Prd server restore/copy on different hardware

Hi Everyone,
Our Client has  PRD SERVER running ECC 6.0   .
u2022 SAP Release and Basis Release ECC 6.0, Kernel 7.0, Sup. Package level 15.
u2022 ORACLE 10G
u2022 Operating System : Windows (2003) NT 5.2 Build 3790 SP2
u2022 Hardware Model and Vendor : hp
PRD servers(2-machines) are configured in Microsft Cluster environment.SAP and oracle Database resides on MSA 1000 storage.
For the backups of PRD they use the HP Dataprotector 6.0.
Now they want to move to different hardware without using the cluster scenario (i.e now they will use single machine) but the OS and DB will be the same .
1st: whether it will be a Homogenous or Hetrogenous system copy?
2nd: can i use the hp dataprotector to restore on different hardware? If anyone has experience with restoring on different
hardware using dataprotector please share..
Please share if anybody has any document & suggestions.
Thanks

Hi,
1st: whether it will be a Homogenous or Hetrogenous system copy?
This will be homogenous system copy

dataprotector is backup utility, for using this utility you have to configure dataprotector client on new hardware , after which you will be able to restore the database.

  • How-to restore 10g on different hardware ?

    Hi there,
I am trying to find out if there is some kind of "recommended solution" for restoring db server on different system in case of hardware failure.
We have Oracle server running here without any DRP in place. For beginning I am trying to figure out how to restore server in case of hardware failure.
    Oracle 10g on Oracle Linux 4 on i386(Dell 6850).
What I have are cold backup dump files for all server partitions taken while server is down over night.
.... and I am not Oracle DBA although I know few things ... how to prepare machine and install Oracle ... bring instances up and down ... you know .... basic things.
    Thanks for all replies!!

  • SQL Server wants to open properties of wrong database and cannot restore logs of different databases at the same time

We have implemented our own way of logshipping by backing up the transaction logs of all our non-system databases every hour. Then we transfer the backups (before SQL Server 2008 R2 with additional zip and unzip steps) to the second environment where we
restore them only during the night on databases in standby-state (Like this, our developers can access the databases without disturbing the productive system and we can restore the t-logs during night, so not shutting out the developers during the day).
Now since we replaced our hardware in the productive environment, we replaced the hardware in the second environment with the servers from previous productive environment. Same SQL Server 2008 R2, same Service Pack (SP2), same installation procedure. But
since then the SQL Server in the second environment behaves different:
    - When the logs of some database "A" are restored, I cannot access the properties of any database, i.e. database "B", I only get the error message "Cannot show requested dialog. (SqlMgmt) Database 'A' cannot be opened. It is in the
middle of a restore. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 927)"
    - Our logshipping runs multiple instance at the same time, so restoring multiple databases' logs. But since the change, two of the instances fail restoring of datatbases, i.e. "B" and "C" with the error message "Database 'A' cannot
be opened. It is in the middle of a restore.". The jobs guarantee to restore only logs of the database they need to restore, they have strictly separated sets of target databases and only try to restore the databases of their sets.
Before the new installations, we did not have these strange behaviours. But as said, it is the same SQL Server version, the same service pack, and we followed the same installation document but maybe with the small changes in settings. The user the jobs
are running under is a domain admin, the login they use has dbcreator, processadmin, db_owner and db_backupoperator roles. My login on the SQL Server has sysadmin rights and as described similar problems.
Is this problem known or does somebody have an idea where to go looking for?
    Thanks, Chris

    Hi Christar,
According to your description, after you configuring Log shipping between two database, you remove the hardware from production environment to dev environment, in this hardware, there are saved the transaction logs of your database.
When restoring  your database, there will occurs error 927, right?
SQL Server Log shipping allows you to automatically send transaction log backups from a
primary database on a primary server instance to one or more
secondary databases on separate secondary server instances. It consists of three operations:
1.Back up the transaction log at the primary server instance.
2.Copy the transaction log file to the secondary server instance.
3.Restore the log backup on the secondary server instance.
Since you want to move your hardware avoiding copy job, we need to verify if .mdf and .ldf file are not saved in your hardware, or else,
if you move your hardware, you could not open your database in your Primary Server. I recommend you can refer to the following steps.
Full back up your primary database and restore it into the secondary database. It would have been set up as WITH STANDBY ,the databases would read StandBy/ Read Only.
Perform transaction log backups via a SQL Server Agent job running on the primary server instance, save them in your hardware.
In night, you move hardware to your dev environment, you can manually restore these transaction log backups or set up a SQL Server Agent job to restoring them from your hardware.
There is detail about how to configure log shipping in SQL Server 2008R2 step by step, you can review it.

  • Time Machine Restore to Different Hardware

I just replaced a crashed 20" Core Duo (first intel 20" model) with a 24" aluminum. I had full backups of the old system that I used to restore to the new system.
I didn't receive any errors, but I'm a little concerned that there may be issues with the OS X install because the original install was to a different hardware configuration. Should this be something to be concerned with or am I just worrying for no reason?
What triggered my concern is that I knew there was a firmware release for the display adapter released in Nov. for the adapter in the aluminum iMac (for the Radeon HD 2600). But when I ran software update after the restore, it says that my software was up-to-date. I tried to install the firmware manually, but it said that it wasn't required for my system. The firmware was released Nov. 15th and I picked the new iMac up yesterday (12/6). Is there a chance that the firmware was updated before I took delivery? I assumed not, since it still came with Tiger loaded and with a Leopard upgrade disk.
Does any of this make sense? Can someone tell me if this is nothing or is there a way to verify that I'm okay?
    Thanks for your help,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
As you are only concerned and not 100% sure that anything is wrong, and there is no concrete evidence that anything isn't working properly, I wouldn't worry about it for now. If your Mac is that new then first thing Monday I would call the Apple Support line and explain it to them. I believe the call is free during your warranty period. Make them earn their money.

  • How to prevent an encrypted backup from being restored to a different device?

If I force an employee to do an encrypted backup (which I can do with a configuration profile), and that employee is fired. We take back the company iphone, but they go and buy a personal one. They connect the new, personal iphone to itunes and do a restore of the encrypted backup (they know the password) and now they have all the work related stuff on their personal phones. Is there a way to prevent an encrypted back from being restored to a different device id.

We require encryption of our employee backups as well...and the problem you mention is a real one.....
If you use Exchange, you could disable Exchange Active Sync to prevent them from subsequently connecting to Exchange Server and getting new data with the new personal device....but you would still have the old data as part of the backup...the other issue is that we've found that the profile is part of the backup and if an employee leaves, even on good terms, if he wants to restore say, his music from the backup without the profile, it becomes quite awkward...the profile would have to be removed, ( which removes everything added with the profile, possible email and wi-fi), then the user could backup music etc  with iTunes, then return the corporate phone to be salvaged or re-deployed...and later put his personal data back on another device without the profile...if there is a way around the issue you bring up I'd like to know of it as well. .  Perhaps there is an MDM with functionality that would help here....that is one great strength of the Blackberry platform..all corporate data can be controlled from the BES server.

  • I get this message "can not read because it was created by a newer version" I restored twice at different dates, uninstalled and installed again.. But nooo still there.

I get this message, "can not read because it was created by a newer version" I restored twice at different dates and uninstalled all apple stuff and reinstaled it again. Still nothing   Help John

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • How to restore cluster to different servers

Our 2-node cluster is being included in DR test this year. Our site provider is being asked to prepare servers, network and storage to host the cluster. We will restore from EMC BCV backup and then try to bring up the cluster.
OS = solaris, storage is asm on emc san, only oracle clusterware for management. DB is 11.1.0.7.
    Questions:
    1) do the servers need to have the same host names as what we have today in production ? (Network will be isolated to DR site). Can we restore the cluster from backup if the servers have different host names?
    2) do the storage device names need to have the same names as on our local san - disk groups internally are expecting certain device names I believe?
WOuld appreciate replies from anyone who has performed similar disaster recovery exercises before using EMC BCV backups (which is a type of hot backup).
    Thanks.

Use oracle dataguard technology for oracle database DR setup. So the server names can be different and you can easily do the tasks of failover to DR site and switchback to production after testing the failover.

  • ASDM Backup of 5510 restored onto a different 5510 newer IOS

We use an ASA 5510 as the head end for our WAN which consists of around 30 branch offices, running Cisco 2825 routers with ipsec tunnels back to the data center.
I took a backup of my "in service" ASA5510 (IOS Version 8.0(2) ) and restored it onto my "backup" ASA5510 (IOS Version 8.2(2).  Everything seemed to look fine, but when I took the ASA  to the data center and tried to put it into service, the tunnels would not come up.
For the record, I shut down the "in service" ASA and moved all of the cabling over to the "backup" ASA, which I had running, in the hopes of keeping the downtime to a minimum (and I double checked that everything was in the right port).
After about 15 minutes, I gave up and plugged everything back into the "in service" ASA and all my tunnels came back up.
Is there something basic that I missed here?  Did the IOS version change break it?
In the 8.2(2) version on my "backup" I see a reference to "peer-id-validate req" when i do a "show run all" -- is this default behavior or did something change in 8.2 ?
Did moving the configuration onto different hardware break it?
I have compared the configs (as best I could) and nothing is jumping out other than the "peer-validate" mentioned above.
    Any guidance is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brian

That was the problem, the pre-Shared keys which where in the backup were stored as an asterisk (*).  This seems like it should have been something that was thought about.  You take a backup of a device but if you restore it, it does not work, since the Pre-Shared keys get lost in translation!
    Thanks for the input Mike.

  • Weblogic Cluster with different hardware

    Hello,
I want to configure a Bea Weblogic 8.1 Cluster including an itanium and an i686

I have sucessfully configured a weblogic cluter with 2 Sun servers.
Now I want to use for my weblogic cluster an itanium server together with an Intel
i686 server both running on linux with jrockit as jvm.
Is it possible to do this with different hardware platforms to use in a Weblogic
    Cluster?
I know that I have to use the same servicepack of WLserver and the same java machine.
On the itanium system i use Redhat AS and on the i686 system i use redhat es
    Michael

Yes, this is fine. The only thing you need to watch for is that the system with the least resource is capable of taking over the workload of the system with the larger resources. This will often just be a matter of application configuration or tuning.
