox.com/m
    - Obviously, I wish the Maemo catalog of apps were as big as that of Symbian apps but we'll get there, right?
    Office/Organizer
    ++++
    - PDF viewer included.
    - Pretty basic so close to useless.
    - No syncML support so can't sync with GooSync or NuevaSync.
    - I think a device of this caliber/price/power should just have office applications built-in. I don't care if it's DataViz or OpenOffice or AbiWord/Gnumeric but it's bunk that we only get a trial of Documents-to-Go. Anyone know if OpenOffice or AbiWord is coming out for Maemo soon?
    Other
    ++++
    - I am on T-Mobile so 1700 3G rocks.
    - I love doing apt-get in the command line. I am a geek!
    - This has been talked about everywhere and opinions/mileage vary but for me battery life has been dismal. As a test, I charged it up before going to bed: 9pm and by 7am it said it was half empty. All I had running was my mail checking every 30min and all my "identities" were inactive. No Wifi usage just 3G. It dies by 11am. This was after a week of cycling so that battery had a chance to be normalized.
    - Wifi also killed the battery even if it was not connected all the time. This is a known bug so it should be fixed soon.
    - For a > USD500 device, it's stupid that I don't get a full User Guide in the box.
    - Why do they insist on Ovi store. It's **bleep** for Symbian phones, it'll be **bleep** for Maemo.
As I said, some of these are already on the Maemo bugs database, some are widely known issues and some are just personal preferences that may or may never be remedied.
I hope it helps people who are thinking about getting the device and I am hoping that the feedback I get here will help me decide whether to return mine or not.

So it appears that almost none of the firmware fixable items were addressed in Maemo 5/PR1.1. Out of the 23 issues I had that could be fixed via firmware (10 were either hardware or other issues that were not), only the #6 got a partial (and unofficial?) change: you can now browse the web in portrait mode by keying in ctrl+alt+o on the keyboard. Still waiting for another update I guess. I really do miss the phone, it just did not make sense to own and tie up that much money in a device I will not use as my primary phone. although the < USD450 price at Dell is very very tempting ;-)
    Still waiting, Nokia.
For reference, below are my issues from original post.

  • Installing new firmware on a mac osx

    Hi Nokia!
When are you rewarding Mac users who stuck it out with you guys and didn't jump on the iphone bandwagon? Up till now, we only have isync and that trashy multi media transfer software from beta labs. How about a complete pc suite and the ability to upgrade firmware? That would be a nice Christmas present for all mac users, huh...what do you say? I personally have had nokia phones from day 1 and I now have an n95-1.
I would like to upgrade to v20 but I have two issues:
    1.) my product code 0548986 doesn't support the upgrade YET and;
    2.) I'm a mac user.
So were does that leave me....hey the iphone!
    n95er

I usually do the update of firmware thru internet using NSU. You don't have to drop at the NSC's just to update your phone. I visit only this centers if I'm going to buy accessories for my phone.
    Cheers!

Have you gone to a nokia service center to get your firmware upgrade? I think this is our only option for now. They charge 500 pesos to do this (if your phone is without nokia phil. warranty. I did this for the 12.0.013 upgrade.
By the way, you don't need to use windows media player (which sucks), just download the new plug-in for quicktime and you can do it from there. make sure you have quicktime pro.

  • Firmware upgrade for Nokia 6280

I would like to know do we have firmware upgrade for Nokia 6280 as my present one is 3.65 and would like to upgrade it to 5.92 and I am in India
Could you please help me out.

updating to new firmware depends on product code which represents your region of purchasing, language pack and if it's branded or not .... so NOKIA releases firmwares and release it for every product code depending on mentioned points
you can check for updates @ :
    http://mea.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update
To find what the latest available device software is, you’ll need your device’s product code. The code is printed on the white label beneath the battery (e.g. CODE: 0520001).
if your phone is branded with an operator, that means that you should go to the operator care center and ask them, not NOKIA
some updates delay in some countries variant product code, as it requires more effort to add language pack to it like "example. China Japan Korea" or it needs the country to approve it due to its policy

I see that the device 5233 had an firmware upgrade availibe from 12.1.089 to 12.1.092. This upgrade is now not availible for the nokia 5230. This device is much slower than the 5233 and 5800.
Is there a way to make this upgrade also soon availible for the nokia 5230? Because this device has now only the firmware version 12.1.089

try to uninstall them and re-install on memory card not phone memory

  • Nokia N95 v31.0.017 Bugs- Demanding a new firmware...

Hello guys, I have recently upgrade my firmware from a nice v30 to v31 with hope of improvement in many things. But I end up very regretful after. My phone is no longer do what V30 allowed me to do.
    For example:
Taking Picture using the standard built in Software within the OS. My phone refused to start the Camera Application. Also refused to enable accelerometer for "Rotate Screen" mode. When ever i enabled it, a few seconds later my phone get on a plane of forever reseting every time it started up, it will reset itself again and again. I tried to re-install the firmware many times, 5times in total, but nothing good happening from it.
The Camera is not at fault here, I tested it with the "Barcode Scanner" software and it work fine. Also tested the camera with the PhotoRite and it also works. I am very disappointed in NOKIA, I've using nokia for the last 5years and this is the worst things that I've never ever met.
If anyone can tell me what to do from here would be nice. I just got my phone back from the Service Centre today. And update today, and very upset today..
is there a way to roll back tot the original firmware?

  • Problem with Nokia N900

    2. Downloaded Facebook widget but it can't work as asking for account validation but when I put user name and password for my facebook just give an error that there are no network connection.
    3. Installed aMSN messenger but unable to do the voice chat. Camera is working but voice is not working. Error received that Snack Library Detected. Please guide me how or where to found Snack Library in my phone.
    User of:
    Nokia N8.00

The phone doesn't yet support this "operator codes" so you need to call the appropriate number instead. I understand this feature will be coming in a firmware update.. See this thread for more info

  • N900 N97 fair trade in campaign starts here

Seeing as so many users are unhappy with their N97's myself personally included (but ive persevered)
despite having to reboot, hard reset, missing music files, missing artwork, backups not working, scratched camera lens, countless hours spent on forums trying to solve issues and hundred of hours of my spare time
and basically the product was launched in no fit state for commercial use and even now after the latest firmware still has software issues and bugs hows about someone from Nokia saying fairs fair we havent handled this situation well why not let N97 users exchange/trade in their n97's against a N900 which I am presuming has been beta tested better
as a loyal nokia customer I would happily pay an admin charge for this service somewhere between £50 and £100
which i think is a fair compromise bearing in mind the new n900 is launching for about the same price as  the N97 did and the fact that the N97 mini is cheaper and has more ram !!
The campaign for nokia to do this starts here lets get lots of supportand take it to nokia

remember when the N95 first came out?it was buggy as hell compared to my grandma's attic..:manvery-happy:
I had one... Actually I still have one. N95-1, silver with a plum back.
I was an early adopter of that. It might have had bugs, but all the functions worked. It was quirky and used to eat the battery. That's okay, I can work with that, just had a spare charger in the office. Later firmware solved the battery eating habit.
The N97 however was quirky for me with V11 and V12... Fine, I've lived with that before, no show stoppers. V20 is a whole new kettle of fish... It's terrible. They made album artwork work in music player, and broke the player for me! I can't control the volume of mp3 playback (if it will even start the app without throwing one of a selection of error messages, including "USB Attached!", "Out of memory" or "System Error").
I did a complete wipe and reinstall V2.00.19, once finished I connect to my wifi and OVI Store app says it needs to update... Fine, do it I say... It then throws up and error "Unable to download nnnnn.sisx". Repeated via phone data connection... This is a fresh reload with formatted mass memory!
I eventually had to change the HTTP User Agent on my browser to pretend to be an N97 browser to download the new sisx with my PC and then install it with PC Suite.
I now have the N95 in my pocket to use as my mp3 player! At least the handsfree kit fits both.
I should have learnt... I never upgrade windows version until SP1 comes out, I shouldn't have gone to V20 until V21 appeared. I just didn't think it could have more quirks than V12... Well I guess it doesn't. Most of the quirks have gone... It just has howling bugs!

  • Nokia 5800 v21.0.25 Auto-Rotate issue (firmware re...

    Hi,
After updating OTA to the lastest firmware Auto-Rotate display stopped working. When i first installed the new FW I had issue with the home screen. It kept blinking like every 1 sec between homescreen and appication screen. This is when I noticed that I cannot reinstall the FW from either NSU or OTA(I suppose it has been pulled of due to some problem for this model). I was luckily able to soft-reset the phone which fixed the home screen blinking, but the Auto-rotate doesn't work anymore. Sensor seems to be ok since step counter is working, muting the phone call and snoozing alarm works
Now I'm pretty annoyed since I can't reinstall the software and this is my only phone at the moment so I have to loan some phone from somewhere in order to the this to the service.
So be carefull with the new firmware.
    Solved!

You cannot reinstall OTA updates because they only work from version A to version B. Your phone now has version B on it already.
I've read that 5800s don't have NSU available for v21 yet, but I guess it's just a matter of time, then you can reinstall as many times as you like!
Thanks for the tip though. I don't use the auto-rotate or motion sensor at all, so I'll be updating just to get the improved Touch that's apparently coming.
I believe that if you have one version installed, and it is the latest one, you can reinstall it using NSU. I'm not sure how it works if you updated OTA vs NSU, though.

First, sorry, my english is awful!
Soon on the market? Of course, I buy before it reaches any shop-any telecom company...
So I WAS a "good boy", "don't worry Nokia... I buy it, you make it better... step by step...
BUT Nokia is doing NOTHING. Sorry, but NOTHING AT ALL:
    - Firmware update...coming soon... but there're too many bugs that must be fixed FAST!
    - Ovi Store... coming soon... Do you really think it's so complicated Ovi Store for Nokia, OMG! a simply shell for repositories with a minimal description and snapshot and we can wait for great 3rd party app... but NO MORE COMING SOON.
    - Themes... LOL! COMING SOON FOR THEMES!... Come on, boys!
    - Ovi Maps... eeehhmmmmm... you know... (only a nice detail: how can the fastest route be slower than others?? Is a new Maemo 5 concept??? Einstein couldn't do it better!)
I only can realize that very few Nokia developers know how to develop for Maemo 5, and these few ones spent his days reading Maemo.org and fixing the bugs found for the coming soon firm update.
    WAKE UP!
    HURRY UP!!!
    In Spain, 599€, not 500€.
I LOVE my N900. But I fell like a Ferrari owner with square wheels waiting for the coming soon-under development Ferrari round ones.
