Pre-2007 battery

The battery on my (almost 3 year-old) MBP battery was replaced under the original programme (late-2006).
In recent weeks I've been having strange recharge indicators - sometimes flicking between extremes of a few minutes to 1.5 hours. The battery seems to be using a lot (upto 10%) on overnight Sleep and typical charge is lasting just over an hour.
Batteryupdater 1.3 installed, the Cycle Count is 134 and Full Charge Capacity is 1850 mAh.
Does this seem normal? Or should I be asking for a replacement while AppleCare is still valid?
Mac Help is not really helpful as it doesn't give example of what is a low charge capacity:
Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms....
Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.

8-10% drain with overnight sleep is normal. Have you calibrated your battery? Recently? Should be done every couple of months.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
Having stated that, 1850 mAh with 134 cycles is too low. You're at ~34% of your original capacity, and Apple states that a battery should maintain 80% capacity for 300 cycles.
I'd recommend a call to AppleCare, or better yet (if convenient), a visit to an Apple Store.

Just because I have an imac pre 2007 why can I not order photo albums???!!
I spent hours building a photo album for my parents only to find out that because my mac is earlier than 2007, even though I have 10.6.8, I can no longer order?! What is with that? This makes no sense. I can go online to various "photo shop" place and regardless of the OS and computer I am working from I can order a photo album so why can I no longer do this through iPhoto on my MAC?
How do I order my album now? If somebody could please explain as I am going home in 1 month and really wanted to surprise my aging parents with this book.

  • Pre 2 battery life

Here's my thread about the Pre 2 battery life.
If you have a Pre 2, please post your thoughts/results.
Upon getting my Pre 2 the first issue I noticed was battery life. After only an hour or two of intermittent use I was down 25%.  I have now conducted a lot of testing and can say the following:
The Palm Pre 2 uses battery power when idle far more than most phones.  Even with no SIM (but not in airplane mode) with wifi off, gps off, bluetooth off, the phone uses 15% in 8 hrs of idle time.  Doing nothing.  In airplane mode it uses only 4% over those same 8 hours.  With the SIM in (but not in use, only email checking) it uses more like 25% over that same period.
Improved (decreased) power usage while idle would be a great thing to see as a focus of WebOS development.

I had the Palm Pre 1 which was really bad, for battery.
I have 5 email accounts, and Facebook, and calling, and some surfing, and the odd game.
I bought the Amzer 2800 Battery, with the back. which worked great on my Pre 1, and, instead of lasting 4-6 hours, my Pre 1 worked for over 24 hours. The only down sides for me was the size of the back, but it was not the biggest back amzer does, and not That Big, however there was a bit of glare in photos taken indoors, or towards sun. And the Amzer case was shiny black, and a bit easier to open, and when you drop the Pre 1, unlike with the original Palm back, the Amzer large case, Amzer battery, and Pre would hit the floor and bounce all different placed, which is not good. However, the Amzer Battery was lovely and worked Great. (my Pre 1 has a thousand dings, and cracks, in it, but still works)
A year later, I bought the Pre 2, and noticed the Amzer 2800 Battery fitted and worked. (I had called Palm, before I received the Pre 2, and they confirmed the battery for Pre 2 is same as the one in the Pre 2, as are the backs the same. although they recomended using recommended Batteries,)
I decided to buy the Amzer 1400 for my Pre 2, which is the same size as the Palm branded battery, and lasts longer, so I can use it with the touchstone original back, that comes with the Pre 2.
Also, i noticed in the suggestions from Palm, on ways to save on batteries, there is a suggestion to force to 2G, if you cannot force to 3G...
However, If you are with the 3 Network (at least here in the UK) I don't think you can do that, as 3 UK were saying that they disconnect phones that are not 3G, and that they disconnect phones that are continually on the 2G network, as 2G has to be paid for, wheras 3G is their own network. So setting phone 2G only for a long time, will cost 3 a lot of money, and 3 say they will be disconnected.

  • Upgrading OS 10.6.8 if your iMac is pre-2007

What can you do if your iMac is pre-2007 (2006 in this case), what can be done to upgrade OS 10.6.8, which is no longer being supported?  According to Mavericks system requirements, it won't work.  And I have "only" 3 Gb of RAM...

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data before upgrading. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • MacBook Pro 2007 battery not recognized, not charging but working

I recently bought a new battery for my MacBook Pro 2007. As said in the title, it seems to work alright, but it's not recognized by the computer (X in the battery icon), and I don't think it's charging.
I tried to reset the SMC, no change. Unfortunately, I don't have any other computer to test my battery and my powercord on, to see if it's coming from either one of them. And I don't have an Apple Store around.
Do you have any suggestions ?

  • Mid 2007 battery - the one in the shop not suitable?

    Hi,
I'm a little bit confused since my battery is dead after almost 1800 cycles.
Today I went to a shop to buy a new one.
Unfortunately the salesperson didn't want to sell me this one since he was convinced that it doesn't fit in a mid 2007.
    http://store.apple.com/de/product/MA561G/A/wiederaufladbare-batterie-13-macbook- white
(the first salesperson was - I hope - new since she told me that apple doesn't sell any kind of batteries   )
Is there someone who can confirm this?
If it doesn't fit - where can I find a new one?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Ramkumar,
Within class CL_GUI_HTML_VIEWIER there is method GET_RECOMMENDED_CHARSET within this method there is FUNCTION Module called ' Get_SGP_code page ' cant recollect the exactname.
try this,  within your source code after getting arabic data
    step 1.
call that get_sgp_code page function module , that would return you appropriate code page for the Language u want to display your content in.
    step 2.
pass the recommended code page, as L_ENCODING value to the method
    CALL METHOD CL_ABAP_CONV_OUT_CE=>CREATE

  • Palm Pre Plus Battery WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE throughout the day!!!!!!

I have been a Palm user for many years and just traded in my Treo for the Pre Plus, what a dissapointment. I am continually looking for a place to charge the phone so I can use it when needed.  This is very frustrating.  Took it back to Verizon but they were not helpful, they just offered to sell me a car charger at 50% off and let me know that this has been on ongoing porblem with the PRE. I have dimmed the backlight and turned off automatic updates for most applications. Any other suggestions before I trade it in for the DROID.

Battery life on any of the current crop of smartphones will be pretty disappointing especially if you really use the heck out of them.  There are some things I can tell you about the Pre, though:
When you first start using it, especially if you add a good number of email, calendar, facebook, etc accounts, it chews through the battery really quickly as its constantly pulling data to populate those accounts on the phone.
Add to this that the radio requires more power the lower the signal wherever you are.  You can thank CDMA for that, and the best you can do is try to stay in a strong signal area the first day or two, especially if you're seeing a lot of data use.
The GPS is on by default (or at least it was initially, not sure on the VZ plus devices).  TURN THIS OFF (GO to location services app and from the menu make sure its checked off) if you don't use it.
Finally, I don't know the chemistry here, but the first few charges on the battery seem to "condition" it, and you'll see life improve as the first few days and charge cycles are behind you.
Palm has some general tips for maximizing your battery use, too.  Find them here:

  • MacBook Pro (2007) Battery

This is such a basic question; I'm so embarrassed (please don't laugh; please don't judge).
Looks like I need to replace my battery; it's well beyond the anticipated cycle count (Condition: replace soon)
Here's my question: do I run any risk of losing power if the laptop remains plugged in? Is it only when it's off the power source that I run any risk of losing power completely?
    Thanks so much.

    Thanks so much!
One more question: do I run any risk or harm to the laptop if I continue to use the laptop, plugged in, even though I need to replace the battery? The cycle count is at 626; anticipated is 500 (good laptop!).
It's a cash flow issue; just wondering if I can wait a little while longer.
Well, let me continue my run of possibly ridiculous questions: does it matter which power source is feeding the laptop: permanenet power source at home, portable power source on the go?
    Appreciate your advice.

  • MacBook Pro (2007) battery not charging...

MacBook Pro battery not charging... bought a new one, same problem. Any ideas?
The problem seems to happen to more people at the moment, I know 2 guys who have the same problem.
I guess it might be a software bug in Snow Leopard?
... or it's something like a "time-bomb" to make me buy a new one...

I really don't think that the battery is the problem. But I asked them for replacement, just to be sure. I think its a software thing!!!!
I had 2 batteries before and just bought this new third one, because the second wouldn't charge anymore.

  • Macbook 3rd generation (mid- 2007) battery WARPED/BULGING

I noticed today that my battery of my black macbook is slightly warped in the middle of the battery. Seems to be working alright other than not staying 100% at most times. Is this dangerous? I'm still under Applecare Warranty. Should I call/go to the Apple Store for a battery exchange?

  • The version of Acrobat that comes bundled with Adobe CS3 has multiple errors, such as not interfacing properly with pre-2007 versions of MS Word.

The version of Acrobat that comes with Creative Suite 3 has multiple glitches, especially with regard to the interface between Acrobat and Microsoft Word.  Making PDF files from Word .Doc Files--the main reason I bought this product (OK, it was also on sale), so it was kind of disappointing to find out that I can't do that.  The basic hit-or-miss with Word/Acrobat inter-functionality is most glaring in the PDFMaker addon in Microsoft Word 2003, in which Adobe prevents Word from saving the Normal Template for as long as it is installed.  You can uninstall PDFMaker, but then you can no longer make PDF files from .DOC files, period.  In practical terms, this means that all of my style changes and keyboard shortcuts get wiped unless I uninstall Acrobat to update Normal.dot, then reinstall it to make PDFs and just not save shortcuts or change styles in the meantime.
Adobe Creative Suite 3 has a ton of gratuitous interface bells and whistles, stuff that's amazing but haven't had a use for professionally (i.e., Flash, since I mainly do composition work), stock photos that were discontinued as a feature right after I started browsing them online... the list goes on.  Apparently the only way to report it is this impersonal channel or to pay 40 buck to get treated like a value customer.  Sorry, I'm not one of those people who has Platinum Citizenship and can just buy the new version every year and blow eighty bucks when I can't find an answer in the Help menu.  I've tried multiple Adobe downloads that were supposed "fixes" for this, and nothing has worked.  Third-party online indicate that the Word software was actually pretty solid that year; it's Acrobat that's corrupting the code.  I love Photoshop (not that I have the first clue how to really use it), but I am very disappointed with Creative Suite 3 overall.  Does anyone know if there is an OpenOffice type product on the freeware circuit that would copy the function of Acrobat and work with a ten year-old version of Word, without the not-working part?

And what is the point of all this? CS3 is now 7 years old and Office 2003 just the same. Yes, sometimes software has bugs and compatibility issues. Beyond there is nothing here to discuss on either end, given the circumstances...

  • Palm Pre showing "No Service" and losing Ev/Service over 50% of the time + random shut offs when shut.

For starters, I have had 5 Palm Pre's.  The first pre had a battery that I was told was too small (which explained the occasional random shutdowns when being shut).  The second pre I had did the exact same thing brand new out of the box.  The third pre I had worked perfectly up until several days ago (right around the time change).  My calendar synced with G-mail was an hour early for every appointment; also several events were completely missing from my Pre calendar that were on g-mail.  In response to this problem I checked the time zone on g-mail with no resolve, and eventually tried erasing my google account on my pre in hopes of a fresh start.
This is when I encountered the real problems.
My Pre would not delete the account.  Every time I tried deleting it the top bar read "No Service" or my "Ev" indicator would disappear along with the bars.  After this the Calendar app would either freeze or just never delete the gmail account (the gray circle would just spin endlessly for literally 30 minutes).  Ever since then I have been experiencing the "No Service" indicator plus random loss of service and Ev (in places where in the past I had PERFECT Ev and Service)
Since then I have called Sprint and Palm multiple times, and both blame each other for the problem.  I recently took it in to the Tech's at Sprint and they could not find the problem and ordered me a "refurbished" pre.  woohoo.
Today I went and got the "refurbished" pre and within an hour of having it, I noticed that the same problem was being experienced (along with a few dead pixels on the screen).  So I took it back to the Sprint store and asked for a new one (or one that just flat out worked and didn't have dead pixels).  I then experienced very horrible customer service from Sprint (which was unusual since in the past they have been very helpful) and received a second "refurbished" Pre after a very pointless arguement with a receptionist.  By then it was closing time and I had to leave.
Upon arriving back to my dorm, I noticed the same problem was occuring:  "no service" messages and  no internet/service literally 50% of the time I was looking at the Pre's screen.  Also, my second "refurbished" Pre (that I currently have) did the exact same thing my very first one did: it occasionally shut down when I shut it.  This leads me to believe that the battery is too small just like my first Pre's battery was. . .
So now I am very frustrated and looking for answers.  I have never posted any sort of "cry for help" on the internet before, I hope this wasn't too winey lol.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening to my Pre?  Are there other people with a similar issue?  Any solutions to the problem?
Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I am on Pre number 5 and am so sorry I gave up my BB.  I have had this same issue numerous times and my biggest problem is the battery just drains.....and each one is the same...it freezes, the keyboard does not connect with the screen, the phone calls my last callers in the middle of the night sometimes 2 and 3 times I assume during backup, the tech at the Sprint store tried to help me sync my google calendar and deleted my appointments. On the last refurb my pics did not syn....they said we will keep the phone so you can sync directly, and sent the phone back before I got there. So I lost the pics of my recently passed dog.  They were like well they would have charged us 400 a day if we did not send it back........like whatever.  My chargers, car, wall and usb to computer work intermittently. I keep my car running to charge the battery.  It just continues to drain......and it goes on and on.......I baby sit this phone and cannot use it most of the time. .... palm says oh they should give you a new phone.....sprint says who said that palm?  I think about the first few months when i actually was trying to get outlook to sync.......now i just would like to be able to freakin talk on my phone.  I purchase an album on amazone and they take the money and i cannot download the music.  I tried to convert a song into a ringone I have it for safety and it is really bad.  I have to drive an hour to a "corporate store"  to beg them to give me a blackberry. I love multitasking and accessing the internet however it is freezing here now and I would like to feel a little safer with having a freaking phone to talk on.  I have spent probably a total of 40 hours on this thing since july. They say well do you turn it off and on? how often do you charge it......like its my problem......I remember the early treo's were great and then .................very similar to this 5 phones later and still in palm black abyss. So you see there are others who are having these problems they probably just like me do not want to spend another freaking second talking about this phone.

  • 2007 US Daylight Savings change time zone support in JDK 1.3

Sun has supported the 2007 US Daylight Savings change in recent versions of its JDKs 1.4 and 1.5. It has made partial Daylight Savings changes to JDK 1.3, but it's not a complete implementation like in 1.4 and 1.5, because there is no support for past/future Daylight Savings rules, only a single current set of Daylight Savings rules per time zone.
Our Java application (running in the America/New_York time zone) seems to be doomed, because the likelihood of upgrading to JDK 1.4/1.5 seems slim (we have to upgrade a third-party product first and success is seeming more and more remote), and Sun claims to be unable to fully implement the Daylight Savings change in JDK 1.3.
If any Sun Java staff can explain the reasons for being unable to implement the change in 1.3 (or at least some kind of workaround that an individual JVM user could enable), please fill me in. Any pointers on cleanly setting up a custom workaround would be valuable too.
If there are other Java users in the same situation, please fill me in on your own plans if you can. Is anybody trying to pressure Sun or other vendors for a solution? Is anybody writing their own custom workaround?
    More details....
What we really need is for the default TimeZone in JDK 1.3 (America/New_York on our machines) to work regardless of whether the date/time being checked is pre-2007 or post-2007. In particular, getOffset and inDaylightTime should work for both 2006 dates and 2007 dates. The JDK should return the correct values for 2006 dates, as well as the correct values for the 2007 US DST extension dates (03/12/2007-04/02/2007 and 10/29/2007-11/05/2007). This would enable parsing and formatting using SimpleDateFormat to work correctly as well. The TimeZone and SimpleDateFormat APIs are used throughout our application.
JDK 1.3.1_19 has an interesting workaround that depends on the current system time. Prior to Jan 1 2007, it will handle 2006 dates correctly but 2007 dates wrong. After Jan 1 2007, it will handle 2007 dates correctly but 2006 dates wrong. Either way, it is always wrong for some dates.
JDK 1.4.2_13 and 1.5.0_09 both handle 2006 and 2007 dates correctly.
If JDK 1.3 will never work for 2006 and 2007 dates, then I am contemplating two workarounds:
    1. Set the default TimeZone to a custom implementation as soon after JVM startup as possible.
    2. Avoid the default TimeZone entirely, changing our application code to rely on explicit custom TimeZones.

  • Is the 4.3 bright Verizon boot screen really a battery drainer?

The notion that Verizon's 4.3 startup logo screen puts a big drain on the S III battery, purportedly because it's so bright, is unsupported. Anyone easily can test this by writing down the current state of the battery charge percentage (be it 100% or 50%), power off, wait 30 seconds or so, power up allowing all homepage apps to fully display, open System Settings and scroll down to Battery, tap this settings option and read the battery charge percentage listed. If your simple test is the same as several tests that I've conducted, the post-powerup battery percentage will be exactly the same as the pre-powerdown battery percentage. The 4.3 logo screen is bright, but does not contribute to any battery drainage as confirmed by every test that I've conducted.

how big of a draw can it really be, it's only on for 10 sec, then continues to the home screen.
