PRAM reset not working

I can't get the cmd-opt-p-r to work. My MBP just boots normally every time.
I also can't get cmd-opt-o-f to let me into OF either.
Holding the opt key gets me to my boot options.
What gives?

Hold down the keys immediately after you press the power button.
Have you had any problems with the keyboard in normal functions? For instance, do the P and R keys skip? Do the command and options keys ever skip? You can check this by opening the keyboard palette and pressing the keys a few times to see if they register in the palette. The keyboard palette should be available in the international keyboard menu once it's enabled in the "international" system preferences".

  • OS wont start up, PRAM reset not working :(

    Hey all,
    I came home one day to my dual 1.8 power mac frozen and fans
    blowing on high. I shut it down, and when starting up...I just got thegray screen with the apple logo, nothing else. I read through the support advice and after multiple combinations of SMU, PRAM, NVRAM
    resets, I was able to FINALLY get OS up and running. As soon as I shut
    it down, the start up issue began once again. After spending 20 min on
    the phone with tech support, learning about holding down the power
    button and waiting for the high pitch tone,resetting the PRAM( 4 - 5x)successfully (but only after many failed attempts) with the option-command-p-r key hold and then performing an archive and reinstall...it all happened again after using the computer for 1/2 the day.
    Except now (as before) I cant seem to reset the PRAM no matter when I time the command-option-P-R or in what sequence I do it in. Ive plugged/unlplugged, waited to hold/immeditately held the keys down, pushed the SMU
    button on the board/didnt push the button, opened firmware page and
    reset all and tried it from there...nothing reproduces the multiple
    chimes and PRAM reset I was able to do the 2 previous times this
    occured. I even went out and bought a new battery for the
    board(installed correctly)and nothing is helping. When holding the
    command optionp r keys, I dont even get the grey screen with the apple. If I leave the keyboard alone and perform all other possible resets...the gray apple appears, no other graphics show up, and definitely never get the
    spinning gear...just a steady increase in fan speed the longer I let it
    sit. It's like the PRAM is not able to reset, and when it
    does, all is good. The timing of the push and hold on the keys seemed
    to be crucial the last 2 times, some time after the chime, but before
    thegray screen. The tech associate told me to push and hold them immediately...that has never worked.
    Any thoughts anyone? Is there another way to reset the PRAM? Any help or advice would much appreciated.

    Alright. Here's the update.
    The computer continued to give me startup issues. Unfortunately,
    the logic board pressing must have been coincidental. And an archive install of 10.4 didnt help. The machine is
    definitely behaving erratically. It starts up when it decides, I seems
    to cycle through few and many (50) startup attempts . I recently backed
    up all my data, erased my drive, and did a clean reinstall. my last
    hope that this is a software issue was about to be
    tested. And sure enough, the computer worked well for 24
    hours.When I was about done updating OS 10.39 with 2007-2008 security
    update when suddenly...frozen again. I've read a few horror stories about this update so I wont make that mistake again.
    It then took me close to 100 attempts to get the **** thing to boot, but I did...attempted
    to reinstall windows and during the process or loading disc 2, the
    machine just went to sleep. Never has this occured. I had the fans out
    of the machine and felt the problem may be temperature related. SO now im
    back to trying to start it up again. Anyone know how to startup to CD
    from open firmware? Besides the usual mac-boot, or holding down C at startup? Is this sounding more like a power supply issue to anyone? Thanks. Gonna try and part this thing out if I cant narrow down the problem.
    I have already given up on this machine and just bought at macbook pro from Feb 08 on amazon. Im definitely getting apple care. I was so close to going back to PC. Grrrr.

  • HT1379 PRAM reset not working as it is described in the Apple Help

    I tried the reset several times but there is never a second start up sound! I really tried specifically holding command - option (alt)- and P and R-before the grey secreen came up--- no second start up sound. Any clue? This is an IMAC ... I was given the advice to do the reset and NVRAM and PRAM reset as I have severe problems with my intelsat 27 inch  IMAC - it loses the WLAN connection all the time. is really slow. loses passwords in the keychain all the time and I have 10 days left for the apple protection plan and I am getting pretty annoyed with all the instructions that are not even working... any advice?

    The heavy computer and as I am having bluetooth troubles as well as I starting to think I did something wrong. Issue of PRAM restart was solved by fixing the bluetooth connection to the keyboard that happens all the time so I paired it again (for the 100th time), But you are right - I am going there tomorrow. This is taking too much time and if it is my fault I am getting rid of this IMAC for good. No internet on a stable level, no bluetooth connection on a stable level, passwords getting lost... if this is MAC OS 1.6 - I am saying good bye to Apple. 10.8 is not guaranteed to work for some of important  programs... so updating is not an option for me at the moment. Thanks for kicking me!

  • Mac acting as if the apple key is stuck down+ pram reset not working

    My Mac pro has started acting as if the apple key is held down! Menus and cursers are all wrong or not working at all. Rebooting cures it for a few hours but sometimes only a few minutes, I've tried swapping keyboards ( twice ) and using diffrent usb sockets without any joy so I'm starting to think it's a system problem. One suggestion I read was to reset the pram but even that won't work. Holding down the command / option / P / R combo at start up doesn't do anything.
    HELP!  PLEASE

    Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some Discs have it inexplicably on Disc #2. Some models have a separate AHT CD.

  • HT3964 MBP SMC reset not working

    The built in- camera on my MBP is not working. I've identified the problem and it lies in the SMC, following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 told me to press the ctrl + option + shift + power button simultaniously as well as releasing them the same way. There is no way to remove the battery unless i intend to remove 10 screws, so I take it I am not supposed to solve the problem this way..? Anyway, when turning on the computer after following instructions it simply powers up as normal, I log in and the camera is still not found. Is there anyway I can solve this problem myself?

    It wouldn't hurt to re-install OS-X.  Maybe a PRAM reset would help, you could try that for good measure. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379   Upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion wouldn't exactly be directly related but it's not a bad idea either.  It's only about $20 right now!

  • Screen is frozen on apple logo and standard reset not working

    All of a sudden the apple logo appeared on the screen of my 6th generation ipod classic and the standard process to reset will not work although I've attempted it numerous times. I also noticed that my ipod is not being recognized by either My Computer in Windows 7 or ITunes. I need help desperately!

    So you can't the iPod to boot past the Apple logo? What happens if you try to manually force it into Disk Mode? Does that work?  If so, you can try connecting it to your PC and iTunes in that mode to see if that will iTunes or your PC recognize it long enough for you to perform a restore operation.

  • Af:query + reset not working

    Hi,
    I am using jdev 11g(Version 11.1.1.3.0) .
    I created a view object for a table with query which has a where clause( the clause expects a date from the user).
    then i dragged the All queriable attributes on the jspx page as query with table option.
    it renders a search region with iinputext(case id) and input as date(calendar) and a table below it which is rendered as per the input.
    Everything works normal, but when i click on the Reset button rendered in the search section, it does not clear the date field.
    if i write soemthing in case id field, that is cleared on the reset but the value entered by clicking the calendar is not resetted.
    Besides on reset, it does not clear the table as well. Well from what i have been reading i assume i will have to reset the table programmatically.
    But i am not so sure how to approach this situation.
    Will highly appreciate if i can get any suggestions or point me to appropriate links.
    Thanks in advance
    ash

    Hi,
    When i try to programmatically reset the table, it does reset it but the problem is after resetting if enter a search criteria and click on search again, nothing shows up.
    If i do a search before clicking on reset, it works fine, but afer reset the search stops working??
    Any idea why this could be happening?
    Following is teh reset code which i am refereing
        if(QueryOperationEvent.Operation.RESET.equals(queryOperationEvent.getOperation())){
          AppModuleImpl am = this.getAm();
          ViewObject submittalVO = am.findViewObject("AcrSubmittallogView1");
           submittalVO.setNamedWhereClauseParam("bind_date", "");
           submittalVO.executeQuery();
           AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(resId1);
        queryOperationEvent.getComponent().processUpdates(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance());
    on the jspx page, have added the following code in af:query component
      <af:query id="qryId1" headerText="Search" disclosed="true"
                                  value="#{bindings.ImplicitViewCriteriaQuery.queryDescriptor}"
                                  model="#{bindings.ImplicitViewCriteriaQuery.queryModel}"

  • Reset NOT Working

    For the past month my Time Machine hasn't been able to keep its network up for more than about 5 minutes. Sometimes when I do a hard reset (take out the power and ethernet internet feed cables then re-plug them after a couple minutes) it will come back and the network will work (though only for 5-10 minutes). Other times the reset does not work at all.
    The obvious reasons for this being annoying are: I can't get on the web and I can't back up my computer.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

    You may do better in the Time Capsule or Airport forums, as many of us here (like me) aren't very familiar with them.
    Those forums are hidden in the DIgital Life section, at: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=140

  • OBIEE 10g RPD Paswword Reset not working

    I have gotten 2 10g RPDs, the password of which I do not know. I ma trying to change/ reset the password by making use of the technique wherein "AUTHENTICATION_TYPE = BYPASS_NQS;" is uncommented within the NQSConfig.ini file. It does not seem to be working. I have also changed the Default RPD name within the config file to the new RPD alongside ensuring there are no gaps/ spaces in the RPD name which are the common pitfalls.
    The strange part is that it did work with another 10g RPD couple of weeks back but is not working with the two RPDs I got yesterday. I have just the client 10.1.3.4.2 installed so eliminates the possibility of the BI server being up and running.
    Is there anything else that could be preventing/ hindering this?

    Nope. Did not work. Message returned back is that the existing password does not match the RPD password.
    I have pasted the NQSConfig.ini file from "OracleBI\server\Config" below, just in case I am overlooking something that you happen to spot that might be preventing the overwrite:

    can anyone shed light on my problems I'm not sure I have everything config right.
    Thanks

    Not sure what you are asking.
    Sounds like you may be confusing the management port with TCP Reset event action for signatures.
    The TCP Reset packets as event actions for signatures will not be sent out of the management port. They are sent out a TCP Reset port.
    The TCP Reset port is not user configurable or even viewable in Native IOS.
    The configuration you need to worry about is not the management-port but instead the data-ports of the IDSM-2. The data-ports need to be properly configured to monitor the traffic you want to execute the TCP Resets on,

    Are you sure you are doing it correcly?
    A hard reset is performed by holding down the power button while sticking something thin (paper clip) into the back reset hole of your device. Keep your hand on the power button while you release the paper clip from the reset hole. The screen will now say "Palm Powered." Take your hand off the power button. You will now see a screen in 5 languages prompting you to erase all data from the palm. The screen will say "erase all data? Yes - up, no - down" and you need to click on the up arrow (silver button on the 5 way navigator on the bottom of the palm). This will erase all the info from your device.

  • Alarm reset not working

    My alarm reminders pop up fine, but the three buttons on the right do not work most of the time, i.e. close, reset timer and the examine doc in iCal buttons.
    On occasion they will pop up or work straight away, but most of the time they are just inactive. Really frustrating when you are just looking to reset the alarm for another 15 mins!
    The normal top left Red 'close window' button does work though.
    Any thoughts?

    Hold down the Command key when you click them and they will work every time. Cheers!

  • I have 3X YOGA 10 freeze - factory reset not working

    I bought 3 lenovo yoga B8000-F 10 January 2014 none of them work. it is frozen on the logo LENOVO. recovery factory reset not possible

    Lenovo Phone Support are suggesting I take it back to the shop where I bought it (was on vacation interstate in Australia - if Lenovo want to send me the flight, I'll definitely take it back  )
    This looks like a firmware bug and it seems to be endemic - interesting that it's just happened for me too, roughly 100 days since purchase...
    Also found that the warranty was shown on the Lenovo system as being months before purchase - my receipt is 8/1/14, their record is 23/10/13
    Can not get any message out of the tablet other than that it is in Meta Mode - it won't get to Factory reset.....

  • Miix 2 10 freezing - hard reset not working

    Hello! For the second time in a few days my miix 2 10 decided not to wake up again. The windows button makes it vibrate. But no reactions beside that. Last time the error disappeared after some time, I dont' know why. Would not be a big deal to me beside this fact: Right now I am not able to perform a hard reset. What are the options to do a hard reset? Is it pressing the power button for more than 10 seconds? Does not work. Pressing both volume and power button? Does not work. What to do? Any help is greatly appreciated! Kind regards,Jan

    Got my Miix 2 10" on Monday 15. Performed a lot of Windows uptates, unistalled Mc Affee and connected a Bluetooth mouse. Then the tablet lost contact with the keyboard and track-pad. Tried to restore Windows, but got a message telling me no recovery partition was found. Then the screen went black. The tablet did not recognise the power switch, and it was impossible to reset or switch it off. Pressed the button for more than one minute. Funny thing is the mouse pointer from the bluetooth mouse moved around, but nothing else was visible. I could see in my router that the tablet was connected to my Wi-Fi, so it was not completely dead. Left it over-night and tested it in the morning, but still not able to wake it up or shut it down. Back from work in the evening it had obviously drained the batteries, and wake up normally when connected to the charger.  When the batteries was fully charged I switched it off (not sleep). It was not possible to switch it on again without using the charger. I have not been able to replicate this, but it is not a good feeling to have a mobile unit that can lock itself up completely, or not wake up without external power.... Windows log files indicates that it shut down because of power loss about 15 hours after the initial freeze.The bluetooth mouse was installed with standard Windows driver. Tablet is European / Nordic version manufactured 12. jan 2014. Bios is 95CN12WW, 25.12.2013. I do really hope Lenovo manage to sort of the trouble with this tablet. Its quite nice, and I like it except the scary feeling of being stuck with a brick.
