Pre 2010 Macs not seeing netboot images hosted on 10.6.7 server

I'm having an interesting issue where any pre-2010 Mac will not see available images hosted on OS 10.6.7 Server. Anything later than mid-2010 has no issues and sees all of the available boot images when option booting. Does anyone have any insight as to why this might be happening. I'm still searching but not having any luck.

Just a shot in the dark but is it possible you have enabled some kind of filtering  under Netboot/Settings/Filters? My box to enable is unchecked.
Thanks

I imported 635 images into an iPhoto album so that I can share them via a photo-stream. However, iPhoto says there are only 600. When I try to add the missing images it says they are already there. Why can i not see these images in iPhoto?

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

When I have video clips on my timeline, they do not play in the monitor screen. I hear the sound track but can not see the image. To test if my new files are somehow the problem, I went back and used video files that I used successfully a year ago, and they no longer play in the monitor window. I hear the sound track, but do not see any video. Have I changed some setting that controls video playback in the monitor window?

    Thanks for the follow up.
Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.
    Best wishes,

  • Why can only some machines see netboot images at the startup screen?

I have a 10.6.6 server running as a netboot server. I have about 10 images running on the server that consist of a 10.6.6 and 10.5.8 triage partition and a 10.6.6 and 10.5.8 restore image. Now what I have noticed is that newer machines after starting up and holding down the option key will see all the available images. But on some older intel machines nothing will show up after holding the option key down accept the internal drive itself, But if you hold down the N key it WILL boot to the default image.
I have made sure and checked that the ethernet port was working on the older machines. I also made sure that I can see the images from the startup control panel. All machines can see the netboot images from the startup control panel, but older intel versions cant. However I was able to sometimes get the old white and black macbooks to see the images but others not.
Any suggestions as to why some machines will see the images at the startup screen after holding the option key and why some wont?

That, most likely, means that you have a fairly large number of images and/or they have very long names.
The number of images that can be displayed is limited by the size of the data packet which contains the NetBoot volume information. Two techniques we use to keep this in check are 1) aggressive purging of outdated images, and 2) use of shorter display names (the one seen in Startup Disk, not the one in the NetBootSP0 folder).

  • Windows 8.1 will not see the Printers host name or ip address

I have tried installing an OfficeJet Pro 8615 on two different Windows 8.1 computers (wireless)  but did not connect.  Pirnter is connected to network wireless (192.168.111.153). Router is 192.168.111.1. The printer was installed from a Vista (wired) desktop and it connected and printed fine. Both 8.1s can ping router but not the printer. Host name install does not work either. Router is a new Cisco RV180w. It works fine everywhere else. Printer wireless power is 5 of 6. Have looked for shared devices setting on Win 8.1 but have not found it yet. Win 8.1 computers are both 64bit and the install download showed 64x. I am running out of things to check. Can anyone help me? Win 8.1 computers sees other devices on the network but not the printer. Print & Scan Doctor does not see the printer either.
Now I am having the same problem with a Win7 (64) install. It can't see it either. Once I plugged this one into the network then it saw the printer and installed and printed. But if I unpluged the network wire and made it wireless then it stopped seeing the printer. So I am having some  kind of a wireless issue.

    Hi @EdEdata ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. Thanks for all the details of what you have done and the restuls. (Very helpful) I have read about your HP OfficeJet Pro 8615 Printer not connecting wireless and is not seen by the Print and Scan Dr. Here is a document on printer does not keep a wireless connection.  Try assigning a Static IP address. You might have to change the channel.
Make sure your computer is connected to 802.11b/g/n wireless router over a 2.4 GHz connection. NOTE: HP Printers are currently not compatible with 802.11n 5.0 GHz networks. This HP document here, explains about a printer wireless.

  • Lightroom CC Import sees CF Card in reader but does not see any images, cannot import anything

I have installed Lightroom CC.  It seems to work but if I connect a card reader with a CF card, while Lightroom sees the card, it sees no images.  I have to copy the files to a hard disk and import from there.  How do I fix this annoying problem?

    Hi drchevalier,
You mean, you are able to import those files, if moved to hard drive but not able to view them when importing directly from the CF Card? Please attach a screenshot.
If so, might be an issue with the card. Did you try reformatting the card in the camera itself and check? If not, might want to try that.
Also, make sure your camera is in the Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras list. Else, you might not see it in Lr.

EDIT: Sorry, did not see your reply. Glad to hear that the issue got resolved.

  • Core i3 mac not seeing power pc g4 imac in target disc mode

I'm trying to migrate my set up from a power pc g4 imac running a 10.4.11 to a core i3 imac. All the system software and firmware on the g4 imac is upto date and the mac will enter target disc mode. The macs are connected using a brand new 6 pin to 9 pin firewire cable. The iMac core i3 will not see the other mac in target disc mode. When trying the same thing using the migration assistant, migration assistant just hangs with the 'waiting for your other mac to restart'.
I'd really appreciate any help to fix the issue.

Is this the newest model with Thunderbolt? If so then see Thunderbolt 10.6 Help: Transferring files between two computers using Target Disk Mode and Intel-based Mac may become unresponsive in target disk mode.
Have you checked to be sure the drive in the G4 is configured as the Master? If it isn't, then it cannot be seen in TDM.

  • System Image Utility not seeing Source Images.

Ok, so I've got 10.6 server running on a New MacPro. It runs amazingly, and I love it.
Trying to create a NetInstall service to deploy a bunch of Macs. Everything I've read says that I'll need an image of the Install, or a mounted disk that I need to create an image of. I have tried both of these scenarios and I cant seem to get anything to show up in the Sources section of System Image Utility.
I created my custom image on an Intel MacBook Pro, and it boots without any problem. I restarted the MBPro in target disk mode, connected it to the MacPro, and created a "New Image From Disk...." in disk utility, and still it does not show up in System Image Utility.
A stock Mac OS X install DVD in the drive shows up in the sources section, without any issue, but I really need to be able to install a customized build of the image.
    So, here's my questions:
    1) Can I create and deploy a custom 10.5 image from 10.6 server / System Image Utility II?
    2) If so, How, or what am I doing wrong?
    Desperate for help!
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I talked to Apple Support. It seems that 10.6 server can serve out 10.5< images, however each NetInstall image needs to be created with the corresponding version of System Image Utility. That is to say, if you want to create a 10.5 image to be deployed on SnowLeopard Server, you have to install 10.5.7 Server tools on a partition running 10.5, and create the image from there, then move the .nbi folder from that machine to the 10.6 server.
Trying it now, but it seems to be working already.
    Thanks Apple Care guy!

  • 1 mac not seeing 2 others

I have 3 mac minis all running 10.5. Two of them see each other just fine. The third will not see the other two, nor can they see it. They were able to ping each other using their ip addresses. All three connect to the internet just fine. All incoming connections are allowed.
All three were freshly installed about 2 weeks ago. The only things installed since were updates and office08. One of the two good ones also had Brother Printer Control Center installed.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

For all of your freshly installed and fully update machines it is true that:
--The network card on each machine is working
--Firewalls are allowing all incoming connections
--File sharing is turned on in System preferences and at least the Public folder is being shared.
--When you ping them individually from each IP they all result in 0% packet loss
Try connecting to the AFP port from each machine.
    In the terminal type:
nc [ip of target machine] 548
to see if you are able to reach the AFP at all.

  • Macs not seeing Time Capsule connected via Ethernet to router

Just bought a new Time Capsule to replace one where the hard disk failed.  I have a fibre router which is my primary WiFi network and the Time Capsule is connected to that by Ethernet.  The Time Capsule shows up in the Wired connections of the router so I know that the router can see the TC.  I have the Time Capsule set up to supply a separate WiFi network under a different SSID for legacy purposes as I have devices that are configured to that SSID before I got my new router.
The new TC will not backup successfully unless the Macs are connected to the TC SSID, failing with the message that the Backup Disk cannot be found.  This is different from the behaviour of the last TC where the Macs would see the network drive even when connected to the router SSID.
I'm sure there is a simple setting that I'm missing that would just make this work, but I can't work it out...

There are some issues which have popped up with the TC and some routers.. particularly that the WAN connection is not working correctly.
Try using one of the LAN ports on the TC and see if that helps.
Also open the Network utility in the computer and run the netstat scan .. it looks like this.
Locate the TC on the computer that is having issues.
Then ping it.. use the full domain..
eg in terminal mine is ping tcgen4.local
I think you should rename the TC to all smb names.. ie short, no spaces pure alphanumeric as it simply works better.
Then if the TC shows up in the ping, mount the hard disk manually,
In finder, Go connect to server and type
AFP://TCname.local (use the full domain name of the TC from the netstat scan).. or use the IP you get when you ping it.. although that is going to keep changing unless you can lock it.

  • Desktop can not see all images in aperture project

When trying to change the background picture desktop lists my aperture projects but only displays a subset (5 of 114) of the images in one project. Also have 2 of 8, 152 of 152, and 0 of 12 in different projects.

It's possible you don't have Previews for the "missing" images (Aperture shares the Preview, not the full image).
What happens if you update every image in the Project's Preview?
To update all the JPEG previews in a project
In the Library inspector, Control-click the project whose JPEG previews you want to update, then choose Update Previews from the shortcut menu.

  • Mac not seeing SMB/CIFS shares that others computers can see

I set up a test that fails. There are three computers
    1) A Mac running "Tiger"
    2) PC running Windows 2000
    3) A Linux server running Samba
Both Win2K and Linux export some SMB/CIFS shares
The Mac can "see" the Win2K shared files but when the Mac tries to connect to the Linux server the finder hangs and has has to be killed. Going to a terminal on the Mac and I type "smbclient -L <Linuxsevername> I see all the services on the linux machine. So I try "smbclient //rabbit/wsfiles/" (Where the names rabbit and wsfiles where cut and pasted from the smbclient -L output.) and I get an "Invalid network name" error. Yes, I have cnnectivity to "rabbit", ping, ssh, X11 and FTP work fine
On the Win2K PC I can access the Linux shares
The Linux server can access it's own shares using "smbclient"
Linux Samba must be working because I can access the shares from Win2K. Mac must be working because it can access shares from the PC. So I can argue that nothing could be broken but clearly something is. I have many years experiance with UNIX but have avoided PCs and PC networking.
Anyone have a list of things I can check?

Hi C JAbertson, check the logs in /Applications/Utilities/console see if they provide any clue to why.You are using SMB://rabbit/wsfiles/ format in the go to window? Have you got SMB enabled in Directory Access?
    Cheers.
