Pre 2 Lunacy ...Luna restart loop...

Been running Pre2 with 2.1 & preware mods...  Luna started self-restarting randomly... More and more frequently over subsequent days.  Occasionally would get stuck in restart loop where the animated pulsing-hp logo would suddenly freeze and then restart again (assume luna restart aborted and restarted itself again before presenting user screen.)  When caught in this luna restart loop (lunacy), I was forced to do a "triple-toggle restart" after which the lunacy would seem to be cured.  Did this several time over several days.
THEN... This morning went to check mail when lunacy started.  TWO subsequent triple-toggle device restarts failed to get past lunacy.  Third (?) came up announcing I needed to restart, re-login to my Palm account to restore my phone!  (all the way back to "English?" prompt)
Now...  All apps restored and amazingly including 2.1 new features and my completely rearranged launcher pages (ala Preware mods!)  Took me back to 2.0 (apparently) since now suggesting I upgrade to 2.1 !!!  BUT....  Been here before and the 2.1 upgrade collided with my Preware patches, leading me to have to doctor the thing!
A)  is my hardware the problem or is this understood behavior?
B)  diagnostic tools to use?
C)  should I allow upgrade to 2.1 to proceed when it does not seem necessary?
....help appreciated!
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Yes... Went to apps catalog and installed the new Bing maps program.  Tried it out and liked it!  Installed it as soon as it was announced...  Now something has changed.  The restore of my Palm profile remove bing maps ...so I reinstalled it.  Then luna restarts on its own and remove it!
Seriously thinking someone has been playing with exploiting the open-ness of webos, trying to use recovery and update features of the system to install malware.  The bing vrs google dispute just provided a convenient test case masqurading as a "protest".

  • Stuck in Restart Loop after Software Update

I recently ran the update to 10.5.3 a few days ago, and thankfully, it's been working great... until today, when I installed two seemingly innocuous updates via Software Update: one for the latest version of Quicktime and another for Apple Brother Print Drivers 1.1. After restarting, everything fell apart. Several of my start-up apps unexpectedly quit after login, and other apps either failed to launch when I tried opening them, or they simply got stuck in an endless loop of bouncing in the dock. I couldn't even force-quit them because they weren't responding at all. Thinking this strange behavior to be symptoms of some permissions issue, I popped in the Leopard installation CD and ran a permissions repair. It fixed several cryptic problems, one for something to do with Java and another for the cups folder, which I assume has some relation to the printer driver update. I then tried selecting my start-up disk and restarting, but the problem only got worse. Now my iMac is stuck in a restart loop. I tried booting in safe mode, but that hasn't worked. If worse comes to worst, I'll have to revert to a Time Machine backup, or else run an Archive & Install, but I'm trying to avoid that. Any suggestions? I'm also curious to know if these two updates had any relevance to these problems, and if so, what the cause may be. I'm thinking the printer driver is to blame, but then again that's only a stab in the dark. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a Safe Boot again but unfortunately that didn't work, so I had to go ahead and do an Archive & Install. Now everything is up and running; however, I'm going to stay away from that print driver until I figure out exactly what went wrong. I did a little research and saw it listed on MacUpdate.com, where it was posted along with an interesting note: apparently, the update can only be applied if there is already a Brother print driver installed (in this case there was), and in addition to that, the printer must either be connected (and I assume on for the computer to know it's connected in the first place) or have an active print queue for the update to even be listed in Software Update. Strangely enough, neither of these conditions held true when I saw it in Software Update... so I think that might have been the cause, but I can't be sure. I was wondering if anyone else has installed this update successfully, and if so, what they did?
    Thanks again for the suggestions.

  • Macbook Pro stuck in restart loop with fresh install

    Hello!
I have a Macbook Pro (Mid 2009) that I have been running Snow Leopard on up until now. I had been meaning to upgrade to Mavericks for a while, but had just never gotten around to it. Over the last month or so, my Macbook has been running really slow, hanging on the spinning beachball every few minutes for a few seconds (sometimes up to a minute or so). So I figured a clean start might be the best way to go, and while I'm at it, I might as well upgrade to Mavericks.
I backed up all my data, and then I created a Mountain Lion bootable usb (I had trouble making a Mavericks bootable usb from Snow Leopard, and since I had bought Mountain Lion for my desktop, I just decided to do a fresh install of that, and then upgrade to Mavericks). I had no problem booting to the usb, erased my hard drive and did a fresh install of Mountain Lion. However, after the install on the usb, my mac restarted and got stuck in a restart loop. It will chime, show the apple logo and spinning gears for a few seconds, then the gears stop spinning, and then the mac immediately restarts (this time displaying a message saying the mac has recovered from a shutdown in a number of languages), and the same thing happens again.
I was able to boot into the recovery partition, checked the permissions, found some that needed to be fixed, ran the repair permissions, verified the disk and was told the disk appears okay. Tried to then restart and same thing.
I have reset SMC, NVRAM, and none of these change anything. I booted in single user mode and ran fsck -fy, and recieved a message saying modifications were made, rebooted, same thing.
I have booted in verbose mode and the system restarts at the same point every time, right after displaying a message that says
SMC::smcReadKeyAction Error: (and then something with "BEMB", it goes by really fast so its hard to read exactly)
I have managed to boot into safe mode, but this has not made a difference. On one of my boots into safe mode, I went ahead and made a Mavericks bootable usb, and restarted the process: wiped the drive, installed mavericks, but I am in the exact same situation. I can still boot into safe mode.
I have seen some other issues that people have posted, but most involve the system freezing after the apple screen (not restarting) or do not involve freshly formatted HDs.
I'm just tying to find out if this is a hard drive issue, or if my mac itself needs to be retired. It has had a pretty long life (being 5 years old), and one of the RAM bays doesn't work (it is only running 4GB of ram, not sure if that can cause a problem with the boot cycle).
Sorry if thats a lot of information, I've been trouble shooting this for a few days. But thanks for any help you can offer!
    A strange note:
-when booting from the mavericks usb, I got stuck in the restart loop a couple of times. I managed to get past this by clicking the mousepad a few times right after the gears finished spinning. The mouse became visible, the apple screen shifted color a bit (went from a bluish gray tint to an orangish gray tint), the mouse became visible, and I got to the reinstall menu as normal. As far as I can tell the clicking may have been coincidental, but it was the only time I was able to boot the usb, and I wasn't going to risk restarting to test that, and then not be able to boot again.

Hey, thank you for your reply! I didn't have everything backed up, but I have a lot of my important stuff saved, though, so that's somewhat of a relief..
As far as my hard drive is concerned, would I have to send it in somewhere to get it fixed or would I just have to get a brand new one? If so, how much? Sorry if I seem a bit amateur, but this computer is my first personal computer, and I'm really lost without it!

  • Win 8.1 goes into restart loop

I have an hp touchsmart tm2 2100 notebook. It originally came with win 7. Now I have installed win 8.1 but it does not give a display on multimedia ( i am a teacher and have to do a lot on multimedia). when I upgrade the driver, it goes into a restart loop and continues for a while. At the end, it gives a restore or advance repair options. I go into the safe mode and uninstall the intel graphic driver. It comes back to its originla position.
Please any suggestions on how to sort this out.

  • Macbook Restart Loop when trying to install OS X Yosemite

I've tried to update my 10.8.5 to Both Mavericks and Yosemite but in both cases it gets locked in a restart loop. This happens when I press install and it say that it will now restart the computer.  My Macbook pro is from late 2008. is that the problem?
I pressed Command+R and restarted the macbook and it went back ro 10.8.5 again.
So what can I do to install the OS X Yosemite. Any body know?

    Hold on.
    7,1 is a mid 2007 model (20 or 24")
It can run Yosemite, make sure that you have at least 4GB of Ram.

  • Restarting loop after update to 10.5.7!

Hey Guys, I have a serious problem with OSX after updating to 10.5.7!
I updated through Software Update and the macbook restarted.
After that it went into a restarting loop. It boots-up, the logo and moving circle appears, and then it restarts.
    I tried everything-
boot from Leopard CD, and repaired OSX partition, Hardware Test, Safe Mode, Single user mode, Verbose mode, and after I did Option-Command-P-R to Reset NVRAM instead of an apple logo and circle, appears a crosses out circle and it starts up using my XP via Bootcamp which is my second start up disk.
    What do I DO???
I do manage to get into my OSX partition files through MacDrive, so i'm thinking of reinstalling Leopard.
    My question is:
I want to save my program data and preferences, such as:
Passwords from KeyChain Access (Very Important!), Contacts from AddressBook, Bookmarks from Safari and so on...
How do I do that? Which files do I copy??
    Every help is welcome!!!
    Thanks, Daniel.

OK, so looking through the thread, it's a given that there's a problem with 10.5.7 and the MB Air.
For me, it's back to the problems I was getting after I first bought the machine - a kernel task occupying 150%+ of my CPU without anything much running and a restart being the only way to shift it. Though right now, even having just restarted, I'm still getting bad performance (I can barely type this post).
As it doesn't seem to affect all, I'm curious what the common factors are.
I run a second monitor and it certainly performs better without one. Is anyone else experiencing the performance issues using a second monitor, and does using it without one make it better?
Also, I'm running CoolBook. This sorted out my problems completely last year though shortly before I upgraded to 10.5.7, CoolBook broke and despite uninstalls and clean re-installs it no longer runs.
Is anyone else running CoolBook? Does it run under 10.5.7? Does it solve the problems?

  • Treo 700p Updated Versamail to 3.5.4 and immediately went to a restarting loop...

I'll tell you the whole story so you can feel sorry for me and help.
I was trying to update my step-mom's versamail so she could get her office e-mails for her trip today.  Well, she had never plugged in her treo into her computer before, so I had to install palm desktop, etc.  The phone synced and it said it was backing up a lot of stuff, but I noticed it didn't update versamail.  So I ran the installer, and everything appeared to install fine.  The phone reset itself, showed the access powered (i think) screen and then the palm screen, and then it reset it self and did it again.
This went on for a good 5-10 minutes before I called it quits.  I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in, but still did the restart loop.  Well it came time for her to go, and she absolutely needed the phone.  So I had to do a hard reset so she could use it this weekend.  After the hard reset I synced it again to see if I could get the backup data on there.  After it loaded everything it went back to the reset loop.  So I hard reset it again, and gave it to her.  She brought her laptop that I used to do the syncing, so I'm hoping I can have a fix for her soon.
    Basically my questions are:
    - What happened to cause the loop?
    - How do I get all her info back on her phone without it causing the loop? (most important question)
    - How do I install versamail without it causing the loop?
    Thank you.
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

Looping resets are caused (Most of the time) by corruptioncoming over from the PC. The way to prevent this is to rename the backupfolder. (C:/Program Files/Palm/Hotsync username/Backup)
    Then try to reinstall VersaMail.

  • Ios 7 restart loop

My phone went into a restart loop while charging and woke me up in middle of the night.  I thought something was wrong with my phone until I found out nect day that severall people at work also had similar experienece one or twice after upgrading to ios7.  Apple should look into fixing this bug.

This problem occurs on 6 of the 10 iPhones in my department (at a ~300 person org).
Our IT Director mentioned that this is a known issue with Microsoft Exchange, but many NYC Apple Store employees haven't heard of it, and some of my colleagues have replaced their phones (only to have the looping issue recur).
IT also suggested that deleting and re-adding your Exchange Calendar should fix the issue, but we have had decidedly mixed results.

  • IPhone 2G restart loop/broken power button

My original iphone has a broken power button.  Yesterday, out of nowhere, after taking calls, listen/watching podcasts, texting, etc, I get the restart loop.  I waited until the battery died so maybe I could get it restored if I sync it to itunes.  Didn't work.  itunes didn't recognize it and it charged up to looping again.  Any suggestions?  Is this a brick for good?  I preordered the 4S last week; jealousy maybe?

Usally they will just give you a a brand new iphone 4 assunming you are still in a apple care plan? But i dont think they will give you a iphone 5 even at cost.

  • T440s Windows 10 Realtek Audio restart loop

Have downloaded the latest windows 10 realtek audio driver from the lenovo site and when you install the driver there is a message like "driver installation is a 2 step process, 1) uninstall current driver and restart 2) install new driver" The uninstall works and the restart happens, but after booting up again the new driver does not install - instead the exact same window comes up about the uninstallation, resulting in an endless restart loop. Any fixes ?

The installation of the driver mentioned in the topic fails both in automatic procedure started from the Device Manager as well as in the installation wizard. Device Manager fails with timeout and the wizard fails with 0xC0000374 which seams to

  • Stuck in an Endless Restart Loop

My Mac Pro 8-core running OS 10.5.4 is stuck in an endless restart loop. The problem started when I tried to allow read & write access on my Macintosh HD to another user. Even though I only applied the permission change to my internal hard drive, all my externals suddenly became locked and I could not access them. When going to set permissions on the externals, it was listed as "custom" and I could not alter them. I went to the terminal to try to allow access to the external drives, but the terminal failed to load. That's when I tried restarting my computer and it's now rebooting constantly without ever loading.
    What I've tried so far:
-I can't load the OSX install CD because the computer is unresponsive to the open tray command by holding down the mouse click.
-The computer is unresponsive when I try to start in safe mode.
-The computer is unresponsive when I hold down command option O F to force the tray open with firmware.
-I reset the PRAM by pressing command option P R, this is the only keyboard command that has worked so far, but still nothing.
-I unplugged the computer for 10 minutes and plugged it back in. Still nothing.
Any help on what to do next would be appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem.. my early 2008 3Ghz macro when cold starts up the fans rev up and click its off. this repeats for up to five minutes, then i get a chime and then it shuts off. this is repeated for a will as if it is warming up. after about ten minutes it gets as far as finishing booting up and still shuts off. only after about 15 minutes this operating system is stable and does not shut off.
when the computer is fully warmed up it shuts off and restarts fine..
it has recently had a new logic board. can it be the power supply..
please any one got any ideas???

Now my iPod is in a constant restart loop, tried to use the link below as to guidance as to what to, however i would not like to open up my iPod myself as advised by some. Hope someone can help me. Many thanks.
