Pr 2014 picking up an extra frame during export

I need to export every clip in a sequence as it's own file. I select an In/Out for the clip with an X and ask for an export on that portion. Some of them will get the last frame of the preceding clip tagged on to the front of the export. I thought it was AME doing this but it's a Pr problem.
I have footage shot at 59.94 which gets exported to 29.97. IF the clip marked In/Out for export starts on an odd frame, it gets the extra frame from the preceding clip. If it starts on an even frame, no problem.

Aside from ProRes being designed for editing, the short answer is that ProRes is a much less compressed, intra-frame codec and mp4 is a highly compressed codec which I believe is long GOP. You can Wiki the difference, but mp4 is designed for deliverables such as web uploads. The file sizes are small due to the compression.
ProRes is compressed, but not nearly as much, and the intra-frame nature of the codec makes for easy editing.
The real issue is that neither FCP nor Motion really like non-editing codecs like mp4, h.264, m2v. You may be able to get it to work, but more often than not, you'll just be setting yourself up for frustration.
While there will be slight quality loss from converting your video, it's not as drastic as analog generational loss. Chances are very good that you can go from mp4 to prores, back to mp4, and not be able to see any quality loss by eye.
Even in the digital world, it's best to start off with the highest quality master you can get your hands on, so that when you're working, you suffer the least amount of quality loss. But the state of compressors these days is so good as to allow us to work with lower res files and still finish with a quality that is extremely close, if not indistinguishable from the source.
Hope this helps.

  • Dropped frames during exporting

I have noticed that I am loosing frames when I export.  I have tried changing my settings to "Match Sequence Settings" and my video settings to "Match Source", but am still loosing frames, which is very apparent in my pans.  Any thoughts on how I should fix this?
I shot with a Canon 7D with my settings at 30fps.  I initially setup my sequence for 1080P 23.97fps, but have changed it to match the RAW video settings.

Just how did you change the sequence settings? Did you modify the existing sequence? If so, that might create some weirdness.
What I would try is (in the same project) create a New Sequence with the 1080p 29.97 settings, then Select All/Copy the edits of the original sequence and Paste them into the new sequence.
I recommend against using the "Match Source" business in AME, control the parameters yourself so you know what you will be getting on the export.
Also, what is intended destination for the export? Let's make sure you're choosing the best export options. The setting you chose is neither for web nor Blu-ray - what did you want to do with that file?

  • AE is Garbling Some Frames During Export

    I am exporting:
    640x480 Composition
    "best setting"
    "lossless" (with audio)
    .avi
    I am running:
    Lenovo Y470
    Intel i7-2670QM Quad-core
    8MB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 7690M
Most of the video renders correctly, except for 5-7 frames. They are single frames and typically appear in the last 30 seconds of the rendered file. This is what it looks like:
The strangest thing is that these frames are garbled with frames from another AE project I worked on over a month ago.
I did recently clear my AE disk cache because I wanted to try using another storage device. Other than that, I have not done anything out of the ordinary. I have had garbled frames once of twice in the past but they were only when I was trying to do too many things at once on my computer while AE was rendering a ray-traced composition. I would re-render and they would turn out fine. Plus, they were never frames from another project.
    Things I have tried:
    Restarting AE
    Restrating my computer
    Clearing the disk cache
Moving the disk cache to another folder
Moving the disk cache to a USB3.0 flash drive
I have rendered the composition at least 4 times and have had similar results.
Thanks for the help - I am bewildered. (And I can't get any work done!)

Additionally, I have since cleared the database and cache under the "Conformed Media Cache".  These are what the garbled frames looked like when exporting an .avi:
The frames are at least garbled with images that "make sense."
This is what I got when exporting as a .mov:
Just little white lines and only on two frames.
When I exported the composition as in H.264, it worked just fine. I am baffled.

  • Preview renders adding extra frames exponentially in Premiere Pro CC 2014

Having this strange anomaly happen when rendering previews. The preview render dialogue box starts adding extra frames and the thing becomes an exponential loop gradually moving to 100% but never reaching it even if the render is only 10 frames long.
On a Z800 with dual X5570 12GB RAM Intel processors Nvidia and Blackmagic Decklink 2 video cards.
It most seems to be happening around PPro generated title GFX and with dissolves. The strange thing is I can render small sections by setting discrete in/out render areas, but there is always a small section that won't render. This has just started happening on the latest 2014 update of CC.
Have been using CC for the previous 12+ months without incident, so it would seem to be something in the latest version. Not killing me, but it is a bit strange and kind of annoying.
Anyone else having a similar issue?
    cheers Pete.

This sounds like bug that was fixed in the update released this morning (CC2014.0.1. aka, 8.0.1). Please let us know if the update does not resolve your exact issue.

  • Green frames when exporting from CC 2014

Hello. I just updateted to the newest edition of premiere pro(aswell as all the other CC software i have installed which includes phoshop, speedgrade, audition, ame, and after effects). So the versions of the software are the very latest.
My computer is late2013 macbook pro with nvidia graphics card, and i have all the system updates installed, nothing special going on.
    Heres the issue:
When exporting the project, i get random green frames, full green frames. Complitely randomly, no pattern whatsoever.
My workflow have been this: Footage shot with two Sony cameras and i have encoded all the materials to mxf format with one step earlier AME version. I started the project with one step earlier premiere, and i have already done 19 out of 23 sequences that project contains, no problem at all with earlier version of ame&premiere. Now i updated to the latest 2014 cc and these green frames started to pop out randomly. I have not used any plugins or effects, only premieres own threeway colorcorrector and bightness&contrast. Parts of the clip have transparent black video as textbackground with crop effect applied and basic textlayer from premieres own text editor. I have exported few grpahics from aftereffects (both the lates and the one step earlier version) to proress 4444 format as RGP+alpha. And im exporting with using youtube SD widescreen 360p settings, nothing changed. Again, everything worked perfectly before update.
    things i have tried sofar:
delete caches both manually and from each software
    normal boot
    pram reset
    safeboot
    update check
export XML from 2014 cc and import to earlier premiere -> no luck, things got messed up somehow
made a copy of both project files, i compared and changed some version number from 27 -> 26 so i could open the project in earlier premiere -> no luck (this worked back in cs6 time when i had to import cs6 project to cs5.5)
Kinda running out of time, so rest of the night im going to spend re-editing those sequences i have done today with newer version of premiere. Will adobe pay for me for these extra hours, i think my client wont approve one extraediting day(night becaus of the schedule, these must be ready tomorrow with no green frames) because of software problem?
Ask anything you want, i'm 100% sure this is not user error since everything was fine with one step earlier premiere version. I will copy&paste this to the bugreport too.
    Thanks

Temporary solution for this was "export xml" after all. I had to disable all graphics and textlayers and delete colorcorrections, and flatten multicam, so i had to redo all grading ja graphics stuff in older premiere after importin FCP xml. But got the work done in time. Won't use cc 2014 in near future unless someone figures out what is wrong with green frames. (well actually now im exporting from older AME, will she if the green frames pops out there too, wouldn't be too much surprised....)

  • Help Please?  Dropped frames during capture!

Hello everyone, I am capturing from a mini DV camera to FC Express HD using a fire wire. I've been doing this for a year and all the sudden I'm getting a "dropped frame during capture" message.
I have read many many discussion boards and tried all of your suggestions...
Using different camera's, different tapes, different firewire cables. I've uninstalled and reinstalled FC EX HD and Quicktime. I tried turning off my external drives and using the internal drive to capture to and created a FC project within the internal drive. I have plenty of space on all drives.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Nothing seems to be working. I appriecate your help!!!!!

maybe you switch off the warn dropped frames during
capture option... after that watch your clips... is
    there any problem still?
I'm really worried now. I turned off the "warn dropped frames" option. After capture, when I playback, I get a warning that there are dropped frames, and then picture freezes. Help! I don't know what to do!

  • Dropped Frames During Capture

FCE HD is dropping frames during capture when I'm taking video from my Canon Video camera and the three DVD players I've been using. Any suggestions or ideas?
    Here's my info:
    - Didn't work for either of these setups:
    - Canon to my iBook G4 via firewire
    - DVD player to DVD converter via RCA cables to ibook via firewire
    - My external Harddrive (LaCie 230 GB) is hooked up to my laptop via USB Drive.
    - Easy setup configured to DV-NTSC or DV-NTSC-DV Converter dpending on capture device
Thanks in advance for the help

    Hi Lisa,
Well, for starters you probably have less free space on your internal HD than you did a year ago - rule of thumb is keep at least 15%-20% free space on your drives, especially your system drive; more free space is better. Couple that with the fact that USB really can't keep up with the demands of video and it's easy to get dropped frames.
There's also the question of what else you've put on your machine since last year, whether or not you updated OSX or QT since then, if you have anything else running when you capture ... there could be lots of factors.
Have you ever run a maintenance utility on your Mac - eg. MacOSXCocktail, MacJanitor, Onyx, etc ?

  • InDesign Exporting to ePub adding extra frames

When I export my InDesign file to ePub I keep getting extra frames (gray rectangles) in the ePub.  I tried different export settings but keep getting the same result. What am I doing wrong? Here is link to ePub.  please help!

Okay, I figured out what was wrong.  I had two frames on top of each other in my indesign file. I was anchoring the top frame and using it to create Articles in the Artciles pane.  The extra frame behind my images was used to create a shadow effect.  Next time, I'll just use shadow effect.

  • Premiere pro cs4 is adding an extra frame to my sequences

Premiere Pro CS4 is adding an extra frame to my sequences so that when I import them into Encore an extra, black frame plays at the end. In the program monitor my sequences stop at the frame I have set the sequence to end at but the counter on the bottom right of the program monitor shows that an extra frame has been added. This duration, not the duration I have set for my sequence, is what Premiere Pro is importing into Encore. I have spoken to Adobe technical help and the representative was having the same issue but she could not resove it. Help! Thank you!

    Hello Wil.
For various reasons, I always add Black Video to the end of my Sequences, to allow for any extra Audio Units. As I also Export DD 5.1 SS, I allow 02 sec. of Black Video at the beginning, to allow set-top players time to "lock onto" the DD 5.1 SS Audio Track. Many high-end units require this extra time at the beginning, too.
    Good luck to the OP,
    Hunt

  • FLV files exported with Alpha have extra frames after end of sequence.

Sequence is 588w x 486h Animation+ codec, talent chroma-key (Conduit) on track 2 with no background on track 1. Flash 8 is installed. When I export using the QuickTime Flash export component using On2 VP6 with Alpha Channel settings, the resulting FLV has additional frames up to around 20 seconds for a 2 minute sequence. These additional frames are a freeze of the last frame in the sequence. I tried several different sequence codecs/Spark codec with same result. Even setting an In and Out on the sequence does not help.
One symptom I have noticed, is that when I click in the timeline beyond the last frame of video, I still see the last frame of video in the Canvas (But not in the BlackMagic video card output). Normally I would see black or checkerboard.
Anybody heard of any conflicts with the Flash Export component dircect from the timeline or via a batch export.
Exporting an Item Settings QuickTime (Animation+) files and then using Flash Encoder does work, but I am trying to avoid the extra steps. (250 sequences to export)
I suspect I have an issue with the export component, but I wanted to see if anybody else has experiences this before I reinstall FCP and Flash software.

I have found what I believe the cause of the extra frames issue here, so I thought I would post it for others.
This appears to be caused by a problem between the Adobe FLV Export Component and QuickTime 7.2.  Adobe's website says that Flash encoder has issues with non 44.1 kHz audio.  Changing the sequence settings to 44.1 and rendering the audio solves the problem and FLV files exported from the timeline or via batch export are the correct length.
Exporting FLV files using either Spark or On2 VP6 with alpha, used to be a breeze with awesome results.  I do this all day to support our Flash developers.  The audio issue is easy to work around, but I also get random errors in the alpha channel of these movies now.  These single frame errors appear as black flashes.  There is nothing in the timeline that would appear to cause this.  Re-exporting sometimes fixes it, or simply moves the error somewhere else in the timeline.    This may also be related to QuickTime 7.2, but I don't know.
If anyone has experience these flashes in the alpha channel of exported FLV files please let me know how you resolved it.  This is a major productivity killer.
    Thanks....

getting red frames when export from cc 2014.2 codec used panasonic mxf format long GOP 50p. If any solution please help on that

i solve my red frame problem. originally my project was done in premiere pro cc 2014.2 & i render in Encoder cc 2014. in newer version i get lots of red frames. i complain a lot to adobe customer support . they said they know the issues but they couldn't solve. I was so tired from adobe customer support. one of the worse customer services i had. My friend got the mac pro & e got premiere pro cc 7.2 version. i convert all my footage mxf to mp4 in encoder cc 7.2 version and i succeed. i don't get any red frames.
So i think the problem is in adobe encoder cc 2014.2 version. newer version.

  • Funky effect - extra frames? hard to explain (link)

    Hi all,
I'm not much of a video guru--moreso a graphic design guy that has to do video stuff now and again Here's my dilemma:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuYvE4W7CLw
This video export is getting kind of a ghosting/trail effect when you see the car in motion, like it is leaving extra frames behind?
    Details:
    I'm on Premiere CS4
I've used a bunch of different export settings, but have only produced slight changes in this effect
It was filmed with a couple different cameras including: A flip cam (60fps), an HD handy cam (29.97fps), and a goPro Hero cam (29.97fps)
I'm thinking it has something to do with the flip cam's 60fps frame rate. Help is greatly appreciated!

    First, neat "ride."
Next, it looks like an Interlacing issue, if I am lookng in the right places.
From the Source Footage specs., it appears that you are shooting everything Progressive, and then Exporting to Progressive. Is that correct?
If not, then check the Interlacing of each camera.
Now, CS5 & 5.5 will handle mixed footage, better than CS4. I am not saying that will be the "fix," but something to keep in the back of your mind, if you are on a 64-bit OS.
I saw, what I would also call "ghosting" in some of the track shots, where the auto was traveling across the lens axis. That could be an issue with the effective shutter angle of the camera.
Just some thoughts, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Extra frames appear in burned DVD

Can anyone tell me why my burned DVD, (that runs smoothly in FinalCutExpress, and in Preview mode in iDVD) has very quick EXTRA frames?? It is highly annoying, and very frustrating!!! The frames are definately NOT there in the FinalCut timeline, or iDVD preview, so where are they coming from?
    Thanks!!!

You're right. It's not very well explained by the Help Menu IMO. Could use some refining. But I didn't write this thing so I can't really explain in detail. But I can show you an image of what I am referring to:
Doesn't sound like your own iDvd project has a movie or slideshow in the first box. But if there were, you simply select it (one click) and hit the delete key.
Suggestion-Go ahead and add it anyway to the first box there and then delete it like I said above. Sometimes iDvd needs a bit of a jolt to get working properly. That or dispose of the plist for iDvd from your Home folder (the one that looks like a house) > Libaray > Preferences > com.apple.iDvd.plist
Make sure to quit iDvd before disposing of this preference file by a simple drag and drop to the trash followed by a complete restart of your mac. Won't harm your mac nor your existing project. But you may need to address iDvd's preferences again / things like the apple logo on the menu (if you want it there or not). I always keep it deselected. Your choice.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dropped frames during capture attempt

    Hi,
I keep getting dropped frames during my capture attempts. I am using a Canon Elura 70 as my playback deck which I realize is not ideal for log and capture. Can anyone one give me suggestions as to how to solve this problem?
    Thanx,
    John

I'd try to borrow a friend's camcorder and see if that works which would isolate the problem to your Canon. As you're probably aware, it's very possible that the Canon is the source of the problem - especially if you're experiencing the problem with both the G4 and the MBP - I assume you're using at least FCP5.1.x?
Are you daisychained through an external FW drive? Are you capturing to the system drive? You don't have any other apps open?
Have you successfully captured with this set-up before? Have you tried changing the firewire cable?
